Che Noir Bodies Some Home-cooked Beats On “The Lotus Child”

Sometimes, hip-hop artists don’t always enjoy the writing and rapping aspect the most. Sometimes, they like getting behind the boards and piecing together melodies and instruments. That was the case for Che Noir, Buffalo, New York rapper and affiliate of 38 Spesh. She said it herself in the announcement of her latest record on social media. “I can’t wait til y’all hear what I cooked up on these beats. Production was my first love before rapping so it means the world to me to be back producing for myself,” Che Noir said about The Lotus Child. This her latest release in a busy 2024 that’s been filled with singles and an impressive EP in The Color Chocolate, Vol. 1.

If you aren’t too familiar with Che’s discography, her self-producing a project isn’t anything new. According to Underground Hip-Hop Blog, she was able to lay down some beats for her fourth EP After 12. Given all of this experience and passion for beat making, it’s not at all a shock that the soundscapes are lush and excellently crafted. Che is able to hit you with dark and aggressive boom-bap and vintage-esque R&B flavors as well. But all of this creative energy isn’t lacking in her performances on the mic at all. She raps about love, difficulties, and losses in her life, so the diversity is there topically as well. It’s another standout effort from Che Noir, so give it a try below.

Talib Kweli Teams Up With Producer J. Rawls For “The Confidence Of Knowing”

Talib Kweli is a legend in the hip-hop game thanks to his wide range of talents and ability to work with so many different artists. The Black Star and Reflection Eternal affiliate has been pretty active over the last two years in terms of singles and projects and this weekend he’s continuing that trend. Talib Kweli has just dropped off The Confidence Of Knowing, which is being advertised as album number 10.

However, he’s not releasing this 13-song effort alone, though. Columbus, Ohio underground producer J. Rawls is here too. Here, he’s tasked with laying down East Coast beats on every cut and there’s a nice mixture of sounds to be had. Of course, on top of that, Talib is bringing some food for thought and clever bars like these on one of the lead singles, “Native Sons”. “Bragging about material objects with people starving, bruh / And that’s why the phrase “eat the rich” is so popular / Please, these elitists can never defeat the populace“. There’s also some solid guests on the docket. IDK, Rass Kass, Blu, Planet Asia, and Jimetta Rose are a few of the multi-talented sidekicks. Overall, there’s a lot to like and Talib is showing that he’s still got more than enough juice for the 2020’s decade.

Flee Lord & Crisis Preview New Album With “Play Amongst The Stars” Featuring Inspectah Deck

Flee Lord and Crisis have been a sneaky good duo for a little bit now. The two native New Yorkers, by way of Queens and the Bronx, got really familiar with each other about one year ago. The rapper and producer tandem dropped 2-3 Zone, a 13-song project with some impressive features. Bun B, 38 Spesh, Conway the Machine, and more could be found on this tape. Pretty soon, we will be able to hear Flee and Crisis on another project. In fact, that day will be next Friday, March 22.

Then, they will release a sort of sequel to the basketball-themed title of 2-3 Zone, with Full Court Press. So far, the duo has already given us a track to check out from it with “Vibe.” It hit streaming at the start of March and it has become a hit with their fans. In fact, it is already Flee Lord’s second most popular track on Spotify.

To capitalize on the positive reception, they are back to give us another taste of how intense this Full Court Press will be. “Play Amongst The Stars” sees Flee and Crisis work with the Wu-Tang Clan legend himself, Inspectah Deck. This is now the fourth member Lord has had the chance to work with. He took time to recognize that in his IG post announcing the single. “I got Songs Wit Rae, Ghost & Meff this My 4Th Wu Member/Living Legend I’ve had a chance to create and build with, being from Far Rockaway s*** like this don’t happen but then again anything is possible if you work hard for it.”

Travis Scott And Young Thug’s “OUT WEST” Shows Why They Are The Best Psychedelic Trap Duo

When you think of the top-flight trap artists, what are some names that come to mind? For us, Travis Scott and Young Thug are near the top of that list. These two have a slightly different approach when it comes to their methodology of trap. Each takes a more wavy, woozy, and psychedelic direction compared to most. Since 2014, La Flame and Thug have been working closely together.

It all started on the Houston artist’s second project, Days Before Rodeo. “Skyfall” and “Mamacita” got things started. Since then, Scott and Thugger have nailed the perfect formula that transports you to their drug-filled world. One of the prime examples of this was 2019’s “OUT WEST.” Four years ago today, Travis’ label Cactus Jack Records released their debut collaborative album, JACKBOYS.

Relisten To “OUT WEST” By Travis Scott And Young Thug

The tight seven-song tape saw him and Thug bring a laid-back but turnt party anthem. Buddah Bless provided a floaty beat with a killer flute sample. Travis and Thug matched each other perfectly once again. The Georgia artist brought a killer chorus, while Scott, delivered his signature low-key and effortless flow on the second verse. With so many great songs together, it is nearly impossible to find the perfect spot to rank this offering.

What were your initial thoughts on “OUT WEST” by Travis Scott and Young Thug? Is this still the best song from Scott’s JACKBOYS tape? Where do you rank this track amongst the rest of his and Thug’s collaborations? Do you think that these two are the best duo when it comes to making psychedelic trap songs? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest breaking news around Travis Scott, Young Thug, and JACKBOYS. Finally, stay with us for the best song posts throughout the week.

These days, I balance all the hate out with the love
These days, I pour all of my pain out in a cup (Drank)
Dreamy, that’s just a side effect when you with us (Game)
Easy, the dawgs is right behind me, they on edge
Believe me, we pop out in the city to collect (Ooh)

Talib Kweli & Madlib Announce Joint Album, “Liberation 2”

Talib Kweli and Madlib just announced Liberation 2, a sequel to their 2007 collab album releasing on March 6. While it will release exclusively on the Luminary podcast network, they released the project’s first single “After These Messages” via a YouTube music video. Moreover, the track features a very special performance from Kweli’s son, Amani. In addition, the Black Star’s daughter Diani will also appear on Liberation 2‘s tracklist. With this announcement, hip-hop fans are likely salivating at this collaboration between two legends in the game.

Still, the fact that it’s only coming out via a podcast network is likely disappointing for the Spotify-aligned fans out there. However, it calls back to its first installment, Liberation, and its similarly unorthodox release. Moreover, Kweli and Madlib released the album as a full download online in early 2007. It wasn’t in record stores, but rather on the Stones Throw Rappcats website and both artists’ MySpace pages. Also, this isn’t the first time the Brooklyn rapper has worked with Luminary. Exclusively through that platform, he and Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) released a long-awaited return from their duo Black Star. Their album No Fear of Time released in May of 2022.

Furthermore, the sequel to their fan-favorite Liberation collaboration will feature Q-Tip, Roc Marciano, and Westside Gunn. In addition, Liberation 2 is reportedly including a posthumous Mac Miller performance, as well. Kweli expressed that their recording process took a decade, and spoke on his thematic intent. “People today are taking stock of what is most important — family, health, wellness, love,” he remarked in a statement. “The materialism and debauchery that is stereotypically associated with hip-hop has lost some of its luster.

“Madlib and I have been consistent in our messaging,” he continued. “Never has there been a better time for such honest, message-driven music that pays tribute to the sounds that came before us.” Whereas Talib recently revived his duo, the legendary producer beside him recently continued his work on forming one of the best current duos. Him and Freddie Gibbs have incredible chemistry on wax, as evidenced by their most recent effort, 2019’s Bandada. Regardless, come back to HNHH for the upcoming album, and for more release news from your favorite hip-hop artists.

Black Thought & El Michels Affair Prep Joint Project With “Grateful”

Black Thought and El Michels Affair joined forces for a brand new single off of their upcoming collaborative project.

This morning, Black Thought and El Michels Affair came through with their first single, “Grateful.” Black Thought’s rhyme play and veteran-level skillset meets the smooth, jazzy production of El Michels Affair for a certified heater. El Michel cook up flute-laden production, accentuated by a haunting vocal sample and woozy guitar riffs. It’s undoubtedly a perfect soundscape for Black Thought’s vivid storytelling and slick wordplay.

Black Thought and El Michels Affair’s new single kicks off the campaign for Glorious Game, due out on April 14th. The project boasts 12 songs in total with appearances from Kirby and Brainstory.

The two parties are no stranger to one another. They began working together in the early 2000s during a string of charity concerts in NYC and Philadelphia. However, the pandemic opened the gates for a more concentrated collaborative effort after Black Thought reached out to Michels to work on some material.

While we might not get another project from The Roots in the foreseeable future, Black Thought has kept his foot on the gas over the past few years. In 2022, he teamed up with Danger Mouse for their joint effort, Cheat Codes, which later landed on HNHH’s Hottest Hip-Hop Albums Of The Year list.

Check out the new single below and keep your eyes peeled for more music from The Roots frontman and El Michels. We’re certainly excited to hear Glorious Game in full.

Quotable Lyrics
One for the will of man, two for the kilogram
Three for the cold killer who can still be a millionaire
Feelin’ the frigid air, big plates and silverware
Where everybody eat except the one who was ill-prepared
