Bad Bunny Won GLAAD Media’s 2023 Vanguard Award, Explaining His Mission To ‘Give And Receive Love’

The 34th annual GLAAD Media Awards was held in Beverly Hills, California on Thursday, March 30. Bad Bunny, Christina Aguilera, and Jeremy Pope were among those honored. Jennifer Coolidge even made a surprise appearance.

Is an awards show really an awards show if Bad Bunny isn’t there? It increasingly feels like the answer is no, and he was recognized at the GLAAD Awards for using his ubiquitous platform to uplift the LGBTQIA+ community.

The Puerto Rican megastar was presented the Vanguard Award by Ricky Martin, who praised Benito as “the most-streamed artist in history is loudly standing with trans women and the entire community” while letting “LGBTQ people dance, sing, love, and live lives authentically” (as relayed by The Hollywood Reporter).

THR also translated Bad Bunny’s acceptance speech from Spanish to English:

“I always say I don’t do anything expecting an award. I don’t do music for an award, I don’t do videos, my appearance [for an award]. I do everything because of how I feel and that’s all I have done. I believe that following my heart has led me to where I am, following my heart has brought me here receiving this award, surrounded by such beautiful people. I believe that when you have a good heart and you give love, that’s what you receive back, and that’s what I’ve wanted to do all this time with my music, with what I represent, with my space, with my concerts, with my shows, with all I do. That’s all I want to do. Give and receive love.”

Aguilera was given GLAAD’s Advocate For Change Award, and Pope received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award. When the honorees were revealed in early February, Variety reported that Aguilera has “helped raise over $500 million toward HIV research with MAC cosmetics,” and GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis explained why Bad Bunny deserved to be this year’s Vanguard recipient.

“Bad Bunny uses his role as one of the world’s most popular music artists to boldly shine a light on LGBTQ people and issues, including transgender equality and ending violence against trans women of color,” Ellis said. “By consistently advocating for our community, elevating our stories, and demanding action from anti-LGBTQ leaders, Bad Bunny redefines the positive influence Latin music artists can have within the LGBTQ community, and has set an example for all artists.”

Previous GLAAD Vanguard recipients include Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Cher, and Janet Jackson.

Bad Bunny & Kendall Jenner’s Latest Date Night Saw Them “Openly Kissing”

At this point, it seems as though the only two people not talking about Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny’s rumoured relationship are the famous pair themselves. For several weeks now, the Latin rapper and the dark-haired beauty have been tearing up Los Angeles, dining at the city’s finest restaurants, making out at nightclubs, and attending some of the year’s biggest parties. While they don’t often show up to events together, cameras have caught them leaving in the same vehicle several times, suggesting that they’ve been enjoying after-parties away from the eyes of other stars.

Though neither figure has publicly addressed the gossip surrounding them, the headlines regarding their date nights prove that things are only continuing to heat up. According to Us Weekly, Wednesday (March 29) evening was full of PDA during Jenner and her new beau’s dinner at Sushi Fumi in LA. As they were enjoying their food, sources tell the outlet that the alleged couple was “being very affectionate” with each other.

Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner’s Romance Continues to Heat Up

Just a few days before, the 29-year-old and his supermodel date were trying to lay low while leaving West Hollywood’s Bird Streets Club. In comedic paparazzi photos, Jenner can be seen attempting to shield her face from the cameras, while Bad Bunny turns his profile to the side, using one hand to hide as well. Despite their best efforts, everyone with an internet connection and social media is aware of their coupledom, regardless of their own apparent denial.

It remains unclear exactly how serious Kendall Jenner’s latest romance is, though it’s obviously legitimate enough for her ex, Devin Booker to unfollow her on Instagram. Shortly after the NBA athlete took that step, Bad Bunny clapped back in defence of the 27-year-old by name-dropping her former boyfriend in his first feature of 2023. Bad Bunny Stood By Throwing A Fan’s Phone After She Approached Like She Was Going To ‘Rob’ Him

There’s no denying that Bad Bunny is one of the biggest music stars in the world. But, like all human beings, Benito simply asks that you respect his privacy. A fan of his learned this the hard way this past January, when she came up to meet him, and then proceeded to record a video of them walking together. In a viral clip, Bad Bunny was seen throwing the fan’s phone into a nearby body of water.

In a new interview with Time shared today (March 28), Bad Bunny stood by his choice, noting that he was uncomfortable by the fan’s approach.

“If you’re coming up like you’re going to rob me, then yes, it’ll bother me,” he said. “Why do you want a picture with me? Because I’m the Statue Of Liberty?”

Over the course of his career, Bad Bunny has dominated the charts with reggaeton music — never having released a song in English. Elsewhere in the interview, he revealed that he didn’t care much to learn more English until recently. However, he noted that he would only record and put out a song in English when the time’s right.

“The day I feel like I need to do a song in English, ” he said, “I’ll do it because I feel it.”

Bad Bunny Is Being Sued By His Ex For $40 Million For Using Her Voice Without Permission On ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’

Bad Bunny, baby.” Those words have appeared on a pair of the Puerto Rican singer’s songs, spoken by ex-girlfriend Carliz De La Cruz Hernández. And now, she wants $40 million for the ad-lib, saying that Bad Bunny (who is soon to headline Coachella) used her voice recording without permission. According to the Associated Press, De La Cruz has filed a lawsuit in Puerto Rico over the vocal tag, which appears on “Pa Ti” as well as “Dos Mil 16.”

In addition to the royalties she believes are due, De La Cruz also wants recompense for harassment from Bad Bunny fans. According to her lawsuit, “thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about the ‘Bad Bunny, baby.’ This has caused and currently causes, De La Cruz [to feel] worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed, and anxious.”

De La Cruz recorded the clip in 2015 while she was dating Bad Bunny at his request; she says she was also in charge of scheduling his parties and handling invoices and contracts. However, when she was accepted into law school and he was signed, they broke off their relationship. In 2022, representatives of Bad Bunny’s label, Rimas Entertainment, contacted De La Cruz to offer her $2,000 to buy the recording of her voice, but an agreement was never reached.

Obviously, Bad Bunny’s had no small amount of success since then, and with De La Cruz’s voice contributing to part of that, she wants a share.

Bad Bunny’s Ex-Girlfriend Hits Him With $40M Lawsuit For Non-Consensually Using Her Voice Memo In His Music

Bad Bunny’s ongoing romance with Kendall Jenner has been heating up the headlines for weeks now, but an old flame has unfortunately returned to cause him some trouble. Carliz de la Cruz Hernández doesn’t seem to be interfering with the rapper’s love life. Still, she is dead set on getting money after her ex non-consensually used an audio clip she previously sent him in various songs. Pitchfork reviewed the new lawsuit, first reported on by NotiCel, reporting that the alleged victim is seeking $40 million in compensation as a result of her property’s usage.

The sound bite in question finds Hernández breathily saying, “Bad Bunny, baby.” It appears in both 2016’s “Pa Ti,” and the more recent “Dos Mil 16” from Un Verano Sin Ti. “Thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about ‘Bad Bunny, baby.’ This has caused, and currently causes, de la Cruz to feel worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed and anxious,” a rough translation of the Puerto Rican lawsuit reads. Aside from suing her ex, the plaintiff is also going after Rimas Entertainment and Noah Kamil Assad Byrne, the foreign artist’s manager.

Bad Bunny’s Non-Consensual Voice Memo Usage

Things have obviously turned sour between them now, but Bunny and Hernández were together from 2011 until 2017. They attended the University of Puerto Rico together in 2012, and at the time, he was reportedly writing songs – many of which he sought his girlfriend’s input on. Aside from sharing her thoughts, the 29-year-old also allegedly took on the responsibility of handling invoices, overseeing contracts, and scheduling events and performances for her beau.

According to the plaintiff, one of Benito Ocasio’s representatives got in contact last May, seeking her permission to use her voice memo. At the time, Hernández refused a $2,000 offer, instead asking to discuss a contract for licensing her voice. She later met up with the representative to hear the song it would appear on and ultimately refused, saying she felt uncomfortable moving forward. Regardless, Bunny and his team moved forward with releasing the track on his latest album, which has since received plenty of praise from fans.

Bad Bunny’s Former Lover Comes for His Millions

“Since de la Cruz made it clear that she did not consent to its use, its publication constituted an act of gross negligence, bad faith, and, worse still, an attack on their privacy, morals, and dignity since all parties had and still have knowledge of these facts and even so decided to be reckless and break the law,” Hernández’s lawsuit states. “Likewise, the publication of the song ‘Dos Mil 16’ without the consent of Carliz was carried out intentionally, in bad faith and for profit.” Do you think that Bad Bunny’s ex deserves his millions? Bad Bunny Seemingly Disses Devin Booker On “Coco Chanel” Single, Athlete Responds

For quite some time, the main man in Kendall Jenner’s love life was NBA player Devin Booker. The model and her man’s on-again-off-again antics left many confused, and they eventually called it quits for good late last year. After embracing the single life for a few months, KJ has been getting cozy with a new lover as of late – Bad Bunny – and he appears to have dissed her ex on his latest guest verse.

As Complex reports, this weekend saw the arrival of the Latin rapper’s appearance on Eladio Carrión’s “Coco Chanel.” Once listeners had a chance to translate the lyrics from Spanish to English, it became obvious that he’s not afraid of Jenner’s dating history. “I’m not bad baby, that’s a gimmick / The Sun in [Puerto Rico] heats up more than the one in Phoenix,” his bars translate out to, seemingly shading Booker’s basketball team, the Phoenix Suns.

Bad Bunny Appears to Throw Shade on “Coco Chanel”

In the same verse, Bunny raps about “dangerous” Scorpios, which makes sense considering his rumoured new girl was born on November 3rd. “Las de escorpio son peligro, lo dijo Mela y Rukmini, ey / Una demon, la monté en el Rolls-Royce y le puse YOVNGCHIMI,” he spits in Spanish. “Yo no soy malo, nah, bebé, eso e’ un gimmick / Pero el sol de PR calienta má’ que el de Phoenix.”

While it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Bunny intended to hurt Booker with his words, the athlete is certainly taking them personally. “He worried about another MAN again,” the 26-year-old wrote in a blog’s Instagram comment section after getting word of the gossip. As you may recall, he previously unfollowed Jenner on Instagram as rumours of her budding romance with the Bullet Train actor began circulating online.

Devin Booker Responds

We’re still currently awaiting official confirmation of a relationship between Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner, though many have already taken their frequent hangouts to mean that they’re dating. Most recently, the pair left an Oscars after-party together in the same car, and they’ve been photographed kissing while out on the town grabbing sushi. Eladio Carrión Tells Us About His Star-Studded Album ‘3MEN2 KBRN’ And Collaborating With Lil Wayne

The RX is Uproxx Music’s stamp of approval for the best albums, songs, and music stories throughout the year. Inclusion in this category is the highest distinction we can bestow, and signals the most important music being released throughout the year. The RX is the music you need, right now.

Eladio Carrión is ready to make Latin trap global with his new album 3MEN2 KBRN. After solidifying himself as one Latin music’s leading rappers, he proves that his knockout flow can hold up alongside the icons of American hip-hop. Carrión’s latest LP includes features from Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Migos’ Quavo, and Future.

Carrión has set himself apart from other Latin rappers thanks to his bicultural influences. He grew up living his life between the states and Puerto Rico. Throughout his career, Carrión has teamed up with Latin superstars like J Balvin, Rauw Alejandro, Arcángel, Bizarrap, and Karol G. He broke through in 2019 thanks to Latin Grammy-nominated hit “Kemba Walker” featuring Bad Bunny.

Like his Walker tribute, Carrión continues to salute sports superstars who inspire him like with the fierce “Mbappé” remix featuring Future. He also teams up once again with Bad Bunny in the swaggering “Coco Chanel.” 3MEN2 KBRN is Carrión unleashing his full force as a Latin trap star alongside his idols and close friends.

“As a kid, growing up, listening to these artists, and now collaborating with them, it’s a dream!” Carrión says about his album’s all-star ensemble.

In April, Carrión will be performing at both weekends of Coachella. That will lead up to his Sauce USA Tour, which kicks off in May. Over Zoom, Carrión caught up with Uproxx about his latest LP, the mind-blowing collaborations, and hitting the road in our latest Q&A.

What was the experience like to blend the Latin and English rap worlds on your album 3MEN2 KBRN?

I just keep trying to build that bridge between Latin and American culture because I’ve been influenced so much by American hip-hop, but you know I do Latin music. It’s just that: making that connection stronger.

How did the “Gladiador” remix with Lil Wayne come together?

Bro, I manifested the sh*t out of that. Ever since I made the track, I always said, “I’m going to drop it, but if Wayne wants to hop on it, I’m doing the ‘Gladiador’ remix any time he wants to jump on.” Thank God, he got on it for the album. It was perfect.

What did you think when Lil Wayne was down to team up with you?

That’s my favorite rapper! He’s the reason why I go hard on this so much with my punchlines. He’s the reason why I’m picky with my bars. “Gladiador” is one of my favorite intros that I’ve done in my life. Just having him on that song specifically and knowing that it was meant for him and that he liked it. That he heard it and said, “Oh sh*t!” It’s a very big thing for me. He was amazing!

What was the experience like to work with Future on the “Mbappé” remix?

We met in Miami. We linked up over there. We talked for awhile. I had to go back in the studio to do my stuff and that’s when he killed it in his studio and recorded it. And we did the video the next day. It was dope! We closed out [Bad Bunny’s restaurant] Gekkō. There were a lot of people there. It was super cool.

What did you think when 50 Cent decided to feature on the song “Si Salimos”?

I couldn’t even believe it! 50 doesn’t record with anyone. He’s on his producer vibe right now. For him to take time out of his day to really kill that track — because he killed it — it means the world to me.

After years of grinding in the music industry, how do you feel to have an album with your idols on it?

That’s where you have to keep on grinding. That’s where the grinding gets harder. I’m just ready for more work. I’m going to keep on upping the bar.

What was the experience like to reunite with Bad Bunny for the song “Coco Chanel”?

It was cool! I went to LA. We met up. We were locked in for a couple of days. It was just cool to keep up with him because he’s a very busy person. I’m very busy too. To have a couple of days to sit down to talk and just make music, it was super dope to put something out with him again.

By having Quavo and Rich The Kid with yourself and Ñengo Flow on “Peso A Peso,” you’re definitely bringing the worlds of Latin and English rap together.

I think that’s one of the songs that people are going to most like because beat-wise and just how Quavo killed it too. He spoke Spanish. Rich spoke Spanish too. Ñengo killed it! I think that’s going to be one of the easiest songs for both the Latin side and American side to digest because the beat sounds kind of Latin and trap. It’s going to be one of the biggest hits of the album.

How do you feel to be performing at Coachella this year?

I feel amazing! For them to consider me, to go there off of Latin hip-hop, it’s a big thing. People who usually go there are more like pop singers. Just to be like an underground artist, to go there, it’s amazing.

What can we expect from your performances at Coachella and your upcoming US tour?

A lot of me sweating [and] jumping around. Maybe jumping into the crowd. Having people jump into the crowd. Just mosh pits. Just trap sh*t. A crazy light show. I always give it my all. My fans don’t expect me to do less, so I got to bring my A-game every day.

Bad Bunny is one of the headliners at Coachella this year. Is there a chance that we could see you two on the stage together?

Hey, you never know in Coachella! You never know.

What do you want to accomplish next?

Just get better at everything I do. Keep on practicing my art. Keep on going to the studio. Keep on writing songs and focus on tours to give my fans a good show.
