Freddie Gibbs Announces “Pinata” 10 Year Anniversary Shows

2024 will see a number of influential and celebrated rap albums celebrating their 10th birthday. J. Cole’s 2014 Forrest Hills Drive, Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron, and Azealia Banks’ Broke With Expensive Taste all slicked with mainstream rap fans in 2014 while projects like Killer Mike and EL-P’s Run The Jewels 2, and Clipping’s CLPPNG stunned the underground. Somewhere in the middle is Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s landmark first collaborative project Pinata.

The 17-track collaborative album was met with massive critical acclaim when it dropped. Madlib’s nostalgic, sample-heavy instrumentals were praised as the perfect palette for hard-hitting bars from Freddie and his collaborators. Speaking of collaborators the album sports some spectacular features. Danny Brown, Raekwon, Earl Sweatshirt, Scarface, Domo Genesis, Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Polyester The Saint, Casey Veggies, Meechy Darko, Big Time Watts, G-Wiz, Sulaiman, and Mac Miller all appear on the record. The pair teamed up for a second collaboration called Bandana in 2019. They also released an absolutely massive deluxe edition of Pinata back in 2021. But now they have entirely different plans for the album’s 10th anniversary.

Pete Rock On What Ruined Hip-Hop: “We Lost Our Integrity Chasing The Money”

Pete Rock, the pioneering producer, recently shared his thoughts on the current state of Hip Hop culture. He echoed sentiments expressed by Erick Sermon about the industry’s evolution. In an Instagram post on Wednesday (January 3), the 53-year-old New Yorker emphasized his belief that the art form has veered off its original path. Moreover, he believes that it’s been entangled with greed and losing touch with its roots. Sharing an interview clip of Erick Sermon discussing the unrecognizable state of Hip Hop, Pete Rock captioned the post, “They should change the music to WTF [facepalm emoji] tryna create a narrative that aint working.” He expressed frustration at the perceived stagnation of the genre, stating that it is “stuck in one place.”

In a critique, Pete Rock asserted, “We created real history! idk what da hell they creating today but it damn sure ain’t history or hip hop thats a fact.” His words reflect a nostalgic longing for the authenticity. Furthermore, he wants there to be historical significance that he believes characterized the earlier days of Hip Hop. The veteran producer further went into his concerns about the current state of the culture. Moreover, he pointed out that the pursuit of financial gain has compromised the integrity of the art. He stated, “We lost our integrity chasing the money. The bag as they say has become the problem and the focus point in the culture. Makes it corny when y’all make it about money smh [corn emoji].”

Pete Rock Expresses Frustration

Moreover, his rant didn’t stop there. Expressing frustration with the sensitivity surrounding opinions in the industry, Pete Rock noted, “Everyone extra sensitive about opinions smh. Soon as you have an opinion you’re a hater automatically lol. Clown shit [clown emoji].” This observation speaks to the challenges artists face in expressing genuine perspectives without facing backlash. However, in an environment where opinions are often met with heightened sensitivity. Earlier this year, Pete Rock also weighed in on the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. He was arguing for the inclusion of Heavy D being properly recognized.

In a call for positive change, Pete Rock encouraged fellow artists, saying, “We all out here working to make better music. Why don’t you try and do the same thing.” The message reflects a desire for a collective effort to elevate the quality and substance of the music, moving away from a culture fixated on financial pursuits. Donald Trump Announces Rally On Anniversary Of January 6 Capitol Attack

Donald Trump recently announced plans to hold a “commit to caucus” rally in Iowa next month. The kicker is that the event will take place on the third anniversary of the U.S. Capitol riot, which saw hundreds of his supporters storm the building. The attack resulted in countless arrests, several injuries, multiple deaths, and more.

While the timing of the event appears to be intentional, the Chairman of Iowa’s republican party Thad Nearmyer insists that it’s merely a coincidence. “When they first announced it was on Jan. 6, I didn’t even think anything of it,” he told The Daily Beast earlier this week. “And then a little bit later it kind of occurred to me that that date has some significance. “

“I would imagine that will get brought up by him,” Nearmyer added. While the event stands out as the deadliest since the War of 1812, he downplayed it in his conversation with the outlet, claiming “It wasn’t nearly as big of a deal as it was made out to be.” News of Trump’s January 6, 2024 rally comes after Maine’s Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, announced that the disgraced former president has been removed from the state’s Presidential primary ballot. Bellows cited a 14th Amendment clause that prevents “insurrectionists” from running for President.

Colorado tried to do something similar earlier this month, but he’s now back on the ballot after the state’s republican party appealed the decision. What do you think of Donald Trump holding a rally on the third anniversary of the January 6 U.S. Capitol attack? The LP marks his fifth effort and some of his more underrated material on it. It was released on this day 23 years ago. Today, we wanted to shed light on a funny but also serious West Coast groove from it. “Lay Low” saw Snoop assemble a tremendous cast of artists and producers for a rowdy banger.

Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love” Turns 10

For Beyonce, 2023 has been a non-stop party, and she’s not done celebrating quite yet. Her RENAISSANCE World Tour only made the BeyHive adore their queen more. Those who didn’t catch the big show in person were able to see the Houston native in theatres this fall. Today (December 17) is another important date for Queen B – the tenth anniversary of her “Drunk In Love” single, one of the most popular tracks to come from her self-titled album.

It marks yet another collaboration between her and Jay-Z (following releases like “03′ Bonnie & Clyde,” “Family Feud,” and The Carters album, just to name a few). For her part, Bey lets her freak flag fly all through her verse. “I’ve been drinkin’, I’ve been drinkin’ / I get filthy when that liquor get into me,” she sultrily sings over her own production, with help from Detail and The Order. “I’ve been thinkin’, I’ve been thinkin’ / Why can’t I keep my fingers off it?” the mother of three ponders before later passing the mic off to her husband.

“Because the Internet” Turns 10: Revisit Childish Gambino’s “The Worst Guys” Featuring Chance The Rapper

We’ve seen many different eras of Donald Glover throughout his career as an actor and artist, but arguably one of the best came during his Because the Internet album release. The 19-track project came out on this day (December 10) a decade ago, with guest appearances from Jhene Aiko, Azealia Banks, and Chance The Rapper on “The Worst Guys,” marking their third collaborative effort. It comes after Acid Rap‘s “Favorite Song” and another Childish Gambino cut, “They Don’t Like Me,” and remains in rotation for fans of both lyricists to this day.

Though the Chicago native doesn’t get to flex his lyrical chops on “The Worst Guys,” he does let his vocals shine on the hook with his longtime friend. His contribution may seem minor, but The Rapper’s unique voice helps create contrast between Glover’s always-impressive wordplay. “Tia and Tamera in my bed, I’m a smart guy / I ain’t f**king with you ni**as like apartheid,” the Swarm creator rhymes on the first verse. “Hits on my list, check my archive.”

Celebrate a Decade of Because the Internet with “The Worst Guys” Music Video

Since his 2013 LP, Gambino has slowed down musically, though his discography remains strong. 2014 brought forth his Kauai album, and after that came a distinct shift in sound on “Awaken, My Love!” in 2016. From there, the Atlanta actor delivered 3.15.20 ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, and he appears on the soundtrack for his Beyonce-inspired Amazon Prime series.

Take yourself back a decade in time by watching Childish Gambino and Chance the Rapper make magic in the Because the Internet visual above. Aaron Carter’s Son Visits His Grave On One-Year Anniversary Of His Death

Aaron Carter tragically passed away a year ago, and his loved ones did a lot to honor his legacy and name since then. It’s an ongoing process of grief whose wounds heal in time, but for a close partner, friend, family member, or father memory is always preserved and celebrated. Moreover, the singer’s family stopped by his grave site on Sunday (November 5), which marked the exact one-year anniversary of his loss. His ex-fiancée Melanie Martin took their son Prince to his headstone at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, and TMZ reports that Aaron’s twin sister Angel greeted them there.

In addition, the outlet relayed source reports that various of Aaron Carter’s fans and those sympathetic to his passing also went to the grave site. There, they privately or communally paid their respects, whether by simply attending or leaving behind candles, flowers, and the like. For those unaware, he was found dead in his California home, and passed away due to drowning under the influence. It was a shock to his fans and family, and prompted much conversation about his career trajectory and life up until that point.

Back to his family, though, TMZ alleged that Aaron Carter’s son Prince counted all the 20 candles left by fans during this visit. Also, Melanie reportedly stuck around until the cemetery closed in order to spend a private moment at her late ex-fiancée’s grave. Unfortunately, this tragic event caused a rift between her and the artist’s manager, who she claims “overworked” him and led to the stress that he sought to escape. While this is still purely speculative, it’s a dark and sad conflict during a time where many of his close ones feel a lot of pain.

Meanwhile, the family recently installed a new headstone at the grave site. “[We placed] Aaron’s portrait this morning at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills,” Angel wrote. “He adored his fans, and I know how much this would mean to him now having a final resting place where we could all celebrate his life. I invite you to visit, share your memories, and never forget who Aaron was deep down.” For more news and updates, stay logged into HNHH.
Rest In Peace Aaron Carter.
