Ebro finally responded after Akademiks accused him of blackballing DaBaby, among other artists in the genre.

Akademiks charged at industry executives in the past week in the wake of his comments towards hip-hop’s pioneers. Ak said Ebro was gatekeeping at Apple Music. As a result, Ak claimed Ebro prevents some of the most notable figures in rap from getting playlist placements.

“Da Baby’s last project in 2020, Blame it on Baby, sold 124K first week. His new project after being blackballed by Ebro, Apple Music is scheduled to do less than 20K,” DJ Akademiks tweeted on Wednesday. “Now yall understand my Ebro convo… DSPs control who is hot and who is not. Fall out of favor with them… UR DONE.”

In response to Akademiks’s comments, Ebro noted that Apple Music isn’t the only platform. He also called out the inconsistent argument that radio, DJs and platforms are to blame when an artist loses their momentum.

“Funny shit when artists get hot it is always how they built this themselves and the fans. When shit slows down it is radio, DJs, platforms, and the label. #BlameEbro is back for a whole new generation,” Ebro responded.

Ebro added that DaBaby should be able to get a few looks from Spotify, a platform that hosts Ak’s Off The Record podcast.

“Apple Music is not the only platform,” he continued. “Based on this dummy’s logic, Da Baby should be doing well on the platform HE works for. Is it?”

Finally, Ebro pointed out that Hot 97 allowed DaBaby to perform at Summer Jam, despite the controversy. Then, he added that he’s catching heat from the same people who’ve accused him of being irrelevant.

“Im confused… Im old and irrelevant. No one listens to my shows. But why am I always being brought up by people who are “more powerful” and “doing more for the culture” as the reason things don’t perform? Somebody lying!!

Still, Akademiks pushed back against Ebro. “If you weren’t the Global Head of Hip Hop and R&B for Apple nobody would mention u breh… It aint like n***as is reacting to u for shit u say or ur radio show. U just dont like that now ppl can c beyond the veil of these playlists esp at apple.. & u the n***a responsible for it,” he added.

“I gotta loud this issue up now.. it aint bout one artist… I remember when ppl use to say .. man its only 69 we dont like him anyway.. . then it was oh… its only Tory.. we dont fw him either.. now its YB, etc and the list keep getting longer. Stop the Blackballing,” he added, clarifying that he isn’t loyal to any one artist.

Tory Lanez On August Alsina Altercation: “I Don’t Have A Problem With Anybody”

The Breakfast Club tried to get to the bottom of Tory Lanez-August Alsina altercation that spread across the Internet earlier this month.

The Canadian rapper appeared on the radio show where DJ Envy and Angela Yee grilled him on the alleged assault against August Alsina.

“Now, recently, you got into an alleged altercation with an R&B singer, August Alsina,” Envy said, seemingly making Lanez uncomfortable.

“Look, man, like I said, I’m just here to answer about the album,” he said with an awkward chuckle. Envy pried even further by mentioning the video of Alsina completely ignoring Lanez’s attempt to shake hands.

Yee brought up the possible police investigation into the case, though Tory said he “couldn’t tell you.” “Don’t know what you know” he added.

“I’m just here for the album and positivity,” he continued. “I’m always here to answer all the questions and stuff,” he said, adding that he’s focused on preaching positivity. “Everything that’s been going on in my life and the things going on around me, I just try to keep positive. No disrespect, I’m just not here to talk about it.”

Still, Envy managed to squeeze in one final question about the video of Alsina dismissing Lanez’s handshake. Envy asked if Tory was aware if there was any friction between them prior to the incident. Interestingly enough, Tory revealed that he previously did songwriting for August Alsina in his collaboration with Meek Mill.

“Just generally speaking, regardless, I don’t have a problem with anybody. I wrote for him before this,” he said. “It’s not one of those.”

DJ Akademiks Accuses Ebro Of Blackballing DaBaby

DJ Akademiks has made headlines all month long for offending nearly every generation of Hip Hop. After getting blasted by the likes of LL Cool J, Russell Simmons and Michael Rappaport for claiming that pioneers of the genre were “dusty” and bad with money, the Youtuber stopped by the Power 105.1’s the Breakfast Club to clarify his statements while issuing the vets an apology.

He even atoned for his remarks against Lil Wayne’s daughter Reginae after being called out by her mom, Toya Wright, and “Uncle” T.I. for seemingly referring to her as a b****. “If she’s taking it in that sense offensively, I do apologize,” Ak stated. Despite his apology tour, the 31-year old media personality is still standing on his remarks about Hot 97 host Ebro. Last week, Akademiks called the radio host out for trying to “politic me out the game” while accusing the morning show host of blackballing certain artists

Ebro Darden

On Wednesday (September 28), Ak doubled down on his claims, suggesting that Ebro blackballed DaBaby and is “using Apple Music as a weapon for ur personal issues.” “Da Baby last project in 2020 ‘Blame it on Baby’ sold 124K first week,” the Off The Record podcast host tweeted. “His new project after being blackballed by Ebro, Apple Music is scheduled to do less than 20K. Now yall understand my Ebro convo. DSPs control who is hot and who is not. Fall out of favor with them.. UR DONE”

While Ebro has yet to address DaBaby claims, he did call out Akadmiks for his “dusty” comments earlier this week, tweeting, “You’re drunk. I told people I had jobs for you. You’d rather be drunk and disrespectful to women and align with scumbags. Do you boo boo!”

Wrapping up the Twitter exchange, the “WAP” rapper took to Instagram that same night to share a risqué photo of her and Offset cuddled up in their mansion, with the caption, “I fight for my b***hes and I’m fighter over d*** too.” While many thought the caption was a dig at Akbar, the 33-year old Atlanta native, who was featured on Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Freaky Girl,” Remix, couldn’t clap back, as her Twitter account was suspended a day after beefing with Cardi.

But that didn’t stop Akbar from reigniting her beef with the mom of two. On Wednesday (September 29), she shared a snippet of an alleged diss track against Cardi, in which she rapped, “It’s crack, and I smoke b***** like Pookie.” Shortly after, she took to Instagram Live to address the alleged diss track, saying, “It’s up and it’s stuck. Ain’t nothing coming down.”

But the subliminal didn’t end there. Akbar added, “It be the ones that don’t know what’s going on that have so much to say. I can really end b**** with like two lines. New music getting ready to drop.” The untitled diss track comes just days after Cardi prophesied on Twitter, “Let’s guess the next step… a diss track that’s going to be mass bought on iTunes and going to chart on twitter.”

“I wouldn’t say it was on a negative — back in the days, when I was having my little spat with Quik — this is way before we got cool […] Back in my heyday, I was a Crip; he was a Blood. Suge and them was Bloods. That was just the nature of Compton.”

From there, he explained that his mother and Suge’s mother both lived across the street from one another. One day, while Eiht was visiting his family, Suge pulled up on him.

“He told me to pull over and a couple of dudes walked up on my car, and he just wanted to tell me as far as the situation that was going down with me and Quik, the affiliations, it wouldn’t be trickled over into my mom’s place of residence.”

He added: “That was just the clarification I got from him that I didn’t have to worry about anything going down while my mom was living in their neighborhood.”

Eiht went on to explain that his feud with Quik essentially boiled down to their respective gang affiliations.

Soulja Boy Trades Shots With DJ Vlad On Twitter: “I Made You”

Soulja Boy and DJ Vlad went back and forth on Twitter, Tuesday night, after the “Crank That” rapper ranted about various rap bloggers during an Instagram Live session. Soulja claims that he made VladTV while Vlad argues that the site was already big before Soulja was ever interviewed.

“Hey @souljaboy, VladTV was already hot when we gave YOU your biggest interview,” Vlad tweeted at the rapper. “And unlike that SayCheese screenshot you showed, you don’t even have a top 20 interview on YouTube.com/VladTV. Stop having weekly temper tantrums about me & sit down with me in person anytime.”

Soulja replied: “I made you, Vladimir.”

From there, Vlad pulled up the receipts on the channel’s most popular interviews, ranking Soulja in line with “Afroman, Kevin Gates, and Ben J of the New Boyz.”

As for Soulja’s original comments that set Vlad off, he told the interviewer to “Stay in your fucking lane” and labeled him a “bitch.”

“DJ Vlad, you a bitch, right? So be a bitch then, n***a,” he said. “Don’t act like you a gangsta, n***a. Don’t get on the internet talking about, ‘Pull up.’ You’s a bitch, right? Yo, when you got your ass beat, you filed a lawsuit, right? Right. You ain’t ever shot nobody, right? No. You ain’t ever killed nobody, right? No. You don’t own a gang, right? No. You’s a bitch, right? Yes.”

He added: “You interview people, right? Right. So stop playing with a fucking real n***a when you’s a bitch, n***a. You interview people and ask them have they shot people, right? You don’t get interviewed about shooting people. You interview people and you fascinated with they gangsta stories, right? Right. People don’t interview you and ask you about your gangsta stories, do they? No.”

Soulja and Vlad previously exchanged insults in 2021, after Vlad interviewed the people who broke into his home back in 2008.

Azealia Banks Blasts Nicki Minaj For Being “Obsessed” With Cardi B

No one is safe with it comes to the wrath of Azealia Banks — especially her fellow female rappers. Last month, the Harlem rapper refueled her beef with Nicki Minaj after claiming that the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper was responsible for putting an end to her upcoming reality show. Azealia shared via Instagram that she was supposed to start filming a show with an undisclosed network, “but apparently Nicki gave the network an ultimatum because she knows I’ll have better ratings.”

The “212” rapper went on to unload on Nicki, claiming that the network execs, “all hate her and think she’s ghetto, terrible to work with, overweight and boring.” Though Nicki hasn’t responded to the accusations, Azealia still hasn’t let up on the Queens rapper. On Tuesday (September 27), Banks reignited her feud with Minaj by targeting the 39-year old’s beef with Cardi B. “Nicki is so obsessed with Cardi it’s only making me like cardi more,” Azaelia shared via Instagram.

“Nicki is giving twenty levels of peasy black girl with the burnt perm who is jealous of the Spanish girl that just moved down the block.” The controversial rapper continued on blasting the Barb for relying on “tokenism” to get ahead in the game. “A smart Nicki would have done the cardi, doja, Megan collabs smiled in their faces while safaree worked on her album in the background then came through and dominated. Without showing the world how desperately you’ve relied on tokenism and sabotaging other black female rappers behind the scenes.”

This isn’t the first time AB appeared to be team Cardi. Over the summer, she made headlines for calling the Bronx rapper an industry plant, but later clarified her statement, adding, “But sis took advantage of the opportunity and rode that bi**h the f**K out, assembled the right team, seized the moment and made herself a cultural mainstay. U have to respect it.”

Nicki Minaj has yet to comment on Azealia’s comments. Share your thoughts below.
