Brandon Miller Subject Of Wrongful Death Suit Over Alabama Shooting Death

Hornets rookie Brandon Miller has been named in a wrongful death suit filed by the family of a woman killed in Tuscaloosa earlier this year. The family of Jonae Harris named Miller along with Darius Miles and Michael Davis. The latter two are facing capital murder charges for Harris’ death. Miller was not criminally charged, though was accused of bringing Miles’ gun to him when asked before the shooting.

That allegation against Miller is the reason behind his inclusion in the lawsuit. Miles, Davis and Miller “knew or should have known that bringing a dangerous weapon to a dispute and discharging said weapon would likely result in harm,” the lawsuit alleges. Additionally, the complaint states that “as a direct or proximate consequence of the negligence or wantonness of each of the defendants,” Harris suffered fatal injuries. Harris’ family is seeking testimony from all three men.

Stephen A. Smith Defends ESPN Colleague Asking About Brandon Miller At Draft

Elsewhere, Stephen A. Smith spoke out about the Brandon Miller case in his own way earlier this year. Smith defended his ESPN colleague Malika Andrews after she faced criticism for asking whether Miller’s involvement in the case could affect his draft position. “She’s getting crucified during the Draft because… Brandon Miller…bringing up somebody’s past. She had an obligation to ask those questions. She did her job. If she doesn’t do her job, she’s off the air.” Stephen A. Smith said in an August podcast appearance.

The incident highlighted how fickle sports fans can be. People on social media called Andrews a bitch and a roach and said that she was ruining “Miller’s special night”. However, she was literally doing her job. “How does this factor in, if at all, into how teams are evaluating him?” is a great way to ask this question. Why? Because it includes a clause to allow someone to literally respond, “I think there will be minimal impact on his evaluation.” Furthermore, Miller still went #2 overall in the draft. Clearly, this was a non-issue for teams. It just seems that people are mad that Andrews dared to ask the tough questions.

While it had mostly died down by the time of the draft, Brandon Miller’s one-and-done college career was marred by controversy. The Alabama freshman was at least tangentially involved with the shooting of a young woman in Tuscaloosa earlier this year. While the extent of his involvement was debated, he was considered a material witness. Furthermore, he had allegedly brought the killer’s gun to him when asked. Controversially, Miller missed almost no time as head coach Nate Oats firmly stood behind his star player.

Jump forward to the draft and ESPN‘s Malika Andrews got a lot of heat for bringing up Miller’s link to the case on draft night. Andrews didn’t say anything especially heinous. Namely, she asked how his link to the case, which remains open, could affect how teams view the player. “How does this factor in, if at all, into how teams are evaluating him?” Andrews asked on the network’s broadcast. Now one of her ESPN colleagues has stepped up to defend (yes, two months after the draft).

THAT’S what now makes me wonder about Brandon Miller.” Predictable, but still very funny.

Ultimately, this whole saga of Skip hating on LeBron has been interesting to watch over the years. LeBron has yet to acknowledge Bayless, and he likely never will. Alabama freshman Brandon Miller is expected to hear his name called second or third overall during the 2023 NBA Draft on June 22. The SEC Freshman of the Year and Second-Team All-American will likely go to the Hornets, Blazers, or the team that trades up into one of those spots. However, his landing spot will ultimately be decided by whether teams prefer him or G-League standout Scoot Henderson. Furthermore, both picks are still reportedly up for grabs a little over 24 hours before the draft.

Miller, aside from his involvement in the shooting death of a woman in Tuscaloosa, had a fantastic one-and-done college year. As mentioned, he was showered with awards come season’s end. Additionally, he helped the Alabama Crimson Tide secure their first-ever one-seed in the NCAA tournament. However, the team was upset in the Sweet Sixteen by eventual runners-up San Diego State. He averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game during his time with the Crimson Tide.

However, Miller is now making headlines for something a little more bizarre. During his pre-draft press availability on June 21, Miller was asked whether Jordan or LeBron was the GOAT. Furthermore, he was asked if he felt the GOAT debate was “overdone.” Miller’s answer was unique, to say the least. “No, because I actually don’t think LeBron is the GOAT of basketball,” Miller said. “My GOAT of basketball is Paul George. I grew up watching him, so, it was never just LeBron.”

It may be the first time that George, an eight-time all-star, has ever been named the GOAT of basketball. Despite this, it’s clear that Miller took this question more personally, rather than an objective ranking of basketball’s best-ever players. Brandon Miller has decided to forgo the rest of his college eligibility and enter the NBA Draft. The standout Alabama freshman will be one of the top picks in this year’s draft. Brandon Miller is currently one of the best players in college basketball. However, he is mostly being talked about for all of the wrong reasons. This is due to the murder case involving Jamea Harris. Harris was a 23-year-old mother who was shot and killed close to the Alabama campus. Brandon Miller Drops 41 Points After Being Implicated In Murder Case

Brandon Miller is currently being accused of something serious right now. For those who don’t know who Miller is, he is the star player for the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team. Overall, Alabama is ranked second in the nation, and Miller is their leading scorer. However, the team has been embroiled in controversy. This is because one of their other players, Darius Miles, was charged with capital murder. According to reports, he allegedly supplied a gun to Michael Lynn Davis, who shot and killed Jamea Harris. This all happened close to the Alabama campus.

Although Alabama has expelled Miles, they are still dealing with the fallout from the case. Earlier this week, we reported that a witness implicated Miller in the shooting. According to detective Branden Culpepper, Miller allegedly gave the gun to Miles, who then gave it to Davis. Alabama’s Brandon Miller Implicated In Darius Miles Murder Case

The University of Alabama’s basketball team is arguably the best in the entire nation. With a 23-4 record and currently ranked No. 2 in the AP poll, the Crimson Tide have rolled all year. However, this has not come without it’s share of controversy. In January, one of their players Darius Miles was charged with capital murder. Miles allegedly contributed to an incident that led to the death of a young woman named Jamea Harris. Reportedly, he provided the gun used to slay her on Univeristy Blvd. near the Alabama campus.

“At this time, it appears that the only motive was a minor altercation that these individuals had with the victim as they were out on the Strip,” Tuscaloosa Police Capt. Jack Kennedy said in a news conference at the time. Supposedly, the man who allegedly shot the gun, Michael Lynn Davis, did so because Jamea Harris rejected him romantically. Although Miles did not fire the weapon, he allegedly provided the gun and was at the scene of the crime. In December, an ankle injury caused Miles to be ruled out for the remainder of the season. Even though he was not active at the time, though, the school expelled him for his involvement with this crime.

On Tuesday (Feb. 21) at a hearing for the case, Tuscaloosa detective Branden Culpepper revealed another Alabama player involved with the crime. Culpepper testified that star forward Brandon Miller supplied the gun for Miles to give to Davis. Miller is currently the team’s leading scorer with 18.7 points per game as a freshman. Projected to be a high pick in this year’s NBA draft, Brandon Miller is only a freshman. Police said that Miles had texted Miller asking him to bring the weapon to where he was near campus, and Miller obliged. However, Tuscaloosa D.A. Paula Whitley added that “there’s nothing we could charge (Miller) with.”

When questions arose regarding Miller’s alleged involvement with the murder, Alabama’s head coach Nate Oats said Tuesday that he was aware of the situation. “We knew about that,” he said. “Can’t control everything anybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen… Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time.” While this statement appears to show a lack of sympathy from Oats, he also said that the “whole situation is sad” and that Bama was and is “fully cooperating with law enforcement the entire time.”
