Rome Streetz Appears To Have Joined Griselda

Westside Gunn’s Griselda label has been steadily grinding out hard-hitting music, with artists like Conway The Machine, Benny The Butcher, Boldy James, and Mach Hommy each holding it down accordingly.

Now, it would appear that Gunn has officially brought another strong presence into the mix, with signs suggesting that Rome Streetz is the latest to join the GXFR family.

A recent Reddit post on r/hiphopheads highlights some of the signs, first pointing to the addition of GXFR in Rome’s Instagram bio. Speaking of which, Rome recently shared an IG picture with Westside Gunn, which appears to have been snapped at Gunn’s Buffalo Kids gallery. There’s also a clip of Westside Gunn handing Rome a bag of money, which can be seen by checking out Rome’s highlights on IG. He also shared a picture of Griselda Blanco, the woman that inspired the name of Gunn’s label.

While the news has yet to be officially confirmed, Rome Streetz would certainly make for a fitting addition to the label. He’s no stranger to collaborating with Gunn, with their most recent link-up occurring on Hitler Wears Hermes 8’s “Peri Peri.” Prior, Rome has appeared on Flygod Is An Awesome God 2, as well as Conway The Machine’s If It Bleeds It Can Be Killed.

If you’re looking to hear why he’d be a good fit for Griselda, be sure to check out the aforementioned “Peri Peri” below. Stay tuned for more news on this potential signing once it’s officially announced.

Sha’Carri Richardson Chooses Violence

The dialogue surrounding American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has shifted remarkably since she was barred from competing at the Tokyo Olympics because of a failed drug test for cannabis. Fans initially rallied behind her, supporting her as she trained for her post-Olympics races. However, as time passed, Sha’Carri continued to speak out against her competition, shading the Jamaican sprinters, specifically.

On Twitter, Sha’Carri came for Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce and compared her looks to Lil Wayne in a “liked” tweet. Then, she “liked” another post that was disrespectful against Jamaicans, saying, “Not y’all Jamaicans still talking shit when y’all gotta walk barefoot to your coconut stand everyday for a living.”

With people cooling off of Sha’Carri in recent weeks, the track & field star asserted herself and told her followers that what you see is what you’re getting. Updating her Instagram Stories on Tuesday night, Sha’Carri posted a simple message, writing “Violence” with the toggle on. That means that she’s choosing violence moving forward, fighting back against her critics with harsh words and defending herself against internet bullies.

Recently, she chose violence against the Jamaicans, but they met her shade with even more shade, posting a series of emojis on Twitter and reminding Sha’Carri that she finished dead last when she faced off against them at the Prefontaine Classic.

Fans have been responding to Sha’Carri’s post, telling her that she should have chosen violence during her last race. “Should’ve chose violence on that track sis! It’s too late neowwww,” said one commenter. “Choose speed,” taunted another. “Sis you came in 4709th place at the last race. They had time to make jerk chicken & start dutty wining to a dancehall track by the time you got to the finish line. The only violence is how you lost,” explained another person.

Check out Sha’Carri’s post below and let us know what you think of her choosing violence.

Baby Keem Says He’s Turned In His Album ‘The Melodic Blue’ And His Fan-Favorite Singles Are On It

With all the albums scheduled to release this year from the top names in hip-hop like Drake, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar, it’d be easy to overlook a newcomer like Baby Keem — if only his debut album The Melodic Blue wasn’t nearly as heavily anticipated as any of those from the names above. Partly due to a string of enthusiastically received singles including “Orange Soda,” “No Sense,” Durag Activity” with Travis Scott, and the Kendrick Lamar-featuring “Family Ties” and partly due to his inclusion on 2020’s XXL Freshman list, Keem’s The Melodic Blue shot to the upper parts of many fans’ “must-listen” lists for 2021.

Apparently, they won’t have long to wait for the completed project, either. Just yesterday, the social-media-shy Nevada rapper logged in to Twitter to let his followers know, “I just turned the melodic blue in.” Also, in keeping with his fan-pleasing demeanor, he confirmed that his two most attention-grabbing recent singles would be included. “Durag Activity & Family Ties are on the album,” he noted. That knowledge is sure to drive listens to the enigmatic rapper’s debut, as is the goodwill he’s generated with his recent performance at Lyrical Lemonad’s Summer Smash Festival — which you can read more about here via Uproxx’s recap.

Fans Theorize The Hidden Meaning Behind Kanye West’s “Donda Chant”

Together, Kanye West and Syleena Johnson created one of the most memorable Hip-Hop songs of the 2000s, and decades later they collaborated again on the opening track to Ye’s tenth studio album Donda. Contrary to their melodic and upbeat vibe on “All Falls Down,” however, “Donda Chant” is realized in a much more harrowing, spoken word format.

The intro track consists of Syleene Johnson repeating “Donda” over and over for 52 seconds straight, with no beat, melody, or real rhythm. As a result, many fans have either made fun of the track or skipped it entirely. Now, some close listeners have theorized that there is actually a deeper meaning of “Donda Chant.”

According to The Neighborhood TalkYe may have included a hidden tribute to his late mother on the Donda opening track, meaning that “Donda Chant” may not be as surface-level as fans originally thought. Fans think that there may be symbolism behind the repetition of Donda West’s first name. “Symbolism includes the 58 times ‘Donda’ is said (her age before passing) and the rhythm of the words may represent her heartbeat,” The Neighborhood Talk explains on behalf of fans.

While this fan theory is an interesting take on “Donda Chant,” Syleena Johnson actually says “Donda” 60 times, rather than 58 times. Still, there is likely a reason behind the hypnotic repetition of Kanye West’s mother’s name on the opening track on Donda. What do you think about the possibility of there being a deeper meaning behind “Donda Chant” and Syleena Johnson’s visceral performance? And when listening to Donda, do you start with “Donda Chant” or skip straight to “Jail?”

DijahSB & Mick Jenkins Link Up On “Here To Dance”

Shortly after declaring Mick Jenkins to be top-five material — a notion he previously put forth during our latest interview — DijahSB of Toronto has officially delivered their new collaboration with the Chi-town lyricist.

“This is a dream collab for me,” explains Dijah, speaking in a press release for the single. “Mick soundtracked my entire 2019/2020 year, working retail I used to listen to him to and from work. From then I’ve deemed him one of my favorite rappers.” On this one, however, Mick opts for a more melodic approach, allowing his collaborator to do the bulk of the spitting. On that note, Dijah is more than up to the task, riding the laid-back synthesizer beat with an easygoing swagger.

Look for DijahSB’s upcoming album Tasty Raps Vol 1, due out for release on September 17th. For more on where that came from, be sure to check out our new Rise & Grind interview with DijahSB, which you can check out right here.
