We heard rumblings this week that Brent Faiyaz would be releasing a new collaboration with Drake, and the duo of artists officially came through on Wednesday night with the release of their new track “Wasting Time.” The Neptunes-produced cut is on all streaming services right now, marking a momentous occasion in Brent Faiyaz’s career. The 25-year-old singer has been bubbling for years as one of the strongest forces in modern R&B but this song is set to boost him into a new dimension.
As you likely already know, Drake’s stimulus package has proven to be more vital than Biden’s. The rapper can make any rapper/singer a platinum-selling performer by blessing them with his co-sign, which he has so generously done again. And the fans are seriously feeling this collaboration, going so far as to claim that “Wasting Time” could be the eventual song of the summer.
Aside from the songs that Spotify detailed earlier this week, there haven’t been any clear-cut choices for the 2021 song of the summer. Brent Faiyaz and Drake may have just delivered their entry though, with fans raving over the new track on social media this morning. Both of the artist’s names are trending on Twitter with thousands and thousands of music lovers commenting on the high-profile release.

There were rumors last night that rapper Biz Markie had died at 57. Now, though, his manager has confirmed that those rumors are false and that the rapper is currently alive.
In a statement to Pitchfork, the rapper’s manager, Jenni Izumi, said, “The news of Biz Markie’s passing is not true. Biz is still under medical care, surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best health care possible. Biz’s wife and family are touched by the outpouring of love and admiration from his friends, peers, and fans alike. At this time, we ask for your continued thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
The rapper has faced health struggles in recent years. Last year, he was hospitalized due to complications with diabetes, with which he was originally diagnosed in 2010.
Three years following his diagnosis, Markie told ABC News, “I wanted to live. Since I have to be a diabetic, if I didn’t make the changes, it was going to make the diabetes worse. I’m trying to get off [the Diabetes meds]. The way you gotta do it is lose the weight. I’m off half my meds, I just got to get off the rest.”
The rapper found his biggest mainstream success with his 1989 single “Just A Friend,” which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was his sole song to appear on the chart. His most recent album, Weekend Warrior, was released in 2003.

A rapper is facing serious accusations after a woman took to social media to share alleged stories of her interactions with him. On Tuesday (June 29) a woman who goes by the name “@teyonie” on Twitter shared a series of messages accusing the New York rapper of being physically, emotionally, mentally, and sexually abusive. She detailed alleged experiences with Kota, real name Avery Jones, calling him a “predator.”
“Can we discuss how abusive and manipulative Kota The Friend is?” she tweeted. “This dude literally strangled me, forced himself on me sexually and put me through crazy mental abuse. He portrays himself to be this wholesome n*gga but in reality he’s a whole predator.”
Teyonie claimed that she has “physical screenshots [and] emails” to prove her case. “I have an actual audio recording of him while he physically put his hands on me,” she wrote. “A police report filed on March 17. I also have audio of him threatening to hire someone to hurt me if I were to retaliate.” She also stated that she’s known him for over six years and dated him, and while they did have instances where she admitted to having consensual sex with the rapper, she accuses him of sexually assaulting her after telling him “no.”
“Stockholm syndrome is real as f*ck y’all. This is a man that has been courting me since I was 16 and he was 21. Before the music career,” she said. “Sad part is I really didn’t even want sh*t to get to this point. I hate attention and I damn sure hate the idea of causing harm to other people. But it’s a bigger issue than me. He needs to be accountable for the trauma he puts women through.”

The Los Angeles Police Department is facing heavy scrutiny after an explosion rocked a residential neighborhood in South L.A. On Wednesday (June 30), multiple reports stated that police seized approximately 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks and homemade explosives from a home. As a precaution, authorities reportedly said that they placed the fireworks in a bomb squad truck that was supposed to transport them from the scene to be destroyed with the help of Cal Fire, but instead, the truck exploded.
There were reportedly at least 16 people who were injured at the scene and several homes were devastated as windows were blown out. According to ABC7 News in Los Angeles, authorities are currently determining if many of those homes are structurally sound.
Several of the injured were first responders, but reports state six civilians were hurt and three were noted as having “serious injuries.” ABC News reports, “One man, identified as Arturo Cejas III, was arrested on suspicion of possessing fireworks and destructive devices and also on suspicion of child endangerment because two children were found at the home, police said.”
The frightening explosion was captured from multiple angles and after the footage was shared online, many in the public questioned why authorities wowuld seize the fireworks and store them in a bomb squad unit while not immediately removing the potential hazard from the neighborhood.
