We have some recent breaking news coming from UK rapper Fredo. The London, England will be in prison for five years in Dubai for drug possession. Interestingly, this is not the 29-year-old’s first run-in with the Dubai authorities. About three months ago, Fredo was arrested on similar charges in the United Arab Emirates for cannabis possession. Now, he will be finding himself back in familiar territory with this latest news bomb. For some reason, Fredo cannot keep himself out of trouble.

According to NME, authorities in North London handed down a three-year driving ban after speeding. All of that went down in June. Black Star is a prolific and influential rap duo born and bred in Brooklyn, New York, and consisting of Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli. The two MCs have made a massive mark on the hip hop soundscape, together, and in their solo catalogs, with a combined total of over a dozen LPs and mixtapes between them. Yasiin Bey recently made headlines due to his criticism of Drake, referring to the rapper’s prolific catalog as pop music, suitable to accompany day-time shopping at commercialized locations like Target. Long before he became known to the public as Yasiin Bey, the Brooklyn native headed Black Star under the stage name Mos Def. In fact, Bey abandoned the Mos Def moniker specifically because he felt that it was becoming more of a brand than an actual name. As a result, the known anti-corporate artist transitioned to publicly using his assumed name taken from the 36th surah of the Qur’an.
As a solo act, Yasiin Bey made waves with landmark releases such as Black On Both Sides, which touted such chart-topping records as “Ms. Fat Booty” and “Mathematics.” The rapper also holds an impressive career in television and film, having appeared in over 50 credited roles per IMDb. Bey most notably starred in films such as 2003’s The Italian Job, 2008’s Be Kind Rewind, and a 5-episode stint in the Showtime series Dexter. In addition to linking with Yasiin Bey, Kweli also released a memoir in 2021, titled Vibrate Higher: A Rap Story. The following year, the book won a PEN Oakland award. Most recently, Talib Kweli has been engaged in an ongoing feud with Consequence, resulting in the pair throwing near-daily shots at one another on social media, and occasionally dissing each other on wax.
The biggest pop culture story of the weekend seemingly isn’t losing steam any time soon. Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion sparked the most direct and high-profile rap beef in years. It began last month when Nicki Minaj dropped her new album Pink Friday 2. The album included lyrical references to Tory Lanez that many online interpreted as sneak disses aimed at Megan. The situation boiled over into full on public beef when Meg released her new single “HISS” last week.
While she doesn’t mention Nicki’s name directly in the new song, fans were able to read between the lines. In particular, a line referencing Megan’s Law caught fire online. Nicki has taken quite a maximal approach to her response. She’s posted dozens and dozens of tweets including one spanning hundreds and hundreds of words assembled nearly incoherently. She also eventually released a diss track of her own called “Big Foot.” Unfortunately, the track was maligned by many online for its choppy flows, borrowed lyrics directly from Nicki’s tweets, and many of her claims seeming to be flat-out lies. Despite that, fans are still paying a LOT of attention to both songs.
As it turns out, there are no songs fans are listening to more right now than “HISS” and “Big Foot.” The two tracks occupy the top two spots on Apple Music right now with Megan coming in on top and Nicki trailing just behind. As Chart Data points out, it’s the first time two female rappers have occupied the top two slots with solo singles.

While the movie is only now getting wild media buzz, it has actually been in development for a while. News of a potential biopic was first shared in November 2019, but it didn’t spread very far. Back then, it was announced that Oscar-nominated producer Graham King had secured the rights to produce an unnamed biopic about Michael Jackson. Additionally, it was revealed that Tony Award-winning writer John Logan would handle the screenplay.
Subsequently, in February 2022, the film’s distribution rights were officially acquired by Lionsgate. Principal photography was originally set to begin in mid-2023. However, it was unfortunately delayed for a while due to the then-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Following the end of the strike, a new date was set to begin principal photography. Subsequently, filming officially began on January 22, 2024.

The casting director for the film is Kimberly Hardin, and casting officially began in June 2022. So far, only three members of the cast have been announced. As aforementioned, Colman Domingo will be playing Joe Jackson, the famed patriarch of the Jackson family. In addition, Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew, is set to portray the King of Pop. This will be the 27-year-old’s acting debut, and many are eager to see how well he does. The third and final member of the cast who has been announced is Juliano Krue Valdi. He will be portraying a young Michael Jackson.
While we await other cast announcements, some members of the crew have also been revealed. The movie will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, and co-produced by Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain. Dion Beebe is billed to handle its cinematography, and Barbara Ling will be the production designer. Marci Rodgers is set to handle the costume design.
As principal photography only just begun, it will take a while before the movie is ready for the big screen. However, it is already being heavily publicized. Moreover, it’s set to be a big production, with a budget over $100 million. Until then, fans are left to imagine how Colman Domingo will expertly take on Joe Jackson.
