Over A Dozen Shots Fired At George Floyd Square In Minneapolis Live: Report

After justice for George Floyd was finally achieved when Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all charges, the Minneapolis community was faced with another tragedy. One person was shot after over a dozen rounds were fired in the area of the city named after Floyd. A live news report from George Floyd Square in Minneapolis captured the panic and chaos as shots rang out and people ducked for cover. 

Reporter Alex Presha from a local news affiliate of ABC News was live on the scene of the memorial near where Floyd was murdered by Chauvin a year ago today (May 25). As he was detailing the mayor’s plan to hold a moment of silence for 9 minutes and 29 seconds reflective of the time Chauvin kneeled on Floyd, a string of gunfire erupted.

More than a dozen rounds were fired as Presha and the rest of the news crew hid from the gunfire. ABC quickly cut away from the chaos. Law enforcement tells TMZ that the Minneapolis Police Department responded to reports of shots fired around 10:09 a.m. central time. Witnesses further claim they saw a suspect fleeing the scene in a vehicle driving at a high speed. 

TMZ reports a short time later, an individual showed up at a local hospital with a mild gunshot wound. AP reporter Phillip Crowther also reports he was on the scene and heard a few dozen gunshots. 

Luckily, no one else was injured in the gunfire. Briefly mentioned before, Tuesday marks one year since Floyd was murdered by former officer and convict Derek Chauvin.

Swizz Beatz Explains Why DMX’s “Exodus” Has So Many Features

Given the major role he played in piecing the album together, Swizz Beatz took a moment to speak about Exodus with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. Though a variety of topics were covered, one of the most interesting moments arose when Swizzy opened up about the substantial number of guest appearances on Exodus. 

“The only tribute was the Moneybagg track,” explains Swizz, implying that Moneybagg Yo’s “Money Money Money” was pieced together posthumously. “Everything else X was present and happy for. We had a conversation, and I told him, I said, yo, I know you don’t like a lot of features, but I think it’s time that people should see that other people love you as well and you’re respected by serious, serious artists.”

“Although you’re humble, although you don’t really have features, let’s have fun with it, come out the gate,” he continues. “Then the next album, we can get back to how you want to do it, but let’s have some fun. Let’s give them something they can’t expect. They’re not expecting you and Bono. They’re not expecting you and Alicia. They’re not expecting you and Griselda. They’re not expecting you, Jay, and Nas on one track. You know what I’m saying? They never expected an Usher with “Letter To My Son, Call Your Father,” You know?”

“He just loved the idea of it, but he was a little sneaky about it because in his mind, he loved that he was able to work with them,” continues Swizz. “On the other hand, he figured out it was less work for him. He really loved it. He was like, oh, I only got to do three verses? Okay, tell Lil’ Wayne let’s go. So that was the good, the good part, man.”

J. Cole Is Really Outside In The “Applying Pressure” Music Video

J. Cole’s hardly promoting his new album on his own but The Off-Season is definitely among the best rap releases of the year. The latest offering from the Fayetteville native has seen tremendous success. It debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, plus, four songs off of the album debuted within the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. While the rapper might be overseas carrying out his dreams of being a pro-baller, he isn’t neglecting his promotional duties.

Today, the rapper unveiled another visual off of his latest project. This time, he delivers the music video for “Applying Pressure.” The Scott Lazar-directed music video finds Cole throughout various parts of NYC including an empty subway. At one point, Dave East, who Cole shouts out on the record, makes a brief cameo.

J. Cole Tours New York City In His Gritty ‘Applying Pressure’ Video

For some fans, J. Cole is as much a Queens rapper as he is one from the South. His journey to rap stardom more or less started in New York, where he attended St. John’s University and met his collaborators and Dreamville co-founders Bas and Ibrahim Hamad. In the video for “Applying Pressure,” Cole revisits some of the most meaningful locales around the city for him in a gritty, nighttime shoot reminiscent of the ’90s rap aesthetic that informs much of his work. Dave East, who Cole name-checks in the song’s lyrics, also makes a cameo appearance.

“Applying Pressure” was also the title for the documentary Cole released as part of the rollout for his new album The Off-Season. In it, he explains the process behind the creation of the album, which was inspired and influenced by the drills he would run while training for basketball. Both sets of drills paid off for him; not only did The Off-Season reach No. 1 on the Billboard albums chart as many of his previous works had done, but all of the songs from the album also landed in the top 40 of the Hot 100, including the four most-streamed songs landing in the top 10. Meanwhile, his basketball workouts got him a spot on the roster of the Basketball Africa League’s Rwanda team.

Akon’s Car Was Reportedly Stolen While He Was Putting Gas In It

Akon was pumping gas at an Atlanta gas station when the unthinkable happened. While filling up his white Range Rover SUV on the passenger side, the musician reportedly turned and saw it being driven away by a thief.

Akon was able to contact the police and report the SUV stolen. Per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the gas station’s security camera showed a black sedan pull up right next to Akon’s car. A man got out of the sedan’s passenger seat a slid right into Akon’s Range Rover, quickly pulling off as the black sedan followed.

At the time of the crime, Akon had a number of valuable items in the car, including a $25,000 diamond necklace and a $6,500 Louis Vuitton bag. Thankfully, the musician’s iPhone was also in the car, so he was able to use the FindMyPhone app to track his phone and stolen car to Lawton Street in southwest Atlanta. However, the car was already gone by the time police pulled up to the location.

Akon was able to once again locate his phone in Forest Park, where Officer Steve Avery reported it was successfully recovered early Tuesday morning. While the car has been found and returned to Akon, there are currently no suspects in the case.

Moneybagg Yo’s Sunny ‘A Gangsta’s Pain’ Video Celebrates His Album’s No. 1 Debut

In Moneybagg Yo’s breezy new “A Gangsta’s Pain” video, the Memphis native takes a break from promoting his new album of the same name to celebrate that album’s success. Not only was it his first album to reach No.1 on the Billboard albums chart, it did so twice, returning to the top spot just weeks later.

The video follows Moneybagg and his crew as they party in a fancy vacation home in the tropics, lounging in its pool, boating on a nearby body of water, and enjoying a big bag of green nuggets of you-know-what.

In addition to keeping his album rollout going, Moneybagg Yo also introduced the newest member of his Bread Gang crew on social media today. Not a lot is known about Tripstar at the moment, other than he’s also a Memphian and appears on the song “I Believe U” from A Gangsta’s Pain. Yo posted a video of the young, up-and-coming artists on his Instagram, writing, “AnyTime I Stamp Sum It’s Det, So If U Rock Wit Me And My Brand I Need Yall To Go Get In Tune Wit Da Newest Member.”

Bun B, Trae Tha Truth, Big K.R.I.T & Raheem DeVaughn Honor George Floyd On New Song

Today marks one year since the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis which kicked off the protests of summer 2020. To honor his memory and the Black Lives Matter movement, Bun B and Trae Tha Truth, have shared a new record titled, “This World.” The song features Big K.R.I.T and Raheem DeVaughn with production being handled by Cory Mo and Zaytoven. The music video for the track shows footage from last year’s protests.

“Floyd’s impact definitely is set in stone in Houston,” Trae Tha Truth told HNHH about George Floyd in March. “You know, our relationship wasn’t music-based. Our relationship was — that was my partner, you know what I’m saying? As far as what we do in the community and stuff I have going on, he’d always be there.”

Kodak Black Embodies Rasta Vibes In New “Z Look Jamaican” Visual

A little over a week ago, Kodak Black treated fans to his first official project since being pardoned by former POTUS Donald Trump. Haitian Boy Kodak is a fully solo 8-track effort from the Pompano Beach native that arrived after the release of various loosies like “Easter In Miami” and “Thugged Out” with YNW Melly.  

Late last week, the proud Zoe debuted the video for “Z Look Jamaican” off his new EP. Directed by Young Chang, the visual sees the Florida rapper having a ball in the birthplace of reggae and rasta culture, dancing to music, hanging with the locals, and more. Of course, he also spends time doing donuts in the streets in addition to other neat activities. While also displaying his unwavering Haitian pride, Z dons a tracksuit with the Jamaican flag colors as he flirts with local ladies and rhymes over the beat. 

On the track, he shows love to the name-dropped Caribbean island, spitting, “The Z a Rastafarian, the Z a Rastafarian Coupe, I’m skeeting off dust and it’s all rim to you, your daddy a Z, so what are you?”

This past weekend, Kodak took to social media to blast the music industry after catching wind of sales projections for his latest project. “#HaitianBoyKodak Is ‘Expected’ To Sale 22k First Week ? Ok Great,” wrote the rapper. “Me Dropping The Same Day As Nicki And J.cole Is not an excuse for me Kuz I’m as Big an Artist as Them !”

“I Use To Sell 100K First Week Etc. But along the way the game Turnt gay !!!” he continued. “Even tho I get to singing to b*tches I signed up fa Gangsta Rap , Not This peekaboo ass sh*t where good hearted , Real individuals are forced to hide their support for you in public … I can’t Say It’s Blackballing but it’s alotta D*cksuckin & Ass Kissin Goin On [sideways laughing emojis].”
