Kim Kardashian Thanks Joe Biden For Recognizing Armenian Genocide

Kim Kardashian posted a lengthy thank-you statement to President Joe Biden for recognizing the Armenian genocide, a mass murder conducted by the Ottoman Turks that resulted in the death of millions of Armenians from 1915-1917.

“After more than a century of fighting for truth and acknowledgment, today the Armenian people received the recognition we have all been hoping and praying for,” Kim wrote. “I’m so proud of my heritage, proud of the Armenian communities and grateful to President Biden for granting every Armenian this day, and this truth.”

“I will continue to honor and remember those we lost every year on this day, but now with the hope that after recognizing the genocide we will never again allow atrocities of the past to be repeated,” she added. “Thank you President Biden for your courage to speak the truths other chose not to.”

Biden formally recognized the genocide, earlier this week, making him the first U.S. President to do so. The move will undoubtedly hurt the political relationship between the U.S. and Turkey.

Turkish Presidency communications director Fahrettin Altun, according to CNN, said that “the Biden administration’s decision to misportray history out with an eye on domestic political calculations is a true misfortune for Turkey-U.S. relations.”

Daniel Kaluuya won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah, Sunday, and mentioned his parent having sex during his acceptance speech. His family was visibly uncomfortable in the audience.

“My mom, my dad, they had sex, it’s amazing! I’m here,” he remarked while the camera cut to his sister with her head in her hands.

Kaluuya also spoke about Black Panther leader Fred Hampton and his legacy:

What a man. What a man. How blessed we are that we lived in a lifetime where he existed. You know what I mean? Thank you for your light. He was on this earth for 21 years, and he found a way to feed kids breakfast. Educate kids, give free medical care, against all the odds. He showed me, he taught me, him, Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale, the Black Panther party, they showed me how to love myself, and with that love, they overflowed it to the Black community and other communities.

Earlier in the night, H.E.R. honored Hampton with a performance of “Fight For You,” which was featured in Judas and the Black Messiah.

Judas and the Black Messiah was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture.

Regina King Reflects On Derek Chauvin Verdict During Oscars Speech

Regina King, director of Oscar-nominated film One Night in Miami, reflected on the verdict of Derek Chauvin’s trial in the murder of George Floyd, during her opening speech at the 93rd Academy Awards, Sunday. Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter, last week.

“We are mourning the loss of so many, and I have to be honest, if things had gone differently this past week in Minneapolis I may have traded in my heels for marching boots,” she said during the event.

“I know that a lot of you people at home want to reach for your remote when you feel like Hollywood is preaching to you, but as a mother of a Black son I know the fear that so many live with, and no amount of fame or fortune changes that, OK?” King added.

Earlier in the night, H.E.R. honored Black Panthers leader Fred Hampton with a performance of “Fight For You,” which was featured in the Oscar-nominated film, Judas and the Black Messiah.

Following the conviction of Chauvin, Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized President Joe Biden for saying that the killing of Floyd showed the systemic racism in America. Graham claimed that Barack Obama and Kamala Harris’ election are proof system racism cannot exist.

Judas and the Black Messiah is nominated for five Oscars awards including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for the film’s stars, Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield.

H.E.R. spoke about the impact of Fred Hampton during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in February: “We were listening to Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, we listened to a lot of Sly and the Family Stone, some of my favorites. I picked up the bass thinking about this theme of fighting for something. Because there’s so many things that Fred Hampton was fighting for and that we are all still fighting for.”

The 93rd Academy Awards is airing at 8:00 PM EST, Sunday.

CMU Quarterback John Keller In Serious Condition After Off-Campus Shooting

Central Michigan quarterback John Keller and another student were victims of a shooting at an off-campus party, Saturday night, the university announced in a statement. No specific details regarding the shooting were released, but CMU President Dr. Bob Davies says local law enforcement are looking for suspects and that Keller is in serious condition.

“Local law enforcement, led by the Isabella County Sheriff, continues to investigate the incident and is searching for the suspect or suspects involved,” Davies wrote in a public statement.

The university’s student newspaper, CM Life, claims that a fight broke out at the event, during which someone retrieved a weapon from their car and opened fire.

“I and many other CMU staff have personally reached out to each of the students and their families to offer support,” Davies continued in his statement. “We are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers. Please join me in hoping for a speedy recovery for both individuals.”

Offensive Coordinator Kevin Barbay wrote on Twitter: “Asking for prayers for one of our quarterbacks John Keller, his family and our Central Michigan community. He is a tough young man with a great family that could use everyone’s prayers right now.”

Keller started his collegiate career as a walk-on starter at Cincinnati before transferring to community college, and then to CMU.
