Since Grousbeck’s group, Boston Basketball Partners, took over, the Celtics have consistently been among the league’s best teams. They have won two titles and most recently defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals last month.

Jaylen Brown (21), Tatum (18), and Derrick White (18) complemented Holiday’s dominant display, making Boston the sixth team since 2000 to achieve this scoring feat in a Finals game.

Kristaps Porzingis contributed 12 points and a game-high 26.1 net rating, while Payton Pritchard (16.7 net rating) nailed a crucial 37-footer at the buzzer, giving the Celtics a nine-point lead entering the fourth quarter.

Doncic, who was downgraded from ‘probable’ to ‘questionable’ due to multiple injuries, managed to play and deliver his seventh triple-double (32 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, 4 steals, 4 3-pointers) of the 2024 Playoffs. This performance ties him with Wilt Chamberlain for the second-most triple-doubles in a single postseason, behind Nikola Jokic’s 10.

Motivated by the Celtics’ 2022 Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors, Jaylen Brown delivered a standout two-way performance in Game 1. Brown tallied 22 points, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks, joining Tim Duncan and Scottie Pippen as the only players since 1973-74 to record such stats in a Finals Game 1. His relentless drives, timely three-pointers, and a game-high 11 free throw attempts kept the Dallas defense under constant pressure.

Despite the Mavericks’ loss, Luka Doncic made an impressive Finals debut, scoring a game-high 30 points and grabbing ten rebounds, becoming the first player to post a 30-point double-double in their Finals debut since Tim Duncan in 1999.

Just hours after the world lost basketball and broadcasting legend Bill Walton, the Boston Celtics completed their first Eastern Conference Finals sweep since 1986, defeating the Indiana Pacers 105-102. The win moves the Celtics four victories away from securing their 18th title in franchise history.

Bill Walton, the Sixth Man of the Year on that 1986 Celtics team, was remembered fondly as the team advanced. On this historic, emotional day for one of the NBA’s original teams, Jaylen Brown was named Eastern Conference Finals MVP, earning the Larry Bird Trophy.

Boston trailed 98-90 with 5:56 to play after a pair of buckets by former Celtic Aaron Nesmith. From that moment until the final buzzer, the Celtics executed with poise and determination, closing the game on a 15-4 run. Jayson Tatum’s five points and Brown’s two-way brilliance led the charge.

With the score tied at 102, Brown blocked Andrew Nembhard’s layup attempt. On the other end, Brown drove into the lane, collapsing the defense, and found Derrick White for an open corner three-pointer, putting Boston ahead for good.
