Diddy is now in court after months of accusations, allegations, and lawsuits, many of them which have remained speculative and accusatory at press time. However, one piece of evidence that suggests he may have a pattern of misbehavior is a clip of him assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie in a hotel room back in 2016. Moreover, during a New York court hearing on Wednesday (September 18) to appeal for his bond again (unsuccessfully), Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson revealed texts that the Bad Boy mogul and Cassie allegedly sent to each other in the aftermath of this hotel incident years ago.

“Call me, the cops are here. I got six kids. Yo, please call, I am surrounded. You gonna abandon me all alone,” Diddy allegedly wrote to Cassie. “The defendant knew he had done something that could elicit police response,” Johnson interpreted. “When you get f***ed up, you knock me around. I’m not a rag doll. I’m someone’s child,” Cassie allegedly told her partner after his abuse of her. Elsewhere concerning this assault, these court hearings also present two wildly different clams about what actually happened.

Diddy’s Alleged Text To Cassie

First, Cassie’s side of the story. According to the prosecution, a male sex worker was allegedly present in her and Diddy’s hotel room at the time of the assault and Cassie allegedly tried to escape a “freak-off” party. However, Sean Combs’ attorney Marc Agnifilo alleges that Cassie discovered that Combs was cheating on her with another woman. Allegedly, she went through Diddy’s phone, threw it at his head, took his clothes, and walked out. Obviously, we don’t know the truth of what really happened here eight years ago. We’ll see what other proof emerges surrounding it.

Meanwhile, Diddy did score at least one small legal victory amid this intense and massive arrest. A judge dismissed a sexual assault case that had resulted in a $100 million judgement for the alleged victim. Apparently, Sean Combs is convinced that the sudden release of that clip is part of an agenda against him, and that it doesn’t tell the full story of what really went down that day. Of course, take this information with a grain of salt, as this is an unconfirmed claim that isn’t reflected in his apology video.

Raven-Symoné gave her opinion on Diddy’s apology, saying, “There’s always been rumors in the industry about his shenanigans, and it’s always been kind of ‘hush-hush,’ put underneath the rug, and now things and windows are starting to open and people are starting to see in.” She continued, “His apology video… I think he’s distraught because he knows that his money is about to deplete. Several hours ago, rapper and music mogul Diddy issued a formal apology to Cassie for his irreversible actions. The latter was an alleged brutal assault with the 2016 footage being obtained by CNN on Friday, May 17. It quickly went viral, as it displayed some truly disturbing imagery. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office responded to the video moments later with some bad news. Because of the time of the assault and the new statute of limitations being passed, they cannot do anything about it. Diddy is in hotter waters than ever on the Internet thanks to an alleged video of him supposedly assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway. Moreover, this clip is quite the disturbing one, and spread virally online due to the scandalous nature of his numerous sexual assault and sex trafficking allegations, whose claims also include more abhorrent behavior. However, it seems like this might not result in the immediate legal action that some users probably expected. Furthermore, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office issued a statement on Friday (May 17) on the matter, explaining the situation.

“We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles,” the L.A. D.A.’s Office remarked of Diddy. “We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted. As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr. Combs, but we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to our office for support from our Bureau of Victims Services.”

As such, it seems like -– at least, in this legal capacity -– there will be no immediate repercussion or pressed charges against Diddy. But that’s an unclear detail, and it failed to change any sort of indignant reception or reaction to this alleged footage. Folks are going quite wild over it online, and for good reason given its intensity.

Meanwhile, there are other celebrities and pop culture figures that chimed into the debacle to either defend Cassie or protect Diddy. The video, dated March 5, 2016, and verified by CNN, shows Ventura leaving a hotel room and walking toward the elevators. Combs, dressed in a towel, is seen running after her down the hallway. He grabs her by the back of the neck and throws her to the floor. Despite holding his towel with one hand, he kicks Ventura as she lies on the ground. Combs then picks up a purse and suitcase from the floor near the elevators, turns around, and kicks Ventura again.

After this, he briefly drags her by her sweatshirt before walking away. Ventura is seen slowly getting up, gathering her belongings, and picking up a phone on the hallway wall. Combs returns, appears to shove her, and then sits down, forcefully throwing an object at her. He walks away again but turns back as an elevator door opens and someone steps out. Ventura, who reached an undisclosed settlement with Combs, has declined to comment on the newly released footage. Her attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, stated that the video further confirms the disturbing and predatory behavior of Combs and praised Ventura for her courage in bringing these actions to light. Combs and Ventura, a model and singer known for her hit song “Me & U,” had an on-and-off relationship from 2007 to 2018. They were photographed together at the Los Angeles premiere of A Perfect Match on March 7, 2016. Ventura’s complaint alleges that the altercation captured in the footage took place around March 2016. The complaint detailed that Combs became “extremely intoxicated” and punched her, giving her a black eye.

After Combs fell asleep, Ventura tried to leave the hotel room but was followed by Combs into the hallway.
