YSL Alleged Co-Founder Turns Himself In On RICO Charges: Report

A person that the state claims is a co-founder of Young Slime Life has turned himself in on RICO charges, WSB-TV Atlanta reports. Walter Murphy was among the 28 individuals named in the RICO indictment against YSL, alongside both Thug and Gunna. However, Walter is reportedly not in contact with any one of the members.

He denied that YSL was a is a street gang, describing it as “a record label or a family.” He added that he was a tour manager for the label in its early stages. The past connection to the label ultimately led to his inclusion in the indictment. He already pled guilty to the crimes he’s accused of committing. Murphy was charged with one count of RICO conspiracy but he’s accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and an attempted murder involving four different people over the course of three years.

However, Murphy’s attorney Jacoby Hudson said that his client took an Alfred Plea, meaning that he pled guilty for reduced charges. Murphy explained that he already paid his debt to society.

“I spent seven years in prison,” Murphy said. “While I was in prison, you know, I stayed out of they way and I just got my GED, completed all my classes, completed the transitional center. I transitioned back into… the world. I got me a job at the transitional center.”

Hudson revealed that prosecutors tried to convince Murphy to cooperate against alleged YSL members, which he declined. He was released on parole earlier this year.

Russell Westbrook Offers Subdued Reaction To Darvin Ham Hiring

Russell Westbrook’s first season with the Los Angeles Lakers was one to forget. From a shooting standpoint, he had one of the worst seasons of his career, and his statistics weren’t all that great either. He could not seem to get things going no matter how hard he tried, and when it was all over, he had Lakers fans wanting to trade him for a bag of fresh Spaldings.

Westbrook blamed Frank Vogel for his struggles, noting that the former Lakers head coach didn’t know how to utilize him. Recently, the Lakers hired a new head coach in Darvin Ham, and now, there is this real belief that Ham can help turn Westbrook’s time in L.A. around.

As reporter Anthony Irwin noted on Twitter, Westbrook still doesn’t seem all that enthusiastic about his new head coach. Instead of welcoming him on board with some nice words through social media, Westbrook simply reported the Lakers who announced the move. Westbrook offered nothing in the way of extra words, which seemed indicative of someone who was rather indifferent to the news.

The Lakers are reportedly leaning towards keeping Westbrook, and they will need him fully on board if they want success this year. Hopefully, Ham can make Westbrook into a better player, especially at this point in his career.

Drake Takes Shots with Fans in Detroit

Drake got a proper welcome when he visited Detroit.

The rapper stopped by Joe Muer Seafood where he ran into two fans who invited him to take shots with them at the bar.

Brittney Keara, who filmed the interaction, asked Drake for his choice of drink. She said she was a “whiskey type of girl,” to which Drake responded, “Oh no, I need tequila.” When she suggested Casamigos, he opted for something a little pricier, Don Julio 1942.

They then toasted as Brittney welcomed the 6 God to her city. “Appreciate you. Welcome to the D!” she said.

After the video went viral, Brittney spoke to TMZ about her surprise run-in with Drizzy. She said that she and her friend were enjoying happy hour when Drizzy walked in with a couple of bodyguards. He initially turned down Brittney’s drink offer, saying he was heading to the airport for a flight, but he ended up coming back to the bar and taking shots with them.

Brittney ordered a shot of Jack Daniel’s, but Drake upgraded her to Johnny Walker. He ended up picking up the tab and Brittney says he couldn’t have been nicer.

Brittney’s friend played it cool, but she later admitted to being a Drake super-fan. “I’m legit screaming cause i love that man and idk how she kept her composure I’m sucha fan girl for him,” she tweeted.

A Teen Young Thug Fan Was Arrested For Making Death Threats Against The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department

When 28 members of Young Thug’s Atlanta-based YSL crew were arrested for racketeering — including Gunna and Young Thug himself — fans were understandably distraught. However, one fan, in particular, took things a little too far according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, which told FOX5 that it had arrested the teenaged offender after he made death threats against the Sheriff and the Fulton County Clerk.

18-year-old Quartavius Mender was taken into custody on May 26 after commenting on Sheriff Pat Labat’s Instagram posts, saying that he would kill Labat, Labat’s wife Jackie, and Atlanta Public Schools Police Chief Ronald Applin unless the defendants in the case were set free. While Fox’s report is vague about just which defendant Mender was referring to, it’s probably safe enough to guess who the “high-profile defendant” was. Mender has been charged with 23 counts of terrorist threats, which are all felonies, and he has not been granted bond as yet.

“We take these kinds of brazen threats seriously,” Labat told the local news. “Social media cyberbullying, and hiding behind a keyboard will not protect someone from criminal prosecution. Our investigators are diligent in seeking individuals who mean to do harm to anybody, and I am grateful to them for ensuring the safety of myself, my wife, and all citizens of Fulton County.”

Young Thug, Gunna, and their YSL cohorts were all arrested and charged under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act for being a hybrid street gang responsible for dozens of counts of violent crimes, from armed robbery to murder. However, the case has also drawn criticism for including the two rappers, as the majority of the evidence listed against them in the 88-page indictment came in the form of their own lyrics, which prosecutors used to draw the connection between them and the alleged gang. Most recently, Young Thug and Gunna were both denied bond, as the judge felt they could both be flight risks or even tamper with witnesses.

Deshaun Watson’s Lawyer Makes Controversial Comments Regarding Lawsuit

The Cleveland Browns new quarterback, Deshaun Watson, has had one of the most controversial years of any NFL quarterback. Even after Watson was cleared of criminal charges by a grand jury back in March, he still faces 23 civil suits and a potential suspension from the NFL due to accusations of sexual assualt from workers in massage parlors.

Now, with his civil trial looming and his future in the NFL unclear, Watson’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, made comments on the Payne and Pendergast radio program that have added another layer of  controversy to the situation.

“I don’t know how many men are out there now that have had a massage, that perhaps, occasionally there was a happy ending,” Hardin said. “I do want to point out, if it has happened, it’s not a crime.”

Hardin continued with his tirade, saying “Unless you are paying somebody extra, to give you some type of sexual activity, it’s not a crime. At the end of the day, doing something or saying something or being in a way that makes you uncomfortable is not a crime.”

While Hardin’s comments are correct in that Watson has been cleared of criminal charges, his status for the 2022-2023 season is still up in the air. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell does not need criminal charges to be filed to take action against Watson. Due to recent agreements in the new CBA, an objective party will make a ruling and recommendation to the league regarding the former Houston Texans’ status.

Thus, there remains a chance that Watson may miss parts of or all of next season. This could explain why the Browns have not yet traded Baker Mayfield. Regardless, the quarterback situation in Cleveland will continue to develop in the next few months before the season begins.
