50 Cent Said The Success Of ‘Power’ Made Him Fear The Idea Of Being A ‘One-Hit Wonder,’ But Motivated Him To Create More

50 Cent is becoming as prolific in television as he is in music. With shows like Power, For Life, and Black Mafia Family under his belt, it feels safe to say that 50 is a household name.

While his focus seems to be more on TV than in music these days, his resume in both realms has quite a few hits.

50’s most successful television endeavor is probably the Power franchise, though, in an interview with Brian J. Roberts, he admitted that the acclaim of Power worried him at first. He feared that he wouldn’t be able to replicate the success elsewhere.

“Producing a hit is not enough for me,” said 50. “When I got one, I’m cringing [sic] to get the next one. While Power’s working by itself, I go do The Oath on Sony Crackle, right, just to have something else.”

The Oath lasted for two seasons, however, 50’s other projects, like Black Mafia Family have proven to have more longevity. 50’s fear of not having an equally successful franchise in comparison to power is what’s kept him motivated to produce more television over the years.

“It’s just ’cause I needed something else there — if not, you a one-hit wonder,” he said. “I’m scared of that sh*t.”

This September, 50 will star in Expend4bles as a new member of the group named Easy Day.

The True Story Behind “BMF”

The Black Mafia Family, or BMF, was once one of the most notorious and powerful criminal organizations. Founded in Detroit in the early 1990s by brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, BMF soon became a formidable force in all things nefarious. We’ve seen this story dramatically played out in 50 Cent’s BMF drama television series, but we’re revisiting the real-life story of a criminal organization that terrorized a city—and beyond.

Big Meech and Southwest T were born and raised in Motor City and quickly established themselves as prominent underworld figures. They initially made their mark as drug dealers. Then, they soon expanded their operations to include a wide range of criminal enterprises. These reportedly included money laundering, extortion, and murder. BMF has created characters inspired by the Flenorys and their alleged associates, but some say it doesn’t do justice to what was really going on in the streets of Detroit.

According to the authorities, BMF’s drug trafficking operation was vast and sophisticated. The organization moved large quantities of narcotics throughout the United States from one coast to the other. The Flenory brothers built a vast network of suppliers, distributors, and customers, and they used their wealth and influence to expand their reach even further.

BMF & Its Impact On Hip-Hop

In addition to its criminal activities, the BMF significantly impacted the hip-hop community. The Flenory brothers were well known for their love of hip-hop music, and they used their wealth to cultivate close relationships with many of the genre’s biggest stars. They threw lavish parties and events that attracted the most prominent names and used their connections to promote their music and business ventures. BMF Entertainment surfaced, and the Flenorys cemented themselves as movers and shakers in music. Bleu Da Vinci‘s World Is BMF even earned itself a Source Award nomination in 2005. In 2008, Bleu was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The Law Closes In

BMF’s rise to power would prove to be short-lived. In 2005, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) launched a major investigation into the organization. In 2006, Big Meech and Southwest T were arrested and charged with several federal crimes, including drug trafficking, money laundering, and racketeering. The brothers were eventually convicted and sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.

In 2020, Terry was granted a compassionate release due to health concerns over the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Big Meech requested the same but was denied while Terry was ordered to home confinement. The BMF series’s attention has helped push the brothers’ story to audiences that once had no idea who they were. Big Meech hopes fame will aid him in his quest for freedom.

Big Meech Remains Hopeful

Since his incarceration, several petitions and campaigns have called for Big Meech’s release or a reduction in his sentence. Many high-profile individuals, including members of the hip-hop community, have supported these pleas. They argue that Big Meech has served a significant portion of his sentence and been a model prisoner. However, these petitions have not changed Big Meech’s sentence, and he remains in federal custody.

Meanwhile, the former crime giant’s son has become a television star. Lil Meech portrays his father on BMF, and critics have widely praised his talents. He also has worked on a Rap career, and it’s rumored that the younger Meech has even sparked a romance with Summer Walker.

Lil Meech Responds To Hilarious Rumors Of Smelling “Musty”

Lil Meech continues to dominate the world of acting, thanks to his impressive portrayal of his father in the series based on the Black Mafia Family. Despite his lack of experience in acting, his performance on BMF had fans awaiting his next move with each episode. Off the screen, Meech continues to deal with the perils of fame, specifically unsubstantiated claims by folks on the Internet, whether it has to do with baring his manhood on screen or smelling “musty.” However, even with his star status, he still has time to put the rumors to rest.

Last year, a woman hopped on the Internet after meeting the BMF star, who she suggested had terrible hygiene. “Lil Meech was very musty on Friday night,” the woman said in a TikTok video. “He had went to six places and he smelled like a pound of onions. I just want to know what possessed him to put that long-sleeve shirt and to be so musty like that… That’s my dawg but he was musty… We talkin’ ‘bout he been musty for the past week.” The comments immediately went viral.

Lil Meech Denies Being Musty

Shortly after the woman posted the video, various members attached to BMF responded to the rumors. Da’Vinchi, who plays Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, slammed the rumors. “I don’t know where this is coming from, but Meech is a clean dude. I work with this guy, you know, we work real close together, and it’s not something I’m aware of,” he said. Meanwhile, 50 Cent clowned Meech after the woman said he smelled like onions. Lil Meech then commented on the post, claiming she was “lying straight thru her teeth.”

Although Meech appeared to be offended by the suggestion that he stinks, it seems as though he isn’t entirely bad at the woman’s TikTok. The actor recently sat down with Oracle Media who asked him about the funniest thing he’s heard about himself on Instagram. The BMF actor simply said, “I stink,” with a grin on his face as he reflected on the TikToker’s comments. Evidently, he holds no hard feelings and can laugh about the entire situation. Check out Meech’s comments above.

Gucci Mane Couldn’t Be In BMF Because He Was A Known Robber

A new interview with BMF artist Bleu Davinci revealed that Gucci Mane wasn’t brought into the collective due to his criminal past. Moreover, Cam Capone News recently interviewed Davinci, who’s Black Mafia Family’s sole label artist. Furthermore, Capone asked him how they met the Atlanta rapper in the first place. In his explanation, Davinci went over the difference between their enterprise and the multiple lanes that Gucci strode. While his story was candid and didn’t necessarily antagonize the “Lemonade” star, many brought snitch allegations forth in the comments.

“Gucci’s a street n***a, he just be outside all the time and s**t, you feel me?” he began. “Gucci was like a part-time jackboy, part-time dope dealer, part-time rapper, Gucci was a slash man. I knew Gucci before I knew Jeezy, know what I’m saying? So Gucci used to always be in the clubs and s**t. Gucci already be in the club. On the wall, looking at n***as with a drink and s**t with his hat down and s**t like that, trying to get him a victim. You feel me? You know, he was cool. Meech knew him, he was cool.

“He even used to try to get down with the mob,” Bleu continued. “But Meech was telling n***as like, ‘Nah, man that n***a be out there robbing n***as and s**t, you feel me? We can’t handle n***as that’s known robbers getting down with the s**t.’ It wasn’t just that he was no robber, but n***as know that he gon’ get down on a n***a, you feel me? We just kind of wasn’t doing that at the time. He always been friendly, you know what I’m saying? Always been the homie. So when they made “So Icy,” we was promoting Jeezy.”

Meanwhile, many in the comments called out snitch behavior for mentioning Gucci’s crimes. “Is this snitching ?” one commenter asked. “Cause no one knew Gucci was a known robber.” However, others opted to look at the bright side. “Even tho he a rat it’s good to hear both sides of story,” one user expressed. “The locket say ‘Elliante’ on it,” he added, referring to the chain’s designer. “You know what I’m saying? His name, his signature, it got the three big boogers on each side. So, ain’t no regular Cuban, you know? You might find a regular Cuban for 50 or for 100, maybe, but this 200 just for a kilo.”

“What’s the pendant cost then?” the interviewer asks. “Three, just for the pendant,” Meech clarified.

“This some s**t like, you gotta give my daddy,” the rapper expressed. “Like when he come home, I’ll keep this forever, you know? You can’t even go no bigger than this, you know? You don’t see no silver or gold, you see straight water.”

50 Cent Confirms Three New Spinoff Shows From “Black Mafia Family”

It’s a big week for TV fans and G-Unit riders alike. 50 Cent recently announced that his Starz series Black Mafia Family (or BMF) will receive three new spinoff series. Moreove, this comes hot off of another TV announcement from the hip-hop and media mogul. Recently, he spoke to Big Boy about upcoming music in an interview and said he’s developing an 8 Mile show.

However, back to his Starz efforts, 50 made the announcement during the Season 2 premiere of BMF at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood the night of Thursday, January 5th. According to Variety, fans can expect at least three new shows to expand the BMF universe.

“They got some really, really smart executives coming in to help rebuild Starz in the right way. And it’s exciting for me,” Fif stated. “You’ll get a chance to see three spinoff shows from ‘BMF.’ It’s ‘BMF’ immortal.”

Meanwhile, this followed the announcement that 50’s contract with Starz ended. Furthermore, the TV network has long worked with the Queens icon, from BMF to multiple series in his Power universe. Last October, the “In Da Club” MC inked a deal with media company Luisd Media for a three-project partnership.

“I am excited by the kind of stories we’re going to be bringing to life together, and can’t wait for the first project to reach Peacock next year,” he expressed. “G-Unit Film & Television continues to go from strength-to-strength, and this partnership with Lusid is another great collaboration for the team.”

However, don’t let 50’s TV success distract you from the fact he’s still a high-in-demand rapper, and that fans are waiting on new music from him this year. In an interview with Big Boy, he said that Eminem turned down an $8 million offer to perform at the World Cup. According to Fif, he was also a part of that deal, but he’s more excited about releasing a new album with the help of Slim Shady and Dr. Dre.

Eminem Has Locked Down One Of His First Acting Roles Since ‘8 Mile,’ In 50 Cent’s ‘Black Mafia Family’

It’s been nearly two decades since Eminem made his film debut in the box office hit 8 Mile, and he’s now ready to work on another acting project. The rapper has now accepted one of his first acting roles since 8 Mile, and it’s in 50 Cent‘s upcoming Starz TV show Black Mafia Family.

50 confirmed the news of Em’s role on Instagram. The rapper is set to portray the famed FBI informant White Boy Rick, aka Richard Wershe Jr., who was convicted of drug charges and sentenced to life in prison at just 17 years old. Wershe was officially released in 2020, and the 2018 eponymous film starring Matthew McConaughey told his story.

Speaking about Em’s involvement in the upcoming series, 50 wrote: “Oh yeah i’m bringing the big dogs out, I couldn’t do a show based in Detroit without incorporating the legend @eminem. Got him to play white Boy Rick in BMF, this sh*t is out of here.”

Eminem has just a few acting credits on his IMDb page since 8 Mile (aside from music videos): He’s been on Crank Yankers, Funny People, Entourage, and The Interview.

Em isn’t the only rapper 50 Cent is enlisting the help of for his TV series. Last year, the rapper implored Rick Ross to use his track 2010 “BMF” on the show, which would be a fitting addition seeing as the title is already the same. Ross accepted, but on one bizarre condition: 50 Cent had to agree to promote Wingstop on his Instagram page. Ross owns a number of Wingstop storefronts, so he said he’ll agree to clear the track for 50’s Starz show, but first wants to “profit off of him.”
