Drake Roasts 21 Savage After Nearly Taking A Spill During His J. Cole Tour Set

21 Savage is currently on tour with J. Cole for the latter’s new album The Off-Season, and while performing in Atlanta, the hometown hero almost took an inadvertent stage dive as he emerged from backstage before catching himself to join J. Cole at center stage. He took the awkward moment in stride (heh), posting a video on Instagram along with a good-humored caption teasing himself for nearly falling. “this the closest I’ll ever be to falling off,” he joked.

Of course, that wasn’t enough to keep some of his famous peers from also taking advantage of the moment, including Drake. The Toronto rapper commented with a sarcastic “Agile,” while fellow Atlanta trap rapper Skooly noted 21 “Caught that Mfr doe.” Chicago rapper G Herbo simply commented with a string of laughing emojis, and Atlanta rapper Trouble praised Savage’s reflexes, writing, “a Boy wasn’t goin fa nannnn.”

Other commenters noted that it looked like 21 “slipped on a banana peel” and one even compared his stumble to the new Korean Netflix show Squid Game. The amusing moment wasn’t the rapper’s first viral hit this week. Speaking with DJ Akademiks, he noted that in Atlanta, Future always seemed to be bigger than Drake, sparking a debate on Twitter about whether he was right or just blowing smoke. He later clarified the comment, explaining that growing up, he and his associates listened to more mixtapes than albums.

Lakeyah Delivers An Aggressive ‘Check’ Performance On ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Milwaukee-bred Quality Control Music member Lakeyah brings a ruthless rendition of her cutthroat song “Check” to UPROXX Sessions just days after dropping her latest full-length project, My Turn, with DJ Drama. It’s not every day a rising artist like Lakeyah can secure Drama’s assistance on a Gangsta Grillz-branded album/mixtape, which should be all the proof you need that this XXL Freshman is the real deal.

In an interview with Uproxx earlier this year, Lakeyah explained the “time” motif of her three releases: “I feel like success — slow success — builds character,” she said. “Everything is going to happen at the perfect time for me… I just feel like everything is going to fall into place. I’m just working my ass off right now being super consistent. It’s all about timing. You don’t want to burn yourself out, out here.”

Watch Lakeyah’s UPROXX Sessions performance of “Check” above.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Featuring creative direction from LA promotion collective, Ham On Everything, and taking place on our “bathroom” set designed and painted by Julian Gross, UPROXX Sessions is a showcase of some of our favorite performers, who just might soon be yours, too.

Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Biggie, And Other Rappers Now Have Their Own Funko Pop

Most collectors of Funko Pop! action figures know the brand has collectibles for just about every form of entertainment from music to TV. The brand even has some exclusive Golden Girls Funkos. Funko has been recently beefing up their collection of music-related actions figures, and after unveiling dolls of Aaliyah and Devo earlier this year, they are now immortalizing some of hip-hop’s biggest stars.

Funko just dropped their new Vinyl Gold collection this week. Fans can now show some love to their favorite emcees by purchasing a Notorious B.I.G, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, or Tupac Shakur Funko. Rather than having a large head and cartoonish features like most Funko figures, the rappers in their Vinyl Gold collection are more realistic looking.

Each premium vinyl figure stands at five inches tall and features one of their recognizable outfits, with Biggie sporting a crisp white suit, Lil Wayne showing off his tattoo’d arms and red accessories, Ice Cube in some all-black attire, and Tupac standing shirtless with his signature bandana and Timberland boots. Biggie’s Funko is the only one with a different size option as there’s a 12-inch figure available for fans who want to make a statement.

T.I. Tells Instagram To Stop Bullying Boosie, Calls Him “Official Representative Of Cultural Authenticity”

Boosie Badazz must hold some sort of record when it comes to getting banned from Instagram.

After head of Instagram Adam Mosseri explained that Boosie had been permanently banned for displaying nudity on his profile and had simply received too many strikes to keep his account active, the Baton Rouge rapper called it “f**kin’ racism” and pleaded with IG to give his official account, boasting 10.5 million followers back so he could, “feed (his) family some more.”

Mosseri and the authorities at Instagram didn’t budge and Boosie was forced to create an alternate account but, after the platform found the new account as a result of the “Wipe Me Down” rapper promoting his new movie, My Struggle, Boosie was suspended once again.

Taking to Twitter to explain that his “IG was taken for nothing again. They must have found out I have a film that I’m promoting. Please continue to buy my film despite this move to stop the success of My Struggle. Y’all all I got against these powerful people,” Boosie redirected his pleas for support to his fans and apparently T.I. was moved by that call to action.

Posting on his own Instagram page that he couldn’t understand why Instagram kept suspending Boosie, the Atlanta rapper made a couple bold claims about Boosie and his place as a representative of the culture.

“But why Dey keep f**kin wit woe?,” questioned T.I. “Can’t they see The culture has spoken & has appointed him as our Official Representative of Cultural Authenticity??? Disrespect to him is disrespect to US!! #FreeDaRep #StopBullyingBoosie”

It’s no surprise that T.I. is behind Boosie in his battle against Instagram. Earlier this year, Boosie stood firmly behind T.I. in the face of accusations he and his wife Tiny drugged and sexually assaulted a woman, and the two rappers teamed up against Lil Nas X after the Montero rapper’s album rollout bothered them to the point of disbelief.

The validity of T.I.’s claims that Boosie is a cultural representative are up in the air but based on the buzz constantly surrounding his name and his claims that he pocketed almost $1M on his movie’s release date, it is clear that his supporters always make sure to keep him in the conversation.

What do you think T.I. coming to Boosie’s defense? Let us know in the comments.

Slimelife Shawty Continues Impressive Stretch With New Single “Where’s The Love”

Atlanta native Slimelife Shawty has been one of the most consistent rising rappers for years, so it’s only a matter of time before he rightfully blows up. With the release of his new single “Where’s The Love,” it feels like he’s inching that much closer to superstardom.

The 21-year-old rapper is close with Lil Durk, Young Thug, and more of hip-hop’s biggest names. This year, he’s been experiencing one of his best campaigns to date with “Clappers,” for which the remix with 42 Dugg hit over 15 million streams. With a new project on the way, we’re highlighting Slimelife’s new single “Where’s The Love,” which came out on Wednesday.

The new song sees the young rap star rhyming over a symphony of pianos and violins, singing about themes of paranoia, loss, and more. This song will appear on Slimelife’s upcoming project Better Livin, which is out next month via Alamo.

Check out the new record below and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics:

Fuck the other side, put ’em on TVs about my dawg
Soldiery and bloody tees, Glock with beams ’bout my dawg
Cause a scene ’bout my dawg
Clear the scene ’bout my dawg
He fuck with them, can’t fuck with me, no, he is not my dawg
Where the love at?

Eminem Previews Skylar Grey, Mozzy, & Polo G “Venom 2” Collab

Yesterday, Eminem confirmed the speculation that he, Polo G, and Mozzy would be joining Skylar Grey for an upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage posse cut.

After all, Em has been (appropriately) connected to the symbiotic franchise, ever since he first delivered a theme song of sorts to the first Venom. The song was, of course, “Venom” — available as the closing track on 2018 album Kamikaze.

Now, with the sequel to the Tom Hardy led flick set to arrive on Friday, October 1st, Eminem has come through to share a sneak peek at his upcoming new collaboration “Last One Standing.” While it’s difficult to make out some of the bars under the film’s dialog and sound effects, it sounds like Em will be spitting some uplifting double-time bars over an anthemic, stadium-friendly instrumental.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Mozzy and Polo G continue the motivational throughline, and it will be interesting to see how the track coincides with the overall themes of the movie. As Eddie Brock and his new best bud will soon realize, facing off with Carnage is no easy feat — one can only imagine that the unlikely pairing will have to overcome adversity in order to defeat their dangerous new foe.

Speaking of unlikely pairings, look for Skylar Grey, Eminem, Polo G, and Mozzy’s upcoming “Last One Standing” to arrive later tonight, at midnight on the dot. After hearing the snippet below, are you excited to hear this one in full?

Missy Elliott Breaks Down Origins Of Aaliyah’s “4 Page Letter” Ad-Lib

This summer, R&B fans were finally blessed with the DSP release of Aaliyah’s catalog. Her self-titled final album is finally accessible on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify and arrived to coincide with the 20th anniversary of her death. Day-one fans have been revisiting the project while younger fans are just beginning to familiarize themselves with the impact that Aaliyah had on R&B.

Songs like “4 Page Letter” remain legendary tracks in her expansive catalog. From Timbaland’s production to Missy Elliott’s songwriting on the record, Aaliyah tapped into a different side of herself on One In A Million. Of course, the single itself has managed to enter the world of TikTok after its DSP release. A fan reimagined the session for “4 Page Letter” and exactly what was happening when Aaliyah asked the engineer to turn her sound up.

Missy hit Twitter this week where she offered fans some insight into what was going down during that session. She explained that she actually said it first in the reference track but Aaliyah enjoyed the bit so much she decided to include it in the final version.

“Funfact [laughing emojis] when I was in the booth singing this my engineer had the music to low so I was telling him to turn it up but Aaliyah thought I meant to do it so she sung it like i did on the demo but it was a mistake,” she wrote. “She loved it so we kept it like that.”

“And since Babygirl loved the mistake I told Jimmy the engineer to keep raising the music on the track everytime she say turn it up so it would make sense to the listeners so y’all wouldn’t think we was crazy,” Missy continued in a separate tweet before confirming the TikTok video was a pretty accurate depiction of the studio session.

Lil Baby’s Ex Jayda Cheaves Convicted & Fined In Jamaica: Report

Jayda Cheaves was arrested in Jamaica this week, and it’s presently being reported that she was convicted of illegal gun possession, paying a fine of over $5,000 to avoid jail.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Jayda Cheaves and Gregory Wright are expected to return to the United States today after being arrested in Jamaica. They reportedly both pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal gun possession and accepted over $800,000 in fines, which totals just over $5,000 in American currency.

The report specifies that Jayda and Greg’s guns are registered in the States, but were not cleared for travel. They were about to leave the private airport when they were arrested on Monday, holding them up for a couple of days.

This really isn’t much money to Jayda, who will probably make back the money in a few hours. But still, this had to have been pretty traumatic for her. Next time, she’ll be sure to register her weapons correctly before traveling.

Jayda was in Jamaica to celebrate her birthday, which was a few days ago. Lil Baby sent her the following message, saying, “Happy birthday Ms Jayda Cheaves!! Prada u!! Turn up!! Stay on these bitches necks!! They can’t fucc wit youuu!! I love u 4 life n wish you many more blessings.”

Hopefully, she gets home safely. We’ll keep you posted as more information comes out.
