On this date in 1986, 305-based Hip Hop trio 2 Live Crew released their debut album 2 Live Crew Is What We Are on their independent imprint Luke Skyywalker Records.

This album serves as the main precursor to the legendary Miami bass sound as well as predicates almost all other modern, R-rated and X-rated Hip Hop music. Featuring lead MC Luther Campbell aka Luke Skyywalker, Brother Marquis and the late Fresh Kid Ice, the debut album from the nastiest group in the game had titles that made radio DJs cringe such as “Throw That D**k”, We Want Some P***y”, which both became popular anthems of Miami Hip Hop.

Salute to the iconic 2 Live Crew for their unprecedented contribution to Hip Hop music on this album and all those that followed. RIP to Chris Wong Won aka Fresh Kid Ice, who passed away earlier this month at age 53. The Crew is forever etched in their place in Hip-Hop history!

After becoming a star on the back of songs like “In Ha Mood” and “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2,” Ice Spice is now just hours away from releasing Y2K!, her debut album. As for what’s next for Ice, it looks like she’s ready to take a risk.

During an interview on Capital XTRA Breakfast today (as NME notes), Ice said of her plans for the rest of 2024, “I kind of want to do something that is kind of crazy, but I don’t want to say what it is yet. I feel like people are going to have so many things to say, but if I do it, you guys will not miss it.”

She added that the plan is “probably as risky as” jumping out of a plane, continuing, “That’s all I can really say. But let’s see, let’s see, though. I don’t know, I might change my mind. I’m very indecisive.”

Ice also said of how she’s feeling in the lead-up to the new album, “I think naturally, I’ll have good nerves, if anything. I feel like it’s a good thing to be a little nervous, because it means you just care. I’m so eager to put out the album, I’m really excited. And my fans are really excited, so yeah… it’s like finally here. I’ve been working on it for like a year.”

50 Cent Advocates For Removal Of New York Judge After Troubling Video Surfaces Online

50 Cent joined the calls to remove New York State Supreme Court Justice Erin Gall from her position. Earlier this week, police bodycam footage of the incident was released following an investigation. The video shows Gall telling Black teenagers to leave a high school graduation party following a confrontation over uninvited guests.

She tells them, “You’re not going to find your keys. You got to call an Uber and get off the property.” Gall added, “You’re going to get a cop escort home.” Gall also tried to get the police to arrest the Black teenagers for trespassing. “I’ve done this for a million years,” she said. “I’m a lawyer. I’m a judge. I know this.” She also adds that if the teens returned for their keys, “you can shoot them on the property. I’ll shoot them on the property,” a message for the police officers in the video.

50 Cent Advocates For Removal Of Judge

The judge’s behavior outraged 50 Cent. On Wednesday, he took to Instagram with a new report featuring body-cam footage of the incident. “SMH, she should be removed. This is bad. Repost this video.” 50 wasn’t the only person left outraged. The State Commission on Judicial Conduct issued its report detailing their investigation of this incident on Monday. The report recommended Gall’s dismissal and found that she “created at least the appearance that she harbored racial bias,” during the July 2022 incident. Moreover, the panel also said Gall “repeatedly invoked her judicial office,” in her repeated attempts to have the Black teenage partygoers arrested.

“Her wide array of misconduct severely undermined public confidence in the judiciary and in her ability to serve as a fair and impartial judge,” the commission added in their report. ” [Erin Gall’s behavior] was as shocking as anything I have seen in my 40 years of judicial ethics enforcement,” said Robert H. Tembeckjian, the commission’s administrator. Gall’s attorney, Robert Julian, plans to challenge the ruling, according to CBS News. Gall is currently on paid suspension, having been unable to serve in her day job since the investigation began. It is unlikely that she’ll work in law again anytime soon.

Southwest Airlines Set to Assign Seats, Toss Open Seating Policy

b

Southwest Airlines will no longer offer open seating. According to the airline, passenger preferences have changed, and the airline will meet the request by providing seating options, which is believed could positively impact revenue and financial performance.

According to the AP, the change comes at the same time as reports of a drop in second-quarter profits, an issue Southwest shares with American Airlines. Southwest notes a 46% profit deficient in comparison to last year, noting higher costs of labor, fuel, and more. The company made $367 million in the quarter.

American Airlines also reported dropping 46%, with over $700 million in revenue.

Southwest will also offer red eye flights, a first in its history. Those overnight flights will begin in February 2025.
