Megan Thee Stallion Launches $1M Scholarship Fund For IWD

Yesterday marked International Women’s Day and Megan Thee Stallion unveiled massive plans to commemorate the holiday. The rapper partnered with Fashion Nova, once again, to hand out another round of scholarships and grants worth $1M to young women as part of a new initiative called “Women On Top.” These scholarships and grants are meant to support “women entrepreneurs, female students, women-owned businesses, and women-focused charities.”

For the remainder of Women’s History Month, Fashion Nova Cares and Megan Thee Stallion will offer pre-selected recipients a grant of $25K or more. I’m excited to collaborate with Fashion Nova Cares on the Women on Top initiative and be part of giving $1 million to support women-led businesses and organizations,” Megan said in a statement. “These donations are life changing and will help women of all ages get one step closer to making their dreams a reality.”

She revealed that the first recipient of the first $25K is the YWCA in her hometown of Houston, TX who she recently agreed to help in the midst of the Texas winter freeze.

This is the latest scholarship fund Meg’s launched in her name. In October, she launched the Don’t Stop Scholarship Fund for women of color who are pursuing higher education.

Shout out to Megan Thee Stallion for the dope initiative. Check out her announcement for the scholarship below.

Azealia Banks Gets Into The NFT Game — With An Audio Sex Tape

Not to be a Luddite or an alarmist or anything, but it might be time to put the brakes on the whole crypto experiment. Aside from the ecological effects, which look pretty bad overall, I never wanted to type the words “Azealia Banks sex tape” at any point in my career — and yet, here we are.

The controversy magnet — who was at one point famous for making the romping 2012 hit “212” and is now much more liable to go on a bigoted rant or try to start a beef with whichever female rapper is currently closest to the top of the charts — decided the non-fungible token (NFT) game was too good to miss out on and found the perfect (in her mind, I’m sure) way to capitalize: the aforementioned sex tape. According to Vice and NFT marketplace Foundation, the first-ever audio sex tape NFT was created by Banks and sold for quite the sum.

Of course, being Azealia Banks, she had to throw some troll-ish curveball on it. The tape, which features Banks and her fiance, conceptual artist Ryder Ripps, is audio-only. I’ll leave whether that’s a good or a bad thing up to you, but there’s one thing it absolutely is: profitable. The 24-minute recording apparently sold for well over $17,000 — or 10 Ethereum, technically speaking. The buyer, Rulton Fyder, received full ownership, distribution and display rights, and a signed LP vinyl record.

Only time will tell if Fyder’s (a play on Fulton Ryder, a pseudonym of Richard Prince’s) NSFW NFT investment will pay off. Crypto-art is still relatively new and the element that gives traditional art its value, generally speaking, is time. However, with this new technology running rampant and the internet re-writing all the rules faster than anyone can learn them, it’s the wild west and we might be looking at a whole new ballgame, where ownership comes with two-factor authentication.

Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow is proving to have actually produced a few stars aside from the winner, D-Smoke. We’ve seen a few artists use the shine that they receive to leverage their own careers and it appears to be working quite well. Beanz has been making the rounds lately as fans, showcasing her affinity for delivering bars while offering highly-relatable music. Her consistency and ingenuity is proving that she’s well on her way for a big year ahead.

This week, she slid through with another showcasing of bars bonanza with her “Waves” freestyle video. Tapping P-Lo for the laid-back California production, Beanz reflects on coming up in the game to finally seeing her dreams come to fruition.

Check out the latest from Beanz and sound off in the comments with your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics
Comin’ fresh off the plane, sippin’ champagne
Feelin’ like Jay-Z, money ain’t a thang
Think he ’bout to play me, n***a get played
I’m in the California sunshine, sittin’ by the waves

Trina & Rick Ross Hugged Up At “Rap Snacks” Launch Party

Female rap icon, Trina, posted a series of photos of her and Rick Ross in close quarters, at the “Rap Snacks” event celebrating Trina’s new line of chips with the hip-hop-facing company.

In both photos and video, the two Florida rappers wear big flirty smiles, while Ross seemingly holds the Boss Lady in a loving grip. Trina captioned one of the photos “Biggest @richforever,” with a heart emoji.

The Florida native captioned another one of the photos “Family ..,” presumed to be shutting down the dating rumors before they started. However, fans still seemed to be quite excited about the potential pairing.

One user commented, “Why y’all can’t just be together for the culture ya look so good together.” While another.  person commented, “Let me put my left foot in the game now #iykyk,” referencing their iconic collaboration “Told Y’all” that was featured in the All About The Benjamins film starring Ice Cube and Mike Epps.

There’s no secret Ricky Rozay and Trina go way back and have been supportive of each other since Ross’ pre-fame days. In an interview from 2011, Trina expressed her deep admiration for the Maybach Music Group leader, saying he is no ordinary emcee.

Back in the day, there were rumors that the two rappers dated. However, the “Aston Martin Music” rapper revealed the two never actually connected romantically, because he never made it out of the friend zone.

At one point, they were labelmates, both having deals with Slip-N-Slide Records. Ross departed the label in the late 2000s, but their friendship  remains strong, as evident by these new photos.

While Trina claims it’s a family type of love, is there potential for a romance between the two? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Is DaniLeigh Pregnant? Fans Think So After Recent Video

Few things in life are guaranteed, save for death, taxes, and DaniLeigh going viral. The Miami-born singer/rapper has been making all kinds of headlines for the last year, and much of it has nothing to do with her music. Her latest album MOVIE was highly slept on as the public chose to focus on the numerous controversies that have surrounded the artist, including the recent colorism scandal that arose from her previewed “Yellow Bone” song

Despite previously embracing her status as the “most hated” rapper, DaniLeigh took some time to snap pictures with fans at a sneaker shop. The video has been picked apart for a number of reasons. For starters, the way she’s walking is pretty strange. “Why tf she walk like that?” asked one commenter. Also, she’s not wearing a mask in the store, prompting people to call her out for not taking the pandemic seriously while everyone around her masked up. But the main reason this video has people talking is because of Dani’s stomach.

The star rapper is currently trending as people theorize if she has a bun in the oven. Wearing a red dress, Dani seemingly cupped her stomach, drawing attention to a possible baby bump. While Dani has not confirmed whether she’s pregnant, fans are already making assumptions. “She happy asf to show that belly,” said someone in the comments. “She definitely wanted that belly seen,” added another, suggesting that she was sticking it out on purpose.

The rumors have been floating around since Monday. Given her recent relationship with DaBaby, some of her followers are wondering whether they might be forever linked as a result of a possible pregnancy.

ShaqIsDope Drops Off New Single “Blame Game”

Toronto’s own ShaqIsDope recently dropped off one of his “best songs ever” — or so he claims in an Instagram caption — with the atmospheric and lyrically-driven “Blame Game.” Over an instrumental from Nyce Sound, Shaq follows-up a melodic chorus with some introspective bars. “Got a way with the words I’m heavenly gifted, got enough fire to make the devil suspicious,” he raps, his flex tempered by the track’s contemplative vibe. “The hell I’m living in ain’t complete without a mistress / told this girl I love her once, all I heard back was crickets.”

For those who can appreciate a bit of self-analysis on wax, there’s plenty to appreciate where “Blame Game” is concerned. Especially once he widens the scope to reflect on some of the problems plaguing society; while it’s not uncommon to hear American artists speak on systemic racism in the police force, it’s important to hear the Canadian perspective on the topic. “Nowadays some cops kill you if you know your rights,” he raps. “Depending on your skin, you’ll make it home at night.”

There’s a lot to unpack on this one — be sure to check out the latest from ShaqIsDope right now, and look for big things from the Torontonian emcee in the future.

Seth Rogan Ate An Edible & Scared Bryan Cranston At The Golden Globes

Edibles aren’t for everyone, even for heavy smokers. Seth Rogan, who’s in the midst of launching his own cannabis brand Houseplant in states across America, recently sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to discuss his latest venture. They discussed the various flowers available as well as the possibilities of bringing edibles into the American market. Rogan explained that the products available in Canada must abide by a certain standard which he said makes it easier to create consistency.

“We sell beverages in Canada but in Canada, the infrastructure is far more institutionalized. So you can kind of recreate an effect more consistently with edibles, whereas in America they’re not quite there yet. And edibles, I’ve had, like, very scattershot experiences, I guess you would say,” he said. Specifically, it was a time at the Golden Globes where he had a cannabis-infused lollipop over the course of the evening. Even though he was fully aware of the extent of how medicated he was, he was confident that he was holding it together.

“I was at the Golden Globes, which are a nightmare, so I had a weed lollipop throughout the show and I thought in my head, I was like, ‘I’m really high but I’m keeping it together,” he said. Naturally, he headed to an afterparty after the award show concluded where he bumped into Bryson Cranston.

“I went to an afterparty and I saw Bryan Cranston, who I don’t know that well but I saw him and the first thing he said was ‘Are you okay?'” Rogan recalled. “When you just think you’re doing good and someone looks at you, like very scared and says ‘Are you okay?’ it’ll really bring you back down to Earth.”

HER Organizes An Uprising In The Stirring ‘Fight For You’ Video

The video for HER’s “Fight For You” is here. HER’s soulful Judas And The Black Messiah soundtrack single invokes the lasting legacy of the Black Panther Party, so it’s only right that the video does the same. Following a loose storyline, the video observes how the tragic cycle of state violence against Black Americans plays out across the decades, with a shooting in 1971 laying the foundation for an uprising HER and her father try to organize in 2021.

Using their shoe shop’s stature as a clear focal point of the community, HER delivers boots stamped “I am a revolutionary” to friends and family throughout the city, prompting former Panthers to remember their revolutionary calling. However, their activities attract the wrong kind of attention, causing the cycle to play out as it always has. Even then, hope is seen in a future generation that has already absorbed the lessons taught by the elder Panthers, proving that the system can kill a revolutionary but can’t kill the revolution.

HER previously performed the standout, Golden Globe- and Grammy-nominated track on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, while the Bay Area singer will also perform at the first-ever Black Music Collective pre-Grammy event highlighting the contributions of Black artists ahead of the main show on March 10. “Fight For You” also appears on the Oscars’ Best Original Song shortlist.
