Founding Member of The Roots Malik B. Passed Away at 47

On this date in 2020, one of the founding members of The Roots, Malik Abdul-Basit Smart aka Malik B passed away. He was 47 years old.

At the time of his passing, The Roots released a statement saying, “It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time Roots member Malik Abdul Baset. May he be remembered for his devotion to Islam, His loving brotherhood and his innovation as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. We ask that you please respect his family and extended family in our time of mourning such a great loss.”

Malik B. was considered to be an integral part of the group. He appeared on the first four albums, but like every group, they had internal problems and he eventually parted ways. The Philly emcee made guest appearances on later records and also released a solo project called Street Assault in 2005.

His cause of death is still not known.

Today in Hip Hop History: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Dropped Their Third LP ‘Art Of War’ 28 Years Ago

On this day in Hip Hop history, we celebrate a quarter-century of one of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s most popular pieces of work, The Art of War. As a follow-up to the group’s most successful album E. 1999 Eternal, The Art of War did everything but disappoint. The album kept the group’s momentum up, claiming the top spot on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts. This album even capitalized on the double LP trend of the 90s in a way that was cohesive and unsaturated.

Originally rumored to be titled DNA Level C or “Cleveland” spelled backward, this album took its current title and became a declaration of war against rappers whom Bone Thugs believed to be imitators of the style they created. Some of the groups and artists targeted were Three 6 Mafia, Twista, Crucial Conflict, and Tommy Wright III. Through this project, Bone Thugs looked to cement themselves as the only soulful east coast gangsta rappers in the industry.

Commercially this album was a great success, selling 349,000 copies in its first week on shelves and going on to be certified quadruple platinum only one year after its release. The album’s two singles were also big hits with “If I Could Teach the World” reaching #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and “Look Into My Eyes” peak at #4 on the same chart.

Stunna Girl has shared pictures and video of a gruesome injury she sustained after allegedly being shot in her breast though no further details are known.

6ix9ine Hit With Harsh Penalty Following “Stoopid” Copyright Judgement

6ix9ine has lost a copyright infringement case related to his song “Stoopid” after the United States District Court ruled against him in a lawsuit brought by Seth Gordon. The case settles around the use of Gordon’s “Yung Gordon Intro” musical composition, for which he owns the copyright registration. The radio drop plays for nine seconds at the beginning of the track.

The case came down to a default judgment against 6ix9ine, as the controversial rapper failed to respond to the lawsuit in an appropriate amount of time. In addition to turning over profits from the song, “Stoopid,” he must also use profits from his album Dummy Boy to cover the judgment. The damages amount to 1/13th of the profits from the album, amounting to $61,538.46. He’ll also have to pay Gordon’s legal fees, which add up to another $12,000.

6ix9ine Appears In Court For Arraignment In Assault Case

It’s far from the first time 6ix9ine has dealt with legal and financial woes. Last week, he made headlines by losing a Bentley and Lamborghini at an IRS auction. The Bently went for $85,500 while the Lamborghini sold for $175,043. The vehicles were seized back in April after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in the Dominican Republic.

Before the domestic violence incident, 6ix9ine was also arrested in October for allegedly assaulting two music producers at a hotel in the Dominican Republic. Years before that, he famously pleaded guilty to nine charges after a racketeering arrest, including conspiracy to commit murder. Bhad Bhabie Claims LeVaughn Wants A “BBL Latina Hoe”

Bhad Bhabie and the father of her child, LeVaughn, have been going through a bit of a rough patch as of late. Overall, much of this began when the social media star took to her Instagram story with a video of LeVaughn abusing her. In this call for help, Bhabie wanted people to know what was happening to her. Moreover, she was urging her boyfriend to seek help so that he could deal with his anger management problems.

Subsequently, it appeared as though the two were actually still together. This came as a bit of a shock to her fans, and many proved to be concerned for her well-being. However, at this stage, it’s hard to tell where the two stand with one another. Case in point, Bhad Bhabie recently took to her IG story with a message about LeVaughn and what his current desires are. “@xgamelv looking for a bbl latina hoe must b rich and have a house and cars he can use,” she wrote.

Overall, the tone of the message does not sound overtly positive, although there was very little added context here for the fans. Either way, things seem to be rocky for them right now, and with a lot of this being made public, it is natural that some are going to speculate. Lil Yachty Claps Back At Net Worth Reports With Staggering Career Earnings From 2016

Lil Yachty is an artist who has been around for a while at this point. Overall, he remains one of the most successful artists to come out of the 2016 XXL Freshman list. Considering the talent that was present that year, that really says something. Although some have always been Yachty haters, you can’t deny that the artist has improved tremendously over the years. Moreover, he has experimented with new sounds while others have remained formulaic in their approaches.

In a recent song, Yachty spoke about having a higher net worth than your favorite artist. Some people on Twitter tried to call cap on this, immediately. However, Yachty was not going to allow that to slide. Below, you can see that some fans pointed towards a Google search that explains how Yachty’s net worth is about $8 million. As Yachty explains, this is completely inaccurate. “I made 8 million in my first 8 months of rapping in 2016 on god,” he wrote.

Back in 2016 and 2017, Yachty was heavily preaching financial literacy and his brand deals. An old episode of Everyday Struggle proves this to be the case. However, some fans must have forgotten.
