Giannis Antetokounmpo Inks Three-Year Extension Worth $186 Million: Report

The Eastern Conference might consistently run through Milwaukee, Wisconsin over the next three seasons. Perennial MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo is officially staying in green and white. According to multiple reports, including Uproxx, the Greek Freak has just agreed on a three-year $186 million contract extension. What a sigh of relief for this franchise. Giannis made plenty of statements that he was not fully committed until the front office showed their desire to compete for titles. Well, they responded to his wishes. Bringing in Damian Lillard solved everything. Furthermore, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski says that the deal includes a player option for the 2027-2028 campaign.

Besides keeping Giannis in a Bucks jersey, maybe the most important part is that his and Dame’s contracts align perfectly. The star point guard’s deal expires in 2027 as well, so that will be another offseason to pay attention to. While it was difficult to see Jrue Holiday be shipped to Boston, there is no doubt that the offensive firepower will be even more formidable. Giannis put up 31 points per game and Damian averaged 32.

Woj Confirms Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Deal

Milwaukee had until midnight last night to get an extension done and they pulled it off. It was quite a surprise as Giannis broke the news on Twitter. “MILWAUKEEEEEEEEE!! Let’s get it!!!! #BucksInSix #Extended.” It is essentially an arms race between the Bucks and Celtics for the Eastern Conference crown. You can catch Freaky Time on Thursday when they host the Philadelphia 76ers ay 7:30 ET on TNT. As of now, they are the favorites to win at -5.5.

Roger Goodell Receives Three-Year Extension From NFL Owners

Roger Goodell will remain NFL commissioner until at least 2027 following a vote to approve a three-year contract extension at the NFL Owners’ meeting. “It really was quite simple, honestly. It was just a matter of getting to it, frankly. It wasn’t much of a discussion. It was pretty quick. I’m obviously honored to do this job,” Goodell said of the process leading to his extension. While the details of the new contract were not made public, it is believed to be the most lucrative in the history of league commissioner contracts, regardless of sport. Furthermore, Goodell’s contract likely contains a wealth of incentives tied to the league’s continued financial success.

Goodell took over as NFL commissioner in 2006 and has helped launch the league into the stratosphere in terms of financial and cultural success. One of this most recent achievements has been helping achieve the inclusion of flag football in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. However, it has not been smooth sailing. Several major scandals have overshadowed the league and Goodell. The most notable of these was the actions of former Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder. Snyder’s behavior ended up putting the NFL in front of Congress. However, Goodell has been able to weather each and every storm with minimal disruption, making him very valuable to the owners.

Goodell Speaks On The Future

“From my standpoint, there’s still a number of things that we want to do as a league. It’s not my agenda. When we talked about a long-range plan [with owners], we talked about, ‘this is your long-range plan’. Listen, there are a lot of challenges out there, but there are also a lot of opportunities for us. We’re focused on how we make the NFL better every day, how we become a global sport. I think some very exciting things are happening in that context. I feel really good about where the National Football League is today, but we don’t sit around and tell ourselves that. We really focus on the things that we need to do.”

Furthermore, Goodell, 64, was non-committal about whether this fourth contract extension would be his last. “We will see what the future holds. Other than that, over the next three years, I’m going to bust my butt,” Goodell said. If one had to guess, Goodell will likely take a short-term extension to see the league through the 2028 Olympics before stepping down. Goodell first joined the NFL in 1982 as an administrative intern under Commissioner Pete Rozelle.

Jarred Vanderbilt Signs 4-Year Extension With The Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a four-year, $46 million extension for Jarred Vanderbilt. Acquired from the Jazz near the trade deadline last season, Vanderbilt was a key defensive piece for the Lakers down the stretch. The 24-year-old averaged 7.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 26 games for the Lakers. He is the fifth Laker to receive a multi-season extension this offseason. Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura have all been locked down for at least two more seasons in LA.

It’s another move that sees the Lakers prioritize their youthful core. While Vanderbilt has definitely proven his worth as a defender, one has to wonder if this is a move to safeguard against a LeBron exit next summer. It’s widely believed that if Bronny James leaves USC for the NBA, LeBron will leave the Lakers for whatever team drafts his son. ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst has gone as far as to say he believes LeBron is more interested in playing with Bronny than winning rings at this point in his career.

Former Laker Dwight Howard Speaking With Warriors

While the Lakers are locking down their starters, the Warriors are looking to add depth.

The Golden State Warriors will meet with Dwight Howard next week, according to Shams Charania. The Warriors have spent the latter half of the offseason searching for a depth big man. Howard is 37 and has spent the last two years in Taiwan. He last played in the NBA in 2022 following his third stint on the Lakers.

Howard is an eight-time All-Star, last earning the honor in 2014. Furthermore, he has also been named to five All-NBA First Teams, the last coming in 2012. Other players the Warriors have considered adding include Blake Griffin. However, as noted by The Athletic, “Would Howard enter the situation with the correct mindset? If he doesn’t play for two straight weeks, would he be fine with that? If they tell him to rebound, remain physical but never expect a play run in his direction, would he remain content? Is there any concern he’d become a distraction on the sideline or in the locker room for a franchise that is already attempting quite the chemistry experiment bringing Chris Paul into the mix?”

Cincinnati Bengals Make Joe Burrow The Highest-Paid Player In NFL History

The Bengals have finally locked quarterback Joe Burrow into a long-term deal. After months of negotiations, it was revealed that Burrow would become the highest-paid player in NFL history. His new deal with the Bengals is a five-year, $275 million extension with $219.01 million guaranteed. The deal surpasses those of Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, and Lamar Jackson, all signed this summer and all briefly the biggest in NFL history.

“This is where I want to be. This is where I want to be my whole career. We’re working toward making that happen. You’ve seen what the front office has done and what Zac [Taylor] has done in their time here. I’m a small part of that [and] I’m excited to be a part of that. I’m going to keep playing well. I feel great about the organization and everybody in the locker room and in the coaching staff. [The contract] is the icing on the cake to me. I’m just excited to be out here,” Burrow told reporters.

Burrow Ready To Ride 2022 Momentum

Burrow has just 42 career games to his name. However, he is already a Super Bowl participant and a Pro Bowler at one of the league’s most hotly-contested positions. Despite suffering a calf injury during training camp, Burrow is expected to be under center for the Bengals when they open their season against the Browns on Sunday. While their secondary was gutted in the offseason, the team is expected to win their third consecutive AFC North title this season. However, a lot of that will hinge on whether Burrow can maintain his hot start as the team’s starter.

“He’s a motivated player, he’s a motivated teammate, he’s a motivated leader,” Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin. “He puts the time in to make sure that he is ready to go and then he drives others to be ready to go. So all the things we liked about him from the very start have been true and he’s kept that up.” Burrow also enters the season with the second-best odds to win MVP. That journey got off a perfect start when award favorite Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs lost their season opener to the Lions.

LSU Make Kim Mulkey The Richest Coach In Women’s Basketball

As their title defense season approaches, LSU has locked down their head coach. The LSU Board of Supervisors is expected to approve a 10-year, $32 million contract for Mulkey, which will set the mark as the richest contract in the history of collegiate women’s basketball. Prior to his contract, Mulkey was already one of the top-paid coaches in the game, alongside the likes of Geno Auriemma (UConn) and Dawn Staley (South Carolina).

Mulkey came to LSU ahead of the 2021-22 season after spending the last two decades turning Baylor into a national powerhouse. However, 2022-23 was her statement year with the Tigers, using the portal to create a super team that would go on to win the school’s first National Championship. With her new contract in place, Mulkey will be free to continue building LSU into a true dynasty, even after the departure of superstar Angel Reese.

LSU Ready To Run It Back With Superteam 2.0

Mulkey leads another superteam heading into the school’s title defense campaign. LSU stands as far and away the best roster in women’s basketball heading into the 2023-24 season. The addition of Hailey Van Lith raised them above UConn to the #1 spot on ESPN‘s “Way Too Early Top 25” back in April. However, the addition of Aneesah Morrow made that ranking unarguable. Alongside Reese, Van Lith, Morrow, Kim Mulkey’s squad is stacked. Alongside sophomore-to-be Flau’jae Johnson, LSU welcomes two top-10 freshmen to Baton Rogue in the fall. With South Carolina rebuilding after the loss of their generational class, this may be the year LSU wins the SEC. LSU last won the SEC regular-season championship in 2008 but has not claimed the tournament title since 2003.

LSU recently revealed that they will open their season against Colorado in Vegas on November 6. Other highlights of their non-conference schedule include Virginia and Virginia Tech. While it’s not as much of a cupcake schedule as last season, Mulkey is still clearly avoiding any true coin-toss matchups before the start of SEC play in January. Despite this, DraftKings lists LSU at +350 as their favorite to win the 2024 National Championship. Do you agree? Nick Bosa Becomes Highest-Paid Defensive Player In NFL History

Nick Bosa and the San Francisco 49ers have made history as a new extension for defensive end makes Bosa the highest-paid defensive player in league history. The Niners announced they had signed Bosa to a 5-year, $170 million extension, with $122.5 million guaranteed. That surpasesses Aaron Donald for highest per-year salary and Bosa’s brother Joey for total money guaranteed.

Furthermore, the deal comes as a major relief for Niners fans. The team typically signs its big-name extensions at the start of training camp. However, it took until less than a week before the Niners season-opener to sign Bosa. While neither side was worried that the deal wouldn’t go throw, it was something a tense time in Niner Nation. However, the new deal means that Bosa will absolutely be in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Steelers.

Bosa Locked In With Niners

While uncertainty reigns at the quarterback position for the Niners, they can sleep a little more soundly knowing that they have locked up the defending Defensive Player of the Year for the next half-decade. 2022 was a career year for Bosa, who received his third consectutive Pro Bowl nomination as well as being named to his first All-Pro Team. Bosa racked up 51 tackles and 18.5 sacks during a dominant season for the 25-year-old. He also forced two fumbles. The Niners reached the AFC Championship Game but were blown out by the Eagles 31-7.

The Niners, who went 1-2 in the preseason, open the year against the Steelers on September 10. They will have to wait until Week 3 for their home opener, when they welcome the Giants to Levi Stadium. Brock Purdy, 2022’s Mr. Irrelevant and that season’s savior for the Niners, is once again slated to be QB1. The Niners acquired Sam Darnold to back him up while trading former first-round pick Trey Lance to the Cowboys. How do you think the Niners will do this season? Let us know in the comments. Anthony Davis Signs Three-Year Extension With The Los Angeles Lakers

The Brow is staying in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future. Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN that Anthony Davis had signed a three-year extension with the Los Angeles Lakers worth $270 million. The contract, that keeps AD in LA through 2028 is the richest per-year contract in NBA history, coming in at $62 million a year. Davis entered the offseason with two years and $84 million left on his current contract. The new extension will trigger in 2025.

Injuries have plagued Davis’ last few seasons. He has failed to reach the 60-game milestone in the past three seasons, playing 56 games in 2022-23. Despite this, he remains a core part of the Lakers’ championship roster alongside LeBron James. In the 2022-23 season, Davis put up 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Davis has played in LA since a blockbuster brought him over from the Pelicans in 2019. “Couldn’t think more highly of Anthony Davis as a Laker and as a player,” GM Rob Pelinka said recently. “He’s helped deliver a championship to our franchise. He’s been an incredible captain and leader.”

AD Preparing For Future Without LeBron?

Up until this point, Davis and LeBron had their contracts running concurrently after both signing extensions following their 2020 championship. However, Davis is now on the books until 2028 while LeBron has a player option in for the 2024-25 season. A number of other Lakers signings this offseason are also on contracts that expire in 2025. Could it be that the Lakers are preparing for a future without LeBron, be it due to retirement or other circumstances?

LeBron has made it very clear that he wants to play alongside his son Bronny before he leaves the NBA. Given that the Lakers likely won’t have a first-round pick in 2024, it’s unlikely that Bronny lands with the team. Of course, this is also dependent on Bronny’s recovery and future following his cardiac arrest last month. However, many experts believe that LeBron will decline his 2024-25 player option and sign with whichever drafts his son. As this is a well-known scenario, it could be that the Lakers are setting themselves up to retain at least one cornerstone veteran for the near future.

Cam Jordan Intends To Retire With Saints Following New Extension

Cam Jordan has announced his intention to retire as a member of the New Orleans Saints after signing a two-year extension with the team. The eight-time Pro Bowler, who turned 34 last month, was drafted by the Saints in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. In the last decade-plus, he has become one of the league’s most dependable defensive ends, racking up over 600 tackles and 100 sacks. Alongside his eight Pro Bowl appearances, he was also named First Team All-Pro in 2017.

According to Jordan’s representatives, he has now signed a two-year, $27.5 million extension with the Saints which will keep him in New Orleans through 2025. “I want to finish my career here,” Jordan said. “I want my storyline to be here.” He continued, I would love that my story has been drafted here, kept here, been here, never played a season without guaranteed money here. That’s probably in a category of its own right there. The story is to let unfold, finish and be here. So maybe Year 15, if there is a Year 16 [possibility], we’ll talk about it then. Probably won’t be,” Jordan told the media.

Jordan Wants To Be A Saints Lifer

Jordan’s desire to be a one-team player stems from the legacy of his father. Steve Jordan spent a 12-year career entirely with the Minnesota Vikings between 1982 and 1994. However, Jordan now has his focus squarely set on the 2023 season. Last year he overtook Ricky Jackson as the Saints’ franchise sacks leader. Jordan’s 115.5 sacks is the second-highest amongst active players. However, now Jordan wants to pass Jackson’s unofficial record of 123. The 123 mark is technically unofficial as sacks were not tracked during Jackson’s rookie year.

“Earning the official record last year was a phenomenal milestone,” Jordan said. “I’ve still got to get that unofficial. We’ll talk about it later.” In terms of other milestones, Jordan needs just five appearances to move into second place on the all-time appearance list for the Saints. Drew Brees currently holds the record with 228 appearances. “It has been such a phenomenal and amazing experience that I couldn’t see myself being in anything but Black and Gold,” Jordan said.

Boston Celtics And Jaylen Brown To Resume Contract Talks Next Week

Jaylen Brown is currently seeking a supermax extension from the Boston Celtics. The 26-year-old is eligible to sign a five-year, $295 million extension. However, the Celtics have so far appeared unwilling to go all in on the two-time all-star. This is likely a result of the new CBA going much harder on penalizing teams who exceed the salary cap. While the Celtics would love to keep Brown, they will also be on the hook for a $300 million-plus extension for Tatum next year. In short – there’s a lot of money in the air for the Celtics.

However, the two sides broke off talks before Brown headed to Spain for an NBPA retreat. Brown was drafted third overall by the Celtics in 2016 and has been a key element in their title contention aspirations ever since. Last season, Brown had a career year as the Celtics reached the Eastern Conference Finals. The guard had 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Furthermore, he shot 49.1% from the field. He is the perfect tandem partner for Jayson Tatum and the pair will be crucial to any Boston title runs.

Brown To Resume Contract Talks

Per Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, contract talks are slated to resume next week between Brown and the Celtics. “With Jaylen Brown now back in Boston from his NBPA retreat in Spain, contract talks will resume next week, according to a league source,” Washburn wrote on Twitter. While Brown can go to free agency next year, he would only be able to sign a four-year deal with a team other than the Celtics. Clearly, there is a desire on both sides to find a deal.

The Celtics have been busy this offseason. The Celtics traded for Kristaps Porziņģis, also receiving Memphis’ 2023 first-round draft pick, and Golden State’s 2024 top-four protected first-round draft pick. Meanwhile, the Wizards received Tyus Jones from the Grizzlies, and Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala, and a 2023 second-round pick from Boston. Finally, Memphis received Marcus Smart from the Celtics. If they can lock up Brown and Tatum long-term, they would be set to compete for the rest of the decade. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.

Las Vegas Aces Sign A’ja Wilson To Two-Year Extension

Two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson will remain with the defending champion Las Vegas Aces through at least 2025. Wilson signed a two-year extension on June 30, keeping her with the team that drafted her first overall in 2018. Wilson has consistently been one of the league’s best players since she joined the league. She won league MVP in 2020 and 2022, while also leading the Aces to their inaugural title last season.

“When the Aces made me their first-ever draft pick, they entrusted me with a lot,” added Wilson. “I’m happy to still be in Las Vegas, winning games, playing at a high level, but also being a part of a community that has embraced me and my teammates over the past six years, and made this city a second home for me.” Meanwhile, the Aces were happy to keep her around. “A’ja Wilson is a generational talent and a huge foundational piece to our team and organization,” Aces general manager Natalie Williams said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have her re-sign and be here in Las Vegas for the next two years.”

Wilson Signs Extension After Superteam Blowout

Wilson’s extension comes the day after the Aces faced off against the league’s other superteam, the New York Liberty. Both teams entered the game leading their respective conferences. However, it would be the Aces that proved themselves to be the better outfit with a blowout. The two sides kept it close in the first half before the Aces outscored the Liberty 27-14 in the third quarter. The final score was 98-89, with the Aces improving to a 14-1 record. That mark ties the record for the best start to a season through 15 games.

All the Aces starters hit double-digit points, with Wilson recording a 16/3/3 stat line. Fellow Ace Kelsey Plum led all scorers with 18 points. Meanwhile, the Liberty saw many of their biggest stars struggle. Sabrina Ionescu went 7/6/7, marking the third time in the last four games that she failed to reach 10 points. Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with a 16/5/3 line. Next up for the Liberty are the Seattle Storm on July 2. Meanwhile, the Aces host the Eastern Conference-leading Connecticut Sun on July 1.
