Lil Uzi Vert Addresses Nitrous Addiction Allegations On New Song

Lil Uzi Vert is an enigmatic figure. They bring authenticity and emotional nakedness to their music, but at the same time, they remain hazy about the details. Lil Uzi Vert is a character at the end of the day, as the rollout for his new album can attest. Eternal Atake 2 poses the rapper as this extraterrestrial being with a wiped memory and a mysterious mission. One can be forgiven for getting caught up in the showmanship and forgetting that Uzi has dealt with personal struggles behind the scenes. The most unexpected part of his new album deals with these struggles, in fact.

Lil Uzi Vert kicks off Eternal Atake 2 with the epic song “We Good.” It’s as spacious and aggressive as fans have come to hope for from an Uzi intro. It does an excellent job of setting the table for the major themes of the album, but one line stood out from the rest. The rapper decided to break his silence on the allegations that they were addicted to nitrous. “They said I was lost,” they rapped. “They thought I was a dead dead guy, I was on the NOS.” NOS is a slang term for nitrous, and the line seemingly confirms what many fans feared.

Lil Uzi Vert Seemingly Admits To Inhaling Gas

A video of Lil Uzi Vert seemingly inhaling a balloon filled with nitrous went viral in August. The rapper was in the studio when he allegedly consumed the gas, and can be seen giggling afterwards. Uzi fans voiced their concern, and their desire to see the rapper clean up his act. The video of Uzi released shortly after Kanye West was accused of having a nitrous addiction of his own. A dangerous pattern seemed to have emerged, but neither artist have addressed the allegations outright. Until now, of course. Lil Uzi Vert has admitted to having substance abuse issues with the gas, and his word choice suggests it is no longer an issue.

The rollout for Eternal Atake 2 has also suggested a creatively refocused Lil Uzi Vert. The rapper put together an incredible rollout in the week’s leading up to the album’s release. Everything seemed very intentional, from the promos to the teaser songs to the imagery. Uzi is back on track, and if we are to take him at his word, then we could easily ascertain that kicking a dangerous habit has directly had an impact on this focus. We’re glad to have Uzi back.

Snoop Dogg Begins The Rollout To ‘Missionary’ With ‘Gorgeous’ Featuring Jhené Aiko

I can’t remember the last time that general audiences were as hyped for a new Snoop Dogg as they are for Missionary, Snoop’s long-awaited reunion with Dr. Dre and a spiritual sequel to his 1993 debut Doggystyle (if you couldn’t tell from the title). After announcing the release date a day ago and revealing the tracklist earlier today, Snoop and Dre unleashed the funky first single: “Gorgeous” featuring Jhené Aiko.

The song has a bit of a big-band funk feel, complete with brassy horn stabs and those classic, crispy Dr. Dre snares. Meanwhile, Snoop sounds refreshed and effervescent, neatly C-walking all over the glitzy production with his trademark player talk — or as he puts it, “I dealt with the cons and the pros / I mix Crip sh*t with the highs and the lows.” Aiko offers her honeyed vocals on the chorus, asking, “Don’t this sh*t look gorgeous?” It certainly sounds gorgeous.

The Doggfather and Dre recently gave an interview lamenting the lack of originality in today’s rap music — although to be fair, they are in their 50s, and there’s a lot of music out these days (so much, it’s hard for professional critics to keep track). However, to their credit, they offered a solution along with their complaints: “Be original,” Snoop advised. “Right now there’s so much copycatting, mimicking, sounding alike, and imitation. Find your production, your sound, find your ear for who you are, and be original even if it ain’t hitting. Stay you.”

You can check out “Gorgeous” with Jhené Aiko above.

Missionary is out 12/13 via Death Row/Aftermath/Interscope Records. Find more information here.

Freddie Gibbs Strikes Back With Gritty Album “YOU ONLY DIE 1NCE”

Freddie Gibbs is back. The rapper may best be known for his collaborations with Madlib, but his solo material has always benefited from having a conceptual edge. It may seem like he’s telling traditional stories over hard-hitting production, but there’s always something more eclectic and ambitious under the surface. YOU ONLY DIE 1NCE is a perfect example. The album is a sequel to Freddie Gibbs’ release YOU ONLY LIVE 2WICE, and like the title suggests, it focuses on mortality. The lead single, “On the Set,” was a weighty tribute to fallen rappers like Biggie and Nipsey Hussle.

“On the Set” is actually the last song on the album, which means the rest of the songs build up to it. The placement was not accidental. Freddie Gibbs waxes poetic over this somber collection of songs, like with the meditative “It’s Your Anniversary” or the menacing “Ruthless.” Gibbs manages the rare feat keeping the tracklist both cohesive and varied. “Brick Fees” sees the rapper rattle off bars over a measured beat, and “Wolverine” may just be the best song on the whole album. There’s nothing flashy about the music or Freddie Gibbs’ rhyme scheme, but the earnestness on display is what has always allowed the rapper to stand out from his peers.

Let us know what you think of this brand new album, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.
