The 2024 Billboard Music Awards are set to air on December 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox (or on-demand via Paramount+). Aside from the awards themselves, the broadcast will also feature performances, and now we’re getting a clearer idea of who’s involved.
Today (December 4), it was revealed that Coldplay has joined the show. This news follows the announcements of Seventeen, Teddy Swims, and Tyla as performers earlier this week.
Coldplay is a finalist in a pair of categories this year: Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Touring Artist. It seems like they have a good shot in at least the latter category, considering their Music Of The Spheres tour has brought in about a billion dollars (not hyperbole) as the highest-grossing rock tour ever.
Meanwhile, both Swims and Tyla are in the running for a number of awards. Tyla is up for Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, Top Afrobeats Artist, Top R&B Album (for Tyla), Top R&B Song (for “Water”), and Top Afrobeats song (for “Truth Or Dare,” “Water,” AND “Jump” with Gunna and Skillibeng). As for Swims, he’s a finalist for Top New Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Streaming Song, Top Radio Song, Top Selling Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song, and Top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.) Song (all for “Lose Control”). Seventeen is also up for Top K-Pop Touring Artist.
Coldplay is currently making its way through Australia and New Zealand on the Music Of The Spheres tour. The band generated a bit of attention for their November 10 performance, when they unexpectedly busted out a brief rendition of Travis Scott’s “Goosebumps,” with Chris Martin calling it his favorite of Scott’s songs (here’s a video).
The moment made its way back to Scott, who seems to have enjoyed it: He shared the clip and wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “This got it. [goat emoji].”
Scott has long had reverence for the band, going as far as to reference Coldplay on multiple songs. On 2016’s “Way Back,” he says, “Hopped in the Bronco, skrrt off like OJ / Flew with that sound, n****, got that Coldplay.” He again nodded to the band on last year’s “Til Further Notice”, saying, “I been bumpin’ more Coldplay, the world cold as sh*t / I know one thing ’bout the old one, can have more fun with it.”
In other Music Of The Spheres tour news, Martin recently had a bit of an on-stage gaffe, when he fell into a hole in the stage. He played it off, saying, “That’s, uh, not planned. Thank you for catching me, so much, thank you guys. Holy sh*t, that’s going to be a YouTube moment.”
Coldplay occupy an interesting place in the music world. They were once the biggest band in the world, and were afforded the critical acclaim that came with it. They were praised by fans and critics alike, and spent a brief moment in the mid-2000s as hip hop favorites. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin had songs with both Kanye West and JAY-Z, and remains close friends with the latter. Notable though these ties may be, nobody was expecting the British outfit to cover Travis Scott during a recent show.
Chris Martin took song requests during a live performance, and one of the fans in the audience asked him to sing “Goosebumps” by Travis Scott. “Goosebumps” is about ten billion light years away from the sound and lyrical content of most Coldplay music. Especially in the 2020s, when the band has settled in as the softest of rockers. Still, Chris Martin and company gave it a go. Martin ran around the stage and the rest of the band delivered a rousing, guitar-driven rendition of Travis Scott’s 2016 hit with Kendrick Lamar. Coldplay’s “Goosebumps” spread like wildfire on the internet, and Scott decided to weigh in on the cover via social media.
Travis Scott hopped on Twitter to confirm that he was a fan of Coldplay’s reimagining. “This got it,” he wrote, along with an emoji of a goat. Coldplay’s cool points may not be as plentiful as they were back in the day, but to have Scott co-sign them is a pretty big endorsement in 2024. The combination of Scott and Coldplay may sound odd in theory (or even in practice), but this is not the first time they have been musically linked.
Chris Martin told USA Today that his teenage daughters have been instrumental in keeping him plugged in to contemporary music. He credits Moses, 15, and Apple, 17, with exposing him to sounds that help to keep Coldplay fresh and musically adventurous. Travis Scott was one of the artists that Martin cited with regards to influence. “It’s cool when your kids start getting you into things,” he explained. “That’s how I got into Travis Scott or The 1975 or Olivia Rodrigo or whoever it may be.” Scott is currently working on a new album, so maybe fans will get to hear a proper Coldplay collab in the future.
Coldplay are a strange band. They’re enormously popular, and enormously experimental. They have dabbled in lots of different sounds. Yet, the Coldplay-isms creep through, and their music, as least as of late, feels inescapably safe. They have been around for decades at this point. That said, the band really tried to step out its comfort zone with its new single “WE PRAY.” The single has a stellar roster of guest features, including Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna and TINI. It’s truly a global endeavor, and we have to hand it to Coldplay on this one. They make the sounds of all these disparate artists work together.
The instrumental is the first thing we hear. It’s made up a lot of different pieces. There’s a warbling bass line underneath and a massive string section overhead. In the middle, Coldplay singer Chris Martin goes for a breathy, whispery cadence. It’s not the catchiest thing in the world, frankly, but Martin’s vocals kick in during the bombastic chorus. The musical tension present during the verses works much better for the flows of the guests. Little Simz sounds immaculate over the beat, as does Burna Boy. The former steals the show with a sixteen that goes by in the blink of an eye. We didn’t have a collab with all these people on our 2024 bingo board, but we got a good song out of it.

In June, Coldplay kicked off the rollout for their tenth studio album, Moon Music, with the single “Feels Like I’m Falling In Love,” signaling the evolution of their ongoing Music Of The Spheres project. Today, they kept the ball rolling — pun intended — with another new single.
“We Pray” is an operatic, epic-sounding anthem that finds Coldplay and guest artists Little Simz and Burna Boy reflecting on their hopes for the future and fears of the present, manifesting greatness amid adversity. Palestinian-Chilean musician Elyanna and Argentine singer Tini also make vocal appearances, and are spotlighted with individual versions of the track among five different versions released today.
All five versions of “We Pray” are available on the 12″ vinyl single, including an exclusive “Live At Glastonbury” recording which can only be found on the vinyl. Each LP is also made from 100% recycled plastic bottles — nine per record — addressing complaints of wasteful practices in the recording industry with a sustainable alternative.

How To Buy Tickets For Glastonbury Festival 2024
As of right now, tickets for Glastonbury Festival are sold out — and have been for a while. When the tickets went up for sale back in November, music lovers snapped them up within minutes.
“Our thanks to everyone who bought one and we’re sorry to those of you who missed out, on a morning when demand greatly exceeded supply,” the festival informed shortly after, according to The Standard.
However, there is still some hope. Some ticket buyers might not be able to afford it and cancel their tickets when they are set to be charged next month. If this happens, any returned tickets will go back up for sale. Only those who registered before the sale starts will be able to purchase, as Glastonbury is trying to prevent scammers.
Additional information about getting tickets for Glastonbury 2024 can be found on the festival’s website.

Anybody who thought the vinyl resurgence was just a fad was mistaken: The industry has experienced a legitimate revival. As a result, music fans are interested in physical media in ways they may not have if the decades-old medium hasn’t made a comeback. That doesn’t mean everybody is listening to just their parents’ old music, though. That’s part of it, sure, thanks to rereleases that present classic albums in new ways. A vital part of the renewed vinyl wave, though, is new projects being released as records, of which there are plenty.
Whatever you might be into, each month brings a new slew of vinyl releases that has something for everybody. Some stand out above the rest, naturally, so check out some of our favorite vinyl releases of October below.
Linda Ronstadt — A Merry Little Christmas (Reissue)
In the year 2000, Linda Ronstadt carved herself a space in the holiday music pantheon with her A Merry Little Christmas album. Now, ahead of the holiday season, the project is being reissued, with this rerelease being the first time the project is available on vinyl. There are three pressings to suit any festive record collection: metallic silver, evergreen, and poinsettia red.
Mötley Crüe came into their own with their second album, 1983’s Shout At The Devil. To mark the project’s 40th anniversary, there’s a fresh new reissue that has a bunch of goodies, like reproductions of 7-inch singles, tarot cards, and event a collection of demos, compiled and dubbed Shout At The Demos & Rarities.
Tom Waits — Bone Machine and The Black Rider (Reissues)
Tom Waits and longtime collaborator/wife Kathleen Brennan are overseeing a reissue project at the moment, and the latest releases from the bunch are two of Waits’ best ’90s albums: Bone Machine and The Black Rider. Both are available for the first time on vinyl in the US, and come in both black and colored versions. (In case you missed it, Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, and Franks Wild Years were previously reissued in September; Find more information on those in the link below.)
The Blood Brothers — Burn, Piano Island, Burn (20th Anniversary Reissue)
Seattle post-hardcore favorites The Blood Brothers are celebrating 20 years of their classic album Burn, Piano Island, and they’re doing so with a reissue. It’s a fun one, too, as it comes with the album on exclusive colored vinyl (differing depending on where you pick it up), an “Ambulance Vs. Ambulance” 7-inch, and an expanded 32-page booklet featuring new liner notes and photos.
Future — Pluto, DS2, Super Slimey, Monster, Beast Mode, 56 Nights, Purple Reign, Future, and Hndrxx (Reissues)
Future is currently offering the perfect opportunity for fans to get his work into their vinyl collections: He’s bringing nine of his albums and mixtapes to vinyl in a series of drops. Pluto, DS2, and Super Slimey kicked things off on October 20; Monster, Beast Mode, and 56 Nights arrived on October 27; and Purple Reign, Future, and Hndrxx are coming November 3.
Atlantic Records launched a 75 anniversary campaign not long ago and it’s good news for vinyl fans, as the long-running label has a number of classic releases prime for reissues. Among the lot of LPs getting re-pressed is Led Zeppelin’s IV, which comes in a lovely translucent vinyl.
As part of the same campaign as the Led Zep album, Coldplay is reissuing their esteemed 2015 project A Head Full Of Dreams. It’s pressed on 140g colored recycled vinyl and comes with a bonus track, the hit Chainsmokers collaboration “Something Just Like This.
Nirvana’s Nevermind reissue was a big deal in 2021, and now it’s In Utero‘s turn. The beloved Nevermind follow-up is 30 now and it’s getting re-released in a number of formats, including an 8-LP edition that includes a whopping 53 unreleased tracks, including two previously unheard full shows from the In Utero tour.
In 2015, Van Halen unveiled The Collection, which focused on the band’s first six albums. Now, after nearly a decade, The Collection II is here. This five-LP release highlights the band’s second incarnation (Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony) and features four remastered albums (5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, and Balance), as well as some rarities from between 1989 and 2004.
U2 is currently in the spotlight thanks to their concerts at the wild new Las Vegas venue The Sphere, for a residency dubbed U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere. 1993’s Zooropa, meanwhile, is very much a part of the Achtung Baby story, and as Zooropa turns 30, the band has reissued the album in a transparent yellow vinyl pressing.
Bruce Springsteen – Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.
Limited to just 7,500 copies, Springsteen’s debut album gets the audiophile treatment from MoFi, making this pressing of the classic album a must-own for fans of The Boss. For those into the pressing specifics, that means 1/4″ / 15 IPS analog master to DSD 256 to analog console to lathe. Get out your good headphones for this, “Blinded By The Light” has never sounded so good.
