Nicki Minaj Attends Star-Studded “Barbie” Premiere

Nicki Minaj walked the pink carpet at the world premiere of Barbie on Sunday night, alongside many other celebrities. In doing so, Minaj rocked a muted lavender dress featuring a wrap skirt. She previously teamed up with Ice Spice for a new take on the Aqua Song “Barbie Girl” for the film’s soundtrack.

“There were a couple of songs that I didn’t love. And then there was another song, well this ‘Barbie’ sample, I loved it. I just wanted it to have a dope drum,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “The one they sent me I loved, and I jumped on it right away. I’m so excited to be here and be part of this entire moment. I’ve been saying Barbie my whole career so it’s a very full-circle moment for me.”

The star of the film, Margot Robbie, recently spoke with Rolling Stone about the importance of bringing Minaj and Ice Spice in for the soundtrack. “I was like, ‘Greta [Gerwig], how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ It has to be in there,’” Robbie said. “And [Greta] was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to find a cool way to incorporate it.’”

She continued: “When she was like, ‘Guess who’s going to do the remix of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.’ I was like, ‘Together? Are you joking?!’ I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds.”

Beyonce Gifts “Barbie” Soundtrack Artists Pink Ivy Park Collection

Beyonce recently sent a special surprise to some artists featured on the Barbie soundtrack. Nicki Minaj, whose song alongside Ice Spice “Barbie World,” appears on the soundtrack shared a photo of her gift today. “To the OG Barb,” Beyonce’s letter to Nicki begins, “I hope you enjoy my new collection.” The background of Nicki’s photo includes a variety of hot pink, sparkly clothing items. Nicki wasn’t the only one to receive a gift from Beyonce, as Mark Ronson also shared some photos on Twitter of the gifted collection. He posed on a sidewalk in a glittery pink tank top, noting that when Queen Bey sends you her new collection, “you might as well take all your other clothes off.”

The new film’s soundtrack, Barbie: The Album also features Lizzo, The Kid LAROI, PinkPantheress, Khalid, and more. Beyonce just wrapped up the European leg of her “Renaissance” tour, sharing some photos alongside her husband on social media. She posed with Jay-Z in a sweet series of photos on Instagram.

Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy, has also been joining her mother onstage at several tour dates lately. The 11-year-old has been showcasing her dance moves, and most viewers have been impressed. Some, on the other hand, have been critical. YouTuber Tasha K, for example, had some less than flattering things to say about Queen Bey’s daughter. “I need her to take a trip to the projects, alright? Her local rec center, local kids club, leave Blue Ivy down there for one week and let’s see if she’s able to loosen up,” she said. She added, “I just think Blue Ivy just needs a little bit of tweaking. If I’m paying $2,000 a seat, I don’t wanna see a robot up there. She look like the iRobot that be vacuuming my floors.”

After Blue Ivy’s grandmother Tina Knowles chimed in about negativity, Tasha K backpedaled a bit. “I am a Beyoncé fan,” she said. She added, however, that she has the right to “speak her mind.” “When you are charging that much money, and I’m a fan, and I voice a concern, because I’m leaving a Yelp review and a Google review. When I leave three stars on Google, instead of you saying ‘Ma’am, I understand,’ why are you sending this witch to my door?,” she asked.

“Barbie” Breathes New Life Into Pinterest

Barbie hits theaters on July 21 and has quickly become one of the most anticipated films of 2023. In a re-contextualization of the character from the mind of Greta Gerwig, Barbie will leave “Barbieland” and enter the real world to discover the truth about herself. Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie Prime and Ryan Gosling as Ken Prime, the film already has millions hyped. This has only been exacerbated by the efforts of social media and the Barbie marketing team. From the official marketing team, there has been a wave of themed products and related merch. There was also the reveal of a hot pink Barbie Dreamhouse that could be rented on Airbnb. Meanwhile, social media hyped a culture war between Barbie and Oppenheimer, which releases on the same day. Elsewhere, there was the viral moment in which fans discovered that a French translation of an official poster essentially read “she can do everything, he just fucks.”

However, one company that is unexpectedly benefitting from the Barbie hype is Pinterest. Founded in 2009, Pinterest was a quintessential part of early 2010s internet culture. It fitted in perfectly with the photo filter, Hot Topic nostalgia, justgirlythings, “aesthetic” cultural wave that also gave rise to things such as Tumblr’s popularity in the same era. If you were an “aesthetic” person, you likely had a Pinterest and you likely had a plethora of themed “moodboards”. However, Pinterest, despite being reportedly worth a $1 billion, has died off in recent years. Except, it hasn’t because while still just chugging away in the background, it has seen a massive spike in usage thanks to the Barbie movie.

Pinterest Flooded With Barbie Searches

Pinterest

Per TMZ, Pinterest has been flooded with searches related to Barbie. Compared to May 2022, May 2023 saw a host of searches spike. “Barbiecore” was up 980% while “Barbie Mood Board” was up 1280%. Elsewhere, “Barbie live-action” and “Barbie Margot Robbie” rose 1305% and 1630%. Finally, “hot pink chrome nails” rose 1465%. The world is getting on the Barbification train. “Dua Lipa Barbie” (the singer both has a song in the film and will play “Mermaid Barbie”) saw a 43-fold increase in searches. “Barbie adult birthday party” is up 12-fold.

However, Pinterest isn’t the only place where Barbie has taken a firm hold. While much more fickle in its searches, Tumblr has also seen Barbie trend several times over recent months. However, given Tumblr’s attention span, tastes, and long-standing culture war with “aesthetics”, the site has been much more about the memes than the visual styles of the film. Furthermore, the release of Netflix’s Nimona has aggressively taken over the site in recent days. Despite this, it’s clear that the impacts of Barbie are wide-reaching, even bringing things like Pinterest back into the spotlight.

Margot Robbie Asked Barbie Director Greta Gerwig to Consider “Barbie World” for Her Movie’s Soundtrack

“I was like, ‘Together? Are you joking?!’ I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds,” The Wolf of Wall Street actress said of her reaction to Spice and Minaj’s second collab. “I was like, ‘Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s “Barbie Girl.” It has to be in there.’ And [Greta] was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to find a cool way to incorporate it.’”

Margot Robbie’s Begging Helped Bring Nicki Minaj And Ice Spice’s ‘Barbie’ Movie Song To Life

Last week saw the release of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’sBarbie World,” a new take on Aqua’s classic “Barbie Girl” recorded for the Barbie movie. It turns out that fans have star Margot Robbie to thank in part for the song’s existence.

In a new feature about the music of the Barbie movie, Rolling Stone notes how outraged fans were when Aqua said last year that their song wouldn’t be in the movie. The publication continued, “Even though it wasn’t in the script, Gerwig’s plan all along was to find a place for it, especially since Robbie and others were begging for it.”

Margot Robbie said, “I was like, ‘Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ It has to be in there.’ And [Greta] was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to find a cool way to incorporate it.’ And then, when she was like, ‘Guess who’s going to do the remix of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.’ I was like, ‘Together? Are you joking?!’ I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds.”

Mark Ronson also made note how how natural a fit Minaj was for the song, saying, “I feel like people have been asking Nicki to rhyme over some version of ‘Barbie Girl’ for 15 years now.”

Ice Spice And Nicki Minaj Take A ’90s Classic To ‘Barbie World’ With Their Fiery New Collaboration

We are less than a month out from the movie event of the summer. In tandem with its in-theater premiere, Barbie will be accompanied by a star-studded soundtrack called Barbie: The Album. Tonight (June 23rd), Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice have shared the latest taste of the soundtrack with their sweet and spicy collaboration, “Barbie World.”

On “Barbie World,” Ice’s producer and frequent collaborator RiotUSA takes a sample of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” and gives it a Brooklyn drill update for the times. Minaj and Ice go back-to-back delivering bars, matching each other’s fiery energy.

“I’m bad like the Barbie / I’m a doll but I still wanna party / Pink ‘Vette like I’m ready to bend / I’m a ten, so I pull in a Ken / Jazzie, Stacie, Nicki / All of the Barbies is pretty / All of the Barbies is bad / It girls, and we ain’t playin’ tag,” the two rap line-by-line in the song’s chorus.

Nicki Minaj And Ice Spice Drop New Collab, “Barbie World”

Nicki Minaj recently took to Instagram to announce the release of her song “Barbie World.” The release is to help promote the new Barbie film and features none other than Ice Spice. Alongside a promotional image of herself and Ice, Nicki wrote a caption to announce the release. “It’s BARBIE B!CH If you still in DOUBT,” she wrote. “#BarbieWorld JUNE 23rd… PRE-SAVE NOW!!!!” This announcement comes just days after Minaj revealed that her next album will drop on October 10. Furthermore, Minaj shared a snippet from the end of the Barbie trailer featuring the original Aqua song. This hinted that the Aqua sample is part of her own release, as well. With the snippets that followed, that was confirmed.

This collaboration between Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice marks their second joint project in recent months. They previously teamed up for the remix of Ice’s “Princess Diana.” The song was a smash, particularly for Ice Spice. The track reached #4 on the Billboard 100 and topped the Billboard Rap charts. As of now, the remix has spent seven weeks on the charts and currently holds the #48 position. It has also generated immense interest in Ice Spice from the general public. With their new single, the pair look to repeat that same success.

Nicki And Ice Spice Are Far From Plastic On New Single

Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice really are a match made in heaven. In the song “Barbie World,” Ice’s producer RiotUSA creatively samples Aqua’s “Barbie Girl.” However, he updates it and infuses it with a modern Brooklyn drill sound. This update gives the track a fresh and contemporary feel. Both Minaj and Ice showcase their impressive rap skills. They both deliver intense verses that complement each other’s passionate energy. It’s definitely a repeat of the energy they had on “Princess Diana.”

“I’m bad like the Barbie / I’m a doll but I still wanna party,” the pair rap on the chorus. “Pink ‘Vette like I’m ready to bend / I’m a ten, so I pull in a Ken.” With this being the second collaboration between Nicki and Ice, it’s clear the former has taken the latter under her wing. That means we can likely expect very big things from Ice Spice in the near future. What do you think of the duo’s second collab? Let us know in the comments below!

Nicki Minaj Allegedly Bit Saweetie’s Idea For “Barbie World” Track

Apparently the upcoming Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice collab “Barbie World,” for the upcoming Barbie movie, has a certain inspiration that they ripped off. However, that accusation is pretty contentious at the end of the day when you read into it. Still, writer and former rapper Problem, real name Jason Martin, claimed that the New York rapper took Saweetie’s idea to sample Aqua’s 1997 hit, “Barbie Girl.” Not only that, but Martin also alleged that they sent a track called “Icy World” with a slightly different version of the beat to the Barbie team to be used in the movie. Furthermore, he took to both Twitter and Instagram Live to voice his frustration with this alleged biting.

“As a writer on this, I can confirm this song and idea was sent to her last year to submit for the Barbie movie,” Martin wrote on Twitter. “It’s sad to see that the original artist has been pushed off a song that was her idea and was meant for both of them. I have no side in this, but I will be compensated.” While it seems he’s seeking writing credit and nothing more, it’s odd to say he’s not taking a “side.”

Nicki Minaj Accused Of Biting Saweetie’s Barbie Song Idea

“If or when I need to detail the whole way it went down in regards to this Barbie shit, you will understand why all writers need to be compensated with day rates and contracts protecting their intellectual properties the day of,” Jason Martin continued. “Hopefully this gets sorted out quietly. But please no I don’t scare easy.” Regardless, the artist formerly known as Problem also hit up fans live on Instagram to share his thoughts. In it, he reiterated that he doesn’t want to start beef, just get paid for writing the song concept.

Jason Martin Continues His Side Of The Story On Instagram Live

Meanwhile, this accusation is quite odd considering that Ice Spice and Saweetie linked up in the past. Also, is this really the first two instances of people wanting to sample the Barbie song? Things are quite unclear right now with all artists involved not responding as of writing this article. However, it’s hard to predict how it will pan out. PinkPantheress Embraces Her Inner Barbie On “Angel”

PinkPantheress, the It Girl of bedroom pop is back with a new song called “Angel.” The singer’s third new song of the year is also the third song released from the soundtrack to Greta Gerwhig’s upcoming Barbie movie. The track features production from frequent Lady Gaga collaborator BloodPop a follows many of the sonic motifs PinkPantheress has been flirting with for years. The combination of acoustic guitar and strings with a stable consistent beat gives it a vintage 2000s pop feel.

PinkPantheress is the third artist to officially drop her contribution to the Barbie movie following Dua Lipa and Karol G. The full soundtrack will drop alongside the film next month. The list of stars lining the soundtrack is a who’s who of recent stars from a number of genres. Recent breakout stars like Fifty Fifty and GAYLE line up alongside superstars like Khalid and Lizzo. For many, the most anticipated new song comes from Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. The pair are linking up for the second time this year and sampling AQUA’s classic song “Barbie Girl.”

PinkPantheress Gets Angelic

Both of PinkPantheress’ previous singles have made big splashes in their own ways. Her collaboration with Ice Spice “Boys a liar Pt. 2” has been one of the biggest hit songs of 2023 so far. It was both artists’ first taste of the top 10 of the Hot 100, though Ice Spice was back a few months later with her “Princess Diana” remix. Her other new release “Way Back” sees her teaming up with EDM legend Skrillex and rapper Trippie Redd.

Those songs followed her Take Me Home EP which dropped late last year. The tracklist was short but contained a viral hit in the original “Boys a Liar.” She dropped her debut mixtape To Hell with It in 2021. It introduced many to her style of very short songwriting and lo-fi poppy production. “Angel” is her first new song this year that isn’t a collaborative effort. What do you think of the new PinkPantheress song and the entire Barbie soundtrack so far? Let us know in the comment section below.

Quotable Lyrics:
