Pop Smoke Was Shot & Then Kicked As He Lay On The Ground: Report

More details have been shared about what Pop Smoke endured in his final moments on earth. It was just ahead of the COVID-19 quarantine when Pop Smoke was in Los Angeles staying at a Hollywood Hills Airbnb owned by a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star. It had previously been shared that a group of home invasion thieves stormed the property and shot the rapper in cold blood, but the New York Daily News reports it was far worse.

According to the outlet, Pop Smoke, real name Bashar Jackson, was in the shower when he was confronted by masked gunmen around 4:00 a.m.

It is stated that the suspects made entry to the home through “the curtains of a second-story balcony,” said a Los Angeles Police Department detective. A woman was reportedly at the scene with Pop Smoke in the bedroom when one of the men placed a gun to her head. Detective Christian Carrasco took the stand in a preliminary hearing for one of the suspects, 20-year-old Corey Walker, on Thursday (May 6).

Det. Carrasco stated that the man told the woman, “Shut the f*ck up. Do you want to die?” He added, “She heard a struggle coming from the shower area and heard Mr. Jackson screaming. Mr. Jackson ran out of the bathroom and then she heard a loud pop and [heard] Mr. Jackson fall to the ground.” It was then that “two other individuals began to kick him.”

“Mr. Jackson gets up and run downstairs. She hears two more pops,” said Carrasco. “She follows Mr. Jackson, sees him on the ground and screams for Michael (Durodola) to call 911.” Durodola is an actor from Brooklyn. The unidentified woman told authorities that she believed the killers grabbed a “large gold watch” and more jewelry before taking off.

Pop Smoke was rushed to the hospital where it’s reported that doctors performed a “left thoracotomy” but sadly, the rapper endured a “rapid” decline. It was a license plate on the killers’ vehicle that was captured by surveillance footage that steered detectives in the direction of Walker.

Not long before the shooting occurred, investigators say Pop Smoke shared images of the luxury residence, and the photos showed the home’s address and that the rapper had a large amount of cash with him. Walker’s attorney is no stranger to high-profile cases as Christopher Darden will be defending the suspect. If Darden’s name sounds familiar it’s because he was on the prosecution team during the infamous O.J. Simpson trial back in the 1990s. He also took on Eric Holder’s case, the man suspected of murdering Nipsey Hussle, but he has since stepped down.

Walker has pleaded not guilty to murder and robbery. Darden told the Daily News that he is a fan of Pop Smoke but it is “our position that Mr. Walker didn’t kill anybody.” Walker is the only adult being charged in the case as it’s reported that three other male suspects, including a 15-year-old, alleged to be involved are all minors. They, too, have been charged with murder and robbery. Walker faces the death penalty if convicted.

Quando Rondo Stands Alone On “Still Taking Risks” Project

It has been a rough six months for Quando Rondo. It was back in November that he was involved in a physical altercation that resulted in the death of King Von, and since that time, Rondo has endured some frightening moments. Just recently, it was shared that his latest concert was void of fans because it was alleged that they were concerned for their safety at one of the rapper’s shows. Then, days later, reports surfaced that Rondo had been shot at with a member of his crew sustaining an injury.

Still, Quando Rondo has pressed forward and on Friday (May 7), he returned with his Still Taking Risks project. It looks like Rondo is sending the message that he can stand alone because he offers the record with no features. Last week, when he shared the tracklist, Rondo penned a caption that spoke to his current emotional state.

Russ Disregards Anything That Isn’t Business On His Deflective Track, ‘Small Talk’

Russ has been one of the most active artists in the game for some years now. The Atlanta native released a boatload of music before his breakout album, There’s Really A Wolf, arrived in 2017. Since then, Russ has continued to keep his growing fan base satisfied with new releases which include his Shake The Snow Globe and Chomp projects, both of which arrived last year. While Russ is certainly worthy of a break, he doesn’t plan on taking one as he returns with a brand new single for fans.

His latest track, “Small Talk,” is a solo effort dedicated to the folks, like himself, who like to keep things strictly about business. On the deflective cut, Russ makes it clear that the non-productive chatter is not something he has the energy for. “Please shut the f*ck up if you don’t have the deal ready,” he raps. “I really don’t want to waste my time.”

The quick-paced track also arrives with a new announcement from Russ. “DROPPIN A SONG A WEEK AND IGNORING EVERYBODY STARTING THIS FRIDAY,” he wrote in a tweet. “FRIDAY MAY 7 THE FLOOD BEGINS.” It remains to be seen how long the weekly releases will go on for. The news also comes after he joined Blxst for a video to their “Fck Boys” collaboration.

Tee Grizzley Drops “Built For Whatever” Ft. Big Sean, King Von, Lil Durk, Quavo, G Herbo

When a troll tried to get under Tee Grizzley’s skin, the Detroit rapper kept his cool. “You fell off,” a Twitter user wrote to the rapper last month. Grizzley simply responded, “I made it out tho bro that was the goal.” Tee Grizzley has been moving carefully in the industry, forging relationships with his fellow artists and linking for collaborations that continue to help him build his empire. Coi Leray Addresses Her Critics On “Bout Me”

After Drake shared photos of Coi Leray to his Instagram Story of the rapper rocking his Chrome Hearts gear, many believed the OVO mogul was signing off on Leray’s talents. It would make for her biggest co-sign to date, if true, and quickly, her fans began shifting rumors about the two one day collaborating. We haven’t received any news of that just yet, but Coi Leray did return on Friday (May 7) to share her latest single, “Bout Me.”

The track seems to be inspired by real-life events as Leray has navigated her Rap star dreams with the drama in her personal life. Social media users bore witness to the rapper’s online spat with her father, Benzino, and their eventual reconciliation. Leray has also been hit with criticisms over her looks and body shape, but she’s made it known that she doesn’t intend to change anything about herself.

Following the success of her single “No More Parties,” fans are hoping that “Bout Me” will continue the hype surrounding Coi Leray and her rise. Stream “Bout Me” and let us know your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics

B*tch, I’m, uh, yeah, tired of talking
Uh, yeah, uh, why they keep talking ’bout me?
Uh, yeah, b*tch keep talking, uh, yeah, yeah
But they don’t know nothin’ about me
Uh, uh, I gotta go get it, yeah, I gotta keep winnin’
Yeah, gotta feed my family ’cause it ain’t about me

Young M.A Links With Fivio Foreign For Drill Single “Hello Baby”

Popping up with their second collaboration within the last year are Young M.A and Fivio Foreign. Back in June 2020, the two New York emcees traded bars on Fivio’s “Move Like a Boss” single, a track that exuded the energy of its title. It looks like their switching places this time around with Young M.A delivering “Hello Baby” as Fivio assists. It’s just as boastful as their first link and the single is said to be featured on M.A’s Off The Yak album that is slated for release on May 21.

On “Hello Baby,” fans will find Young M.A and Fivio flowing over a drill beat as the Brooklyn natives drop bars about making it out of the hood and into the arms of a few baddies that can’t get enough of their charms. The single follows last month’s “Successful,” also said to be making an appearance on Off The Yak.

Listen to Young M.A and Fivio Foreign blaze through “Hello Baby” and share your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics

And I’m the sh*t and this sh*t on my wrist a toilet water (Uh)
We in the spot, bottles and thots, took home somebody daughter (Treesh)
Call me the Big Mac, bro got the big MAC
And he on point like a zig-zag (Grr)
N*ggas be talking that fly sh*t, big cap
Damn homie, where is the drip at? (Where is the drip at?)

Coi Leray Wonders Why He Haters Are Talking All ‘Bout Me’ On Latest Single

Nowadays, it’s hard to move through social media or dig through a list of today’s most popular acts without running into Coi Leray’s name. After years of working on her craft, the 23-year-old New Jersey rapper is finally relishing her moment under the spotlight. While her rise is certainly one to take notice of, it isn’t a sign for Leray to take her foot off the gas, something the young act is aware of as she returns with her new single, “Bout Me.”

On it, she questions why she’s the focus of haters. Leray makes it clear that they won’t learn much about her by watching the rapper’s every move, so paying extra attention to her is practically pointless. The new track will hopefully extend what’s been a career-making year for Leray. It first began with the release of “No More Parties,” a track that quickly gained popularity on TikTok thanks to a snippet she shared before the track was officially released. A further boost was provided when Lil Durk remixed the song and joined Leray for the track’s music video. Looking to continue her streak, she returned to social media to tease her next track, “Big Purr (Prrd),” with Pooh Shiesty, and once again, it proved to be a successful effort for Leray after the track was released.

Isaiah Rashad Begins The Journey Towards His Long-Awaited Album On ‘Lay Wit Ya’ With Duke Deuce

The two artists on TDE who have gone the longest without dropping a new album are Isaiah Rashad and Ab-Soul, as both of their most recent projects came in 2016. While Ab-Soul has already promised his new album is on the way, Rashad has been rather quiet since he dropped his debut album, The Sun’s Tirade. There we slight pokes of the head from him with tracks like “Why Worry” and a guest feature with Kaash Paige on “Problems.” Now, Rashad is back and he’s here to stay for a while as he drops off his newest single, “Lay Wit Ya” featuring fellow Tennesse rapper Duke Deuce.

The new effort is a mellow track that presents Rashad at a near-mumble over a head-knocking bass while Duke Deuce arrives in the song’s second half with his trademark heavy-muscled energy. Its accompanying video sees Rashad prepare for a night out filled with partying, drinking, and dancing. The visual also ends by previewing a new track that samples Three Six Mafia’s “Ridin In Da Chevy,” one that will hopefully appear on Rashad’s upcoming album The House Is Burning. The project will arrive at some point in June as revealed in a profile the rapper did with The Fader, which dove deep into the highs and lows within the last five years of Rashad’s life.

You can press play on the new single in the video above.

Isaiah Rashad is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

J. Cole Is As Confident As Ever On His Soulful ‘Interlude’ Ahead Of ‘The Off-Season’

It’s been almost eight years since J. Cole released a single before an album. His last three full-length efforts, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, 4 Your Eyez Only, and KOD all arrived with little promotion beforehand, none in the form of new music. While many thought the Dreamville rapper would stick to the script that’s worked so well for him in the past, Cole decided to go against his grain and share a new song before next week’s The Off-Season album. “Told myself I would drop the album all at once,” he wrote in a tweet. “Sometimes you gotta say f*ck it tho.” With that declaration comes “Interlude,” the first taste of his forthcoming release.

The new track is carried by a soulful sample and a heavy drums that are a bit distant from the sound Cole has given us over the years. Just a few days ago, Cole announced that The Off-Season would officially arrive on May 14. The news came after months of teasing from himself and fellow Dreamville artists. Prior to this, Bas shared a now-deleted image of Cole working on the album in the studio. “The Off-Season,” he wrote in the caption. “pack your bags. [rocket emoji] in two weeks.” Cozz also shared his thoughts on the album, calling it Cole’s “best sh*t to date.”

The Off-Season will be Cole’s first full-length album since 2018’s KOD, and while fans are definitely happy to have him back, it’s not all that Cole has in store for them. He also plans to follow up the project with The Fall Off, an album he’s been teasing since 2018.
