Raekwon Gave Quavo & Takeoff His Blessing For “Only Built For Infinity Links”
Years and years after Wu Tang Clan changed the game, its top-tier MCs like Raekwon the Chef are still getting their flowers from hip-hop’s current elite. Or links, in this case. Atlanta icons Quavo and Takeoff referenced The Chef in the title for their upcoming album Only Built For Infinity Links, set to drop on October 7th, and Quavo recently told TMZ that they were blessed by the New York native himself.
The Migos members now known as Unc and Phew announced their album’s release back in September, a few months after dropping the single “Hotel Lobby” in May. The title is a reference to Raekwon’s classic 1995 album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…, which is considered by many to be one of the best hip-hop albums of the ’90s and the pinnacle of the era’s mafioso rap. With all of Migos’ bars about whipping in the kitchen and putting masks down, it’s not hard to see the lineage that Unc and Phew are honoring.
“We most definitely hollered at Raekwon,” Quavo told TMZ at Los Angeles International Airport. “It was all love. We gave him respect. We told him it would be an honor, and we’re dropping this album called Only Built For Infinity Links, and it’s inspired by y’all. So we just wanted to let you know we respect the OG’s and we most definitely love Wu-Tang, got respect for Wu-Tang, but right now this is what it’s about.”
He also proclaimed the project to be “the greatest album of all time.” The duo dropped the tracklist for the presumed masterpiece in early September, and it boasts 21 tracks and features from Young Thug, Gunna, NBA YoungBoy, Summer Walker, and more. Despite stirring some pots when he posted a picture kicking it and smoking with Quavo back in August, the Wu Tang clansman is unfortunately not on the album.
As for the missing third of Migos, Offset is unsurprisingly not on Infinity Links, but will be dropping a solo project of his own on November 11th. We’re still not super sure if the rap trio had a falling out or not, but some comments that Quavo made to GQ don’t indicate any bad blood.
“It was all about Migos, Migos, Migos. The three of us,” he said about the group’s early career. “I feel like every group member has to establish themselves. Their own body of work. If not, you start losing members.”
All the Migos have done so, with solo projects being celebrated parts of their respective trajectories. It’s similar to how Raekwon carved his name into the hip-hop books beyond his contributions to the Wu and continues to work on new material. Cuban Linx went platinum in February, its 2009 sequel was also well-received, and teases of a third installment are practically integral to Raekwon’s social media presence at this point.
“Right now, I’m going to give you another project before we actually give you the III,” he told HipHopDX back in November. “Because the III, we’re still curating that to make it strong. But being that time is really moving, I already have something else on deck that’s going to open up the vessel for Cuban Linx III to come out down the line. So, just get ready though.”
History’s repeating in the hip-hop game. WIth this cosign, Quavo and Takeoff are poised to deliver one of the most notable hip-hop releases for the rest of the year.
Freddie Gibbs Baby Mama Blasts Rapper After Call Out In “$$$”
Freddie Gibbs has finally released his new album, $oul $old $eperately. The project has been eagerly anticipated by fans, and hasn’t disappointed. The tracklist boasts features from the likes of Rick Ross, Scarface, Moneybagg Yo, Pusha T, Offset, Anderson .Paak, Raekwon, and more. As for Gibbs, his lyrical abilities appear to be as sharp as ever.
Lyrics on one song off the album, however, have poked a hornet’s nest. On “Grandma’s Stove,” Gibbs discusses his relationship with his baby mama, Raven Tatum. “Rap deadbeat daddy, that’s how thеy try to paint me,” Freddie laments on the track. “And that’s a shame ’cause those that know me know I love my babies / Raven was a rat, she scratched the Benzy and I dropped the charges / That ho know she’d never had my heart, so she attacked my pockets.”
Raven took no time to respond to the callout on Twitter. In since-deleted tweets, Tatum ripped into Gibbs and gave her side of the story. “I don’t like addressing BD drama,” she wrote. “But since Fred decided to call me by name on his album, let’s dispel some rumors.”
She proceeded to list her corrections and verifications. “1. I sure did key his car. And I’ll do it again,” she threatened. “He refused to watch our son and I got fired from UCLA because I had no babysitter. F**k my job? F**k your car.”
“Tbh the car was light work,” she elaborated. “He was in Europe with one of his many flunky girlfriends when I got fired. I wanted to beat the f**k out of him but he wasn’t in America so I picked the most expensive thing in the house and f**ked it up. If I lose a 6 figure job u lose a 6 figure car.”
“2. we weren’t in love,” Raven continued. “I never wanted to be in a relationship with him. He was engaged I was separated. I got pregnant. Erica offered to pay me to abort and I told her to f**k off and go to hell. She found out and put him out of her house. Tell the whole story Fred.”
Raven went on to allege that Gibbs is in fact a deadbeat, and that he barely sees his son. “Truly tired of being the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong in this n***a’s life,” she concluded.
Rapper Big Pooh On His New Album ‘To Dream In Color’ And How Reinvention As A Manager And DJ Has Kept Him In The Game
Neek Bucks & 2 Chainz “Mask Up”
Neek Bucks has been on the rise for a while now. The Harlem rapper garnered respect for earlier projects like El Barrio and El Barrio 2, and as a result, he isn’t wanting for confidence. He named his last full-length album Neighborhood Hov, which boasted some big features, including Benny the Butcher, G Herbo, and Lil Tjay.
Now, Bucks has teamed up with another big name: 2 Chainz. On “Mask Up,” the two rappers deliver hard bars over an equally hard beat. Both artists are all business, talking up their lifestyles and down their ops.
With talk of masks comes the obligatory COVID references: “Bro got the stick in the party, he don’t got Corona but he like to mask up,” raps Bucks. 2 Chainz heightens the reference with some deft lyrical acrobatics to start his verse: “Mask on, Glock .19, Covid 19, worth 19K when I was nineteen / Shoot you twice just like a vaccine.”
The song is in and out. Neek delivers a quick chorus and a verse, Chainz gives a guest verse, and Neek closes out with another rendition of the chorus. Its brief length means the song never loses its energy, and is sure to warrant a replay.

Kodak Black Reminds Us “[He’s] So Awesome” On Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist
It was a huge weekend for new hip-hop releases, and our latest Fire Emoji playlist update clearly reflects that.
At the top of the Saturday (October 1) roundup comes a selection from Freddie Gibbs’ new $oul $old $eparately album, “Zipper Bagz,” following the Indiana native’s appearance last weekend with the James Blake-produced tune, “Dark Hearted.”
As far as collaborations go, Smino and J. Cole stole the show with their “90 Proof” joint track, although Quavo and Takeoff also caught our attention with their “Nothing Changed” effort.
Kodak Black has been steadily sharing new music all throughout 2022, and his most recent arrival comes in the form of a braggadocious solo single called “I’m So Awesome.”
“Flex on these n*ggas, I make it look easy / I’m draggin’ my nuts, they be all on my Fiji / Drippin’ on these bitches, they eatin’ my spit up / Ran out of gas, I’ma need me a fill up,” the Florida native raps.
Other standout selections from Gibbs’ album include “PYS” featuring DJ Paul and “Gold Rings” with Pusha T, while from YG’s new I GOT ISSUES project, we picked “No Weapon” in collaboration with Nas as our favourite.
Closing out our list is two more joint tracks – the first from DDG’s It’s Not Me It’s You (“9 Lives” with Polo G and NLE Choppa), and the second from Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic (“Somewhere to Fly” featuring Don Toliver).

24kGoldn Releases New Single “Mistakes”
24kGoldn has been on quite the streak recently. The San Francisco rapper has dropped single after single this year, including the BOYCOLD collaboration “SCAR” and “In My Head,” an angsty track fittingly featuring Travis Barker.
Now, 24kGoldn has given us a low-key song sans features. On “Mistakes,” it’s little more than the “Valentino” rapper and a guitar. The guitar, tinny and understated, strums out a simple melody which 24k uses as his hook.
The rapper croons of past blunders and moving on. “I’m pulling the blinds and shutting my eyes / Tryna forget about yesterday,” he declares on the chorus. He insists to a lover that he’s a changed man, albeit a flawed one. There’s not much more 24k has to say on the subject, and the song clocks in at just over two minutes. In the end, the short tune is about being honest with yourself and with loved ones about who you are.
Check out the song below and let us know what you think of it.
Quotable Lyrics
This for the loners, the f**k-ups and stoners
The faded but focused, processin’ emotions
As pain washes over, we shakin’ ’em boulders
Off all of our shoulders, yeah, yeah, yeah

Jim Jones Rips Into BET For Not Letting Him Attend Hip Hop Awards
Even though it won’t be put on air until Tuesday (October 4), the BET Hip Hop Awards were last night. As usual, the ceremony brought out some of the biggest names in the industry as awards were doled out for outstanding achievements in the genre. Some big names, however, were conspicuously absent.
Jim Jones was one of such names, and according to the rapper, it wasn’t for lack of trying. He took to Instagram to blast BET for barring him from attending the gathering.
“I was tryin to go to th bet hip hops awards and support my brother @fatjoe and this how a @bet handled me lol,” wrote Jones, captioning a screenshot of BET’s response to his request for attendance. “Thank you for your inquiry!” the organization had said. “At this time, we are unable to accommodate additional audience talent requests. Due to COVID-19 protocols in place, this year’s show and red carpet are reserved for in-show talent, nominees and select participating network partners only.”
Jones wasn’t happy with BET’s excuse. “They still talkin Covid and th cdc says ain’t no more Covid lol,” he wrote.
Jones was trying to attend so that he could support Fat Joe, who is a close friend of his and who was hosting the show. “Lol Dam @BET I thought this was th hip hop award show,” continued Jones. “Somebody tell @fatjoe I tried don’t want him think I ain’t keep my word told him I was comin But BeT says different mayb next time tear tht shit down joe.”
