Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, Buffalo Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard, and Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell were named the AFC Players of the Week for Week 11, recognizing their exceptional performances.
Offense: Bo Nix, Denver Broncos Nix showcased his rookie prowess in the Broncos’ commanding 38-6 victory over Atlanta, completing 28 of 33 passes (84.8%) for 307 yards and four touchdowns, earning a 145.0 passer rating. He became just the second rookie in NFL history to achieve 300+ passing yards, four touchdowns, and a rating above 140 in a single game. This is Nix’s first Player of the Week honor, making him the first Broncos rookie quarterback to receive the accolade.
Defense: Terrel Bernard, Buffalo Bills Bernard’s defensive dominance sealed the Bills’ 30-21 win over the Chiefs, highlighted by eight tackles, a sack, and a game-sealing interception. Bernard was the only NFL player in Week 11 with both a sack and an interception. This marks his second career Player of the Week award, cementing his place among Buffalo’s top linebackers. Bernard also joins Xavien Howard as the only Baylor players with multiple Defensive Player of the Week honors since 2000.
Special Teams: Chris Boswell, Pittsburgh Steelers Boswell’s six field goals, including three over 50 yards, accounted for all of Pittsburgh’s points in their 18-16 victory over Baltimore. He became the first player in NFL history to make six field goals in three career games and joined an elite group of kickers with multiple such performances in a single season. This is Boswell’s fourth Player of the Week honor, tying Jeff Reed for the most by a Steelers kicker.
Football fans waited for the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills to reignite their rivalry all weekend long. The game did not dissapoint but the result was the same as previous playoff battles: Patrick Mahomes beat Josh allen.
The Chiefs held on to get a 27-24 win after Bills kicker Tyler Bass kicked a game-tying, 44-yard field goal wide right.
The Bills provided a handful of head scratching plays, including a fake punt attempt to Damar Hamlin in their own territory and Allen missing a wide open Stefon Diggs on their final drive.
“We were within a whisker of tying that game and maybe even taking the lead there against the defending world champs,” McDermott said via Jori Epstein of Yahoo! Sports. “So again, we just didn’t do enough — starting with me — to win this game.”
The game would end with Mahomes in victory formation and sending Bills Mafia home in tears. Mahomes and the Chiefs are going to their sixth straight AFC Title game in a row.
Mahomes and Kelce teamed for two touchdowns, tying Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski for the most by any quarterbacka dn reciever duo in history.
“I love being at Arrowhead,” Mahomes said. “I love being at Arrowhead and playing in front of that crowd. But when you’re on the road, it’s you versus them. It’s you versus everybody in the stadium, and you have to come together as a team and let guys do that. You saw that in the game today.”
That “you versus everybody” will continue as the Baltimore Ravens are waiting to welcome Mahomes to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, where the presumed league MVP Lamar Jackson will be waiting.
In their matchup against the Houston Texans, the Ravens were poured by Jackson, who delivered a four touchdown performance, rushing for two and throwing for another two. Jackson finished with 16 completions on 22 attempts for 152 yards and two more touchdowns.
The Ravens blew out the Texans 34-10.
The AFC Title game between the two superpowers will be on Sunday at 2:30 EST on CBS.
With the Bills’ starting safety Jordan Poyer ruled out with a knee injury, Damar Hamlin is set to make his first NFL appearance of the season against the Miami Dolphins this weekend. While Hamlin played in the preseason, he is yet to appear in a regular-season game in 2023. When he takes the field against the Dolphins, it will mark his first regular-season appearance since suffering a cardiac arrest during the Bengals at the end of the 2022 season.
However, Hamlin has been far from passive during his recovery. He’s helped change the world while he’s at it. During his recovery, Hamlin lobbied Congress to help expand access to the life-saving equipment that gave Hamlin a fighting chance. The Bills are slight favorites in the matchup, coming in as 2.5-point favorites. Whoever wins the matchup will take control of AFC East at this early juncture in the season.
Dolphins at Bills is set to be one of the standout matchups of the fourth week of the NFL. The 3-0 Dolphins have established themselves as one of the top teams in the league this season. Meanwhile, the Bills have bounced back from a shock loss against the Jets in week 1 to once again show that they are once again a serious contender. The Bills enter with the #2 defense in terms of yards allowed and are #3 in sacks. Despite the loss to the Jets, they have proven themselves as one of the best units in the league this season. However, can they top a team that scored 70 points on their last opponent?
Meanwhile, the Dolphins have the #1 offense in the league. They lead the league in total yards, passing yards, and running yards. `They are also first in points per game with 43.3. That’s not to say that the Bills are slacking on offense. They are #2 in points per game. Furthermore, they are #8 in yards per game. However, the crux of this matchup will be Miami’s offense against Buffalo’s defense.
Mike Williams, a former college standout who played five years in the NFL, has been reported to have died at the age of 36. Williams played college football at Syracuse, where he remains 7th in career receiving yards. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Following an electric rookie year, he came within 100 yards of a 1000-yard season on two separate occasions, 2010 and 2012. He finished second in Rookie of the Year voting behind Sam Bradford. He was traded to the Bills ahead of the 2014 but only made eight catches in nine games and was cut. While he, briefly attempted to make a comeback in 2016, he was cut by the Chiefs during training camp.
According to a GoFundMe set up to help Williams’ family, he was struck in the head by a steel beam on September 1. Williams had been working in Tampa and that is where he was hospitalized and later died, according to the GoFundMe launched by his mother.
“Dang man hurts my heart seeing the news of my former teammate and Buccaneers 2010 draft class brother Mike Williams. “Always great energy brought joy and laughter to the locker room and a heck of a player!! Prayers and blessings to his family!!,” Williams’ Bucs teammate Gerald McCoy wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The top two receivers on the 2012 Bucs were Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams, combined for 17 touchdowns that season. Neither of them made it to 40 — Jackson lost at 38, Williams at 36. Just tragic,” added Fox Sports’ Greg Auman.
Neither the Bucs nor Syracuse have released a statement about Williams’ passing. However, social media has been filled with fans lamenting his passing. One blog described him as “never scoring a boring touchdown” while many were shocked to see someone they had enjoyed watching die at such a young age. Williams may not have had the longest NFL career. However, it was a career that clearly touched the lives of many people. Rest in peace, Mike.
Blueface and Chrisean Rock heated up a lot of drama between them over this past week, which is clearly getting nowhere closer to reconciliation. Moreover, the former couple are blasting each other over social media, making jokes, insults, and accusations towards each other. A lot of this surrounds not just Rock’s pregnancy by him, but also her relationship with his family. Furthermore, it’s wild to see how that is developing in real-time, given that we have a different look at what was going on before. Through their reality TV show “Crazy In Love,” viewers get to see what was going down during the tumultuous point in their relationship that they are now facing the repercussions of.
For example, the show narrates how Karlissa Saffold, Blueface’s mom, went to Chrisean Rock’s house one night. Apparently, the California rapper was missing, and neither she nor Chrisean Rock could get in contact with him. In addition, she wanted Rock to give her payment for her bills, which the “Baddies” star refused to do. In fact, she did not want to speak to her at all, and another one of her family members had to go outside to hash things out.
Of course, since then, Blueface reappeared, and things got even more contentious between them. Not only that, but the “BDD” MC’s (other) baby mama Jaidyn Alexis threw herself into the ring recently. What’s more is that Blue even pleaded with Alexis to fight Chrisean Rock. Even though she refused, there’s clearly a lot of animosity between them that goes both ways. As Saffold keeps dissing Rock online for her attacks towards her son, this show is demonstrating how bad things already were.
Still, hopefully everyone involved will move past all this drama and beef within the next couple of months. After all, Chrisean has a new life ahead of her, as does Blueface with his mother and Jaidyn. As such, many fans (or rather, people who keep seeing it on their timelines) hope that this will all be over soon for their sake, regardless of blame. With their volatility and outspoken personas in mind, we can only cross our fingers. On that note, stay logged into HNHH for the latest news and updates on the Blueface and Chrisean Rock drama.
Four months ago, Damar Hamlin lay unresponsive on the field of Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. Moments before, he had suffered a cardiac arrest after tackling Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin was transferred to a Cincinnati hospital and released a week later. In the months since he had was released, he has become a very public figure. This included a visit to Capitol Hill, where he advocated for putting more automated external defibulators in schools. It was the fact that Paycor Stadium had an AED that saved Hamlin’s life.
Hamlin has seemingly made a miraculous recovery, one good enough to allow him to play for the Bills in the upcoming NFL season. At the time of writing, Hamlin’s name appears on the Bill’s active roster. This was further evidenced by Hamlin’s appearance at the Bills’ Organized Team Activities as we move deeper into the offseason.
Hamlin Sees Limited Participation
Hamlin’s participation in the OTAs was limited. According to Batavia Daily‘s Alex Brasky, Hamlin participated in “stretches, agility and conditioning work, along with individual drills.” Meanwhile, Hamlin did all this while “wearing a jersey, without pads”. However, head coach Sean McDermott made sure to temper expectations. “We’re taking it one day at a time and just support Damar in every way possible.” Hamlin also reconfirmed his intentions to play. “My heart is still in it. My heart is still in the game. I love the game,” Hamlin told reporters, “This event was life changing,” he continued. “But it’s not the end of my story. So I’m here to announce that I’m planning on making a comeback to the NFL.”
The Bills are blessed with plenty of depth at the safety position. Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde are still projected to start for the Bills, giving Hamlin plenty of time to build up to full strength. However, his participation at OTAs are a great sign that we might see Hamlin, who has played 29 games since being drafted in 2021, in the 2023 season. However, it’s a long way until the Bills open their season against the Bills. We’ll have all the latest NFL news as the season approaches here on HotNewHipHop.
Many have declared the New York Jets to be the winners of the 2023 offseason. The perennial laughingstock of the league swung a blockbuster trade for Aaron Rodgers. That move alone thrust them immediately into playoff contention and finally brought some stability to the quarterback position. But Rodgers was really the final puzzle piece for a roster the Jets have been building over the last few seasons.
However, with the NFL schedule announcement looming, people have begun to wonder exactly what the league has planned for Rodgers’ debut. The NFL schedule is a very complex thing but at its core, it needs to be entertaining. And the NFL wouldn’t want to have anything less than a certified banger for Rodgers’ new team debut. Well, we know now the first time Rodgers will step out in Jets’ green thanks to one of the many intentional leaks preceding the schedule announcement.
Rodgers To Debut On MNF Versus The Bills
Aaron Rodgers will make his debut as New York Jet on September 11. The fixture is slated to be a Monday Night at MetLife Stadium against the Buffalo Bills. So yeah, no pressure for Rodgers. Just a matchup against a division rival on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11 in New York. Rodgers has limited experience against the Bills, going 2-2 against Buffalo in his lengthy career. He’s recorded five touchdowns and four interceptions in those games.
The Jets are 5-11 in their 15 Monday Night Football appearances since 2010. Meanwhile, the Bills are 3-5. However, this may also set up another important debut. The last MNF game the Bills played was abandoned after Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. With Hamlin cleared to play in the 2023 season, he may also be making his return to the field in this game. Last season, the Bills and Jets split their two matchups. HotNewHipHop will also full coverage of the NFL schedule after it releases at 8pm EDT on May 11. How do you feel about this debut for Rodgers? Do you think he’s going to succeed with the Jets? Xzibit’s been having some difficulties in divorce court these days. The former MTV host’s ex-wife, Krista Joiner, filed for an increase in child support two months ago. Additionally, she made claims at the time that Xzibit hadn’t seen his son in half a year. Prior to her request, the rapper was paying a whopping $6,000 in overall support. While $2,239 went to child support, the other $3,702 a month went to spousal support.
Furthermore, according to court documents obtained by Radar, Joiner wants to increase the total to $14,000. Xzibit is to pay out child support ’til his 12-year-old son turns 18. She recalled the last time the rapper saw their son Gatlyn, was around Xzibit’s birthday in September 2022. His estranged wife also mentioned that their son tried to call on Christmas and claimed Xzibit refused to answer. Not only that, she dove deeper into the rapper’s finances, revealing that tax documents show otherwise. Despite claiming to only earn $25,000 a month, the tax documents display that he earns $45,000 a month.
Xzibit Is Goin’ Through It
Currently, Xzibit’s ex-wife is now demanding even more money. Joiner is demanding the former Pimp My Ride host pay another $230,000 to help pay for her legal fees and other expenses. According to more documents obtained by Radar Online, Joiner claims the rapper has more than enough to pay the whopping amount. She pointed out Xzibit’s multiple streams of income, including his thriving cannabis business. Moreover, the rap icon’s estranged spouse addressed the sale of their $579,000 home, along with his jewelry collection valued at over $800,000.
As if that wasn’t enough, she said the rapper should sell his $350,000 2018 Rezvani Jeep (why not?). Krista filed for divorce from Xzibit in 2021 after seven years of marriage. The former couple were together since 2001 and had two children together, however, one tragically passed 11 days after birth. She continued to tell the court that she’s behind on her legal bills and needs support since she’s unemployed and looking for work. Joiner notes she’s having to, “devote much of her time to these divorce proceedings and taking care of their son.” How do you think this will play out in court? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
On Monday, January 2nd, 2023, Damar Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills took on the Cincinnati Bengals in a key AFC matchup. The cap for Week 17 began without a hitch as the Bengals took an early lead.
Late in the first quarter, the unthinkable happened. Tee Higgins caught a pass from Joe Burrow and turned upfield, putting his shoulder into Hamlin’s chest. The two fell forward to end the play.
Hamlin and Higgins both got up and for a second, all was normal. That second quickly evaporated, though, and Hamlin stumbled to the turf. He collapsed on the field and medical staff began rushing onto the field.
What transpired then was something rarely seen on a football field, nor any pitch, diamond, court or the like.
Damar Hamlin is resuscitated
After he fell to the ground, medical staff had to bring Damar Hamlin back to life. The second-year safety required several minutes of CPR to get his heart started back. All the while, the Bills and Bengals gathered in shock at what they had just seen.
Eventually, the medical staff got Hamlin back and put him on a stretcher and took him off the field in an ambulance. He was rushed to the nearby hospital and still in critical condition.
Later that evening, at about 10 pm EST, the NFL postponed the game. They weren’t sure what to do and days later decided to cancel it outright. Despite the major playoff implications, the NFL couldn’t make those players go back out on that field.
It was confirmed the next day that the safety had suffered a cardiac arrest on the field, but had his heartbeat restored there.
The Bills safety remained in the ICU overnight and his condition remained critical.
The first good news
On Wednesday, January 4th, the first sign of good news came. Doctors refrained from giving any specifics, but an ESPN reporter was able to confirm that positive progress had been made overnight.
It was then that it was revealed that Damar Hamlin had been resuscitated twice on the field. Two separate times, the medical staff had to step in to ensure he kept breathing.
The Bills would later announce that Hamlin was making more progress throughout the day.
He’s doing better
On Thursday, January 5th, teammate Kaiir Elam told the world that Hamlin was “doing better.”
The team would later announce that their safety had made significant improvements over the past 24 hours, but that he was not out of the woods yet. They announced that he appeared to be “neurologically intact.”
An NFL reporter said that day that Damar Hamlin had been able to open his eyes and grip the hands of his friends and family- the best sign of improvement yet.
That day was also the first time Hamlin, though not verbally, was able to communicate. The safety asked doctors via pen and paper, “Did we win?”
Breathing tube removed
What could have been and what almost was an unthinkable tragedy was quickly turning into one of the most inspiring stories. The entire world had united around this player who was miraculously recovering before their very eyes.
On Friday, January 6, the medical staff removed the breathing tube, allowing the safety to finally breath entirely on his own. It was at this time that he also was finally able to talk to people, communicating with the team and his family.
At this point, Damar Hamlin was in good spirits. He had and still has a long way to go, but he was finally looking good and told his teammates, “Love you boys.”
Though he was still in the hospital, he watched his Bills take on the New England Patriots on January 8th. It had been three (Hamlin’s jersey number) years and three months to the day since the Bills had run back a kickoff for a touchdown.
On the opening kick, Nyheim Hines ran it back for a score, inspiring all watching- including Hamlin from his hospital room.
Moving home
After a very long week, Damar Hamlin was finally able to leave the hospital in Cincinnati. He was transferred back home to Buffalo, though he remained under care in a hospital there.
He would continue to undergo testing and receive care in Buffalo, but continues to make an impressive recovery. On Wednesday, nine days after being admitted, the star safety was finally discharged to continue his rehab from home.
Jamie Nadler, the physician who was in charge of Hamlin’s care, said:
“We are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills.”
On January 14, Hamlin reappeared in the Bills’ locker room prior to their emotional playoff victory over the Miami Dolphins.
On February 12, he was seen and honored on the field ahead of the Super Bowl. This was his first major appearance in public since his cardiac arrest more than a month prior.
It has been a long, strenuous and often unclear journey for Hamlin. It was recently reported that the safety would eventually be able to play football again if he wanted. Not long ago, that seemed entirely trivial and totally out of the question.
Damar Hamlin says that he owes assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington his life. Kellington performed CPR on the Buffalo Bills safety after he suffered cardiac arrest on the field in January. Hamlin’s injury occurred during the Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football on January 2, 2023. Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest after making a tackle on wide receiver Tee Higgins. He stood up momentarily before passing out and falling back to the ground. Hamlin spoke about the incident during his first interview in the time since on Good Morning America. The interview, conducted by Michael Strahan, is set to air on ABC, Monday.
“I owe Denny my life, literally. He loves to say he was just doing his job, which is true. That night he was literally the savior of my life, administering CPR on me.” Hamlin adds he’s “truly thankful” for Kellington’s live-saving work, adding, “I don’t take [it] for granted.”
Hamlin’s Interview
Hamlin also discussed the money he received to his foundation after his medical emergency with TMZ Sports. The 24-year-old says that he plans to “change the world” with the funds. Over 240k contributors donated a total of $9M to his Chasing M’s Foundation. “I’m gonna change the world,” he says. “Change the world.”
Hamlin received a standing ovation at the NFL Honors on Thursday. Addressing the response from the crowd at the event, Hamlin said: “First, I would like to just thank God for even being here. Every day I’m amazed that my experiences could encourage so many others across the country and even across the world — encourage to pray, encourage to spread love, and encourage to keep fighting no matter the circumstances.” He added: “My vision was about playing in the NFL and being the best player I could be. But God’s plan was to have a purpose greater than any game in this world.” For his efforts in saving Hamlin, Kellington earned a vote for NFL MVP, leaving him ninth overall in the vote tally for the award. Patrick Mahomes ended up winning the award. Damar Hamlin’s full interview with Strahan airs Monday, Feb. 13 on Good Morning America.
