Over the weekend, YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul went eight rounds against Tyson Fury’s half-brother, Tommy Fury. Fury would end up winning in a split decision despite being knocked down in the last round, making the bout Paul’s first loss.
During the post-fight press conference, a reporter told Paul that Drake had bet $400k on him to win and asked if the “Drake curse” played a role in his loss.
Paul responded by jokingly blaming Drake for his loss.
“Did you hear about Drake betting $400,000 on you tonight and do you feel like that affected you through the Drake curse?” she asked.
Jake Paul responded: “Fuck! This is Drake’s fault! Drake, bro! Why you do this to me! Nah, it’s my fault, but $400,000 is nothing to him.
“He’s won a lot of money betting on me before so he’s probably about even now. Sorry, Drake. I’ma get that W in the rematch.”
For those unfamiliar with the Drake curse, athletes or teams tend to lose after Drake takes a photo with them or shows his support. The Drake curse started in 2013 after the Toronto Raptors named Drizzy their global ambassador then gained a reputation for choking big games. The next year, Drake showed support for Kentucky during March Madness but would end up losing to Wisconsin. The curse would continue until recent when of course the Raptors won the 2019 NBA finals, and after Drizzy shoes his support for Tyson Fury during his 3rd match with Deontay Wilder, which he won.
Young Guru recently took to Instagram where he showed concern over a video where someone used a Kendrick Lamar AI voice filter to make their voice sound like the Compton MC’s.
“This has dominated my Howard group chat for a couple days,” Guru said in the caption. “Ok I’m at the point where I can voice my concerns with our current state of AI. I have followed as many versions of what AI could do for some years now. I remember being at MIT and students showing me a project where they were actively feeding a computer ‘All’ the jazz records that ever existed. So that AI could analyze and create music in any style of any musician. I didn’t think we would get here this fast with the voice.”
He added that while he thinks the technology is impressive, he cant but think what could happen if or even when this technology gets into the wrong hands, saying that we are in a “very groundbreaking and dangerous moment.”
“Of course my mind goes to the ethical and legal aspects of what can be done with programs like Tacotron 2. You add that to the power of ChatGPT and you realize we are in a very groundbreaking but dangerous moment. It’s not the tech, it’s the evil that men do with the tech. There are legal aspects because at this present moment you can’t copyright a voice.”
He then envisioned a scenario where someone could use AI technology to make a song with their favorite rapper’s voice, or even worse. “The ability to create a Manchurian Candidate scares me. Think about that in every industry,” he continued. “There are still states that don’t even have a law against revenge porn. I’m sorry to go there but imagine the repercussion on our kids when 5 years from now some high school kid gets mad at his ex-girlfriend and creates a whole ‘deep fake’ that sounds and looks real. Imagine the political landscape where we can’t believe anything we hear because someone will claim they didn’t say it.”
Guru concluded by pushing for laws that prevent AI from being used in certain ways, but adding that we’re just getting started and have yet to see all that will come with AI.
“I don’t even want to continue giving examples for fear that someone will go out and do it. The law has to change to protect everyone not just Public Figures,” he wrote. “And the super scary part is that we are just getting started, we feed the beast constantly everyday with more and more content to be studied. Eleven years ago during the NBA All-Star Game, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by self-appointed Neighborhood Watch person George Zimmerman in his father’s neighborhood of Sanford, Florida, outside of Orlando. Martin was only carrying a can of Arizona Ice Tea and a pack of Skittles.
After Martin’s death and Zimmerman’s acquittal, a epidemic of young Black males dying at the hands of law enforcement and citizens alike hit the streets of America, such as Jordan Davis, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, Michael Brown, Akai Gurle and a host of others in which almost no one was held responsible for their deaths. In some of the cases, the municipalities of the cities where the deaths occurred, sued the estates of the deceased.
If Trayvon would’ve lived the life of a normal teenager instead of being killed by an overzealous citizen, he would be 28 years old. Even President Obama made a declaration at the time of Martin’s death, saying, “Trayvon Could’ve Been Me”, which sent shockwaves across the globe. The death of Trayvon marks a dramatic turning point in the history of America and proves that racism is alive, well and as American as an NBA All Star Game.
Tekashi 6ix9ine is now one car shorter after crashing his colorful Rolls Royce Phantom. In a clip that has hit social media, 6ix9ine can be seen looking to get a ride after damaging his expensive whip.
6ix9ine has spent plenty of time in Miami lately, but he won’t be allowed in a certain restaurant again. In January, the rainbow-haired rapper was in El Tiesto Cafe but was tossed out for reckless behavior.
According to Page Six, 6ix9ine and his entourage of 20 people were in the restaurant, and he went behind the bar without permission and poured tequila into the mouths of other customers for free. While 6ix9ine was pouring, his friends danced on top of the bar.
A source stated while 6ix9ine was tossed, it appeared to just be too much for that one night. He was seen hugging people who worked at the restaurant by the security stand on his way out.
“He’s friends with the owner,” the source said. “He’s here all the time.”
6ix9ine would leave the restaurant in the multicolored Rolls Royce that he now wrecked.
Sean Kingston is headed to court over designer watches that he has not paid for.
According to The Blast, Kingston is being sued by Dream Watch after he secured watches for himself. The watches were a $534,000 Richard Mille and the second a Phillippe Calibre that cost $378,000, a combined $912,000.
The company also states Kingston had a representative from the company fly from Malaysia to Kingston’s home in California to deliver the watches.
Kingstone agreed to buy the watches on May 9, agreeing to send the money over by wire transfer. The transfer was declined, and he stated his account was frozen. Kingston would eventually stop corresponding with the company, never paying the money.
Trevor Ariza has surrendered four guns to the Los Angeles Police Department as part of a restraining order laid against him by his estranged wife. In response, Ariza states his wife was abusive to him and has filed for a temporary restraining order.
Last week, Radar Onlinenotes Ariza turned over 2 Glocks and 2 AR-15s, which will be held on until the matter of the restraining order is resolved. In an update, The Blast notes Ariza is asking for the order after his wife yanked hair out of his head.
Ariza states his estranged wife, Bree Anderson, went into a fit of rage once his new girlfriend called him. “Bree grabbed me by my hair and violently ripped a dreadlock right out of my scalp. Bree almost entirely ripped a second dreadlock out of my scalp as well. This second dreadlock was left dangling from my scalp by a few hairs,” Ariza wrote in the request.
Ariza also stated during that altercation, Anderson grabbed the steering wheel while he was driving and pulled the car in an attempt to drive off the road.
“Bree’s unexpected and dangerous action nearly caused me to lose complete control of my vehicle. My car abruptly veered over two lanes of traffic to the right.”
Ariza also states he fears for his children’s lives and has previously been physically harmful to them.
Last week, court docs stated the ball player has been abusive to Bree during their marriage and is looking to secure safety while filing for divorce. She states Ariza “engaged in acts of extreme physical abuse towards” her.
“He was verbally and emotionally abusive to me. Some of the abuse occurred in the presence of our children,” Bree wrote. “I have been financially dependent on Trevor throughout our marriage.”
During their divorce proceedings, Bree stated Ariza would show up unannounced and let himself in. Bree also stated in August 2021, Ariza choked her until he almost passed out and punched her multiple times.
Bree requested a temporary restraining order, and the judge approved her request, preventing Ariza from approaching within 100 yards. The court scheduled a hearing for March 8 to decide whether to grant a permanent restraining order.
Jeff Bezos’ effort to buy the Washington Commanders will go unheard. According to The Athletic, the billionaire’s effort to buy the NFL franchise was shut down.
Bank of America, who represents the Commanders, alerted Bezos, stating he would not be allowed to pursue a purchase. Worth noting, Bezos currently owns The Washington Post, which published posts on a hostile work culture within the franchise, one of the many factors that led to the potential sale. The Commanders are currently owned by Daniel Snyder, who also believes the paper had a desire to push him out of the league.
The New York Post added Snyder may attempt to hold on to the team if his asking price is not met.
Prior to his hiring, new Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bienimy questioned the team president, Jason Wright, on the status of a potential sale. “Eric, just like the rest of us, sees the transition as one that’s good for the organization … There’s nothing but upside for the organization, and we’ve already had a lot of success in rebuilding the football side of the business from where we started when Ron took over.”
First rounds of bidding recently closed and were reportedly less than $6 billion. Snyder is reportedly seeking $7 billion.
Bezos has long been rumored to have the desire to partner with JAY-Z on ownership. In November 2022, when asked about entering a bid for the Washington Commanders with JAY-Z. He played coy, but it definitely sounds like he has an interest.
Speaking with CNN, Bezos didn’t quiet the rumors, instead leaving the moment open-ended when asked about a potential purchase.
“Yes, I’ve heard that buzz,” Bezos said. “I grew up in Houston, Texas, and I played football growing up as a kid… and it is my favorite sport… So we’ll just have to wait and see.”
According to TMZ, Hov has long had an interest in purchasing the team but would need a partner. Bezos also has an interest in the team and has ties to the area as he is the owner of The Washington Post. There is also the deal between Prime Video and the NFL.
According to ESPN, the options range from a potential sale of the team to possibly adding minority investors.
“The Snyders remain committed to the team, all of its employees and its countless fans to putting the best product on the field and continuing the work to set the gold standard for workplaces in the NFL,” the team said in the statement.
Alongside the sale is the investigation by Congress of Snyder for the workplace culture under his leadership. That investigation is coupled with one from the NFL for alleged sexual misconduct, which previously resulted in a $10 million fine for the team.
President Joe Biden could be eyeing a repeat at the presidency. But what does his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have to say about it? She had a simple answer: “I’m all for it.”
Dr. Biden spoke with CNN and was asked did President Biden thought about not taking on a second term.
“Not in my book,” Dr.Biden said. “I’m all for it, of course.”
As of yet, President Biden has not formally announced a reelection campaign. Meanwhile, republican candidates are continuing to announce their candidacies.
While she is supportive, Dr. Biden is making sure that it is solely the decision of her husband. “And we support whatever he wants to do. If he’s in, we’re there. If he wants to do something else, we’re there too.”
In January, Dr. Biden had three skin lesions removed on Wednesday, two of which were detected as cancerous. The cancerous tissue was removed and she was expected to return to the White House later in the day as advised by her doctor.
President Biden accompanied his wife to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, just outside of Washington, where he stayed with his wife for nearly eight hours, leaving only after O’Connor’s report was released. The president returned to the White House in the late afternoon with hopeful news.
Dr. Kevin O’Connor, physician to the president, said, “The first lady is experiencing some facial swelling and bruising, but is in good spirits and is feeling well.”
A week before, the White House announced that the first lady would be having Mohs surgery to remove a small lesion above her right eye that had been found during a routine skin cancer examination.
Basal cell carcinoma was confirmed by Dr. O’Connor, as he stated, “All cancerous tissue was successfully removed, and the margins were clear of any residual skin cancer cells.” Doctors found two more lesions while the first lady was at the hospital as they prepared the first lady for surgery. O’Connor reported the removal of a second lesion on Jill Biden’s left eyelid that has been sent for microscopic examination.
Doctors further identified “an additional area of concern” on the left side of her chest, and removed a lesion using Mohs surgery. Basal cell carcinoma was also confirmed in that lesion, O’Conner said, mentioning all cancerous tissue had been removed. Basal cell carcinoma is not a notoriously aggressive form of cancer and does not spread as fast as other serious skin cancers do. However, they can increase in size, leading to a more difficult removal.
First lady Jill Biden has been a continuing advocate for cancer research– traveling to cancer research and treatment centers. Her passion is inspired by the breast cancer diagnosis of four of her friends in 1993, reported The White House. In 2015, her son Beau Biden died from brain cancer. President Joe Biden started the “Cancer Moonshot,” an initiative to drastically reduce the number of deaths caused by cancer,during his first year as vice president. Cancer Moonshot was relaunched in 2022.
The Skin Cancer Foundation reports that the Mohs procedure was developed in the late 1930s by surgeon Frederic Mohs and is used to remove basal and squamous cell carcinomas. Basal cell carcinomas are the most common type of skin cancer and are typically mild due to slow growth. Treatability has high success when detected early.
The surgery begins with locating and marking the spot. The area is then anesthetized to numb it, but patients remain awake. The doctor then removes a visible layer of skin tissue from the area and takes it to the lab to be analyzed. In the lab, they cut the tissue into sections, dye it and map out the area it was taken from. A technician freezes the tissue, further slices it thinly into horizontal sections and places it under a microscope for examination. If cancer cells are present, another layer is removed from the surgical site and the process repeats until the cancer cells are gone.
