Russ Says Record Labels Will Become ‘Obsolete’ And Artists Don’t Need Them

There has been a lot of discussion about major labels in the wake of the Halsey controversy, in which they claimed that their label wouldn’t let them release a song until they had a viral TikTok moment first. In a recent interview with TMZ Live, rapper Russ, who never hesitates to share his beliefs, has weighed in with his opinion on major labels.

“I do think at some point [major labels] will become obsolete, just because the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. You don’t need them; they’re not doing anything for you that you can’t do for yourself,” he said. “I just think that some artists are not very business-minded and they kinda just want to be the artist, so that’s why they go the label approach so that they have a team that does everything for them.”

He added: “But you can get a team to do everything for you and still just be the artist without the label. Artists in today’s day and age, they’re their own digital marketing. I think digital marketing is one of the biggest facades in the music industry. You get with the label and they’re like, ‘Here’s your digital team.’ And it’s like, ‘What do y’all do exactly?’”

Deshaun Watson Allegedly Offered $100K To His Accusers

Deshaun Watson is currently facing 23 sexual misconduct lawsuits. He was originally facing 22 but this past week, a woman by the name of Nia Smith came out and put her name into the ring. Watson is currently with the Cleveland Browns, however, these cases threaten his first season with the team, and there is a lot of uncertainty as to what is going to happen next.

Now, according to Pro Football Talk, Smith is making a huge allegation against the Browns star. In her lawsuit, she states that Watson tried to settle with all of his accusers by offering them $100,000. What is very interesting is that 18 of the 22 women were actually interested in taking the money. However, all 22 women needed to approve of the settlement if it was going to work out.

Per Florio:

“Here’s the quote, from footnote 2 to the petition filed against Watson by Nia Smith: ‘Of course, we now know that Deshaun Watson offered each Plaintiff $100,000 to settle their cases, but not all would accept that amount, due to the aggressive nondisclosure agreement that Watson’s team proposed.'”

These allegations are pretty massive although it remains to be seen what will come of this. The civil suits are still ongoing and for now, Watson’s career is in a state of limbo.

Quotable Lyrics
Back in 2002, I was workin’ with a vacuum seal
Smoke from the crack fumes and I don’t even know what to do with the bathroom mirror
Used to get picked on ’cause I never had new gear
N***as gon’ hate so I can’t take that too serious

Steph Curry Reacts To Blowing Lead In Game 1 Of The Finals

Heading into Game One of the NBA Finals, most fans thought that the Golden State Warriors would come away with the win. They were starting the series with home court advantage and they have all of the experience in the world. In the end, however, the Warriors lost the game in stunning fashion despite being up by 15 points in the third quarter.

In fact, Steph Curry started the game on a hot streak as he had 21 points in the first quarter. Eventually, Curry cooled down and finished with 34 points. Regardless, it was not enough to make up the 12-point difference that the Celtics ultimately won by.

After the game, Curry spoke about the loss and how the team intends on coming back from it. He knows the Warriors have been through worse, and he is ready to show the world that they have what it takes to beat this Celtics roster.

“It’s not ideal,” Curry said via ESPN. “But I believe in who we are and how we deal with adversity, how we responded all year, how we’ve responded in the playoffs after a loss. So learn a lot from that fourth quarter.”

Game Two is going to be a dog fight and the Warriors must win it. Going down 2-0 on the way to Boston would be a disaster and as the Celtics have shown, their defense is absolutely no joke.

Barack Obama Reunites With Young Boy Who Touched His Hair, 13 Years Later

Barack Obama

A few months after former President Barack Obama took office, five-year-old Jacob Philadelphia stepped into the Oval Office with his father who was then a National Security Council staffer, mother and older brother, unaware that he would become part of the legacy of America’s first Black commander-in-chief.  During the short visit, Jacob quietly asked the President, “I want to know if my hair is just like yours,” After hearing the question, Obama remarked: “Why don’t you touch it and see for yourself?” bending over to a hesitant Jacob with Obama insisting “Touch it, dude!”  White House Photographer Pete Souza Captured the moment and named the shot “Hair Like Mine” which would go viral and become one of the most iconic shots of his presidency.  Jacob, now 18 years old, graduated from high school in Uganda last week. Ahead of his graduation , Jacob got a chance to reflect on the image on a surprise call with the former President.  “That was a pretty big highlight of my life,” Jacob said of the photo. “It is very wonderful to see representation in the government because if I get to see another Black man be at the top, be at that pinnacle, then I want to follow that lead.”  Jacob also shared with the former president that he plans on attending the University of Memphis and study political science.  “I think the White House visit clearly inspired you, I hope,” Obama said. “Yes, it really has,” Jacob responded.  Former President Barack Obama shared the video on Twitter with the caption. “Jacob Philadelphia was five years old when he visited the Oval Office and asked if his hair was like mine. That photo became one of our favorites – a reminder of the power of seeing yourself in your leaders. Today, he’s graduating from high school! Check out our recent reunion.” Take a look at the inspiring moment below.
