Soulja Boy Campaigns To Buy TikTok, Condemning Potential Ban in U.S.

Atari Shuts Down Claims That Soulja Boy Is The First Rapper To Own Video Game Company

Soulja Boy is never shy about his contributions to the proliferation of artists on social media, as one of the first to adopt YouTube as a promotional tool. So it’s no surprise that the rapper turned entrepreneur is campaigning for TikTok not to be banned. In fact, he self-declared himself as TikTok’s best chance to stay alive, with Congress placing a timeline on a potential shutdown of the world’s most popular social media platform.

TMZ recently showed Soulja Boy screaming, as he tends to do, about making a deal. Now, take that for what it’s worth, but you have to respect his confidence and ambition.

In the interview, Soulja Boy spoke out against a legislative measure that Biden signed to ban TikTok in the United States if it does not divest from Bytedance, a Chinese-owned and operated technology company.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has vowed to keep up the fight until the end. Soula Boy believes the battle is hopeless, but the “Turn My Swag On” rapper said he’ll take over so the app stays as is, popular and successful. It’s a lot of talk, but suggesting alternatives rather than just watching the inevitable play out is better than nothing, depending on who you ask.

Now get this, and sit down because Soulja believes he essentially invented TikTok culture. He’s always contended he was the first rapper to get big off of YouTube and other social media avenues in the mid-’00s with hits like “Crank Dat” dance craze and more. There might be one issue Soulja can’t quite solve. TikTok is valued around $100 billion. Soulja could find partners, but still, that’s a lot of bread, even for his limitless ideas. Regardless, Soulja wants in on the TikTok conversation and has our attention.

ByteDance is resisting the call to sell TikTok. According to Reuters, ByteDance has until Jan. 19, 2025, to sell the app following Biden signing the bill to ban the app.

Speaking on TikTok, the company’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, blasted the bill as “unconstitutional,” telling viewers, “This is a ban on TikTok and a ban on you and your voice.”

He later said, “Politicians may say otherwise, but don’t get confused. Many who sponsored the bill admit a TikTok ban is the ultimate goal.”

Reuters added that TikTok would prefer to shut down United States operations instead of selling its assets.

President Biden signed the divest-or-ban provision as part of a broader national security bill, which includes substantial foreign and military aid for countries like Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. The swift action came after the Senate voted 79-18 in favor of the measure, indicating strong bipartisan support.

Reflecting on the bill’s journey to his desk, President Biden acknowledged its challenges, stating, “The path to my desk was a difficult path. It should have been easier and it should’ve gotten there sooner.”

TikTok’s legal battle against the divestment mandate underscores the high stakes involved for the popular social media platform and its millions of users in the US. As the situation unfolds, the future of TikTok in the country remains uncertain, pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

‘Clipped’ Trailer: Laurence Fishburne Channels NBA Coach Doc Rivers in Limited Series Based on the Donald Sterling Scandal

‘Clipped’ Trailer: Laurence Fishburne Channels NBA Coach Doc Rivers in Limited Series Based on the Donald Sterling Scandal

Laurence Fishburne plays storied NBA Head Coach Doc Rivers during his ordeal coaching the Los Angeles Clippers under disgraced Clippers owner Donald Sterling in the upcoming FX limited series “Clipped,” which will premiere on Hulu.

The drama-filled new trailer features a lot of Fishburne playing Rivers during the moment in recent sports history when Clippers former owner Sterling infamously was outed for racist remarks about Black people, all caught on tape. Ed O’Neill (Modern Family) plays Sterling, and Jacki Weaver plays his wife and business partner, Shelly. Cleopatra Coleman stars as Sterling’s assistant, V. Stiviano, who infamously recorded his conversations, causing an uproar and captivating the American news cycle.

Here’s the synopsis on the limited series:

Famed coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) arrives as coach of the LA Clippers in 2013. With a promising roster of big personalities, Rivers has the building blocks to win the franchise’s first championship. The team’s owner, Donald Sterling (Ed O’Neill), is a well-known problem: he’s cheap, he’s erratic, he’s a bully. But minimizing Sterling’s influence to win a title becomes a personal quest for Doc. Meanwhile, a courtside power struggle escalates between Sterling’s ambitious personal assistant V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman) and his wife and business partner of 60 years, Shelly (Jacki Weaver). FX’s Clipped is an Obama-era story of racial reckoning delivered via meme, in which V. and the Sterlings discover who really has the power in the internet age, and which leaves Rivers and his players wondering if the expulsion of one bad apple brings about the transformative change the media wants to celebrate.

Clipped is based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcasts The Sterling Affairs. The limited series also stars Kelly AuCoin as Andy Roeser, J. Alphonse Nicholson as Chris Paul, Rich Sommers as Seth Burton, Corbin Bernsen as Pierce O’Donnell, Clifton Davis as Elgin Baylor and Harriet Sansom Harris as Justine.

Gina Welch is the creator and showrunner. She is the executive producer alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, Zanne Devine, Ramona Shelburne and Kevin Bray. Bray also serves as director of three of the six episodes.

Clipped is set to premiere June 4 on Hulu with back-to-back episodes.

Chloe Bailey plays opposite The Gladiator star Russell Crowe is the upcoming horror film, The Exorcism. Not to be confused with the classic horror film The Exorcist, this film is one of those film within a film ideas that might work with a spine tingling horror twist.

Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe stars as Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play.

As for Bailey, she plays an actress who takes precautions due to the subject matter of the movie she’s cast in, her character, not the real Bailey. But it’s clear from the jump scare worthy trailer. Crowe is the one who needs an exorcist.

2024 NFL Draft - Key Takeaways Surprises and Shockers

The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is in the books. Let’s just say it was nothing short of record-breaking night in Detroit. There were 275,000 fans in attendance. Wait, huh? That’s like the population of a small American city. That said, people LOVE football and those fans were able to experience the top college football players from all over the nation get called to their favorite teams. Here are a handful of takeaways from what became a night to remember in during the opening round.

Falcons Shock the World by Drafting Michael Penix Jr.
No one saw this coming. Some pundits didn’t even have Penix Jr. being drafted in the first round, let alone being a top 10 pick, ahead of players to the likes of J.J. McCarthy. The Falcons just spent $180 million in the offseason on Kirk Cousins with $90 million guaranteed. I get Cousins is 35 off an achilles injury but to take another QB in the top-10 is wild.

Patriots, Cardinals, Chargers and Giants Hold Off
For the last few weeks, there was plenty of chatter about trades that involved picks No. 3 through No. 6. Instead of crazy deal making, there were no trades until No. 10 overall. That happened with he Jets moving back just one spot. Bleh. The Patriots went after a quarterback, albeit for the future, and the Cardinals made a less surprising decision in electing to draft Marvin Harrison Jr., Jim Harbaugh took Joe Alt and the Giants may have found a playmaking receiver.

Six quarterbacks Taken in the Top 12
Everyone knew this would be a quarterback heavy draft for this class, but this was crazy. By the 10th pick, J.J. McCarthy was the fifth QB taken on his way to the Vikings. This marked the fastest ever that five signal callers were drafted that soon, beating out 2021’s record. Broncos may have found their QB in Bo Nix, making it the fastest the NFL took six QBs off the board.

Raiders Change Plans with Brock Bowers
Nobody saw six quarterbacks gone before the Raiders 13th pick so what next for Las Vegas? Drafting Bowers seems like it made sense. Scouts consider him a top playmaker who can run the ball, helping LV there also. That said, the Raiders need an o-line and help in the secondary. So let’s see what they do next.

SOURCE SPORTS: Ezekiel Elliott and Cowboys Agree to Reunion

a

Star running back Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys appear to have reconciled, pending a physical examination. NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero broke the news early Monday morning.

Elliott, a former multi-time Pro Bowler, returned to Dallas for discussions last Wednesday, signaling a potential reunion. Following the draft, where the Cowboys opted not to address the running back position, securing Elliott’s return becomes paramount.

The 28-year-old running back had a stint with the New England Patriots after his release in the 2023 offseason, where he led the team in rushing yards amidst a challenging season. Despite a change in scenery, Elliott’s prowess as a runner and pass protector remains formidable.

With his pending return, Elliott fills a crucial gap in the Cowboys’ backfield, joining a roster that lacked a clear RB1. He will add depth to a lineup currently featuring Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Royce Freeman.

As anticipation builds among fans, Elliott’s potential comeback signifies a significant development for the Cowboys’ offense, offering renewed hope for success in the upcoming season.
