Anita Baker’s 7 Biggest Hits

As far as ballads and love songs go, not many artists have a chokehold over the world quite like Anita Baker. A legend in the quiet storm subgenre, Baker’s music is classified by slow-burning songs that often hit a mind-blowing climax. With her piercing vocals, she arrested generations of R&B and Soul listeners including artists like Lil Wayne. What’s more impressive is that Anita Baker continues to perform her hits to this day.

Speaking of performances though, Anita Baker seemed to have pissed off some aunties. The icon was scheduled to perform at a pre-Mother’s Day Concert at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on Sunday, May 11. Unfortunately, about six minutes before she was supposed to come on, the show was canceled. As one can expect, the mothers weren’t having any of it. However, since Baker has yet to acknowledge the ordeal, fans have rallied around her, especially since we don’t know what’s wrong. After all, Anita Baker has blessed us with several hits over the course of her career, including the following seven.

7. “Just Because”

While Rapture set Anita Baker on a pedestal, Giving You the Best That I Got made her untouchable. “Just Because” is a beautiful song that brilliantly shows off her impressive vocal ability. It also stamps her name into the books of the best vocalists of all time. It’s no surprise that “Just Because” has become a wedding staple for couples all around the world.

6. “You Bring Me Joy”

Interestingly, “You Bring Me Joy” was never released as a single. Nonetheless, in any discussion of Anita Baker’s hits, this honorable mention is always met with praise. Despite not charting, “You Bring Me Joy” has continued to melt hearts well into the 2020s. It’s the true definition of a timeless classic, especially as the material speaks for itself. Baker still performs this song religiously, and any attendee at her shows knows that this ballad is sure to bring the house down every single time. After all, who wouldn’t want to hear her sing, “You’re the finest thing I’ve seen in all my life”?

5.  “Same Ole Love (365 Days A Year)”

Building on Rapture’s success in 1986, Anita Baker released “Same Ole Love” in 1987. It’s one of the more uptempo songs in her discography, but the emotional components of her career are still present. “Same Ole Love (365 Days A Year)” is simply a confessional song, aimed at one’s lover. With the ever-changing world, Baker sings about retaining the wonderful from her partner no matter what. Better yet, she desires this love everyday of the year. What could be more romantic?

4. “No One In The World”

Another one of many hits on Anita Baker’s Rapture is “No One In The World.” The final single off the album is a percussion-assisted love song. It’s haunting, mesmerizing, and Baker’s yearning is felt in her voice. The track was previously released by Dionne Warwick, but Baker’s version was a fuller, more intimate one. It features what is arguably Baker’s most captivating climax, as she makes her claim known over and over again.

3. “Caught Up In The Rapture”

Easily one of Anita Baker’s hits, “Caught Up In The Rapture” is a timeless classic. Starting off with the haunting melody, the quiet storm is like a warm hug on a cold day. Baker’s voice is sultry and smooth, and you can hear every word she’s saying. The second single off her lauded album Rapture, this track is Baker at her finest. It may not have topped the charts, but it’s arguably her most recognizable song.

2. “Giving You The Best That I Got”

If it’s one thing Anita Baker’s hits do, it’s make you feel like the only person in the room. With a deep understanding of musicality, Baker’s voice and lyricism leave any listener feeling warm inside. “Giving You the Best That I Got” was released in 1988 to widespread acclaim. Like most of Anita Baker’s hits, this Grammy-winning song has stood the test of time. Notably, Michael Jordan used to taunt his opponents by singing this song. With assuring lyrics like “I bet everything on my wedding ring,” you really felt as if Baker was deeply in love with you.

1.  “Sweet Love”

Anita Baker’s first of many major hits was “Sweet Love.” Honestly, it doesn’t get better than this song for fans of the icon. Baker’s voice is perfection, and the climactic bridge is spellbinding. The track won the Grammy for Best R&B Song in 1987, and remains one of the most memorable songs of the 80s. It’s not an Anita Baker performance is “Sweet Love” isn’t performed, and you can bet the crowd is bopping along with her.

“You’ve already done it,” Baker now added, giving some love to Monét’s 2023 hit. “‘How Does It Feel’ is a melodic masterpiece. Congratulations on all your well deserved nominations & accolades & keeping R&B in your world/your generation.”

After getting the reply, Monét expressed her love for Baker right back.

“This is such an honor and a dream come true!!!” she responded. “My gratitude for you and your art has always been immense and now to speak to you through mine feels so golden!!

“I love you to the stars and I thank you for these flowers! I’m in awe. Hope to hug you soon,” Monét added.

Lil Wayne Listens To This Classic Artist To Calm Him Down Before Shows

Even though Lil Wayne has an incredible career behind him, and a path forward that hasn’t finished, he still gets nervous before performances. Of course, this is natural and normal for people to experience, and you’d be correct in assuming he has a way to handle these reservations. However, you might be taken aback by what Tunechi- who is still releasing great new music– needs to cure his stomachaches and anxieties. Moreover, he revealed as such while speaking with boxer Terrence Crawford on his Apple Music show, Young Money Radio. Unsurprisingly, what keeps Weezy in check and confident is exactly what he does that gets him so jittery: music.

“I put on Anita Baker,” Lil Wayne surprisingly expressed, naming the classic soul legend as the only artist whose work can get him out of that nervous zone. Perhaps you expected a hip-hop companion or some other musician, but there’s nothing like some Rapture. “She take the pain away. I told her to her face too, and she said I’m not the first person to tell her that. I looked [at her] dead in the eyes and told her, ‘I get a very strong stomach ache and I’ve been getting it since day one. Before I go on stage, there’s nothing that works but you.’

Lil Wayne Thanks Anita Baker For Helping Him With Pre-Show Nerves: Watch

“‘I just put it on shuffle,” Lil Wayne continued. “Don’t matter what the song is. When your voice come through, my stomach ache go away.’ She goes, ‘You not the first person to tell me that.’ I go, ‘See, you know I ain’t lying, then.’ She’s a beautiful hell of a woman.” This is praise that plenty of other artists have for the New Orleans legend, including fellow Louisiana icon Master P.

Meanwhile, the No Ceilings MC doesn’t let his nerves get in the way of amazing concert appearances. For example, he recently blew The Game’s mind with a guest freestyle while onstage at a recent Fugees concert. Just goes to show that anxiety can always be overcome, and that Anita Baker is really that woman. For more news and the latest updates on Lil Wayne, come back to HNHH.

Babyface Breaks Silence On Anita Baker “Feud”

R&B singer-songwriters Babyface and Anita Baker have alleged beef. After being unceremoniously cut from Baker’s Songstress tour, Babyface went on the Jason Lee Show to clear the air. The tour, which is celebrating the 40-year anniversary of Anita Baker’s debut album, had Babyface as an opening act. However, due to multiple issues, Baker thought it necessary to cut him from the show.

According to Babyface, one of his last appearances in the show was rife with technical difficulties. From Baker’s point of view, he constantly went over his allotted time, causing her to start very late. In Newark, NJ, technical failures shortened the show, leading to the decision to give the remaining time to Anita. Fans of the male musician reportedly cyberbullied Baker, upset about his limited stage time. Combine outraged fans with an opening act going beyond his time, and it was enough for Baker to pull the plug.

Despite his fans being overtly critical of Baker, making her out to be a villain, Babyface seems unfazed about it all. “First of all, I have no problem being a support act for Anita Baker,” he says in a video clip of the Jason Lee Show. “I have that much love and respect for her art.” He also clarifies that it was always her show and that it was never a co-headliner situation. The full interview dropped on Revolt TV yesterday, so we can get more insight into what he thinks about his fans cyberbullying Baker and what he’s going to do with his newly found free time.

Babyface is an R&B icon with over 40 years of music output. He released an album in 2022, Girls Night Out, his first one in seven years. As for Anita Baker, she’s still busy after all these years. In addition to the Songstress Tour, she performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at this year’s NFC East Championship Game for the 2022 NFL Playoffs. Rolling Stone has Baker ranked number 92 on their list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time.

Babyface Responded To Anita Baker Kicking Him Off Her Tour After She Faced ‘Cyberbullying’ And ‘Threats Of Violence’ From His Fans

Anita Baker and Babyface have been on tour together recently, but there’s been tension. Back in May, a show was delayed, so Baker apparently asked Babyface to not perform his set. He said at the time, “I am truly sorry to my fans who have been waiting for us to hit the stage this evening at the Prudential Center. I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms. Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety. My band and I are extremely saddened we didn’t get to perform for y’all tonight.”

Things have soured since then, to the point that Baker has dropped Babyface from the tour.

In an announcement tweet shared yesterday (June 13), she wrote, “After Silently, Enduring Cyber Bulling/Verbal Abuse & Threats of Violence from the Fan Base, of Our Special Guest[heart emoji]/Support Act. In the Interest of Personal Safety. I will continue, The Songstress Tour, alone. Appropriate refunds will be made.”

Babyface has since offered a response, saying in a statement shared with ET, “I am saddened by the news that Anita Baker has decided to remove me from The Songstress Tour. It’s unfortunate and disheartening to see how things have played out via social media. While I was looking forward to the rest of the dates, I have nothing but love & respect for Anita and I wish her the best for the remainder of her tour.”

Anita Baker Removes Babyface From Tour After His Fanbase Bullies Her Online

Anita Baker has removed Babyface from her ongoing tour accusing his fanbase of cyberbullying. The drama began when Babyface’s performance at her show on May 10 at the Prudential Center was cut after technical issues pushed the start time. In the time since, fans of the legendary musician have been criticizing Baker on social media. Baker says that she’s made the decision to remove Babyface from the tour out of consideration for her own safety.

“After Silently, Enduring Cyber Bulling/Verbal Abuse & Threats of Violence from the Fan Base, of Our Special Guest/Support Act. In the Interest of Personal Safety. I will continue, The Songstress Tour, alone. Appropriate refunds will be made. Blessings,” Baker announced on Twitter, Tuesday.

Later, Baker called on Babyface to speak up for her. “When A friend, is being attacked, by Your friends?… because, of Mis-information/fake news And, You have an Opportunity, to Say Something/Correct it? … It’s A Nice, thing. … It’s the Right thing to do. Reputation, Peace & Safety Matters,” she tweeted. “Cyber Bullies, will not Silence me. I will continue to Speak!” she wrote in another post on the site.

Anita Baker Apparently Asked Babyface Not To Perform His Opening Set In New Jersey, Which Left Many Fans Upset

Concertgoers are having a tough time this year. Last month, Morgan Wallen fans were sitting at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi waiting for him to perform after all the openers went on. Then, he ended up canceling the show. At an Anita Baker concert in Newark, New Jersey left attendees similarly upset last night (May 10).

The audience waited two hours and were told it was due to a technical glitch. Babyface did not perform at all. However, he took to Instagram to share that it was because Baker apparently didn’t want him to.

“I am truly sorry to my fans who have been waiting for us to hit the stage this evening at the Prudential Center,” he wrote. “I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms. Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety. My band and I are extremely saddened we didn’t get to perform for y’all tonight.”

Fans are expressing their disappointment in Baker on social media, but she’s yet to comment on the situation.

In 2021, Baker made headlines for regaining control over her masters after her previous label refused to return them and then being praised by Taylor Swift for it.
