Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj Bodied “Mercy” On “Dedication 4”

There’s no doubt that Lil Wayne is one of the greatest MCs to ever spit into a microphone. He may not be at the peak of his powers anymore; however, his influence and tons of classic projects make him an irreplaceable figure in the genre’s history. He did most of his dominating throughout the 2000s and into the mid 2010s, which is obviously another reason why he’s so highly regarded. Making this longevity all the more impressive is how often he was dropping. On top of streaming platforms, mixtape sites such as DatPiff were just another area where Weezy ran things. The Louisiana native was able to do this with his Dedication series, perhaps most notably.

Across the now six installments in this fan-favorite series, he gave his best stuff to tons of popular beats across hip-hop. Dedication 4 saw Lil Wayne attack “Mercy” by Kanye West, a mid-2010’s club banger that still hits today. Working with Wayne on this interpolation is none other than Nicki Minaj, one of his closest pals and collaborators. Obviously with this track officially turning 12 today, we know how it goes. But this track still wows us all these years later thanks to their show-stopping flows and hilarious bars/double entendres. Relive Lil Wayne’s “remix” of “Mercy” with the link below.

Future’s “Thought It Was A Drought” Remains A Top-Tier Metro Boomin Collab 9 Years Later

Dirty soda, Spike Lee / White girl, Ice T / Fully loaded AP, yeah“. These lyrics are synonymous with Future’s “I Thought It Was a Drought”. Woozy and intoxicating, the intro to his third album is one of the most iconic trap rap songs, period. The same can be said for the 13-song set. It perfectly kicks off the druggy and lean-filled trip that Future is about to send you on. This LP was released right around the time that he broke through into superstardom and it further solidified his chemistry with Metro Boomin. The latter was also considered a bubbling talent waiting to explode and when this track and project released, it was game over from there.

Post DS2, the Southern hip-hop/trap tandem is still producing top-notch material in these subgenres. That is even with all of the newcomers who have tried to recapture their magic in some shape or form. In fact, they are still in the upper echelon this year after giving fans a two-fer with WE DON’T TRUST YOU and WE STILL DON’T TRUST TOU. Speaking of which, those projects have some incredible Future and Metro works. But for us, “Thought It Was a Drought” manages to stand stall amongst the trees. The thick kicks, blistering hi-hats, and ghoulish tones looming the back are instantly recognizable. Future’s cool demeanor while rapping about drugs, sex, and the traditional trap fare instantly transport you to his world.

ScHoolboy Q Holds “Groovy Tony / Eddie Kane” In High Regard & We See Why: Revisiting It Eight Years Later

The aggressive nature of gangsta rap and hardcore hip-hop is something that ScHoolboy Q embodies. Of course, growing up in California helps, as he was around that style of genre growing up. Over the course of his frankly underrated career, Q has not just copied and pasted these subsets for the modern fan. He has truly formed a unique approach since getting his feet wet in the music industry over a decade ago. His third studio album Oxymoron saw him take that West Coast sound and make it slightly more accessible for fans with songs like “Collard Greens” and Studio”. But ScHoolboy Q’s now eight-year-old project Blank Face LP took a more innovative step, and “Groovy Tony / Eddie Kane” is a prime example of his creative genius.

While the instrumental on the previous album single did/does not turn reinvent the wheel per se, it still absolutely bangs. The eerie whispers of “Blank Face” play really nicely with the ghostly tones, dirty drums, and Q’s animated flows. If you remember, the single version was just the “Groovy Tony” side and there was no feature. While the track did not necessarily require the latter to succeed, the addition of Jadakiss was pure genius. His trademark cadence fits snuggly without ruining the momentum. On the “Eddie Kane” half, the raspy and soulful singing from Dem Jointz, along with the even darker production take things to another level. ScHoolboy Q views this song as one his favorites from Blank Face LP and so do we without a doubt.

So f*** you, Mr. Teacher, ’cause the paper, I ace it
Lead tried to erase it, but I’m still standing
They mad and everything, nothin’ given, I’ma take it first

Gangbangin’, dope slangin’, GTA-in’

Drake Celebrates Eight Years Of “Views” Via Instagram Walk Down Memory Lane

Someone who creates a bountiful amount of hype surrounding every release is Drake. Perhaps hip-hop’s greatest pop star, the Canadian hitmaker’s albums and their rollouts are an event. Even when one of his projects are viewed as mediocre, the buzz around them is massive. One of those albums that was not and is still not liked by critics in particular is Views. The main critique around his seventh offering is that it is too inconsistent overall and bloated. Regardless, a lot of fans have this album high on the list amongst the rest of his decorated discography. To recognize all of the love Drake got for Views, he decided to celebrate the album’s anniversary.

The Boy showed love to his now eight-year-old LP via an Instagram walk down memory lane. Drizzy captioned the 10-picture photo dump with, “Views April 29.” He shared images of early promotional content, as well as random images from the winter in Toronto in which he recorded the album. Fans in the comments section were reminiscing about how this album has impacted them since its release eight years ago today.

“Top 2 not 2… this album changed the game,” one fan boldly claims. “ICONIC TIME. CLASSIC. 🏆🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🏆,” writes another. Even Drake feels this is top-tier stuff. HipHopDX dug up old quotes from him speaking about how elite of a job he did with Views. “This album is probably my highest level of vocal performance,” he told Zane Lowe. That belief seemed to ring true for fans at the time, because this is still his best-performing album in terms of first week sales by quite a fair margin.

What are your thoughts on Drake celebrating his album Views on its eight-year anniversary on Instagram? Is this his greatest body of work, why or why not? If not, where does it rank in his discography? What songs do you revisit the most from this project and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Drake. Snoop Dogg Mixed Comedy With Gangsta Rap On 2000 Hit “Lay Low” Featuring Master P, Nate Dogg, And More

Snoop Dogg’s legacy is firmly cemented within hip-hop lore. He has iconic albums, is one of the best entrepreneurs, and is highly respected amongst his peers, past and present. With so many records under his belt, some are going to get lost in the shuffle. One of which is 2000’s Tha Last Meal.

The LP marks his fifth effort and some of his more underrated material on it. It was released on this day 23 years ago. Today, we wanted to shed light on a funny but also serious West Coast groove from it. “Lay Low” saw Snoop assemble a tremendous cast of artists and producers for a rowdy banger.

It features the likes of legends Master P, Nate Dogg, as well as Butch Cassidy and Tha Eastsidaz. Additionally, Dr. Dre is in the mix behind the board and on the mic. The beat has that familiar West Coast/G-funk style that hits heavy. Revisit the track with the link above.

Cardi B Claps Back At Fans Who Claim She Shaded Offset With Her Anniversary Post

Cardi B and Offset are one of the biggest power couples in all of hip-hop. Unfortunately, this makes them the target of fans who like to overthink everything. Moreover, people develop parasocial relationships with them, which, in turn, makes them think they can speak to them on a personal level. Overall, it is a very bizarre phenomenon that is definitely unique to the current social media era. Thankfully, Cardi is good at dealing with people who try and get involved in her life.

A perfect example of this went down last night as Cardi thanked Offset for his incredible anniversary gift. “Thank you sooo much baby,” Cardi began. “Thank you for the flowers, the empowerment, the protection and for being a great father to our children… I love so many things about you.I love the fact that I’m with a grown ass man that’s going to provide , protect and help both of us GROW and can handle my mouth ,my attitude,my confidence my weakness and all this ASS!! MY FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE thing about you is that you study me and always pay attention to what I’m into From my favorite colors, my favorite brands to MY FAVORITE foods… I love that you into details like me because it’s always the lil things that make me smile or even drive me off the wall. Happy anniversary to US.”

Cardi B Celebrates Offset

Despite this sweet message, one fan claimed that Cardi was acting miserable and throwing shade. Cardi was genuinely confused by this and said, “I’m really confused. I got to reread again… How am I throwing shade?” Subsequently, someone came in and said that Cardi throws shots and then goes into the comments to play the victim when people call her out. Again, she was very confused by all of this and let that confusion be known. Essentially, she wanted answers on what she said, but no one was giving her those answers.

The Clap Back

All of this is yet another example of how people do not let Cardi B breathe. She was just existing on Instagram, and now, people are questioning her relationship. It is all very bizarre. Let us know what you think of the behavior of her commenters, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from around the music world.
