Lizzo Flexes Her 2023 Tour Stats In Spite Of Ongoing Controversy

If there was one story most music fans remember from Lizzo in 2023, it’s the controversial lawsuit filed against her by her former dancers. Fans were shocked last year to find that backup dancers who had worked with the popstar had filed a lawsuit against her and another one of her creative collaborators. The lawsuit leveled some pretty serious allegations of workplace misconduct which even included accusations of sexual abuse. While she was quiet for a while, the “About Damn Time Singer” has begun to return to both public events and social media.

But one particular social media post is dividing her fans. Lizzo has never been a stranger to flexing her accomplishments, though it’s normally in an attempt to motivate her fans. But in a new Instagram post, she flexes the impressive touring numbers she achieved in 2023 despite the controversy. “2024: $85,000,000 tour gross, 883,500 tickets sold, 68 dates, 14 countries, 3 continents. IM REALLY THAT GWORL” the caption of her new post reads. It’s attached to a trio of recent pictures and videos of the pop superstar. But in the comment section, there are plenty of fans expressing hesitation with her bragging. Check out the full post and fan reactions to it below.

Lizzo’s Massive Touring Numbers

In the comments there are plenty of fans uncomfortable with her flexing. “I mean, congratulations but Jesus,” one of the top comments on the post reads. And they aren’t alone. “This is so out of touch and tone deaf” and “Taylor and Beyonce don’t have to brag about their income. Please don’t be that girl. Be humble” two other comments read.

Lizzo hasn’t released much new material recently and much of the news surrounding her has been lawsuit developments. Last month she asked the court to seal the documents related to her sexual harassment lawsuit. News on the various suits filed against her has slowed in the weeks since. What do you think of Lizzo bragging about her touring numbers despite her outstanding harassment lawsuit? Let us know in the comment section below.

Rick Ross Allegedly Hits Tia Kemp With Cease And Desist Amid Cristina Mackey Drama

Rick Ross has been at the center of quite a bit of drama in recent weeks, most of which surrounds his relationship with Cristina Mackey. The mother of one of Ross’ kids, Tia Kemp, hopped on IG Live last week to roast Mackey for her cooking skills, prompting a response from the singer. Without naming any names, Mackey urged haters to mind their own business, suggesting that if they were happy in their lives they wouldn’t be so set on bringing her down.

Kemp fired back with full force, dubbing Mackey a “h*e,” and threatening to attack her. She even claimed to be suspicious about Ross’ upcoming urologist appointment, revealing that she had been snooping around his home the last time she was there. “I want to know what’s going on with you? Why you going to see a urologist?” she asked. “Is you getting ding dings extensions?” She later claimed that she’d ”send TMZ to his doctor” unless he paid her off.

Tia Kemp Claims She Has “Texts And DMs” To Back Her Up

It appears as though Ross has had enough of the drama, however, allegedly sending Kemp a warning to back off recently. She took to her Instagram Story to share photos of what appears to be a cease and desist letter. The alleged letter accuses her of “making disturbingly false and defamatory statements” about Ross and his family. It also claims that Ross “exclusively possesses the right to reap the benefits of commercial exploitation of [his] own name, likeness or identity.”

“He defamed me and my family for for years!” Kemp captioned one of the images, also claiming to have receipts. “F*ck all yall! Sue ME! I’m poor! and I got texts and dms, she wrote. What do you think of Tia Kemp alleging that Rick Ross’ legal team sent her a cease and desist? Are you surprised? Lizzo kept a relatively low profile in 2023. The Special Tour took up the first half of her year, but beyond that, she felt less present than she did in 2022, when she released her latest album, Special. (Of course, also in 2023 were those harassment lawsuits.) Speaking of albums, it’s been about a year and a half since her last one, but can fans expect a new LP soon?

Is Lizzo releasing a new album in 2024?

At the moment, no new Lizzo album has been announced for 2024. But, she’s definitely at least working on new music.

On Instagram yesterday (January 18), Lizzo shared a video of herself singing into a microphone, although the audio is muted. Sound returns, though, when Lizzo tells somebody off-camera, “I felt like Gwen Stefani in the ’90s on that one.” Lizzo also captioned the post, “To my dearest lizzo fans, the magic is back.”

Meanwhile, back in November, Lizzo noted in a different post, “Hi. I’m working.. on music, myself, relationships with people and food, my anxiety, my body, my business, and my trust issues with the world.. but they are deep now, deeper than they’ve ever been. Xoxo.”

Lizzo had a good start to her 2024: Her HBO concert special Lizzo: Live In Concert was nominated for an Emmy, for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). It didn’t win, but Lizzo was pumped just to be considered, as she shared on Instagram ahead of the show, “NAH IMA TALK MY SH*T… OUT OF 100s OF CONCERT SPECIALS THE EMMYS CHOSE MINE FOR OUTSTANDING VARIETY SPECIAL– ITS AN HONOR TO BE NOMINATED TONIGHT WITH LEGENDS! And to my SPECIAL TOUR FAMILY! THANK YOU– WE HAD A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE THAT *NO ONE* CAN TAKE AWAY FROM US.”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Sam Mewis, USWNT Star, Retires

Sam Mewis, a decade-long fixture of the US Women’s National Soccer Team, has announced her retirement from professional football at 31. “Unfortunately, my knee can no longer tolerate the impact that elite soccer requires. Though this isn’t what I wanted, this is the only path forward for me. I want to thank everyone who has been on my team throughout this journey. Soccer has put so many wonderful things in my life, but the most wonderful thing has been the people. To all my family, friends, teammates, and fans, I truly feel that we did this together and I’m extremely grateful,” Mewis wrote in a statement.

Nicknamed the “Tower of Power”, Mewis earned 83 caps for the US and scored 24 goals. That included a brace against Thailand at the 2019 World Cup during a match the US won 13-0. At the club level, Mewis won three NWSL titles (one with the defunct Western New York Flash and two with the North Carolina Courage). She also won a Women’s FA Cup in England with Manchester City. Furthermore, Mewis’ next move has already been announced. Soon after her retirement announcement, she was unveiled as the editor-in-chief for women’s soccer at the Men In Blazers media network.

Sam Mewis Latest USWNT Star To Retire

However, Mewis is just the latest big-name USWNT star to retire over the last 12 months. Ali Krieger was able to go out on top, winning a NWSL title with Gotham FC to end her career in 2023. Krieger made over 100 appearances for the national team between 2008 and 2019.

Also hanging up her boots in 2023 was Megan Rapinoe. Rapinoe announced that she would be retiring at the end of the 2023 season on July 8. “It is with a deep sense of peace & gratitude that I have decided this will be my final season playing this beautiful game. I never could have imagined the ways in which soccer would shape & change my life forever, but by the look on this little girl’s face, she knew all along,” she wrote on Twitter. That means the upcoming World Cup will be her last. Furthermore, Rapinoe’s final game will occur sometime in October or November, based on how well the Reign performs this season. The team entered as the defending NWSL Shield holders. The Reign would finish runners-up to Krieger and Gotham.
