Adidas Shareholders’ Class-Action Lawsuit Against The Brand Centered Around Kanye West Was Reportedly Dismissed

Kanye West’s (Ye) business relationship with Adidas formally ended back in 2022. However, their split (due to antisemitic comments by Ye) continue to impact both entities.

For Adidas, the brand found itself in an intense legal battle with shareholder HRSA-ILA Funds. But their class-action lawsuit has supposedly come to an end. According to AllHipHop, on August 16, a judge dismissed the suit, stating that Adidas could not be held responsible for Ye’s comments.

“Certainly, that Ye allegedly engaged in such behavior while working with adidas is troubling,” said Judge Karin J. Immergut. “This Court does not condone what Ye allegedly did. But the question before this Court is not whether to admonish Ye or hold Adidas morally accountable for Ye’s conduct.”

In court documents, the entity accused Adidas of misleading investors through its fiscal year 2018-2021 risk disclosure comments in its annual statements; its diversity, equity and inclusion statements; and in the European Union’s Non-Financial Reporting Directive and the independent Global Reporting Initiative’s sustainability framework.

But Immergut argued that opposite. “This Court is faced with a precise legal question: has [HRSA-ILA Funds] sufficiently pleaded facts showing that Adidas misled investors and thereby committed federal securities fraud,” she said. “On the current record before this Court, the answer is no.”

HRSA-ILA Funds also claimed Adidas “was aware of the volatile potential of its partnership with Kanye West.” But proceeded anyway without alerting investors of “Ye’s increasingly erratic behavior,” which supposedly led to “artificially inflated stock prices”.

Contrarily, the judge made reference to a 2020 Business Partner Risk disclosure shared with investors that acknowledged potential fallout from unethical behavior by business partners such as Ye. Within the document, measures to “manage such risks” by way of contract clauses (to suspend or terminate partnerships) were clearly outlined.

Although this is a major victory for the brand, reports of the revenue loss and heaps of unsold merchandisee will surely make it difficult for anyone to celebrate. On the other hand, Ye has seemed to reposition himself. At the 2024 Super Bowl, Ye secured a commercial slot to advertise the Yeezy brand on what appeared to be a website operated by his team.

Adidas Wins Class Action Lawsuit Involving Kanye West’s Antisemitic Comments & More

It appears that Adidas is coming out with a pretty major win in court. According to an exclusive piece from AllHipHop, the sneaker and apparel giant is avoiding potentially hefty lawsuit from company investors. This legal battle has been going on for over a year now and it stems Adidas not voicing the internal concerns about Kanye West to the public. The HRSA-ILA were the ones responsible for filing the suit and they felt that the German shoe company was specifically keeping Ye’s conduct under wraps from 2013-2018. Overall, Adidas won this lawsuit thanks to there not be enough solid evidence “showing misleading statements that could have swayed investor choices”.

“Certainly, that Ye allegedly engaged in such behavior while working with adidas is troubling. This Court does not condone what Ye allegedly did. But the question before this Court is not whether to admonish Ye or hold Adidas morally accountable for Ye’s conduct”, Judge Karin J. Immergut said. Later, she went on to question, “This Court is faced with a precise legal question: has [HRSA-ILA Funds] sufficiently pleaded facts showing that Adidas misled investors and thereby committed federal securities fraud? On the current record before this Court, the answer is no”.

Adidas Survives A Huge Lawsuit

The HRSA-ILA was a firm believer that Adidas knew about how ugly this partnership could have gone with Kanye West since 2013. If you remember, there were some truly odd and outlandish things that Ye did early on in his tenure with the three stripes. That included the Georgia MC having executives watch adult films at his Manhattan apartment and him drawing a sw***ka on a shoe during a meeting in Germany. Of course, things then spiraled further when he went on his various anti-Semitic rants in the 2020s.

What are your thoughts on Adidas winning its class action lawsuit involving Kanye West’s volatile behavior? Is this a surprising outcome to you, why or why not? Kanye West Blasts Adidas On “Vultures 2”

Today, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign surprised fans by dropping their new album, Vultures 2. Supporters had been waiting on the project for months and were less hopeful than ever after the August 2 release date came and went. Luckily, they didn’t have to wait too much longer, and can now enjoy the project in full.

So far, the second installment of Vultures has received mixed reactions. While many are impressed, others are urging Ye to hurry up on his previously announced retirement. With that being said, listeners are still hard at work dissecting each and every track, including “My Soul.”

Kanye West Says “F*ck Adidas” On New Track “My Soul”

The song is the last on the album and features a jab at Adidas, which cut ties with Ye back in 2022 amid his infamous antisemitism scandal. “We mass targeted, mass marketed, mass incarceration
Mass in police stations, mass incorporated, f*ck Adidas,” he spits. While the remark certainly hit hard, listeners aren’t necessarily shocked, as this is far from the first time he put the company on blast.

Earlier this year, for example, he went after Adidas, Drake, and more in a fiery Instagram rant. “F*ck Adidas and everybody who works there or with them. Anyone who goes to school with anyone who’s parents work at Adidas. Just know they tried to destroy me and here we are with the number 1 song in the world,” he said at the time. Obviously, there’s still some bad blood there, and it doesn’t look like Ye will be forgetting about it anytime soon. What do you think of Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s new album Vultures 2? What about Ye slamming Adidas on his track “My Soul”? What’s your favorite song on the project so far? Adidas Apologizes For Bella Hadid Munich Olympics Sneaker Ad

Screenshot 2024 07 18 at 10.33.19 PM

Sneaker giant Adidas is in the Jewish hot seat after an advertising campaign featuring Palestinian model Bella Hadid for which the company apologized for what has been seen as anti-Semitic.

The problem with the ad is that the campaign is for a retro 1972 Munich Olympics sneaker, the same Olympics where 12 Israeli athletes were taken hostage and later murdered by their captors. Hadid has been an outspoken critic of the State of Israel and the war in Gaza, so her appearance in the ad commemorating the Munich Olympics caused an uproar at the American Jewish Committee.

The AJC slammed Adidas for what its “egregious error,” saying, “For Adidas to pick a vocal anti-Israel model to recall this dark Olympics is either a massive oversight or intentionally inflammatory. Neither is acceptable.”

Adidas quickly issued an apology, saying, “We are conscious that connections have been made to tragic historical events, though these are completely unintentional and we apologize for any upset or distress caused. As a result we are revising the remainder of the campaign.”
