Sonya Massey Killing: Sheriff Asks For Forgiveness, But Shoots Down Calls To Resign

Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell became emotional while speaking about the killing of Sonya Massey during a Department of Justice Community Relations Service listening session at Union Baptist Church in Springfield on Monday. After asking for forgiveness for failing Massey, he shot down calls for his resignation arguing that it “would solve nothing.”

“We failed, we did not do our jobs,” Campbell said while getting emotional. “We failed Sonya., we failed Sonya’s family and friends. I stand here before you with my arms wide open and I ask for your forgiveness. I ask (Donna Massey, Sonya’s mother) for forgiveness– I offer up no excuses.” As for whether he’ll resign over the incident, he added: “I will not abandon the sheriff’s office at this most critical moment. That would solve nothing.”

Kid Cudi Teams Up With Saleka For “Divine”, ‘LADY RAVEN’ (Original Music From The Motion Picture TRAP) Out August 2

unnamed 84

Following the worldwide premiere of TRAP in New York City this week, Columbia Recording artist, songwriter, musician, and producer SALEKA and GRAMMY Award-winning rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor, Kid Cudi join for her latest track, DIVINE, taken from the highly anticipated album, LADY RAVEN (Original Music From The Motion Picture TRAP) out on August 2.

LADY RAVEN (Original Music From The Motion Picture TRAP) features music composed, produced, and performed by SALEKA for the Warner Bros. Pictures film TRAP in which she makes her feature film acting debut. Featuring special guests Kid CudiRuss, and AmaaraeLADY RAVEN (Original Music From The Motion Picture TRAP) boasts 14 original songs, each crafted specifically to the script and narrative of the film, blending SALEKA‘s classical piano training with her distinct dark-pop-R&B production and tonality.

“There’s a duality to the Soundtrack,” SALEKA notes. “I wanted to make an album that could stand on its own and embody the sounds and genres I love. At the same time, every song was made for a specific scene with clear intention. Having the external storyline made the process so inspiring though. I could write in a way that was incredibly free since I wasn’t thinking about myself. I ended up editing myself less and exploring facets of my own emotions that I would be too scared to dive into without having Lady Raven to speak through.”

In TRAP, her character “Lady Raven” performs a powerhouse concert as a gripping and thrilling story unfolds concurrently. She penned the songs to entwine with her father’s script, so the rhythm of the music and the story symbiotically depend on one another. Simultaneously, she mined an expansive emotional and sonic spectrum.

SOURCE SPORTS: [WATCH] Jazz Chisholm Jr. Blasts 2 HRs Following Yankees Weekend Trade, One With Aaron Judge’s Bat

Screenshot 2024 07 30 at 10.26.11 AM

It didn’t take long for the recent Yankees trade acquisition of former Miami Marlins All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. to yield results for the Bronx Bombers when Chisholm belted two homers yesterday against the NL East leaders, the Philadelphia Phillies. The double boomers were Chisholm’s first dingers as a Yankee. Some say the secret is he used Aaron Judge’s bat.

Jazz picked up his first hit and first stolen base as a Yankee on Sunday against the Red Sox just hours after being traded from the Marlins to the Yankees on Saturday. Chisholm hit his first dinger in pinstripes against Phillies Zack Wheeler and hit the second against Garret Stubbs. The latter was belted with some help from Aaron Judge’s bat.

Monday’s homers are his 14th and 15th of the season. He hit .249/.323/.407 with 22 steals in 101 games with the Marlins before the trade.

It should be mentioned Chisholm made his first career start at third base Monday. His two primary positions are second base and center field, but the Yankees are set there with Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge, so Chisholm is giving third base a try. He started a slick 5-4-3 double play in his first chance at the hot corner.

“I mean, I went out there and played center field for the first time last year and I felt like it was pretty difficult at first,” Chisholm said about playing third base. “But I just feel like I could go and play anywhere and help my team win. For me, it’s just going somewhere — especially a winning team — and they’re asking me to go somewhere to help them win? I’m definitely gonna go out there and do it.”

SOURCE SPORTS: MJBL Classic/Black World Series Begins In The Nation’s Capital This Week

Screenshot 2024 07 30 at 9.50.43 AM

The Metropolitan Junior Baseball League (MJBL) is presenting its 33rd annual championships competition Tuesday, July 30 through Sunday, August 4, with the 20th Annual Bobby Bonds Memorial Symposium on the opening afternoon. Richmond has been the host city since 2018. The symposium will be held at the Congressional Auditorium in Washington, DC, hosted by Rep. Jennifer McClellan (VA-04).

Some high-powered professionals will be panelists, including Paxton Baker, Washington Nationals minority owner; Howard University professor Ricky Clemons, former Major League Baseball (MLB) VP for the National League; Sonja Stills, Commissioner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference; David James, VP Baseball and Softball Development for MLB, Jarvis Stewart, founding partner of the Washington Nationals, and former MLB player and manager Dusty Baker with opening remarks via zoom. It is a
panel-driven think tank addressing issues that plague youth in inner-city communities and how the game of baseball and education help alleviate some of the problems. This year’s topic is Reconnecting Baseball to the African American Community.

The symposium spans two decades when MJBL presented a proposal to MLB with the concept that Historically Black Colleges and Universities could play an integral role in reversing the decline of African American participation in the game. Corey Nicholson, MJBL board chairman, said “When MLB rejected our initial proposal, Bud Selig was MLB commissioner. Robert Manfred is the commissioner now and under his leadership, he’s made some commendable strides for inclusion, highlighted by the recently incorporating the Negro Leagues stats into the MLB record books. I believe he realizes the value of the sustained 20-year initiative and will incorporate some of our recommendations we present at Capitol Hill.” Nicholson and Mansfred are Harvard Law School alumni, which may contribute to Nicholson’s optimism.

On Wednesday, a skills showcase, the Mike Berry Homerun Derby, the Opening Ceremony and pool play games highlight the day. The showcase is a baseball skills display and runs from 10 am to 12 noon at Highland Springs High School. The featured game between the Richmond MJBL All Stars and the
Freedom Farm All Stars from Nassau Bahamas, 19-under, will start at 7 pm at the Diamond, the home of the San Francisco Giants double-A affiliate, the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Pool play games will involve six divisions, 10-under, 12-under, 14-under, 16-under, 19-under and a women’s 18u softball championship. Some states involved in the championships include Virginia, Connecticut, Flordia, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington, DC. On Saturday, championship games will be played in the 10-under, 12-under, 14-under competitions. The 16-
under, 19-under and women’s championships will end this year’s extravaganza on Sunday. The Ken Free Most Valuable Player Classic Scholarship will be awarded to the top 19-under player. The Charles “Pee Wee” Robinson Award will be presented to a 12-under or 10-under division participant. All registered players receive a free pass to nearby Kings Dominion Theme Park.

MJBL was founded in 1966 by Dr. William M.T. Forrester, the late father of current Executive Director William “Bill” Forrester. The league was established in Richmond during segregation when Black youngsters had limited opportunities to participate in organized baseball. While open to everyone, MJBL remains the only national youth league geared toward inner-city Black athletes. Forrester recently
released the book Black World Series, chronicling the amazing MJBL journey. Nicholson and other MJBL supporters believe this year’s event builds on the organization’s illustrious history.

Joe Budden Rips Childish Gambino’s Album To Shreds In Scathing Rant

Joe Budden did not like Childish Gambino’s latest album. In his review of Bando Stone and the New World for his podcast, he actually said that he “hated” it. He offered further explanation of his issues with Gambino’s work and explained what he would prefer from a Gambino release.

“I hate it! I absolutely f**king hate it. I’m sorry. I know I’m gaining a reputation as a hater, fast,” said Budden. “If you spoke as much as I have to speak for a living, eventually you’d have to start telling the truth about some things.” He added that he was a fan of four songs, one of which was “Steps Beach.” Budden admitted that the music he prefers from Gambino is what he does in the style of “Urn,” a standout from 2013’s Because the Internet.  “For me, there wasn’t enough of this particular style on here. But this is crazy,” said Budden, referring to “Steps Beach.”

Joe Budden Rips Childish Gambino’s Latest Album

Budden mocked “No Excuses,” calling it a “bisexual” song. “He got real alternative,” he said while listening to the track. He still praised the track, despite making fun of it. “Let him get in his bisexual bag! Nah, this song is like you’re taking all takers. Whoever trying to holla at the club, you down. It’s fire, though.” Budden’s review of the album did not address the perceived disses against him. On the track “Survive,” Gambino takes shots at a rapper with a podcast, who fans interpreted to be Joe Budden.

Bando Stone and the New World is Donald Glover’s last album as Childish Gambino, and it doubles as the soundtrack to his upcoming film. The album has received largely positive marks from fans and critics, who’ve praised the adventurous nature of the album’s sound. The album disappointed commercially, selling about 36,000 copies in its first week, a stark decline from the 101,000 that “Awaken, My Love!” sold in 2016. Joe Budden is one of the critics who did not care for it. However, you can read HotNewHipHop’s much more positive review of the album here.

Eminem Fans Uncover “Genius” Easter Egg In “The Death Of Slim Shady” Dating Back To 2005

Eminem fans have seemingly uncovered an easter egg on the legendary rapper’s latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). It centers around an interview the Detroit artist gave back in 2005, in which he described his classic track, “When I’m Gone,” as “the death of Slim Shady” and him “putting this persona to bed.” On his new song, “Guilty Conscience 2,” he shoots his alter ego which prompts a snippet of “When I’m Gone” to start playing in the background.

When the easter egg started to go viral on social media, fans were stunned by the detail. “This guy is a genius man didn’t even clock,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another added: “Jesus man this dude is light years ahead of the game. No wonder he’s so bored he’s beefing with himself.” One fan also pointed out: “Also he said What shot is this? First, second, it’s your third which links back to this song and my darling where he tries to end slim previously as well.”

Eminem dropped The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) back on July 12 as his twelfth studio album. The project features collaborations with JID, Skylar Grey, Big Sean, BabyTron, and several more artists. It peaked at the top spot on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Eminem References “When I’m Gone”

Despite the excitement, Joe Budden recently remarked that he isn’t interested in hearing Eminem’s new album. After admitting that Em ranks among the greatest of all time, he remarked: “I know where he stands as an MC. I know what he does. [But] I didn’t feel that urgency with this. It has nothing to do with him or with music. I don’t care about none of the Slim Shady sh*t. I don’t care about f*cking Jennifer Aniston or whoever he’s dissing, f*cking Nick Storm, Nick Fury, or whoever he’s dissing.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Eminem on HotNewHipHop.
