Playboi Carti’s Absence On Lil Uzi Vert’s “Pink Tape” Gets Fans Down Bad On Twitter

Pink Tape is finally here, and fan consensus indicates that Lil Uzi Vert did not disappoint with this long-awaited release. However, there is one aspect of the album that disappointed fans and has them once again clamoring for online: where in the world is Playboi Carti? In the lead up to this album, Uzi teased an appearance time and time again, whether when they spoke on having the features that everyone wants or expects or by shouting Carti out on social media and previewed tracks. Still, the tracklist finally arrived, and the Whole Lotta Red star was nowhere to be seen. That being said, we still got a taste of what almost happened between them.

Moreover, when Lil Uzi Vert’s YouTube page posted the track “Patience” with Don Toliver, it allegedly contained a version with Playboi Carti and not the officially released version. Though those responsible fixed that quick, fans still clamored for the song to appear on a deluxe version in the reply section. In addition, a collab track called “Rich A** Bastard” also surfaced online that they apparently scrapped for Pink Tape. As such, even though fans lost hope when they saw the tracklist, there’s still a chance another team-up is around the corner.

Twitter Reacts To Playboi Carti Not Being On Pink Tape

If you’re curious to hear what could’ve been (or still could be), one user replied to the tweet above with a link to the leak. Elsewhere on Twitter, fans lamented the lack of Playboi Carti on Pink Tape with reaction videos, GIFs, memes, and a whole lot more. “Surely yeat and playboi carti are hidden features on pink tape right??” one fan wrote. Their tweet contained a GIF that sums up exactly how many die-hards feel right now: Spongebob clutching his pencil nervously like someone dying of hunger staring at a hamburger.

Meanwhile, there are certainly other features on Pink Tape that stole the show. For example, JT and Nicki Minaj recently went back and forth on Twitter talking about the latter’s verse on “Endless Fashion.” Apparently Nicki handed her verse in quickly after a long day’s work, and it resulted in a lot of standout lines. Hopefully Carti’s working hard in the studio to get his next verse in for Uzi, too. Regardless, check out more fan reactions below and stay up to date on HNHH for the latest on Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert.

Nelly’s Debut Album “Country Grammar” Turns 23

This year marks the 23rd anniversary of Nelly’s debut album, Country Grammar. The classic album arrived on June 27, 2000 via Universal Music Group and Fo’ Reel Entertainment. Country Grammar featured the likes of Cedric the Entertainer, St. Lunatics, City Spud, Murphy Lee, Ali, Lil Wayne, and The Teamsters. It was primarily produced by Jay E and City Spud. Country Grammar introduced Nelly’s signature style of melodic rapping that would eventually become a staple for 2000s hip hop and influence future generations. The album also contained major hits, many of which are still the biggest of Nelly’s career. With its chart-topping singles and unique sound, the album proved to be influential and helped define an era of 2000s hip hop. Today, we’re looking back at Nelly’s Country Grammar for its 23rd anniversary.

Country Grammar Put St. Louis On The Map

Country Grammar was quite literally Nelly introducing St. Louis sound and lingo to the world. His music transported listeners into a world that he would dive further into on 2002’s Nellyville. Drawing from Nelly’s Texas and Missouri origins, Country Grammar blended country with hip hop but was still palatable for both hardcore hip hop heads and casual listeners.

Nelly was an anomaly at the time as hip hop in 2000 was dominated by the East and West coasts and Southern rap. He has attributed his style as a blend of multiple regions that allowed him to create his own sound. The only other chart-topping rapper from the Midwest was Eminem, who occupied a completely different lane of music. As hip hop began to grow commercially in 2000, hip hop gained pop appeal, eventually becoming the world’s biggest genre. Country Grammar’s success took hip hop to new commercial heights.

Nelly’s sing-rap sound that he established on Country Grammar created a brand new style of hip hop. His pop/rap fusion put him at the forefront of the hip hop scene and established St. Louis as a city with talented rappers. Nelly’s signature sound and success with the album allowed future artists like Chingy and J-Kwon to represent St. Louis throughout the 2000s.

Stacked With Hits

A significant reason for Nelly’s debut album standing the test of time is that one could not escape it during its release. Country Grammar was the ultimate debut. It spawned multiple hit singles, becoming some of the biggest hip hop songs ever. The album’s title track and “E.I.” proved Nelly’s ability to create hit records with catchy hooks effortlessly. The third single from Country Grammar, “Ride Wit Me,” became the ultimate crossover hit. It was easily the biggest song of Nelly’s career at the time and remains an instantly recognizable anthem today. The overall commercial success of the album and its singles created a career-defining album for Nelly that only propelled him further with his following releases.

A Career-Defining Album

Country Grammar is undoubtedly Nelly’s classic album. With his critically acclaimed and commercially successful debut, Nelly was able to be one of the biggest rappers in the hip hop and pop spaces, dominating the 2000s. Country Grammar went platinum months after its release and now stands at diamond status, a 10x platinum achievement that very few rappers can brag about. Nelly’s debut album was influential in its sound, style, and appeal.

Twenty-three years later, the album is still being celebrated. In 2021, Nelly performed Country Grammar in its entirety for a live album accompanied by a documentary. The melodic rap sound that Nelly created on Country Grammar has stood the test of time. The album paved the way for the contemporary sound of hip hop that continues to tread the line between rapping and singing.

Pistons Reveal Steep Price For Bojan Bogdanovic

Bojan Bogdanović had a great year for the Detroit Pistons. Starting 59 games, Bogdanović put up 21.6/3.8/2.6 per game. Arguably his best season since the 2019-20 campaign, Bogdanović was a veteran contributor as the Pistons continue to rebuild. Despite this, the Pistons finished dead last in the Eastern Conference, winning just 17 games. While that was the worst record in the NBA, they did not win the sweepstakes for Victor Wembanyama. At the NBA Draft Lottery, the Pistons came away with the fifth-overall pick.

The team’s young core will look to climb the standings under new head coach Monty Williams. Meanwhile, Bogdanović keeps the Pistons on the hook for a team-high $19.5 million. However, it appears that the Pistons have been trying to move on from Bogdanović. Despite this, trade talks are not going well. Furthermore, fault seems to lie with the Pistons and their valuation of Bogdanović.

Bojan Bogdanović Trade Price Revealed

Per Matt Moore of Action Network, the Detroit Pistons are looking for a first-round pick and multiple second-round picks for Bogdanović. According to Moore, this has put off any potential suitors due to being too steep. When the Pistons traded for Bogdanović in September 2022, they sent Saben Lee and Kelly Olymk to Utah in exchange for him. Granted, Bogdanović led the Pistons with a career-high points per game. However, it’s not like Bogdanović suddenly turned into an MVP. Bradley Beal had better numbers across the board than Bogdanović, but the Wizards didn’t get a first-round pick for him.

Bogdanović, who starts a two-year, $39 million extension this season, does not represent a lynchpin for the Pistons if he stays or leaves. He is the veteran leader of the Pistons’ developing young core. With some believing that Detroit could be a dark horse in the East, team expectations will be centered on big years from Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson, Cade Cunningham, Killian Hayes, and Jalen Ivey. If the Pistons can grab some draft capital for Bogdanović, great. However, it appears they have a very unique perspective on what he’s worth.

YNW Bortlen’s Trial To Begin In October

YNW Melly has been in trial for some time now, accused of murdering his two friends, YNW SakChaser and YNW Juvy, in 2018. Melly’s defense claims the two young men were killed in a drive-by shooting, which investigators are arguing is impossible. Now, it’s been revealed that the only other surviving person in the vehicle on the night of the murders aside from Melly, YNW Bortlen, will also be on trial beginning in October. His trial starts October 2, 2023 at Broward County Courthouse, according to Bryson “Boom” Paul.

Today, Bortlen also appeared in court in Florida. His defense attorney motioned for the artist to work while he awaits the upcoming trial. Assistant State Attorney Kristine Bradley was opposed to the motion. She argued that Bortlen had previously violated his bond agreement. In January of 2021, Bortlen was found to have violated his pre-trial release conditions, as shown by his ankle monitor. Allegedly, the ankle monitor tracked him going to strip clubs and personal residences, when he was only supposed to travel for work.

YNW Bortlen Appeared In Court

A Broward County Courthouse spokesperson later confirmed that Bortlen’s pre-trial release had been revoked, and a judge reportedly called for him to be arrested. In January of this year, it was also reported that Bortlen provided information to the police regarding the night of the murders. Audio was released of Bortlen speaking with an unidentified person about the shootings. Though Bortlen didn’t share specific details in the audio, listeners speculate that he could have been speaking to a detective. Whether he was or not, Bortlen’s trial will be instrumental in the case.

Recently, hundreds of photos were submitted as evidence in Melly’s trial. Kristine Bradley submitted the photos, which featured various famous rappers. Artists like Drake, French Montana, Kevin Gates, and more have been previously mentioned throughout Melly’s trial. The photos included Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black, Young Thug, and more.

Man Tried To Blow Up Barack Obama’s House & Was Arrested, Had Jan. 6 Warrants

According to CBS News, authorities arrested a man outside of Barack Obama’s house for trying to blow it up. Moreover, officials believe the suspect participated in the January 6, 2021 attacks on the Capitol, which constituted an insurrection, as he has multiple active warrants for the incident. Furthermore, reports indicate that Secret Service agents spotted the suspect, Taylor Taranto, approaching the former president‘s home from blocks away. As he tried to flee, he ran towards Obama’s residency before agents took him into custody. Once more police forces arrived, they discovered his nearby van and found dangerous materials inside that suggested plans to damage the property.

To elaborate, authorities found multiple weapons inside the vehicle, as well as materials to make explosive devices. Specifically, Taranto allegedly possessed the necessary materials to make a bomb-like device similar to a Molotov cocktail. However, officials failed to find a pre-made or assembled explosive device, as all they got their hands on were the materials in question. Still, Taranto said that he actually had explosives in his possession, but first respondents did not find any in the vehicle or nearby.

Barack Obama’s Home Almost Bombed By Suspected January 6 Insurrectionist

What’s more is that state officials already had Taranto on their radar thanks to the aforementioned warrants and to more recent activity on social media. For example, he reportedly made multiple threats against Obama during livestreams, although the nature of these was not specified in published reports. In addition, he apparently reposted a post from former president Donald Trump on the platform Truth Social on Thursday (June 29). This post allegedly contained what was believed to be Obama’s home address, and while it’s unclear how accurate this information was, it apparently led him to the home regardless.

With all that in mind, officials believe that this attack was targeted. Taranto reportedly received charges of being a fugitive of justice, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Fortunately, other news concerning the former president as of late has been much more positive, and hopefully it returns to that trend. Regardless, stay posted on HNHH for the latest big news and updates on Barack Obama.

For Hip-Hop’s 50th Anniversary, Blue Note Jazz Fest Highlights The Genre’s Influences And Reach

Jazz thrives in cities with history: New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago. These cities are also places where you’d expect a new festival to pop up and have success, taking full advantage of a post-pandemic hunger for live music. The California iteration of the Blue Note Jazz Fest, now in its second year, is hundreds of miles away from these hubs for the genre, tucked between the beautiful peaks and canyons of Napa Valley.

This year’s Blue Note, sharing a name with the legendary label it’s created by, is centered around a lineup that pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. Mary J. Blige, Nas, and Chance the Rapper are in the headliner spots, with sets from Ari Lennox, Smino, De La Soul, Bilal, Lalah Hathaway, and a host of other greats across the Black music space who are all connected to, influenced by, and champions of hip-hop.

Hip-hop’s birth can be directly traced back to the Bronx in 1973, where turntables and spoken word collided. By the ’80s, its reach had gone far beyond the borough; artists began to reach for more complicated beats and lyrics that represented a complex image of the Black experience. Jazz samples built the bones for many of these songs, while the Jazz ethos built the attitude. Artists like Rakim & Eric B. and A Tribe Called Quest are the golden standard of this period: music that is urgent, frenetic, skillful. Created for and by Black people.

After inspiration from jazz fell out of fashion through the ’90s and early 2000s, its direct connection to hip-hop came back to center in a big way with To Pimp A Butterfly, the 2015 project that’s widely considered Kendrick Lamar’s best effort. It’s a dense, cerebral album layered with live jazz so complex that sometimes it’s hard to tell where the horns and drums end and the rapping begins. Despite its ambitious and politically-charged format, it was a monumental, critically acclaimed statement from rap’s newest visionary.

Robert Glasper, the jazz producer and pianist, was instrumental in many aspects of TPAB, from its jazz-centered concept, to writing and session playing for the album’s keyboards and synths. The record became a modern statement of excellence in every corner of music that it touched. Kendrick was elevated to great status, and brought those who were critical to the record’s creation with him into that arena, including Glasper. From that moment on, he became a connecting figure between modern jazz and hip-hop. Glasper is, without a doubt, taking up the mantle of being jazz’s most prolific and present leader.

Robert Glasper’s history with Blue Note is direct: he’s had an annual residency at their club in New York for years. Once the West Coast concept for a festival was solidified, Blue Note label head Steve Bensusan tapped Glasper personally to help him curate the lineup and get his network of West Coast jazz friends and collaborators onboard. Many of the same artists he’s performed with during his residencies and on his records are slated to make appearances at this year’s fest, all contributing to the small-world feel of the lineup.

“The club becomes the engine which then drives some of the other concerts or events that we produce in that market,” Bensusan explained to me while on-site at Silverado Resort a couple months ahead of the fest. After opening a club in Napa in 2019, then hosting a successful outdoor series and big-stage events, a festival was the next big step to conquer the music market in wine country.

The Napa version of Blue Note is designed to be more intimate than its East Coast sister event, which has existed since 2011. In Napa, attendees have the chance to experience multiple stages and genres on mid-sized grounds, without the overwhelming setup and crowds of most other festivals. This setup creates an experience where the music is central, and artists are more likely to be on top of their game and feed from one another’s energy.

With Glasper’s influence, Blue Note Napa is a gathering ground for new West Coast icons like Glasper, Terrace Martin, and Anderson .Paak to assemble, while giving shine to legends like George Clinton, Madlib, and Bobby McFerrin. Even though many of the festival’s acts aren’t straight-ahead jazz artists, the legacy of its name implies a certain air of musicianship that needs to be lived up to.

“Most of the time on the festival stage, you go see that one artist and that’s what you see, that’s what the festival is,” Glasper told us last year ahead of the festival’s first outing. “This one’s gonna be more cross-pollination, with a family-oriented kind of vibe. It’s smaller than most festivals on purpose,” he continued.

This year’s celebration of hip-hop is an important milestone, where the modern prestige of jazz and the acknowledgment of hip-hop as essential are both celebrated. Glasper himself explained it best: “There are so many amazing artists and trailblazers [in Black music] and to have them all in one festival represents so much and represents how free the music can be.”

Blue Note has the potential to be much more than a festival – the lineup alone can stand as music history: tracing the evolution of Black music at a time when it’s more present than ever in mainstream consciousness. Jazz is often considered prestige music, inaccessible to people who are young and disconnected from its history. Expertly curated lineups focused on a multi-generational slate of artists, like Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa, have the potential to connect the dots between all Black genres and make their relevance more apparent than ever.

Miami Heat Nix Conor McGregor Partnership After Mascot Stunt

Game 4 of the NBA Finals has gone down in infamy for Conor McGregor. He was accused of raping a woman just after the game concluded. However, he also sent the Heat’s mascot to the hospital. Partway through the third quarter, the UFC veteran came onto the court alongside Burnie, the Heat’s anthropomorphized fireball mascot. Burnie donned novelty boxing gloves before almost immediately being rocked by a 1-2 punch combo from McGregor. As the mascot writhed on the floor, McGregor sprayed him with a pain relief aerosol. The stunt had been set up to promote the spray, which McGregor co-owns.

However, it was later reported that the man inside the mascot costume had been sent to the ER and received pain medication following the incident. Later, McGregor said that he had visited the man. “The mascot is good. It was a skit, and all is well,” the MMA veteran said. “I spent a lot of time with him afterward, we talked it out, everything is great. It was all part of the show!” Despite McGregor’s assurances, it was likely not the promotion that Tidl Sport Recovery Spray was looking for. That appears to be the case given the latest news out of Miami.

Heat Reportedly Backing Out Of Deal With McGregor

MIAMI, FLORIDA – JUNE 09: Conor McGregor is seen on the court during a timeout in Game Four of the 2023 NBA Finals between the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center on June 09, 2023 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Megan Briggs/Getty Images)

“This was very bad for an otherwise crystal clean organization,” said an insider. “I can’t imagine the Heat brass want the Tidl Sports patch on their jerseys — it’s a reminder of the 24 hours of hell the organization went through.” Reportedly, the deal would have seen Heat players wearing branded patches on their uniforms in the 2023-24 season. However, it appears that the Heat want to distance themselves from the fighter. Literally KOing a team’s mascot will do that.

Furthermore, the other allegations from that night have given the Heat pause for concern. While there has been little progression in the case in recent weeks, McGregor is still accused of violently assaulting a woman at the Heat’s arena. Even if the accusations are proven to be false, it’s yet another thing that taints McGregor’s presence at the Kaseya Center. For the time being, it appears that Miami’s cashing out of the partnership with the pain spray.
