ASAP Rocky Confirms “Don’t Be Dumb” Leaks Were Removed From Album

ASAP Rocky has been in the lab since 2018. The last time he had an album out, Drake has lot a rap battle to Pusha T. That’s an eternity in music terms. The rapper has had to contend with multiple song leaks as a result. Listeners have been sifting through demos and snippets for Don’t Be Dumb longer than they’ve known the title of Rocky’s album. Now that the release date is in sight, though, ASAP Rocky has made it clear that anything leaked prior to the Don’t Be Dumb release will not make the final tracklist.

Rocky addressed the leak problem during a recent appearance on New Music Daily with Zane Lowe. The rapper was promoting his new single, “HIGHJACK,” but the interview turned into a broader teaser for the accompanying album. Lowe asked whether about the album’s evolution, and ASAP Rocky drew a direct correlation between leaks and the need to record new material. “Most of the songs that I be performing and sh*t like that,” he noted. “Motherf*ckers leak it. And once it’s leaked, it’s just like, nah, it’s not on the project.” Lowe asserted that a song loses context once its released to the public, and the rapper agreed. He did, however, note that he has a soft spot for several of the songs that have leaked. “I might perform [them] here and there,” he conceded. “But if it’s leaked, it is what it is.”

ASAP Rocky Has Been Plagued By Leaks For Years

This isn’t the first time ASAP Rocky has blamed the album’s delay on leaks. In May, the Harlem rapper claimed that the amount of material circulating online has made it difficult for him to put together a solid body of work. “Dummies need to stop leaking,” he asserted. “Every time, it’s back to the drawing board.” In Rocky’s defense, there have been a lot of leaks. A quick glance at the Genius page for Don’t Be Dumb reveals over a dozen songs with stacked guest features. “GO!” featuring Playboi Carti was previewed by Rocky back in April 2022. It leaked in December. “Sights” was another Playboi Carti collaboration teased in September of that year. The leak of this track, however, led to a spat with Playboi Carti’s Opium crew.

Opiumbaby accused ASAP Rocky of leaking the song on Twitter. He called the rapper out for ruining what could have been a hit single. “F*ck Rocky, he played,” Opiumbaby wrote. “F*ck that ASAP sh*t. Allat leaking sh*t.” The affiliate then lamented the money that was spent on the song. “That sh*t cost,” he claimed. “That’s not even yo song. It’s our sh*t. Could’ve been on all platforms.” It’s ironic that ASAP Rocky be attacked for an issue he’s complained about for years, but that’s the internet in a nutshell. We are excited to see what ends up making the final Don’t Be Dumb tracklist.

Big Sean Drops Official Release Date For New Album Despite Leak

Bad week for Big Sean. The rapper decided to address his haters on a new freestyle, and wound get getting his album leaked as a result. A Kanye West fan interpreted Sean’s bars as a diss towards his favorite artist, and leaked most of Big Sean’s new tracks out of spite. The rapper has taken the leaks in stride, though. A day after the unfortunate incident, Sean dropped an official trailer for his new album, titled Better Me Than You. Fans were treated to cool visuals, a snippet of a song, and finally, a proper release date.

The album trailer sees the camera zoom in on Big Sean’s eye, only to reveal a world of color and trippy shapes. The instrumental that accompanies these visuals is similarly colorful, though the rapper isn’t spitting over it. The album’s official title is confirmed by a neon sign that appears at the very end of the trailer. Better Me Than You had been thrown around as a possible title previously. That being said, the aforementioned leak was released under the name Feelings and Random Thots. It’s safe to say Sean chose the better title. The rapper confirmed the release on Twitter, writing: “album August 9th.”

Big Sean’s Better Me Than You Will Drop August 9th

Big Sean spoke at length about the difficulty he had recording Better Me Than You. It’s his first album in four years, and it coincided with his decision to stop drinking. “I’ve been having a hard f*cking time,” he told fans via Instagram Live. Been in [the studio] trying to finish this album. I’m tired of overthinking… I stopped drinking in 2022 ’cause that sh*t was f*cking me up.” Despite the struggles he’s had, Big Sean maintains that the new album contains some of his “best music” to date. “It’s so many different sides of me,” he told viewers. “[This album] really represents what the f*ck I’ve been going through for these past couple of years.”

The leak could not have been easy for the rapper to deal with. The person who leaked the album claimed that Kanye West urged him to do it, but there’s nothing to substantiate these claims. Despite this display of pettiness, Big Sean is keeping a positive outlook. The internet is on his side, with many believing that he’s due to win after being overshadowed by the likes of Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The rapper actually addressed the leaks on Twitter, taking a light-hearted approach. He teased his upcoming single with The Alchemist, and joked about rushing the rollout to avoid more leaks. “Might as well start droppin, before they leak it all, got damn [crying-laughing emoji].”

Big Sean’s Album Leaked And The Internet Genuinely Feels Bad For Him

Big Sean and Kanye West used to be a dynamic duo. The former was the golden boy of GOOD Music. Kanye West spoke incredibly high of the rapper, and featured him on several classic singles. Then, the rub came off, and the two men parted ways. Big Sean claimed that West owed him $6 million and his masters. West, meanwhile, claimed that he regretted signing Sean to GOOD Music in the first place. It was all very ugly and unpredictable, like most West beefs are. Things really took a turn for the worse on July 17, though.

Big Sean dropped a freestyle with disses thought to be aimed at West. Less than 24 hours later, a hacker claiming to be working for West leaked Sean’s upcoming album. “F*ck him and his team,” they wrote. A few people questions the validity of the album, but the hacker responded by claiming “Ye told me to leak it.” There’s nothing to confirm this claim, but it does raise some troubling questions about West and Sean and their current dynamic. The rap world has never seen an album get leaked out of spite before, but if the hacker is to be taken at his word, that’s what happened here.

Fans Feel Bad For Big Sean’s Continued Struggles

Unsurprisingly, social media has had a field day with this claim. Fans are shocked that West would stoop so low, and if the rapper didn’t know about the leak, then they are equally shocked by the fact that one of his stans would ruin Big Sean’s rollout. Some Twitter users voiced sympathy for Sean, as he constantly gets overshadowed by his peers. “Big Sean can never win lol,” they opined. “N**gah started his promo run and his album leaks 24 hrs later.” Another user pointed out that Sean’s lead single, “Precision,” was drowned out by the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef. “Kendrick and Drake stepped on his single and then he diss Kanye,” they tweeted. “[Then] one of his fans leak his album n**ga can’t win.”

Big Sean’s New Album Leaked By Kanye West Stan After Alleged Diss

Big Sean has really dominated the news cycle over the last 24 hours. The rapper dropped an On the Radar freestyle on July 16, which seemed harmless enough. Then fans started picking apart the bars, and theorizing that Sean could be targeting another rapper. Kendrick Lamar’s name was brought up, then debunked. Then Kanye West was mentioned, after DJHed claimed Sean was targeting a Gemini rapper. The possibility of a West diss proved to be enough to disrupt Big Sean’s entire album rollout.

Only July 17, a user named bigseandon811 posted an album’s worth of new material from Big Sean. Along with the file was a message clarifying why they chose to stomp on the rapper’s rollout. To the surprise of no one, it was Kanye West related. “Since he wanna disrespect Ye so much, here’s the album,” the user wrote. “F*ck him and his whole team.” Other users questioned whether the audio recordings were legit, but bigseandon811 provided some additional information. They clarified that “Precision,” Sean’s lead single, was on the album but not in the leaked files.

Big Sean’s Leaker Claims Ye Gave His Blessing

To further strengthen the case for the leak being real, the user listed some of Big Sean’s features. “This was the album as of couple months ago,” they explained. “Features Nas, Dream, Jhene and some other people.” They even provided an alternative album titled: Better Me Than You. The files and the message was taken down, but not before several fans downloaded the album for themselves. Bigseandon811 also claimed that West was the one who urged him to leak the album. It’s brutal retaliation if true, given that Kanye West was the one who ruined his relationship Big Sean in the first place.

West went on Drink Champs in 2021 and claimed that signing Sean to GOOD Music was the “worst thing” he’s ever done. Big Sean took the criticism in stride, but later told that he was deeply hurt by what West said. “At first, I thought it was hilarious. I thought the sh*t was funny,” he said during his own Drink Champs appearance. “Then I took it [personally].” It got worse from there. He told the hosts that West owed him $6 million, as well as ownership of his masters. The leak, while not orchestrated by Ye himself, is not going to help smooth things over.
