These Photos Show Sol Blume Festival Is A Dream Escape For R&B And Hip-Hop Lovers

This past weekend, Sol Blume festival returned to Sacramento, CA for the time since 2019. Held at Discovery Park – with its sweeping 300-acre riverfront grounds – the third edition of the festival saw a powerful, all-female headlining bill in Jazmine Sullivan, Jorja Smith, Summer Walker and Jhene Aiko.

In recent years, we’ve seen lineup figures cross the 30 percent mark of female-led acts on the bill, but that number seldom affects the headlining slate, which is typically dominated by male artists. Some festivals recently made it a priority to feature female-led acts in at least half of the bill, but when it comes to hip-hop/R&B, that effort is generally negligible. Sol Blume is (hopefully) pioneering a new trend in booking multiple women to headline festivals across all genres.

Day 1 of the festival kicked off with perfect weather and R&B stars like Ravyn Lenae, Lauren Jauregui, and Lucky Daye. West Coast rappers Buddy and D Smoke brought some balancing hip-hop energy across the two festival stages before DVSN, Majid Jordan, Alina Baraz, Jazmine Sullivan, and Jorja Smith took over for some nighttime, sing-along R&B vibes. Sol Blume producers made a note to make sure none of the set times overlapped across the two stages, so ticket holders truly got their money’s worth being able to catch every act on their wish list.

Day 2’s energy was just as high as Day 1, with West Coast stars like Rexx Life Raj, Victoria Monet, Tinashe, BLXST, and Syd packing Discovery Park and priming the thousands in attendance for two of R&B’s biggest stars of today: Summer Walker and Jhene Aiko.

Brent Faiyaz Seemingly Hints At New Album Arriving Soon: “Recording Is Done”

Brent Faiyaz’s follow-up to 2020’s F*ck The World could be arriving as soon as this month. Yesterday (May 2nd), the 26-year-old teased his 2.3 million Instagram followers with an update on the unnamed project, which he recently finished recording.

While he didn’t directly announce anything himself, the “Dead Man Walking” singer shared a screenshot of his conversation with a friend. “Recording is done, can [you] book studio this week for post-production?” he asked in his first message.

“Dope! Yeah, I can,” the other party responded. “We still finishing mix in Atlanta, correct?” they clarified, to which Faiyaz said, “Yezzir,” seemingly confirming that he’ll be on a flight to Atlanta in the near future to put in some work.

Back in March, it was revealed by Metro Boomin that the Maryland-born entertainer has been in the studio with Future cooking up a little something – seeing as Faiyaz didn’t show up on the tracklist for I NEVER LIKED YOU, it could be safe to assume that Hendrix will be the one appearing on his project.

Faiyaz’s fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of more music from him. Nearly five months ago he teased “countdown begins” in an Instagram caption, although he failed to mention what exactly he was counting down to.

Last December the singer shared “MERCEDES,” and before that, we heard him featured on “Found” by Tems. On F*ck The World, he opted not to collaborate with anyone, so we’re curious to see if any names will appear alongside his on the tracklist.

El Camino & Curren$y Get To The Bag On “Better Than Love”

El Camino is preparing for the release of a new album this month titled, Let There Be Light. Ahead of its release next week, he blessed fans with a smooth new record with Curren$y titled, “Better Than Love.” On the record, the two rappers tackle smooth, soulful production as they detail their chase to the bag.

It’s a particularly fitting collab for El Camino who explained that he grew up watching Curren$y build his empire from the ground up.

“Most people don’t know that as a kid I lived an hour outside of New Orleans in Baton Rouge. I grew up listening to Curren$y, I’ve always been a fan of his music, but I am also a fan of his business moves” EL Camino said in a statement. “He built Jet Life from the ground up, now it’s international. He gave indie artists like me a blueprint on how to make it in this game; outside of just selling music.”
