Two Florida women are the biggest rappers in the game right now. Tonight (March 29), Doechii teamed up with JT of City Girls for “Alter Ego,” their instantly intoxicating new collaboration.
The song features a prominent sample of “Show Me Love” by Robin S., and Doechii rides the beat with ease. Showcasing her versatility, Doechii offers mind-blowing examples of her quick-witted bars and her catchy screaming chorus.
JT pops in with a verse that feels timely, as she is currently on a solo tour. Rumors have also been going around that the future of City Girls is uncertain. But amid all the gossip, JT remains “unfazed, unbothered, and unf*ckwithable.”
Doechii and JT first teased the collaboration in a conversation with Interview Magazine. JT admitted that rapping over this type of beat and creating a dance floor record was a new challenge for her, but she’s proud of how the song turned out.
“[W]hen you sent me the record, girl, I was like, ‘What the f*ck? She think I can make a song like this?’ But thank you for challenging me,” JT said. “I’m very hesitant when I make music. I’m a perfectionist. I want that sh*t to sound good when I send it back.”

One of her most popular alternative titles is Tina Snow, a name which she shares with her 10-track 2018 EP. Meg’s favorite rapper of all time, Pimp C, is the origin of the nickname, which many fans may not know. In fact, her admiration for the “Int’l Players Anthem” rapper significantly influences much of the Houston native’s sound and style, highlighting Pimp C’s impact on the genre today. Before his untimely death in 2007, Pimp C utilized a number of monikers in his music, just like Megan Thee Stallion. His inventive use of the title Tony Snow ultimately inspired Meg to gender-swap the nickname to Tina Snow for her own use. Throughout Pimp C’s discography, he commonly referred to himself as Tony Snow, often using the nickname as an alter ego to refer to the habit of selling cocaine, or “snow.” The motif of selling cocaine also doubles as a metaphor for pushing “dope” music to the masses.
The first name Tony was likely chosen due to a number of popular crime figures throughout both true history and fiction, including Tony Montana and Tony Soprano. As Tony Snow, Pimp C would approach the mic with a cool, laid-back style which inspired Megan from a young age. Once the “Hiss” rapper began pursuing music as a career path, she knew she needed to pay homage to her favorite performer, taking on her own iteration of the Tony Snow name.
Megan Gender-Flipped The Nickname To Inspire Other Women
During interviews, Megan Thee Stallion has explained that she picked up the alter ego of Tina Snow both to pay homage to Pimp C and also to inspire other femcees to rap with the cool confident swag often reserved for upper-echelon rappers. Being that she hails from Houston, the same hometown as the legendary UGK rapper, Megan felt that it was her place to carry the torch left behind by Pimp C and inspire a new generation of forward-thinking hip-hop listeners.
When rapping under the title Tina Snow, Megan Thee Stallion delivers more aggressive and street-wise lyrics in a smooth, laid-back gangster flow. While the character of “Megan” may prioritize higher academic learning and getting good grades, Tina Snow is solely focused on hustling and getting money. Meg even appeared as the character Tina Snow in a 2022 episode of the Starz series P-Valley.
Megan Has Several Other Nicknames And Alter Egos As Well
In addition to her Tina Snow moniker, Megan Thee Stallion has also formed several other nicknames throughout her years behind the mic. Moreover, they recently took to their Instagram Story to stand by the new identity and to defend their new look and style. Of course, the Philly icon is always one to subvert, change their flow, and make headlines for their art in all of its facets.
“Chow understand people always don’t like ways of Chow,” Lil Uzi Vert posted on their Instagram Stories on Wednesday night (April 19). Furthermore, that confirms that Leslie is a reference to Leslie Chow, a character in the film The Hangover portrayed by Ken Jeong. It’s an unsurprisingly eccentric point of inspiration that’s as tongue-in-cheek as it is challenging. “But Chow don’t give af Chow rich and never look back ….. Suck my monkey tail LESLIE OUT.” It was a succinct and quick response, which actually differs from the more thoughtful and elaborate reflections Uzi offered on topics like sobriety.
Regardless of their new namesake, many in the industry clowned Lil Uzi Vert for the announcement, whether lightly or insensitively. For example, Nicki Minaj suggested that they looked like her in the “Bedrock” music video, which is a light and generally harmless jab. However, people took more issue with people like Karlae responding in the comments on Uzi’s post with laughing emojis. Even though that seems harmless as well, it’s a fine line to walk when other bigoted people have an issue with this new identity. As such, many felt like this was an indication of people not taking Uzi seriously.

Their hair is obviously emo-inspired, and their outfit of choice hints at the impending arrival of the long-awaited Pink Tape project, which LUV has been working on for some time now.
Later in their photo dump, Lil Uzi showed photos of Leslie enjoying their time by the beach. With a mask covering the lower half of their face and a drastically altered appearance, many fans couldn’t help but poke fun at the Philly native’s post in the comments. “N*gga looking like somebody emo auntie,” one troll wrote. “Uzi looking like [they] just joined Panic! at the Disco,” another quipped. “I thought that was someone’s grandmother,” someone else chimed in, obviously expressing their disdain for the alter ego.
Regardless of what haters have to say, the 27-year-old has always been known to march to the beat of their own drum.
