State of Emergency Declared as Wildfires Spread Across Los Angeles

Los Angeles County is engulfed in wildfires, with the largest blaze roaring through the Pacific Palisades. The result is tens of thousands of people under evacuation orders.

According to CNN, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expects the wildfire conditions to “worsen” throughout Wednesday (Jan. 8) morning. Gov. Gavin Newsome has declared a state of emergency in the area.

Scenes across the county highlight abandoned cars in between Malibu and Santa Monica, which were eventually bulldozed so emergency personnel could make it to combat the fire.

The Palisades fire is burning through areas comparable to five football fields a minute and has already scorched 2,9000 acres. The area is now under an emergency, comparing the winds to a “tornado.”

Fires are also present in the Hurst area, north of the San Fernando Valley, and another in Altadena, dubbed the Eaton fire, eviscerating 1,000 acres in hours.

Adding to the complication, over 200,000 homes and buildings do not have power.

Off-duty firefighters are being asked to report their availability to fight the fire. The call for assistance has not been conducted in this manner in two decades. Margaret Stewart, a spokesperson for the department, said, “I’ve got 19 years on and this is the first one that I’ve been involved in. It’s not something that we have to do very often.”

The origin of the fires was aided by a dry “rainy season,” designed explicitly as December through March. There has only been .01 of an inch of rain in LA since Dec. 1. The dry land and exceptionally high winds have assisted in fueling the fire.

Chloe Bailey Finally Addresses The Rampant Burna Boy Dating Rumors

Chloe Bailey and Burna Boy were looking like the next musical couple to take over 2025. Just about a week prior to the holidays, the older sister to Halle made her way out to Lagos, Nigeria. At the airport, she was supposedly greeted by some of the Afrobeats star’s team with a massive bouquet of flowers in hand. From there, his people drove her down to the “Bundle By Bundle” singer for the day ahead. Eventually, they made their way to what looked to be a downtown type of scene. Chloe was once again escorted, this time in Burna’s droptop Lamborghini.

Multiple videos and photos surfaced from their time at a night club where they shared some dances, held hands, etc. However, this wasn’t just a one-night affair. Just a day later more clips made their way onto social media at an open-air type of vibe. Chloe Bailey got a little more comfortable around Burna Boy, allowing herself to be wrapped in his arms as they soaked up the night’s events. However, since December 17, not much has been talked about in regard to their relationship status.

There was some slight drama with folks accusing Stefflon Don, an ex of Burna’s, of resurfacing an old video in which he gifted her a Rolls-Royce. Outside of that, Chloe and Burna have remained quiet for weeks. However, that is until she made her way onto The Breakfast Club for an interview. She’s one of a few hip-hop/hip-hop adjacent artists to be nominated at the NAACP Awards and because of this she will be in attendance.

That led to Loren Lorosa trying to get Chloe to spill the tea about Burna. She first started out by working it into a NAACP question asking, “Speaking of seeing, are you bringing a date to the NAACP Awards?” “My god mom and my manager,” Chloe slyly replied. “So we ain’t gonna see no more Burna Boy?” Lauren then asked back. “You’ll have to ask him,” the “Have Mercy” singer said. Lauren then pivoted to the escape to Nigeria, however, instead of answering any specifics of how if there was anything there with Burna, she talked about the food and the clubs and that she just “had a great time.” For anyone craving a direct answer, we are sorry to disappoint you.

clipping. Announces Their New Album, ‘Dead Channel Sky,’ With The Glitchy ‘Change The Channel’

It’s been kind of a while since Uproxx last covered new music from noise-rap clique clipping. Of course, since then, the group’s rapper, Daveed Diggs, has been fairly busy with his acting career, appearing in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid with Halle Bailey and the Golden Globe-winning indie film Nickel Boys, as well as a bunch of TV shows as a voice actor.

However, it appears the group is back; after releasing “Run It” and “Keep Pushing” last year, they’ve announced their new album today. Dead Channel Sky is inspired by the themes and sounds of the cyberpunk oeuvre, with today’s single, “Change The Channel,” exemplifying the project’s dedication to hard-hitting techno production. It’s a decided departure from their usual, industrial-sounding production, but no less high-concept and left-of-center for contemporary rap styles, but what remains consistent is Diggs’ dedication to proving that he can rap on anything. His labyrinthine rhyme construction sounds just as good here as on any of their prior stuff — and truth be told, the new sonic direction is probably as palatable for mainstream audiences as they’ve ever been. Think the soundtracks for the Blade movies and you’re in the ballpark.

Chris Blake Griffith Accused Of Faking Drake DMs Because Rapper Refused To “Expose” Stefon Diggs

Drake has been wrapped up in his fair share of drama as of late, and this week has certainly been no exception. Yesterday (January 7), Chris Blake Griffith took to Instagram to unveil screenshots of what appeared to be DMs he exchanged with Drake. In them, Drake seemingly addressed his legal dispute with Universal Music Group. “Me and Universal is like if Nike was funding a campaign about Lebron cheating on his wife,” one message read in part. “Not Adidas or Reebok… Nike the company he been with since he started. My situation is not no street sh*t.”

Shortly after Griffith posted this, however, DJ Akademiks hopped on X to set the record straight. “This is a fake DM,” he explained, claiming to have gotten this information from Drizzy himself. “Drake called buddy a Rat….. He got mad and made up some fake DM to try to make the blogs and go viral. End of story.” The DMs also referenced Griffith’s previous allegation that Stefon Diggs drugged and tried to sexually assault him.

DJ Akademiks Insists Drake DMs Are Fake

Griffith made these accusations on Instagram in October, also detailing his alleged elevator altercation with Diggs’ brother Darez AKA Marsean. “Weeks later after his failed sexual attempt on me (bc I don’t play like that and never have), Marsean realized that I was no longer affiliated w/ his half-brother, and because he’s broke,” he alleged at the time. “He saw a gap in what was once a strong relationship between his brother and I, and tried to rob my crib for my chrome hearts collection.”

“They gon run a narrative about theft to protect the fact that he drugged me and then triedddd to ‘TRY ME,’” he also alleged. “But unlike the fruitful thinker, I respectfully live my life as a 100% STRAIGHT MAN that doesn’t dabble in experimentation unlike him, but the truth needs no motivation — it’ll surface as need be. I produce receipts like a printer.” Akademiks TV shared footage of the shocking run-in on X today. The outlet also alleged that Griffith faked the Drake DMs because the Toronto rapper refused to help him “expose” Diggs. This remains unconfirmed.

Kanye West Is Still Upset With Adidas, Even After Their Settlement, And Called Them Out

Kanye West and Adidas have had a tumultuous relationship for the past couple years now, a relationship that officially dissolved in October 2024 when the two parties reached an out-of-court settlement. In a conference call at the time, Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden said, “There isn’t any more open issues. No one owes anybody anything anymore. So whatever was is history.”

Despite that, Ye is upset.

In a lengthy post shared on Instagram last night (January 7), West accused Adidas of attempting to bury his Yeezy brand in online search results, writing, “When you google Yeezy.com the adidas site comes before the Yeezy site Members at adidas Stop doing this Stop doing your moves to hold me back Our partnership is done You’re a 60 billion dollar company that froze my accounts Now I’m back on my feet (no pun intended) and I’m not going to stand for this (no pun again).”

He also called out designer Jerry Lorenzo, who recently signed a deal with Adidas, writing, “side note yall know Jerry was corny and disloyal for doing work with adidas after the way they handled things I still showed up to his show that was a copy of my Hollywood bowl show being the so called bigger man but I’m never doing that again for no one It’s Yeezy over everything.”

Joe Budden Explains How He Beat His Lewdness Case In Return To His Podcast

Things seems to be all hunky-dory for Joe Budden because he’s back at The Joe Budden Podcast studio this week. The New York native has been out of the office, so to speak, for about a week and a half thanks to his shocking lewdness charge. Reports of this wild revelation broke through on New Year’s Eve, however the actual incident took place back on December 4. It all went down at approximately 7:21 a.m. inside Joe Budden’s apartment building in Edgewater, New Jersey. The rapper turned podcaster was completely nude while trying to enter a neighbor’s room across the hall. The resident caught the entire thing on his Ring doorbell camera, and he was trying to punch in the code for the door.

However, after most likely realizing he wasn’t at the right place, he eventually made his way back. At various times throughout the podcast’s existence, Joe has mentioned his sleepwalking habits and that it was another possible instance that caused this to happen. Since he’s been out of his studio, he was sort of addressing the matter on social media and he became subject to a lot of jokes and also ridicule as well. Overall, he and his co-hosts were pretty nonchalant about it all and it seems that their confidence that this didn’t really mean much was apropos.

Joe Budden Is Back In Studio

Joe Budden was supposed to be going to court on January 16 to have this all taken care of. But for reasons unexplained in the clip above, his time having to appear in front of a judge is over. In his first episode back, he explained to his crew that everything went very smoothly and that his judge was “fair, reasonable, was attentive, [and] wasn’t on no bulls***.” Additionally, what helped Budden’s argument was how she broke down certain crimes by statutes such as stalking, which didn’t apply to him.

Lewdness was the main charge against him, though, and that has to deal with someone pleasuring themselves, if the person is erect, etc. This leads into what also helped Budden beat his case and that is the aforementioned video evidence. Instead of acting out like how the statute of lewdness describes, he says that it looked more like he had to use the bathroom than anything else. Budden also added that it was about a 10 second video of him trying to enter the code. After giving his breakdown, he says he was found not guilty and will now wear some sort of clothing in the future when he goes to bed.
