South Korea’s HYBE Expands Its American Music Empire By Buying Quality Control, Home To Lil Baby And Others

Over the past few years, HYBE Corporation has become one of the biggest forces in music. The South Korean company owns Big Hit Music (home to artists like BTS and TOMORROW x TOGETHER), Big Machine Label Group (Tim McGraw, formerly Taylor Swift), and now, thanks to a new deal, Quality Control.

In a deal announced yesterday (February 8), HYBE subsidiary HYBE America bought QC (whose artists include Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, City Girls, and Migos) in a purchase “valued at $320 million in stock and cash,” as Variety reports.

HYBE America CEO Scooter Braun said of the deal:

“I am so proud and honored to have [Quality Control CEO Pierre ‘P’ Thomas and COO Kevin ‘Coach K’ Lee] join [HYBE chairman Bang Si-Hyuk] and I as our partners. QC is one of the most significant independent labels in the world, working with incredible artists who are, and remain to be, the voices of culture. I’ll never forget riding around Atlanta over 20 years ago with Coach discussing our dreams and ambitions and how we said, ‘If they let us in the game, we are never going to give it back.’ Now, all these years later, we are joining forces to make these dreams a reality.”

He also noted, “It’s important to me and my team that P and Coach continue to have the freedom, and now our global resources, to continue to do what they do best; facilitate and nurture great art and culture.”

Yung Miami Revealed We Can Expect A New City Girls Album This ‘Spring, Summer’

It looks like City Girls fans can expect another City Girl summer. Yesterday (January 19), Yung Miami, one half of the rap duo, spoke with former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay for Extra TV at the red carpet premiere of Netflix’s You People.

Lindsay asked Miami whether or not we can expect new music from City Girls in the near future. Miami answered with a simple “Yes, spring, summer.”

While it may be a while till we hear new music from the duo, the ladies are making a big splash in various avenues. Miami has a role in You People, and also stars in the second season of BMF on Starz. She has also garnered a large following with her talk show, Caresha, Please on Revolt TV.

Still, music is the ladies’ first love, and with their upcoming new era, they hope to have a breakthrough moment. In an interview with XXL, Miami revealed she wants for the next album, or at least an upcoming single, to reach No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

“I want us to be successful,” Miami said. “I just want us to go up. I want to have a No. 1 song on the radio. I want to have the No. 1 song on the charts. The No. 1 song everywhere. I want to perform on every awards show. I’m just ready to go up in our career. I feel like it’s time.”

Yung Miami Reveals When We Can Expect New Music From City Girls

Gear up for another City Girls summer because the ladies are working on new music. Yung Miami has been taking over timelines as people continue to fire off posts about her relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs. However, she was flying solo recently at the Los Angeles premiere of You People. During the event, Miami walked the red carpet and took a few moments with several outlets.

Rachel Lindsay was working the carpet for Extra TV, and she asked the rapper when we could expect new music from City Girls. Yung Miami simply answered, “Yes, Spring, Summer.”

While that doesn’t necessarily narrow things down, it has given their fans something to look forward to. City Girls haven’t released a full-length album since dropping City on Lock back in 2020 during the pandemic. However, they’ve continued to share music and add their voices to others’ tracks.

Lindsay wasn’t the only person to catch up with Miami on the red carpet. Baller Alert also spoke with the star and asked about her Revolt series, Caresha Please. Yung Miami has sat down with Diddy, G Herbo, Saweetie, and this week, Trina is up next.

Yet, she was asked who her dream guest would be.

“One person that I would want to give the smoke to is Cardi B,” said the rapper. “I think that we should smoke it up. But my dream interview would be Beyoncé! That’s a queen! That’s an icon!”

Miami then revealed what she would ask the megastar. Initially, she didn’t want to say, but she gave her answer.

“How does it feel to be Beyoncé? How does it feel to be the baddest b*tch on earth?… I really want to know how it feel to be Beyoncé, for real.”

JT Claims She Would Ride For Lil Uzi Vert If He Gets 10 Years Behind Bars

While in a recent interview, JT was asked if she would hold her boyfriend, fellow rapper Lil Uzi Vert, down if he were behind bars for 10 years. And after thinking for a few seconds, the City Girls star later confirmed that she would, adding that it’s “not really that long.”

The “Where The Bag At” rapper sat down virtually with Raymonte, who asked her the hypothetical question.

“Um…10 years. Yeah. 10 years not really that long. I did 15 [months].” she admitted while laughing. JT then joked with Raymonte, “You want some drama.”

JT and Lil Uzi started dating in 2019 and have earned a special place in each other’s lives since.

While interviewing with Yung Miami for PopSugar, the Florida-born musician shared about her relationship last September, “I feel like I found my home with him, my safe space. Once you find your safe space, you know.”

She also admitted that their relationship “made me a much better person.”

In a 2021 interview with W Magazine, Lil Uzi Vert also opened up about his romance with JT, simply saying at the time, “She keeps me calm and balances me. Album-wise, she keeps me not saying too much.”

With the City Girl’s last project being 2019’s City On Lock, the duo are currently gearing up to release their third album. On what their fans can look forward to, JT also told PopSugar, “It’s confident music, getting-ready music, girl-power music, pop-your-sh*t, talk-your-sh*t music, fun music, alter-ego music. It’s for everybody. City Girl sh*t, for real.”

“It’s very fun, very raunchy, very sexy, and very City Girls sh*t,” Yung Miami added. “We poppin’ our sh*t, bringing that energy, at these n*ggas’ necks, and we’re puttin’ on for the bad b*tches.”

JT Kicks Off The New Year By Creating An Instagram Account Dedicated To Health And Wellness

Like the millions of Americans eager to kick off the new year through self-improvement, JT is also looking to get healthier in 2023. The City Girls rapper recently created a “FitCity” Instagram account dedicated to trekking through her new health journey. The name comes from the #FitCity hashtag the Miami rhymer created while she was getting in shape for her April 2022 Coachella performance.

So far, the account has less than 400 followers and only one post, which bears the caption “Nothing is forced. Fun Fitness.”

This isn’t the first time JT, whose real name is Jatavia Shakara Johnson, has opened up to fans about wanting to trim some pounds. Last spring, the “Jobs” rapper shared that she was trying to shed some pounds and had begun working with a nutritionist in preparation for her festival performance. JT would later share photos of some of her healthy meals, complete with fruit and many leafy greens.

When it comes to music, last year, the City Girls released two singles in 2022, “Top Notch” with Fivo Foreign and “Good Love,” featuring Usher. While it’s unclear when JT and her partner in rhyme, Yung Miami, will release a new project, the Miami rap duo have fans on the edge of their seat.

Hitmaka Had Some Thoughts About ‘P*ssy Rap’ And Fans Justifiably Found Some Faults In His Arguments

Remember “Thot Box?” You know, Hitmaka’s 2019 posse cut featuring 2 Chainz, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Meek Mill, Tyga, and YBN Nahmir? No? Well, you almost certainly remember that the remix — which did ridiculously better than the original — featured a who’s-who of up-and-coming female rappers including Chinese Kitty, DreamDoll, Dreezy, Latto (pre-name change), and Young MA. There it is up top.

Well, the guy responsible for it, Hitmaka (formerly known as Young Berg, the walking lick), had some thoughts about female rappers and their X-rated subject matter, and unfortunately for him, he decided to share those thoughts on Twitter. Apparently, he missed how it went for the last handful of guys to offer their two cents on this topic, including Jermaine Dupri.

“Can’t wait to work with a pretty female rapper that’s strictly about bars to even the playing field,” he wrote. “Pussy rap was cool when it had shock value & was rare. Now it’s like every girl taking it there. It’s sum who aren’t but they need a hit producer 4 impact.”

It didn’t take long for him to come under fire from fans who pointed out the sexism inherent in this sentiment. Also, it’s like… Wrong. Plainly. Clearly. Obviously. Women have addressed this repeatedly in the last few years. Cardi B called it out. Megan Thee Stallion called it out. City Girls called it out. Latto called it out THIS WEEK. Plus, as Noname rightfully pointed out last year, women are better at rapping about sex than men, anyway. Case in point: “Thot Box” and its much more successful remix.

Women also rightfully brought up Berg’s past controversial colorist comments and accusations against him for sexual assault.

Moral of the story: Stay out of women’s business, gentlemen. It will not go well for you.

JT Says Nobody Can Compare To Beyoncé: “Not A Soul”

2022 was another busy year for the City Girls. Although they didn’t drop a full-length project, they still managed to stay relevant.

Dropping two successful singles, “Top Notch” with Fivio Foreign and “Good Love” with Usher, the rap duo made it clear that hey aren’t going anywhere.

In August, they also made an appearance on DJ Khaled’s “BILLS PAID” alongside Latto. The song served as a single to the record producer’s thirteenth studio album, GOD DID.

One artist who had a monstrous year yet again was none other than Beyoncé. Dropping her dance-infused album, RENAISSANCE in July, the Houston native was effective in continuing her streak as one of the most dominant artists of the 2000s.

As a result, she appeared all over the Billboard charts once again. Shortly following its release, all 16 tracks from the album landed on the Hot 100. One half of the City Girls, JT, took to her Twitter account yesterday (December 13) to share her thoughts on the “Crazy In Love” singer’s greatness.

The tweet came in response to a post asking the Twitter-verse who, out of all the new singers, could pull off Beyoncé’s performance for her 2004 hit, “Check On It.” The 30-year-old was to-the-point with her response. “Not a soul, next,” she wrote.

Of course, the fellow performers are no strangers to one another. Just last year, the pair shared a bonding moment together at a Fourth of July party reportedly thrown by Michael Rubin.

While taking to Twitter the following day to detail a conversation between the two, JT couldn’t contain her excitement.

“I love Beyoncé if I didn’t feel like I made it no other day tonight I did! She told me I was beautiful & she’s proud & to keep going! God look At my life….I came from nothing at all,” she wrote.

The “Act Up” rapper was certainly appreciative of the kind words.

What do you think? Do any of the new pop singers compare to Beyoncé in your mind? Sound off in the comments below.
