J. Cole Named Best Rapper Of 2023 By Complex, Debate Ensues

Complex has named J. Cole the best rapper of 2023 for a piece in which they pick an artist who dominated each year since 1979. In doing so, Complex argues Cole has “over a dozen standout features across several genres” and cites “First Person Shooter,” “The Secret Recipe,” “All My Life,” “Evil Ways,” “Thanks,” “On My Block,” “Passport Bros,” and more as examples. The outlet also notes that “First Person Shooter” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Cole managed to assert his dominance and showcase his lyrical prowess without even putting out a solo album,” the staff writes. “On the 13 songs that Cole appeared in 2023, he always delivered the track’s best performance, even when rapping with fellow heavyweights like Drake, Lil Durk, and Lil Yachty. Every new Cole verse was a moment that had the rap world buzzing, and he was able to do this in several genres, from Afrobeats and R&B to K-pop, and trap.”

The decision has warranted plenty of debate on social media. When TheHipHopWolf posted the ranking on Instagram, one fan argued Drake outperformed Cole on both of their 2023 collaborations. “No disrespect… Drake ripped him on both songs…. Drake is sadly the best male rapper and it’s not close,” they commented. Another wrote: “I know like 10 local rappers more worthy of that bold ass title lol.” Many also defended Cole’s placement. One fan remarked: “Yes. He’s the last of a dying breed from the previous era and still the best of the current era.”

Danny Brown Says He Hates The Fit Check Trend

Danny Brown recently shared his thoughts on the “fit check” trend during an episode of That’s Deep with Complex. He expresses his disapproval of the trend and its impact, particularly on younger audiences. Moreover, the Detroit native, known for his distinctive fashion sense, believes that the trend can have detrimental effects on kids and their perception of value. In the interview, Danny voiced his concerns, stating, “I think it really sucks because it really messes up with the kids, you know?” He goes on to share a personal experience, highlighting the absurdity of younger family members asking for high-end fashion items like Balenciagas.

Furthermore, he emphasizes the disconnect between these expensive desires and the financial reality of young individuals who may not have a source of income. Expressing his own journey with fashion, Danny reminisces about his excitement at getting a pair of Reebok Pumps for $100, considering it a significant achievement. However, he contrasts this with the current trend where kids aspire to own $1,000 shoes, equating it to months’ worth of rent. This observation reflects Danny’s concern about the distorted values that the “fit check” trend might be instilling in younger generations.

Danny Brown Shares His Opinion

Moreover, Danny Brown challenges the notion that expensive clothing automatically equates to style. He continues, “There’s somebody out there that can go to Burlington Coat Factory and get fresher than somebody that’s just wearing all designer.” However, he emphasizes the importance of individual style and suggests that it is not about the amount of money spent on clothes but about personal expression. A fair statement.

His commentary on the interview serves as a critique of the materialistic aspect of the fashion industry. Moreover, the influence it has on shaping the desires and priorities of younger individuals. In the world of hip-hop and fashion, where trends often emerge and gain popularity swiftly, Danny Brown’s perspective offers a valuable and grounded reflection on the impact of such trends. Urging a focus on personal style and authenticity over the pursuit of expensive labels. What are your thoughts? Let us know on HNHH!

Funny Marco Thinks Bobbi Althoff Joint Tour Could Still Happen

If there was an award for “Best Breakout Comedy Star of 2023,” both Funny Marco and Bobbi Althoff would easily be in the running. They’ve been hard at work for longer, but this year is when they really started to get a lot more attention, laughs, and opportunities. However, it seems like things between the two are not as buddy-buddy as they once were, or Marco is just trolling us a little with his demeanor. Moreover, he recently spoke to Complex‘s Speedy Morman for 360 With Speedy at ComplexCon 2023 and addressed a previous promise that they would go on tour together eventually.

As their conversation began to wrap up, Morman asked Funny Marco about Bobbi Althoff and how he appeared on her show. When he asked what their relationship is like and whether they’ll go on the tour that they promised, Marco started drinking from his water bottle and asked how much time they had left (3 minutes, by the way). Speedy had already mentioned that their initial dates disappeared, so something must’ve happened, and Marco said that “she didn’t feel good,” so they scrapped it. Once Althoff feels better, though, he’s down to hop back on the road and talk about “just a whole bunch of fun stuff.”

Funny Marco Bizarrely Answers Bobbi Althoff Question

Furthermore, during this same sit-down, Funny Marco also spoke on his first-ever Open Thoughts interview with DaBaby. “It was dangerous,” he chuckled. “When I asked DaBaby why he rapped the same, I was trying to ask for the people. That was something I shouldn’t have did, but I did it. But it was great. We ended up making a great episode, got a great relationship. But sometimes I’m like, don’t ask what the people want to know– just ask what you need to know. So that was something that I learned from that.”

Meanwhile, Althoff’s been pretty low-key as of late, perhaps due to backlash for recent interview snippets. Either way, if she’s not feeling well, we wish her a speedy recovery with hopes that she’ll be able to enjoy this tour. These comedians are known for their dry humor, so that bizarre chemistry should be something pretty comical to see. Cam’ron Says “Pause” Too Much, He Admits In New Interview

Cam’ron is an incredibly charismatic entertainer, and one whose sports talk show It Is What It Is with Mase shows off these qualities even more. He’s funny, quick-witted, blunt, and most iconically when it comes to his everyday statements, is always looking for ways to think with a dirtier mind for comedic effect. Moreover, the rapper recently admitted during an interview with Complex published on Monday (December 11) that he says “pause” too much. If you don’t know what that’s referring to, some men say “pause” when they or another man imply something sexual with another man, and the “pause” is usually for comedic effect.

“Sometimes I try to take it out,” Cam’ron shared with the publication. “But as soon as I do, somebody’s in the comments like, ‘Yo, that’s cr*zy, Cam. How you ain’t say pause? That was wild, you ain’t gonna say pause?’ Then I gotta be petty and keep saying this s**t because now n***as coming at me like I said some wild s**t. So to answer your question, I don’t even want to say it that much, but s**t done got out of hand, man.

“S**t, the pause s**t has got out of hand, man,” Cam’ron continued. “I learned that s**t when I was like 12, 13 years old from East Harlem, Jefferson Projects, man. It’s one of them things to stand on your toes, like, ‘Oh, it’s a joke.’ You know, people don’t have to get that offended. We have no beef with LGBTQ. Like, what I say to that is you can create your own s**t.

“N***a be like, ‘Yo, I’m gonna get some p***y– like, no hetero,’” he concluded. “You could change the game however you want, my n***a. It’s not subscribed to one particular sexuality. It’s whatever. However you wanna play the game.” For more news and the latest updates on Cam’ron, stay up to date on HNHH.

Cam’ron Trolls Skip Bayless As “Complex” Ranks Him And Mase Higher On Sports Personalities List

Cam’ron took a shot at Skip Bayless after he and Ma$e were ranked higher than the Undisputed host on Complex‘s list of sports personalities. “Congrats 2 my big bros @stephenasmith and @shannonsharpe84 for securing the top spots!! And Thx @complex for the write up. Number 6 ain’t bad for our 9th month in business. And everyone before us is on TV.. we appreciate y’all!! Here’s some others on the list!! Hey skip!! Down there lol Yeah Murder!!! @rsvpmase @itiswhatitis_talk And thank you @underdogfantasy,” Cam’ron wrote on Instagram.

It Is What It Is has quickly become a fan-favorite sports show, despite the lack of sports expertise and it’s unorthodox home on YouTube. While there were rumblings earlier in the year that a major network was in talks to acquire the show, that does not appear to have come to pass. However, Cam’ron has been transparent about aiming high. His latest hints suggested that a major NBA legend will soon be joining the show’s main cast. It remains to be seen if that will still occur. However, It Is What It Is‘ star is shining bright and set to only shine brighter in 2024.

First Take Dominating Undisputed

However, losing out to Cam’ron and Ma$e isn’t the only thing that Bayless has had to deal with this week. According to Front Office Sports, over the last week of November and the first week of December, First Take averaged more than 5.5 times the viewership of Undisputed. Furthermore, November finished with the best monthly viewership figures in the 16-year history of First Take.

The gap between the two shows has only continued to grow over the second half of 2023. Despite a complete retooling, Undisputed has been unable to bounce back from losing Shannon Sharpe to ESPN back in June. No matter what Skip Bayless tries, including getting a live college commitment announcement on the show, nothing is helping close the gap with the Stephen A. Smith-led vehicle. Not even adding the likes of Lil Wayne has helped Undisputed catch up.

NBA YoungBoy Slams The Music Industry As “Demonic”

NBA YoungBoy says the music industry is “demonic” and forces within it are using him as an entertainment product. He discussed his place in the industry during an interview with Complex at his home in Utah, where he’s been under house arrest since 2021.

“It’s a demonic industry that I chose to be a part of,” he said in the clip. “So it’s like, I accept it. I run with it. But don’t be a dummy at the same time. You gotta understand, they’re using me as entertainment. And this sh*t becomes self-destruction too, ’cause I ain’t an entertainer. Some sh*t can’t be spoke on. Why? Man, ’cause this sh*t is to be continued.”

YoungBoy has faced numerous legal issues over the years including several cases of federal firearm charges. In 2021, he was released on $1.5 million bail and ordered to live under house arrest while awaiting trial. Amid that ongoing process, YoungBoy has been heavily focused on getting music out to his fans. Just earlier this month, he dropped his fourth new project of 2023, Decided 2. Across the 18-song tracklist, YoungBoy collaborated with just one artist, Rod Wave. It’s the second time they’ve worked together as of late, after previously pairing up on “Home Ain’t Home” off The Last Slimeto in 2022. Earlier this year, YoungBoy dropped I Rest My Case in January, Don’t Try This At Home in April, and Richest Opp in May. Check out YoungBoy’s full interview with Complex below.

Rick Ross Remembers The Time His Ankle Monitor Went Off In Front Of Barack Obama

Renowned rapper Rick Ross found himself in an unforgettable predicament when his ankle monitor unexpectedly went off in the presence of former President Barack Obama. In a recent interview with Complex, Rick Ross confirmed the incident, providing a glimpse into this extraordinary encounter. The interviewer asked if it was true if the incident happened, to which Rick responded it was. “I did,” admitted Rick Ross with a nonchalant demeanor, acknowledging the moment when his ankle monitor disrupted the presence of one of the most influential figures in American history. Meek Mill, who was also present during the interview, recounted the aftermath of this extraordinary encounter. The two were laughing about it because Ross was clearly embarrassed about it.

Ross had the unique privilege of meeting President Obama in 2016, a meeting that demanded the surrender of all electronic devices. The room where this historic meeting took place was not your average setting; it was filled with several hip-hop icons, making it a truly iconic moment. At the time, Rick Ross was on house arrest. He remembered the moment it happened, and proceeded to slouch down on the couch as he retold how he felt in the moment. “The Secret Service started moving because everybody gave away they phones—all electronics had to be given up,” Ross said. “So when something started making a noise, you saw all the people in the back and I’m like, ‘Damn.’ And then it finally went off and then Obama had to say something. I ain’t gonna repeat it out of respect for Obama though.”

Rick Ross Was Embarrassed

It’s a funny story, for sure. Fans reacted to hearing this story as well as the overall interview on social media. “Am sorry but I don’t know why am laughing [crying laughing face emoji,” one person wrote. “Meek and Ross are the funniest combo man, its good seeing them in this light,” another person said. “Funniest thing I seen was Ross speaking on prison reform,” someone else commented.

Rick Ross has been speaking out on all kinds of things lately. Moreover, he spoke with Rolling Stone the other day to share his thoughts on Jada Pinkett Smith. “To me, she’s psychologically lost and needs some counseling,” Rick Ross said of the actress. “Jesus! What are you going to tell us next? When you tell us you haven’t been together in six years, you haven’t had sex in this many years, you don’t have a prenuptial agreement — OK, what’s next?” It’s clear Ross is not holding back in any of these interviews.
