Migos’ ‘Culture III’ Cover Illustrates Their Connection Pretty Literally

Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff of Migos have always shared a deeper connection than most rap groups (thanks to shared familial bonds), but on the cover of their upcoming album, Culture III, the three rappers’ connection is made more literal. Featuring a trio of overlapping portraits along with their signature doves flying through the background (maybe they’re really big John Woo fans), the cover for the third installment of their signature album series splits the difference between the first two, borrowing the collage-style art from the first and the portrait aesthetic from the second.

The album is the group’s first as a trio in over three years after they took most of 2018 off to release their respective solo records. Quavo released his Quavo Huncho first, then Takeoff followed up with The Last Rocket, and lastly, Offset dropped the more personal Father Of 4 after a delay owing to his ongoing marital issues with Cardi B.

The group initially planned to release Culture III in 2020, but of course, due to the global pandemic, were forced to shelve those plans — although, the delay turned out to be a mixed blessing as it gave the boys more time to record fresh material in sessions that allowed them to share the studio, according to Offset. The group revealed the new release date with a Michael Jordan reference; Culture III is due this Friday, June 11, and Migos will headline a three-day festival to promote the album later this year.

Migos Share The Cover Art For “Culture III”

Migos hasn’t taken the traditional route to promote their forthcoming album, Culture III. In the years since releasing 2018’s Culture II and their respective solo albums, there have only been a handful of singles that have been released. However, it’s “Straightenin’,” the only single they’ve released from the album, that they shared to kick the campaign off for their new album.

Fresh off of their performance of “Straightenin'” at the Mayweather-Paul fight, Migos hit the ‘Gram with the official cover art for Culture III. The artwork includes a graphic of Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff faces overlapping each other with their signature chains hanging off of their necks in front of a white background.

On Wednesday, Migos will be making their way to Jimmy Fallon ahead of the album’s release. Quavo took to Twitter where he hinted at a “special performance” that “U Ain’t Seen Coming.”

During a recent interview with Complex, the Migos frontman described the project as a “breakthrough,” especially since the album was supposed to be out in 2020. “This is the sonic boom to the new life and new world that we live in,” he said. “We’ve been going through this pandemic for like a year and a half. So, we’re coming back with Culture 3. We haven’t dropped any music in three years. The year that we was going to drop, the pandemic hit. So I just feel like it’s a breath of fresh air.

Kendrick Perkins Takes Issue With Quavo’s “Trash A$$ Bars”

Sports references in rap have helped bring both worlds together but perhaps, it’s also caused a rift between athletes and rappers. It’s rap, at the end of the day, and wordplay is at the center of the craft. Unfortunately, not every athlete gets mentioned in the best light. Case in point, Kendrick Perkins. Apparently, Quavo made mention of Perkins in a negative light on his debut album Quavo Hunchoand the NBA vet is still feeling a way about it.

Earlier today, Kendrick Perkins shared criticism towards Quavo’s bars following the Migos performance at the Mayweather-Paul fight. Perkins called out Quavo’s bars, specifically, tweeting, “I see @QuavoStuntin still dropping them trash a$$ bars!!! Carry on,” he wrote before a user brought up “FUCK 12” off of Quavo’s debut solo album. “

“U still mad cause he dissed u on his solo album 2 years ago,” the Twitter user wrote along with the bar in question. “Get no play, Kendrick Perkins.”

“Yeah and it was straight garbage,” Perkins replied.

While no word from Quavo yet, it was Jose Guapo that leaped to his defense with a sense of diplomacy. “hey we respect you for who you are as a man Mr. @KendrickPerkins but stop speakin on my brother @QuavoStuntin whether he like it or not I DON’T so out of respect don’t tweet nothin wit his Twitter name in it,” Guapo wrote before Perkins reminded him that it was Quavo who mentioned him first.

“as a man you do that’s why I told you it’s respect first but he ain’t mentioned you we respect what you doing for the culture we can get more money together than against each other but ion like ya outfit in your profile big perkins,” he added.

Perkins seemingly looked past the backhanded compliment about his outfit to clarify that he has no problems with Jose Guapo or Quavo, as long as they don’t mention him. “I’m with you bro but tell him to keep my name out his mouth and we all good bro,” he wrote.

Guapo has since offered to set up an Instagram Live interview with Quavo and Kendrick Perkins to publicly squash the beef “FOR THE CULTURE.”

Floyd Mayweather Vs. Logan Paul Was An All-Time Great Finesse

Over the last few years, there has been a ton of discourse surrounding boxing and whether or not celebrity matches have ruined the sanctity of the sport. This largely wasn’t a problem until 2018, when Logan and Jake Paul headlined a massive boxing event where they fought other YouTube stars. Logan fought against KSI while Jake fought KSI’s brother, Deji. At the time, fans ridiculed the idea of this event as they felt like it was an unnecessary spectacle that was purely for the purposes of making money, with no regard for the history of boxing.

Despite all of these criticisms, the event turned out to be a massive success and it allowed Jake and Logan to continue their respective boxing careers. Since that time, numerous celebrities have attempted to get into the ring, much to the chagrin of boxing purists. The most egregious example is what is about to go down next week as Lamar Odom will face off against Aaron Carter. This is a fight that should not be allowed to happen as there is a big size difference between the two. Regardless, this is an event that promises to bring in a lot of money, which at this point, is all that really matters to the promoters.

As of right now, the sport of boxing is facing a conundrum. In order to make money and sell fights, the two combatants need to have some sort of popularity. Compared to the 80s and 90s, boxing has decreased in popularity which has, in turn, made some of the best fighters less recognizable. With this in mind, some promoters have turned to novelty celebrity matches in order to make their money. The best example of this was last night, when Logan Paul got to face off against Floyd Mayweather, who is arguably the greatest boxer of all time. This fight was announced all the way back in 2020 and was supposed to go down in February, however, it was pushed back to eventually land on June 6th, 2021, as a direct result of COVID-19.

This delay was the best thing to ever happen to the fight as it gave both fighters more time to promote the event, and build drama and suspense. For months, fans got to contemplate the idea of Logan upsetting Mayweather, while Paul haters got to fantasize about what Logan would look like with his face buried in the canvas. Numerous press conferences were held prior to the fight, including the infamous one in Miami where Jake stole the hat right off of Mayweather’s head. As scripted and as contrived as it may have been, this was a key moment in helping to build up hype for the match. With the Paul brothers successfully getting under Mayweather’s skin, there was now a newfound interest in the match and some of the antics that could go down in the ring. Jake was even banned from attending the fight, although this decision was overturned, as Showtime felt like his presence would lead to some added drama.

Logan & Floyd

Cliff Hawkins/Getty Images

On social media, Logan and Floyd talked a big game, as they both made bold claims about what they would do to their opponent. Logan continuously told interviewers that he would knock Floyd out and that his size was too much to handle. Meanwhile, Floyd was adamant that he would teach Logan a lesson that he would never forget. For months, we were promised two distinct narratives: the greatest beatdown in boxing history, or the greatest upset in sports history. As many of you are probably aware by now, we got neither. Instead, we got a sloppy display of boxing that insulted the intelligence of everyone who took the time out of their evening to tune in.

From the get-go, it was obvious that Mayweather had no intention of actually trying. The first round was filled with horrific punches from Logan, who seemingly forgot all of his fundamentals at the start of the bell. Mayweather played defense, while Logan played the kind of offense you would expect from a 10-year-old who just discovered Wii Sports for the first time. As the rounds went on, Mayweather started to throw more punches but it was clear that he had no real intention of knocking Logan out. With Logan’s poor defense, Mayweather had plenty of opportunities to end the fight, but he simply refused to. Instead, we got eight boring rounds where Mayweather and Paul seemed way more interested in the checks they were about to cash in later this week.

Floyd & Logan

This brings us to the main problem of the fight. In a year where everyone’s bag had been messed up due to the pandemic, it feels as though this fight was more about doing the bare minimum for a quick buck, than it ever was about putting on a show for people. As soon as Floyd came out in an OnlyFans hat and shorts littered with Fashion Nova logos, we probably should have known that’s what was going to happen.

Perhaps the worst part of this whole ordeal is the fact that multiple people had issues with Showtime’s feed of the fight. Those who paid $50 for the Pay Per View reported various service interruptions, and there were even moments throughout the fight where the screen just went black. Having a bad fight is one thing, but taking people’s money and not giving them the proper service to even be able to see it, is another problem in and of itself. Mayweather is expected to make 50 percent of the Pay Per View earnings while Logan is set to receive 10 percent. This could result in tens of millions of dollars for both of these men, and when a large majority of PPV subscribers couldn’t even get access, it’s not a good look for the parties involved. Thankfully, Showtime is taking ownership of what happened and is already issuing refunds to those who want them. Regardless, this whole event felt like the Fyre Festival of boxing.

One could make the argument that the onus should be on the fans for being naive enough to think that this was ever going to be a good fight. Quite frankly, that’s valid, however, this certainly could have been a good fight had both men put in a little more effort. Instead, they showed up, secured the bag, and left us all hanging. Now, Floyd is thinking of fighting against Jake, and if that match is anything like what we saw last night, there could very well be a revolt in the arena.

G4 Boyz & G4 Choppa Keep The Money Flowing In On “SBA Jobs”

Scam rap, while humorous, has blown up in its own right. Artists like TeeJayx6 and Guapdad 4000 have been considered two artists who’ve brought it into mainstream consciousness but they certainly aren’t the only ones out here doing it. G4 Boyz have been bridging the gap between scammers in the United States and UK over the past few years but 2020 produced a few scam rap bangers. Songs like “Local Scammer,” for instance, caught momentum then produced two individual remixes with Chief Keef and Ivorian Doll.

Now, G4 Boyz has returned alongside G4 Choppa for their new single, “SBA Jobs.” The three rappers glide over frigid UK drill production as they reflect on money, women, and the reason why the two shouldn’t mix.

Coachella 2022 Sold Out Instantly, But You Can Join A Waitlist For Passes

After a series of rescheduled dates due to the pandemic, Coachella 2022 is officially on the books for next year. The storied festival is not only confirmed for its normal April slot, but has apparently already sold out completely. Fans might be a little hesitant still this year to attend a large scale event, but by next year it seems like that hesitation will be completely gone.

As Variety reports, the passes went on sale at 10 AM PST last Friday, June 11, and were sold out by 2:16 PM. Even for the most anticipated festival of the year, a four-hour sales window is pretty significant. Still, the upcoming event, which is now scheduled for slated for April 15-17 and 22-24, is honoring the 2020 passes that were held onto by fans who were confident the rescheduled festival would be worth the wait.

“Passes no longer available. 315 days till we meet again,” read the caption on an Instagram post the brand made over the weekend. But for those who did hold onto passes and might not be able to make it to the 2022 dates after all, Golden Voice has set up waiting lists on their site for weekend one and weekend two that fans can join in case tickets become available.

Get more info on Coachella’s website. Lineups won’t be reported until next year though, so at least that element is still very much up in the air.

EST Gee Calls Out Internet Gangsters In His ‘Bigger Than Life Or Death’ Video

Louisville, Kentucky upstart EST Gee has been primed to blow ever since featuring on Lil Baby’s “Real As It Gets” last year. Since then, his buzz has only gotten louder after appearing on “Route 66” from fellow Louisvillian Jack Harlow’s debut album and signing with Yo Gotti’s record label CMG earlier this year. As he prepares to make his festival debut next month at Rolling Loud Miami, he shares the video to his latest solo single, “Bigger Than Life Or Death.”

In the Diesel Films-directed video, EST Gee shows off his jewelry, throws dollar bills, and takes over the mic in a club. Adding a quirky twist to his performance, he wears a shark-themed ski mask for the bulk of the video, highlighting his killer instinct and kill-or-be-killed mentality.

In addition to his high-profile co-signs, EST Gee released two mixtapes in 2020: Ion Feel Nun in March, which featured rising Michigan stars Icewear Vezzo, Payroll Giovanni, and Sada Baby, and December’s I Still Don’t Feel Nun, on which he scooped up two more Detroit-based sparkplugs, 42 Dugg and Babyface Ray, as well as adding his CMG compatriots Moneybagg Yo and Yo Gotti. Kevin Gates, YFN Lucci, and Harlow also appeared on the tape, helping him to stretch his appeal from the Midwest to the South and keep his audience growing. The hustle is paying off; don’t be surprised to see him join this year’s list of XXL Freshmen.
