Symba recently shared a new, touching clip on social media. He took to Instagram yesterday to share footage of him hugging Jadakiss at a recent BET Awards event. In the sweet clip, Jadakiss is heard giving Symba some words of encouragement. In his caption, Symba calls Jadakiss “The only teacher I ever wanted to make proud.” Fans eagerly raced to the comments sections to share their thoughts on the emotional clip.
“This is so dope! When one of doze onez say ‘you wanna dem onez’…. THAT’S WORK PUT IN!!!! Congrats,” one user tells Symba. “Ain’t nothing better than two Black men showing each other love,” another adds. Other social media users note that Jadakiss’ influence on Symba’s music is apparent, making the touching moment all the more meaningful. “From the first time I heard a verse I knew Jadakiss must have influenced your style,” an Instagram commenter says, “Real recognize real.”
“They don’t make ’em like you, baby,” Jadakiss is heard telling Symba in the clip. He continues, “They don’t make ’em like you. I love it, baby. Dog, you one of dem ones.” The clip showcases just how impactful Jadakiss has been on Symba’s life and career.
Earlier this year, Jadakiss shared some rappers who may have had an influence on his own career. During an interview with Erika Fernandez, he told her his top five rappers. “Biggie, DMX, Nas, JAY-Z,” he listed, leaving one spot for himself. He also appeared on UPROXX’s Fresh Pair in 2022, where he discussed his favorite rappers. “I think Guru, rest in peace. [Method Man], you know when the [Wu-Tang Clan] came Meth’s voice was deep and raspy and just he has an ill voice,” he explained. “Big, with the nasal. Sounds like he’s having a hard time breathing but that’s making his cadence extra crazy. Tone-Loc, Tone-Loc’s voice was ill. Nas, with the nasal. That’s voices! So don’t get mad at me.”
The 2023 BET Awards paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with a massive slate of decades-spanning performances. The first, taking place just after Lil Uzi Vert’s opening performance of “Just Wanna Rock,” included Sugarhill Gang performing their career hit, “Rapper’s Delight” and an appearance from MC Lyte performing “Cha Cha Cha,” as well as D-Nice (yes, that D-Nice) with “Call Me D-Nice,” and Big Daddy Kane rapping “Raw,” all accompanied by DJ Kid Capri on the wheels of steel. A Biz Markie tribute followed as the crowd sang along to “Just A Friend.” And that was all in the first ten minutes.
There are a ton of performers left to hit the stage, including Kid ‘N Play, Uncle Luke, Warren G, E-40, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Master P, Remy Ma, Trick Daddy, Trina, the Ying Yang Twins, Chief Keef, Soulja Boy, and Tyga. More contemporary performances are set to include 2023 nominees Coco Jones, Doechii, GloRilla, and more.
The BET Awards aren’t the only ones paying homage to 50 years of hip-hop. The Grammys put on a 10-minute show to celebrate, while UPROXX has held it down with interviews with Just Blaze and Rhymesayers. Stay tuned for more BET Awards coverage as the ceremony continues.
The 2023 BET Awards are celebrating 50 years of hip-hop with an emphasis on the genre’s pioneers. However, they haven’t forgotten about the new school. Opening up the ceremony was Lil Uzi Vert with a performance of his hit song “Just Wanna Rock.” With an army of dancers by their side, the Philadelphia native highlighted rap music’s incorporation of dance sub-genres like Jersey Club.
Although they weren’t nominated in any categories this year, that didn’t stop Lil Uzi Vert from using the time to tease what’s come from their upcoming project, The Pink Tape. Right before they wowed the crowd with “Just Wanna Rock,” the rapper played a snippet from an unreleased song.
During an Instagram live stream with popular streamer Kai Cenat, Lil Uzi Vert personally shared details about the forthcoming release. During the broadcast, Uzi revealed that all songs for the album had been chosen. According to the musician, The Pink Tape will feature 24 tracks, including their smash single “Just Wanna Rock.”
The BET Awards 2023 will witness an unforgettable moment as Patti LaBelle, the iconic singer, pays homage to the late Tina Turner.
LaBelle, known for her remarkable talent, will grace the stage and capture the essence of the incomparable Queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll. This performance, slated to be extraordinary, promises to celebrate Turner’s unparalleled legacy and leave an indelible mark on the hearts of music lovers worldwide. Be ready for an unforgettable tribute this Sunday.
Tina Turner died earlier this year from natural causes. Her rep spoke with The Daily Mail, revealing the cause of death and also noting an unspecified illness. Turner also previously had intestinal cancer and high blood pressure for over four decades. She was 83 years old.
However, on June 23, it was reported that Boosie had been granted a second bond. Later that same day, Boosie was seemingly released from the San Diego jail where he was being held. While his initial bond was $50,000, the size of his new bond was not immediately made available. To celebrate, he immediately jumped on another live session to announce his freedom.
“He’s baaaaack!” Boosie began his post-release live stream. “I wan’ thank God. I got chairs on my knees, I been praying so much. My family, all the prayer warriors who came to San Diego to support me. Yeah, Boosie Boo. Yeah! BET, I need three tickets. I go to BET Awards but I gotta go to my attorney’s.” The BET Awards are due to take place on the evening on June 25.
Someone outside the car Boosie is sitting in yells “Badazz!” causing the rapper to once again get riled up. “That’s me! I’m back! Boosie Boo! That’s me! I’m back! I’m drivin’ the jeep. First day back. Prussia! You can get a ride now. But BET, I need three tickets. I need a haircut. Oh man, I’m outta breath already. Boosie’s baaaaaack!” At this time, it is unclear what the next legal steps for Boosie are. A bond grant does not mean that the charges have been dropped. This is a developing story and we’ll have any updates here at HotNewHipHop.
Busta Rhymes will be presented with a huge honor this weekend. The iconic rapper will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s BET Awards. The award acknowledges his significant contributions to the music industry and his lengthy career. According to Billboard, his peers will honor him during the event. Artists such as Coi LeRay and Rah Digga, among others, will be paying tribute to his impressive thirty-year career.
Busta Rhymes isn’t the only icon that the award has been presented to. The Lifetime Achievement Award has previously been granted to many notable hip-hop figures. Among those that have received it are artists like Queen Latifah and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Scott Mills, the CEO of BET, praised Busta Rhymes for his exceptional talent and impact on the culture. He emphasized Busta’s unique hip-hop sound and captivating visuals. Additionally, Mills expressed pride in presenting the award to a visionary and pioneer in the field of rhyme. However, just because Busta is receiving a Lifetime Achievement award doesn’t mean he’s finished.
Busta Rhymes has had an extremely extensive career. Many artists at this point would no longer be part of the culture. However, despite all of that, Busta Rhymes remains a relevant artist in the 21st century. He recently collaborated with BIA on a summer jam titled “Beach Ball.” The track will be featured on his upcoming album. The song showcases energetic beats, catchy rhymes, and BIA’s always-captivating performance. It is, of course, complemented by Busta Rhymes’ distinct dark and deep delivery.
The official music video for “Beach Ball” was released on June 23. The release followed an intriguing and mysterious move by Busta Rhymes’ on social media. The icon cleared out his entire Instagram page. Once he had done that, he left only a cryptic photograph as a teaser for his next move. The hip-hop veteran deleted all his photos, replacing them with an image of a beach ball. That same picture also became his new profile picture. The caption “6.23.23” hinted at a potential album release date. However, it was later clarified as the drop date for the “Beach Ball” single. What do you think about Busta Rhymes being presented with the award? Who else do you think deserves one? Let us know in the comments below!
The term “blackballed” gets thrown a lot these days. Rappers fail to land on the Billboard charts, and all of a sudden, there’s a massive conspiracy to take them down. In many cases, this simply isn’t true. However, for Chief Keef, there’s validity behind these claims regarding his relationship with BET.
The Chicago rapper will perform at the 2023 BET Awards – the first time in his illustrious career – this Sunday, June 25th. He will be joining an all-star generation-spanning roster of talent for their celebration of Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary. Given Chief Keef’s impact and influence, it only makes sense that he joins the likes of Fat Joe, E-40, Tyga, Big Daddy Kane, and more to celebrate the milestone.
Still, At one point, it felt like a far-fetched concept to see Chief Keef appear at the BET Awards or any other programs on the network. The network banned him from the 2013 iteration, and he unleashed a fiery rant on social media in response. Although the reason for the ban wasn’t clear at the time, many chalked it up to his controversial nature, whether due to the violent nature of his music, his feuds with other rappers, or his NSFW social media posts. Keef would later claim that he was effectively banned from BET. As fans anticipate his performance this Sunday, we’re diving into the reason why he was blackballed in the first place.
As fans inquired why the hottest rapper at the time wouldn’t appear at the BET Awards, Chief Keef explained in 2014 that it was because he failed to show up at 106 & Park. “BET banned me a long time ago becuz I didn’t attend 106 & Park cuz I ain’t f**ckin’ feel like it,” he tweeted to a fan. It’s an explanation that doesn’t come as much of a surprise, given that this is the same rapper that flaked on a video shoot with 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa for the lead single of his debut album.
At the height of Chief Keef’s popularity, he took social media where he declared, “F*ck BET Awards.” Shortly after revealing the mishap at 106 & Park, he went off on the network and the annual event with promises to stir up problems. “I’mma let y’all know right now. If we go to the BET Awards, chains gettin’ took, b*tches gettin’ f*cked. Baby mama’s gettin’ f*cked, still pregnant. All of that,” he said.
In 2016, Bow Wow finally confirmed that the speculation surrounding Chief Keef’s relationship with BET was, in fact, true. On Twitter, Bow Wow confirmed that BET placed a ban on the Chicago rapper, which he hinted later played a role in Keef’s inability to break into the mainstream. “BET banned sosa. I was fighting to get sosa on 106 it was no go from the uppers. They really black balled him from mainstream its cr*zy,” he wrote.
This Sunday, Chief Keef will join an all-star roster of talent, which includes Big Daddy Kane, DJ Unk, Ja Rule, Kid N’ Play, Soulja Boy, Master P, MC Lyte, and plenty of others for the BET Awards Hip Hop 50 Medley. It’s unclear what song Chief Keef might perform but we could imagine he’ll be one of the highlights at the show.
The BET Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on June 25th, 2023. The show begins at 8 p.m. Will you be tuning in?

Within the past five years, City Girls have taken over the contemporary hip-hop scene, releasing party-ready bangers that are guaranteed to turn clubs upside down. City Girls reached mainstream recognition with their appearance on Drake’s 2018 single, “In My Feelings.” Since then, the two have been churning out hit songs, including “Act Up,” “Twerk,” and “Twerkulator.” Their latest feature on Diddy’s “Act Bad” is an instant party soundtrack for this summer. Drake and 21 Savage first teamed up in 2017 for the one-off single, “Sneakin.” Since then, the two have been closely collaborating, appearing on each other’s albums. Drake appeared on 21 Savage’s “Mr. Right Now” from Savage Mode II in 2020 while 21 featured on Drake’s “Knife Talk” from Certified Lover Boy the following year.
21 Savage was the lone feature on Drake’s dance album, 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind on “Jimmy Cooks,” which was one of the few obvious hip-hop offerings on the album. “Jimmy Cooks” became a big hit and as a result, the two joined forces for a full-length collaborative album. The release of the Her Loss album later that year officially marked Drake and 21 Savage joining together as a group. Her Loss sparked many viral hits, including “Rich Flex.” 21 Savage will join Drake on his It’s All a Blur Tour this summer, playing arenas across North America.
dvsn has been holding down R&B for a while now. The Canadian duo, consisting of singer Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85, signed to Drake’s OVO Sound label in 2016. Together, they have released four studio albums that emulate the classic era of 90s and 2000s R&B while also embracing the sounds of today. Their debut album, 2016’s Sept. 5th is widely considered as a modern classic, consisting of multiple tracks that have been certified gold. They have worked with Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Future, Buju Banton, Popcaan, Snoh Aalegra, Miguel, and others. Last year, dvsn released their fourth studio album, Working On My Karma, and have toured the album heavily, playing shows in North America and Europe.
FLO are one of the UK’s latest sensations. Maverick City Music & Kirk Franklin stand out among the hip hop-centric list of best group nominees for the 2023 BET Awards. Their Kingdom Tour led to the release of their live album, Kingdom Book One, in 2022. Both Maverick City Music and Kirk Franklin are well-decorated, receiving numerous awards for gospel and Christian music awards, as well as Grammys. Their 2023 BET Award nomination for Best Group is further confirmation of their collaboration as a powerful collective.
Migos have won numerous BET Awards, including four awards in 2017. Following Culture II in 2018, the three Migos each released solo albums before teaming up for Culture III in 2021. In 2022, Quavo & Takeoff formed their own group as Unc & Phew, releasing “Hotel Lobby,” the biggest single from their collaborative album. Quavo & Takeoff’s Only Built For Infinity Links was released in late 2022, less than a month before Takeoff’s murder. The tragedy of Takeoff’s death shook the hip-hop community, and their best group nomination at the 2023 BET Awards speaks to his impact and legacy.
