Tyler The Creator’s “CHROMAKOPIA” Secures Yet Another Week At No. 1 On Billboard

Tyler The Creator faced some mockery on the Internet for dropping his album on a Monday, but he ended up having his best commercial performance to date. Moreover, CHROMAKOPIA now spends its third week atop the Billboard 200 albums chart with 104K album-equivalent units sold in the week ending November 14, according to Billboard and Luminate. This now became the longest-running chart-topping LP from the Hawthorne native. The previous slot was for CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST in two separate weeks in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Streaming pushed most of these new numbers, although physical album sales and box sets also provided a boost.

What’s more is that this continued commercial success for CHROMAKOPIA comes as Tyler, The Creator is kicking off its live success for his upcoming tour. Following some smaller shows and listening parties, he closed out day one of his Camp Flog Gnaw carnival and festival at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium on Saturday night (November 16). It was the first time that the former Odd Future frontman performed many cuts off of the new project in a more formal, setlist-driven, full stage production setting with a massive audience, and it was a stellar main debut. Special guests included Doechii, Daniel Caesar, ScHoolboy Q, and even a twerk-off with Sexyy Red for “Sticky.” Better find a mop… Because they gave it their all, and someone has to clean up the sweat.

Tyler The Creator Goes No. 1 Again With CHROMAKOPIA

In addition to all this, Tyler, The Creator also contributed to another amazing last-quarter hip-hop album that adds to his achievements this week. He lent a small but welcome feature to Maxo Kream’s new project Personification, which you should absolutely spin right now if you haven’t already.

Meanwhile, Tyler, The Creator expressed his gratitude to fans a lot since CHROMAKOPIA dropped a few weeks ago, and you can tell this particular era and rollout for him is very special. It makes us even more excited to continue to dive in and enjoy the ride, and with his world tour on the way in 2025, we’re sure that we will be enjoying these new tracks for a long time.

Drake’s Ranking On Billboard’s “Greatest Pop Star” Of The 21st Century List Causes Internet Fervor

Drake has been ranked as the fourth greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard, making for the latest update in their viral list. Explaining the decision, the outlet cited his utter dominance of the charts throughout his career, noting his 13 Hot 100 No. 1 singles and 13 Billboard 200 No. 1 albums.

The piece explains: “But impressive as his chart figures are, Drake’s impact on his era goes well beyond the stats. From the moment he first became a mainstream proposition in 2009, the Toronto MC widened the parameters of hip-hop stardom — both in the sound and content of the genre’s biggest hits and the background of and image projected by the hitmakers behind them — while also tugging it towards the mainstream’s middle.”

The Billboard article also addresses Drake’s recent feud with Kendrick Lamar, of which many fans declared him the loser. “And while he may be at the toughest moment of his career currently, betting against a bounceback from Drake — who, lest we forget, was the longest of long shots from Day One to become anything close to what he’s become today — remains a historically ill-advised move,” it reads.

Billboard Ranks Drake As The 4th Greatest Pop Star

Fans have been having mixed responses to the ranking. Many used the title of the list to reassert that Drake isn’t actually a rapper but instead a pop singer. Other fans of the Toronto artist wanted him placed even higher. The outlet has yet to announce the top three spots, but previous selections in the top 10 include Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Usher, Eminem, and more. Check out Billboard’s ranking of Drake below.

The NFL is set to deliver exciting Thanksgiving halftime shows across all three games on November 28, 2024, with performances from celebrated music and entertainment artists.

Country music’s rising star Shaboozey, a six-time Grammy nominee, will kick off the day at the Detroit Lions game against the Chicago Bears at 12:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Known for his unique blend of alternative country and hip-hop, Shaboozey brings his hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” to Ford Field for a memorable performance.

At 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX, Grammy-winning Lainey Wilson, reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year, will perform during the Dallas Cowboys game against the New York Giants. Wilson’s show will mark the kickoff for The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle campaign and promises fans a festive, high-energy set.

Closing the night, violinist Lindsey Stirling will perform at Lambeau Field as the Green Bay Packers take on the Miami Dolphins at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC. Stirling’s captivating mix of pop, classical, and electronic violin will bring a dynamic finish to the Thanksgiving lineup.

Shaboozey’s hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has climbed back to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking its 16th week at the top and tying the longest reign of the decade. First reaching No. 1 in July, the country-pop crossover now matches the success of Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” from 2023.

On the all-time chart, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is one of only five songs to lead for at least 16 weeks, just behind Lil Nas X’s record-holding “Old Town Road.” The song also extends a 20-week run on the Hot Country Songs chart, among only nine titles to reach this milestone.

If Jeopardy contestants know who you are, you have (sort of) officially made it. Between that, his Beyoncé co-sign and sheer chart dominance, Shaboozey is an undeniable country music force.

Since its release, Shaboozey’s single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” has been a consistent fixture on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. Today (November 4), the outlet confirmed that the single set another record. As of the chart’s last update, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is now tied with three other smashes to hold the coveted No. 1 spot for at least 16 weeks, which includes Morgan Wallen’s 2023 hit “Last Night.”

The other two hits include 16, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s 2017 banger “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men’s 1995 collaboration “One Sweet Day.” However, Lil Nas X’s 2019 breakthrough track “Old Town Road” (the version that features Billy Ray Cyrus) still maintains the overall record.

Back then, Lil Nas X’s country hybrid record held tight to the No. 1 spot for 19 weeks. For now, Shaboozey can brag about “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” having “the longest reign of the 2020s” as the outlet pointed out.

Only time will tell if Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” cross the 19 weeks at No. 1 mark. But fans surely are rooting for his pursuit of the career milestone.

Tyler The Creator’s ‘Chromakopia’ Debuted At No. 1 Despite Losing Three Days Of Streams With Its Monday Release

Tyler The Creator
Philip Cosores

Tyler The Creator’s new album Chromakopia tops the Billboard 200 albums chart this week with the highest sales total of any new rap album this year. Chromakopia earned 299,500 album equivalent units, according to Billboard, breaking down to 157,000 on-demand streams and 142,000 direct album sales. It’s the biggest first week of Tyler’s career; his last album, Call Me If You Get Lost, earned 169,000 album equivalent units, while its predecessor, Igor, racked up 165,000. The only higher rap debut of 2024 was the streaming re-issue of Travis Scott’s 2014 mixtape, Days Before Rodeo, which pulled in 361,000 equivalent units.

Here’s the thing, though: Tyler released on a Monday, foregoing an entire weekend of potential streams and sales, which means he could have outsold Scott by A LOT in a full week. It also goes to show that with a tight rollout and fan interest, early week releases are just as viable — perhaps even more so — than dropping on Friday. Of course, if every artist and label agreed to go back to Tuesdays, there’d be more competition, but it also seems that they wouldn’t hurt for sales and streams, as fans would have a whole week to discover new music and listen to it throughout the day, without the distractions of weekend entertainment and errands.

The rest of the top ten is as follows: at No. 2, Halsey’s The Great Impersonator, at No. 3, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet, at No. 4, Kelsea Ballerini’s Patterns, at No. 5, Rod Wave’s Last Lap, at No. 6, Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady, at No. 7, Gracie Abrams’ The Secret of Us, at No. 8 Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time, at No. 9, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft , and at No. 10, GloRilla’s Glorious.

50 Cent Explains How Meek Mill Mishandled The Rumors Of His Alleged Relationship With Diddy

50 Cent says that Meek Mill messed up by responding to the rumors that he had an alleged sexual relationship with Diddy. Discussing Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s feud during an interview with Billboard, 50 brought up Meek Mill to argue that getting stuck on the defensive is always a bad move.

“When you say something that isn’t true, and the person wants to defend themselves, they encourage — the public likes that you’re vulnerable. Because it matters to you that it wasn’t true and they jump on you,” 50 explained, before bringing up Meek Mill as an example.

Meek Mill Poses With Diddy At Christian Combs’ Birthday Party

He continued: “That’s like Meek Mill. When they say Meek is fruity or gay with Puff in the situation now. It’s how he responds to it that makes people talk about it more. It gets bigger and bigger and it turns into a thing going on out there. You don’t hear one thing about French Montana. And French was in that circle and around that a lot. Not one thing, and Meek’s s–t is all over the place. It’s the way they respond to what people say about them publicly. They feel like, ‘That bothers you?’ If you say anything, then they start harping on that harder. They want the fight to continue.”

Meek has denied the allegations about being in a sexual relationship with Diddy time and time again. In September, he said on social media that he wanted to spend $100,000 to launch an investigation into the source of the allegations. 50’s comment comes as Diddy remains behind bars in Brooklyn while awaiting trial for charges of alleged sex trafficking and racketeering. He’s already pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations. Be on the lookout for further updates on 50 Cent and Meek Mill on HotNewHipHop.

Travis Scott Officially Gets “DAYS BEFORE RODEO” To Billboard No. 1 After Sabrina Carpenter Battle

Travis Scott may have been a couple of weeks late, but he finally got the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart that he and his team fought for. For those unaware, the tenth anniversary re-release of his fan-favorite mixtape DAYS BEFORE RODEO debuted at No. 2 upon release following a nail-biting but well-fought race with Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet LP… Potential sales discrepancies and all. However, now we can put that combative and minimizing conversation (that goes both ways) to rest, as the project jumped from 106 to No. 1 in its fourth week of release after vinyl editions exclusively available on La Flame’s website shipped out.

In fact, this is the biggest sales week for any hip-hop vinyl in modern history, and contributed to a total of 156K album-equivalent units sold in the tracking week ending September 19. Traditional album sales account for 150,000 of these numbers, but don’t think that the Houston superstar isn’t dominating streaming numbers as well. It’s Travis Scott’s biggest-ever vinyl week (149,000 copies), and the sixth-biggest vinyl week ever across all genres since Luminate’s tracking data for this began in 1991. Some more superlatives: so far, it’s reportedly 2024’s best-selling rap album and the best-selling mixtape of all time.

Travis Scott’s DAYS BEFORE RODEO Hits No. 1

Furthermore, this is Travis Scott’s fourth consecutive No. 1 solo album placement (albeit not upon its debut), with Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, ASTROWORLD, and UTOPIA preceding it in 2016, 2018, and 2023 respectively. If you count the JACKBOYS compilation, then it’s his fifth No. 1 project (fun fact: this label team-up was the first No. 1 project on Billboard of the 2020s decade). Given all the massive shows that the “MY EYES” creative is doing across South America right now, we can imagine that he has ample reason and room to celebrate with his fans, loved ones, and team.

Meanwhile, some Travis Scott fans were disappointed this week for very different reasons. His teased feature on Future’s MIXTAPE PLUTO did not manifest, leaving a lot of fans scratching their heads as to why the guests didn’t show up. Maybe some clearance and label issues got in the way? We don’t know, but surely this news gives them at least something to cheer for.

Future Gets Promising “MIXTAPE PLUTO” First Week Sales Projections

When we look back at 2024 in the hip-hop history books, we won’t be able to tell that story without Future’s prolific run. After two Metro Boomin collab albums that kicked off a legendary rap battle, he’s back with MIXTAPE PLUTO. While the discussion around this new project didn’t come with as many extracurricular narratives, it clearly still resonated with audiences. Moreover, HITS Daily Double reports that the mixtape is projected to sell anywhere between 120K and 135K units in its first week. This means that it has a solid chance of cinching another No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the Atlanta MC, which would mark his 11th album to do so.

Of course, we won’t know for sure until the official charts drop next week, but this is still a big win for Future. However, some fans still expressed confusion around MIXTAPE PLUTO. Some teased features for the project, including Travis Scott and Gunna, didn’t end up appearing. In fact, the latter seemed to address this issue online, which fueled more theories and rumors about the potential reasons why.

Nevertheless, there’s a good reason as to why fans are enjoying Future’s latest mixtape so much. As the title suggests, MIXTAPE PLUTO is more evocative of his classic 2010s releases than his Metro collabs, on which we only got a slight taste of them through the bonus tracks on WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU. Sure, these collab albums held plenty of shades of 56 Nights and other tapes, but this new record and its impressive production credits fully lean into Pluto’s talents and classic appeal.

Meanwhile, Future’s influence continues to loom large over much of the rap world. For example, Playboi Carti puzzled fans when he dropped the single “ALL RED,” mainly because he sounded so much like his “Teen X” collaborator. While this is a more obvious and direct comparison, this isn’t even counting the countless rap projects that owe much of their identity to Fewtch in recent years. With projects like MIXTAPE PLUTO under his belt and its subsequent success, it’s no wonder he’s still a king.

Travis Scott’s Label Accuses Billboard & Luminate Of Sabotaging Sabrina Carpenter Race

The conspiracy theory that Sabrina Carpenter robbed Travis Scott of a No. 1 Billboard album chart debut just got even more contentious. Moreover, for those unaware, these artists had one of the closest sales races in recent memory, with Sabrina’s Short N’ Sweet beating our Travis’ re-released DAYS BEFORE RODEO by just about 1,000 units as of September 3’s final results. But a new Vulture article claims that the publication reportedly received a very interesting alleged letter sent from Scott’s label Cactus Jack to Billboard and Luminate, which is the company that tracks Billboard‘s weekly chart data. In it, Cactus Jack accused them of a “unreliable and incomplete” data tracking process that legitimately cost their artist a chart-topping debut.

However, the Cactus Jack brand claimed that they are “not reaching out as management for an upset artist” but rather as representatives of Travis Scott’s label and store. This is all a bit complicated and alleged, but we’ll try to sum up the gist of it under the unconfirmed assumption that this is what the supposed letter contains. Basically, Cactus Jack learned that “about 1,000 units” of DBR that came out as new digital deluxe editions on August 29 (the last tracking day) at 11:20 EST would not be reported this week, but rather in the next tracking week due to a delay. The label reportedly didn’t take issue with this since they were in the lead as of Saturday, August 31 by about 11,000 copies. But Carpenter took the lead by Sunday through independent retail sales.

Travis Scott & Sabrina Carpenter Sales Battle Is Still Under Scrutiny

Furthermore, the letter from Travis Scott’s label accuses Luminate and Billboard of weighting Sabrina’s indie record sales more heavily than regular album sales. According to them, this contrasted the decision to stop that particular weighting practice at the start of 2024 to ensure more accuracy. “It clearly bumped Sabrina’s final number of units just above Travis by almost the exact amount of units we erroneously ‘lost’ that would have counted toward week 1,” the letter reportedly reads. These units “comprised 1,291 actual units verified to have timestamps between 11:45–11:59pm” according to the letter. Cactus Jack claims that they tried to speak to Luminate about this before September 3.

Another alleged element is that this same situation happened to Travis Scott’s UTOPIA last year, but that they were able to count it that time around. As such, there’s a bit of a contentious discrepancy here according to the letter. Finally, the most scandalous claim from this letter is the accusation that the Luminate employee that Cactus Jack and Single tried to resolve this unit issue with is a former employee of Sabrina Carpenter’s label, Island Records. They think that this employee had a biased reason for Carpenter to get the No. 1 spot, and thus ignored or erroneously downplayed these numbers. The letter ends by asking Luminate “to give one final consideration” to this debacle. “We are confident that our numbers are correct in accordance with our processes and methodology,” a Luminate spokesperson reportedly expressed regarding this letter.
