Bobby Shmurda Announces His First Post-Prison EP ‘Bodboy’ For Next Month

Bobby Shmurda has been living life to the fullest for the last year and a half since being released from prison. Along with the fun, he’s been getting his business in order as he officially parted ways with Epic Records. As both the fans and the “Hot N****” artist look toward the future, there have been questions as to when he will fully dive back into the music scene. In an official press release, Shmurda provided his answer with the announcement that his first post-prison EP Bodboy will release on August 5.

The project’s announcement comes along with the reveal of the 27-year-old’s new label GS9 Records, operating in partnership with ONErpm. The Brooklyn rapper is taking full control over his future, and Bodboy could be the start of his music career’s second wind after jail derailed his white hot momentum. In the time since Bobby left Epic he has released tracks such as “Getting Em Back,” “They Don’t Know,” “Cartier Lens,” “No Time For Sleep,” and “Shmoney” featuring Quavo and Rowdy Rebel in addition to appearing on Funk Flex’s “Hitta.”

With the announcements for GS9 Records and Bodboy comes official confirmation that last week’s “Hoochie Daddy,” a play on Uncle Luke’s “Hoochie Mama,” is the EP’s lead single. The EP is nine songs total and will feature Fat Tony and Shmurda’s longtime collaborator Rowdy Rebel.

According to a recent report from ABC 7 NY, GS9 member and Bobby Shmurda’s pal Fetty Luciano was arrested on attempted murder charges following a triple shooting in Long Island earlier this month.

26-year-old Fetty Luciano, whose real name is Remy Marshall, turned himself in at the Glen Cove Police Department yesterday (July 21) after he was linked to a triple shooting at a mansion pool party in Long Island. Marshall was charged with attempted murder and illegal weapons possession. He’s scheduled to be arraigned later today (July 22).

According to the report, the incident took place at Glen Cove’s The Mansion, an event venue that doubles as a hotel with 187 guest rooms and suites. About 200 people were in attendance on July 10 when a fight broke out between two people before gunshots were heard coming from the front entrance of the venue.

The victims were treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released from the hospital.

“It’s a bit of a shock, yeah, it’s a surprise,” Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck said. “This is just a beautiful venue. It’s used for high school reunions, weddings, fundraisers, for events, and things like this don’t happen here.”

Fetty, a member of Bobby Shmurda’s GS9 collective, released his debut album Story to Tell via Def Jam in 2018, with features from Gunna, Landstrip Chip and Shmurda. He also appeared on the deluxe version of Pop Smoke’s posthumous album Faith in 2021, featuring on the song “Double It.”

Bobby Shmurda Accepts The ‘Hoochie Daddy’ Title On His Quick-Paced New Single

Bobby Shmurda has been highly active with music releases recently, but it wasn’t always like that since the rapper was released from prison at the beginning of 2021. His return to music wasn’t as productive or as big as he would’ve liked and it led to him requesting and gaining his release from his former label, Epic Records. Since then, Bobby has found his groove as an independent act and it continues with the release of “Hoochie Daddy.” The track is an energetic release that spotlights Bobby’s fun spirit, one that’s been on full display thanks to videos and posts he’s shared on social media.

“Hoochie Daddy” follows recent singles that Bobby has shared over the past months which include “Get ‘Em Back,” “They Don’t Know,” and “Shmoney.” The new single also comes after Bobby shared some details about his upcoming album, Ready To Live, during an interview with HotNewHipHop. He confirmed that the project will include features from DaBaby, Rich the Kid, Meek Mill, Rowdy Rebel, 42 Dugg, Key Glock, and more. He also confirmed that the long-awaited project will arrive at some point next month.

Prior to dropping his new single, Bobby had a surprise run-in with Eminem which led to some thinking that there could be a new collaboration on the way.

You can listen to “Hoochie Daddy” in the video above.

If 50 Cent is going to do one thing, its give somebody a shot. In May, it was announced that Mo’nique would be joining season 2 of BMF as Goldie. This happened after she came out and revealed the reason why she was blackballed by the industry following her Best Supporting Actress win for Precious at the Academy Awards.

Now it looks like Bobby Shmurda might be joining the Power Universe. In a new interview with HotNewHipHop, Shmurda said that he’s been in talks with 50 about joining the franchise.

“Me and 50 were on a two-hour call like two weeks ago,” Bobby said. “Some talent agents I was talking to, they help 50 with Power and STARZ and all that other sh*t. So you know he wants me to act, and they want me to act, so we just talking about a couple of sh*t right now.”

He added, “He got like 25 shows. You know, he called me like, ‘N*gga, you know I got like 25 shows. You ready to do 26 and 27?’ Like, stop playing, n*gga! You know I want this shmoney, n*gga!”

“Yo, I’m gonna call that n*gga as soon as we get off this interview. Yo 50, they want me in Power!” he said.

Shmurda would join a list of rappers that have made appearances in the Power Universe or are regulars on a series. Method Man, Redman, Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, and recently Freddie Gibbs have all made appearances or are regulars in a Power series.

Bobby Shmurda Says Rappers Should Be “Mindful” Of Their Lyrics Even After The Passing Of The “Rap Music On Trial” Bill

bobby shmurda 1

Bobby Shmurda knows firsthand how prosecutors will use lyrics against a hip-hop artist in court, and he wants other rappers to be mindful of their lyrics, even with the passing of the “Rap Music On Trial” bill.

In a new interview with HotNewHipHop Shmurda told rappers they should be cautious of what they say on a track even with the new bill passing in New York that limits prosecutors’ ability to use rap lyrics against the defendant. Despite the bill passing, Shmurda is apprehensive that it will actually stop prosecutors from using lyrics against artists.

“Kay Flock, and a lot of rappers are getting locked up right now. So again, they get accused. They getting accused of these things. Accused! Accusations, you know what I’m saying? Theories. Gotta make sure you keep that word, key word,” he said.

“Now listen, just because they passed the f*cking law guys, do not go on the f*cking record talking about you just shot Johnny in his face. Please guys, please guys. Do not go saying some dumb sh*t. But you can express yourself. Express stories better. But don’t do not do anything like, ‘I just shot Johnny in his face.’ Like, what the f*ck, bro? Be mindful still, I feel. Still, be mindful.”

During an interview with TMZ in May, Shmurda told the outlet that he was “grateful” for the bills passing, saying “When they say rap can be used against you, it limits your art because sometimes people just wanna be free.” He then asked when Georgia would implement a similar law, as this was around the same time Young Thug, Gunna, and other YSL members were arrested on R.I.C.O charges and having lyrics used against them.

Bobby Shmurda Says He Received Oral Sex And Smoked Weed While In Prison

Bobby Shmurda is free. Not only from prison, but free to make and release music as an independent artist. In an interview with Variety, the “Hot Boy” rapper discussed making new music, his upcoming EP, and his time in prison. Specifically, he recalled partaking in sexual activities during prison visits.

“I got oral sex, didn’t get sex sex,” Shmurda said. “I’m too big to be doing all that other sh*t, ya understand?”

When asked how the guards and prison staff would react to these acts, Shmurda said, “Some of them wouldn’t care, they’d be like [shrugs]. Some would be like [in deep voice], “Ackquille Pollard! Chill, hold it down, son! What the f*ck you doing?! This girl right here, both of y’all get the f*ck out!”

On top of that, Shmurda revealed that he smoked weed behind bars, saying, “I ain’t got nothing else to do.”

When Shmurda released “Hot Boy” in 2014, its accompanying music video popularized the “Shmoney dance,” which went viral on platforms like YouTube and the now-defunct Vine. While in jail, Shmurda made sure to never lose his dancing groove.

“I made killers dance,” Shmurda said. “I make everybody dance with everybody,” while adding that he found inspiration in a multitude of genres.

“I’ll play all types of music: Spanish music, pop music, Jamaican music,” he said. “I do everything but country and rock. I can’t really get into country and rock too much. Pop, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, I like everything.”
