42 Dugg Marks The Deluxe Release Of ‘Free Dem Boyz’ With The High-Speed ‘Bestfriends’ Video

Building on the success of his breakout mixtape Free Dem Boyz, Detroit rapper and XXL Freshman 42 Dugg maintained his momentum with a deluxe edition re-release of Free Dem Boyz last week, adding seven new songs including features from Lil Durk, Moneybagg Yo, and Nardo Wick while shuffling some of the sequencing to make for a smoother ride.

Today, Dugg marked the release of the deluxe edition by sharing the high-speed video for one of the album’s original standout tracks, “Bestfriends.” Directed by DrewFilmedIt, the video captures an exuberant Dugg as he shops for jewelry, puts the pedal to the metal in his brand-new cars, and holds court at a neighborhood gathering, enjoying the attention of his community and the fruits of his newfound success.

Free Dem Boyz, which debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 in May after its release on May 21, gave Dugg his first top-10 placement on the albums chart behind hyperactive singles like “4 Da Gang” featuring Roddy Ricch and “Maybach” featuring Future and the continued support of post-release singles such as “Turnest N**** In The City” and “Rose Gold” featuring EST Gee, 42 Dugg’s fellow breakout star and compatriot on Yo Gotti’s CMG record label. Dugg is also headed on tour — more information for that is available here.

42 Dugg And EST Gee Flex Like Their Lives Depend On It In The Lustrous ‘Rose Gold’ Video

At this point, it feels like you know what you’re getting with a video from Yo Gotti’s CMG camp. There will be cars, jewelry, stacks of cash, and perhaps most importantly, squads of scantily clad women twerking for the street-bred rappers signed to the label. When there are multiple CMG rappers involved, as there are in 42 Dugg‘s “Rose Gold” video featuring EST Gee, these trappings will be doubled to account for the additional rap star’s benefit.

Dugg and Gee do what they do best on the song, flexing their hard-won block credentials and the fruits of their success — both in the rap game and their “extracurricular” activities. The two rising stars do have undeniable chemistry together, which fits as both were hand-picked by Yo Gotti as the future of trap-inspired street rap. The two Midwestern spitters do similar things but in vastly different ways, with Dugg’s slippery flow reflecting the loose relationship between beat and rap cadence characteristic of rap artists from his hometown, Detroit, and EST Gee’s choppier approach evoking his fellow Louisvillians’ more precise attack.

“Rose Gold” is one of the 23 original tracks on Dugg’s latest mixtape, Free Dem Boyz, which is out now on CMG and Lil Baby’s 4PF label, along with “4 Da Gang,” “Maybach,” and “Turnest N**** In The City.”

Est Gee’s ‘5500 Degree’ Video Is A Massive Flex Featuring Lil Baby, 42 Dugg And Rylo

Steadily dropping new singles all summer, rising Louisville rapper Est Gee has been on a run lately with track like “Riata Dada,” “Price Tag,” and “Capitol 1,” all of which appeared on his Bigger Than Life Or Death project from last month. That album also cracked the Billboard 200 chart, hitting No. 7, and dith momentum like that, all anyone would expect Est Gee to do is keep dropping new music. Today, that’s exactly what he’s done — although, if he’s going to be meeting up with Jay Z to put in work at the studio, he better come alone.

His latest single “5500 Degrees” is a study in the art of the posse cut, with Lil Baby, 42 Dugg, and Rylo all joining in. The video is a massive flex with stacks of cash everywhere, lots of fancy cars, diamond encrusted chains, and all the rappers partying together, celebrating their abundance. The track is a clever update of Juvenile’s 1998 classic “400 Degreez,” and is just another example of how ’90s nostalgia is finding its way into hip-hop and the pop mainstream of late. All the rappers deliver on their verses, but Lil Baby’s final, rapid-fire effort is definitely worth sticking around for. Watch the video above and look out for more new music from Est Gee coming soon.

42 Dugg Issues An Apology For His Homophobic Rant

On Friday, 42 Dugg shared what he felt was an affectionate video featuring him and his son. In it, the rapper can be seen kissing and licking his son around the neck and shoulder area, an act that many deemed inappropriate for the child. He later caught wind of the negative reaction and slammed critics with a homophobic response.

“Quit tryna shove that sh*t down n****s throats,” he wrote. “Ah gay n**** ah be on national tv tonguing down another h*e ass n****, but that’s ok though. Y’all or no motherfucker on earth ain’t finna make me like sh*t ion like and if y’all don’t like me f*ck y’all get wit me. Keep my son out y’all mouth flat out.”

A day after he posted this response, 42 Dugg returned with an apology for the insensitive statement.

It never be my intentions to offend anybody even when I’m offended so for that I am sorry. Usually I’m a very private person when it come to personal sh*t such as my son or my family in general people always tell me I need to take more pictures or you know let my fans see something about me other than music. Yesterday I called myself doing that. My son birthday was the weekend so I decided I would let y’all see how much fun we had. You know the picture/videos I posted of my son wasn’t put out for feedback. That was us being us. So for y’all to take that and make it what y’all did just reminded me of why I keep my family private. I will not be showing my son or any of my family on this s*it again. Y’all lost that privilege. This is for me to promote my music and that’s what I’m gone use it for. Nothing more nothing less.

42 Dugg Delivers A Homophobic Response To Those Who Took Issue With A Video Of Him And His Son

The last week saw a number of instances of homophobia in hip-hop world. The biggest example is DaBaby’s bizarre rant at Miami’s Rolling Loud festival, where he also targeted people with HIV/AIDS. He was torched for his comments, but some, like Boosie Badazz and T.I., chose to defend the rapper. Now, Detroit native 42 Dugg has joined the list of rappers who have recently shared homophobic comments.

The Detroit rapper’s bizarre rant comes after he shared a jittery video for “Turnest N**** In The City” and joined Flo Milli, Pooh Shiesty, and Rubi Rose for an XXL Freshman cypher.”

42 Dugg Is The ‘Turnest N**** In The City’ In His Jittery New Video

The Collective Music Group takeover continues with 42 Dugg’s “Turnest N**** In The City” video. Like other recent videos from Yo Gotti’s label like EST Gee’s “Price Tag” and Moneybagg Yo’s “Wockesha,” it features straightforward images of the rapper performing interspersed with computer effects like freeze frames, cutouts, and visual effects. Yo Gotti makes his customary cameos as well, while 42 Dugg shows off his money and jewelry on a yacht, surrounded by women.

42 Dugg is jointly signed to both Yo Gott’s CMG and Lil Baby’s 4PF after impressing both rappers with his 11241 Wayburn mixtape in 2018 and broke out in the mainstream after appearing on Lil Baby’s My Turn album on the songs “Grace” and “We Paid.” Earlier this year, he released his song “4 Da Gang” with Roddy Ricch, gaining even more momentum — momentum which culminated in his selection to the 2021 XXL Freshman List alongside fellow Michigan rapper DDG, Pooh Sheisty, and more. He further distinguished himself with his verse in the XXL Freshman Cypher, closing out a session including Flo Milli and Rubi Rose. The added exposure makes now the perfect time to turn up the promotion on his May mixtape, Free Dem Boyz, and build on the hard work that he’s put in — which is finally paying off.
