Majid Jordan Floats Through R&B Single “Been Through That”

Following the success of their April release “Waves of Blue,” Majid Jordan returns with another single. The OVO Sound R&B duo are said to be working on an album that’s slated for release sometime this year, but for now, they’re keeping details regarding that project close to the chest. On Friday (June 18), they delivered “Been Through That,” a track that they say is “perfect to dance to in warm weather and sunshine.”

“We made it so that we could bring people back together as the world opens up after the pandemic. People have been through so much over these two years and we wanted to give them something to sing along to together,” the pair shared in a joint statement.

“Although it sounds like we’re addressing someone in the verse the truth is we have been both the speaker and listener in all the situations that the song talks about,” they continued. “We have been through that, overstretched ourselves, gotten burnt out, acted for the wrong reasons, but we eventually found our feet and now we’re dancing our way out of it.”

Quotable Lyrics

I can tell you feel a way, is that why you stay away? (Stay away)
Sell you dreams on day to day, is that why you stay away? (Stay away)
You fell for it all before, it’s got you stuck in a daze
Always sacrifice ’cause you wanna save face, but you never saved

Victoria’s Secret Rebrands & Retires Their “Angels”

The brand that became known for its sexy and modelesque “Angels” is taking a turn to adapt to modern times.

To begin to become a more inclusive company, the “Angels” promotional materials will begin to disappear while being replaced by mannequins of diverse body types and new sportswear offerings alongside the lingerie.

The most unique effort is that their model ambassadors are being replaced by a diverse collective comprising of actress and producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas, model Adut Akech, freestyle skier Eileen Gu, transgender model Valentina Sampaio, plus-size model Paloma Elesser, photographer Amanda de Cadenet, and World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe.

Victoria’s Secret’s huge change in approach received mixed reactions from fans on social media. Some were glad to see the refreshing change, one commenter stating, “This is a great, strong range of women. Looking forward to more from #TheVSCollective.”

Another wrote a lengthy essay disapproving of the change, saying, “VS is not a leader in the industry and officially became a follower. There are ways to still instill change while keeping angels and some sort of show/event alive. I will always support, but this was a wrong move. Good luck.”

Some also called the brand fake, with one saying, “I worked with the brand for several years and raved about it – unfortunately, this rings pandering and insincere to me; I also find the product assortment to be inferior to what is used to. Unfollowing.

6ix9ine Trolls Gucci Mane Over Pooh Shiesty’s Case: “Your Man Got Robbed In The Club”

Never on to miss an opportunity at trolling his fellow rappers, Tekashi 6ix9ine has once again emerged to kick a man while he’s down. The New York rapper has faced scrutiny and “cancelation” due to turning federal informant, but since he was released from prison, 6ix9ine has proven that his infamy can be a money-maker.

Still, there have been artists who have spoken out against him, and last year, it was believed that Gucci Mane sent a subliminal message to 6ix9ine. Tekashi would later bite back by calling Guwop “washed up,” and he reignited the beef on the heel of the news that Pooh Shiesty’s bond has been denied. Shiesty was arrested for allegedly shooting a King of Diamonds security guard who later recanted his statement to police, saying he was on painkillers at the time and didn’t remember speaking with authorities.

After Akademiks reported on Pooh Shiesty’s unfortunate news, 6ix9ine hopped in the comments. “@laflar107 your man got robbed in the club while performing and got mad and took out his gun for the cameras [sideways crying laughing emoji],” 6ix9ine wrote, misspelling Gucci’s Instagram handle. “Now his mom lost both her sons one dead the other in jail after getting robbed. Smh she in my prayers.”

The rapper’s remarks have been criticized by the public for being insensitive, but it seems to be 6ix9ine’s modus operandi. Check out the posts below.

Sabrina Peterson Discusses Why She Decided To Expose T.I. In Intimate Interview

The ongoing legal battle involving T.I. and Tiny has caused the Hip Hop couple to come under global scrutiny. They’ve reportedly been accused of sexual misconduct, rape, and drugging women from approximately two dozen alleged victims, many of whom have sought legal counsel. While the Las Vegas lawsuit against the couple has been dropped, the others are moving forward, and T.I. recently shared that he’s ready to defend his name, and the names of his loved ones, for as long as it takes.

The scandal was first launched by Sabrina Peterson, a former friend of the Harrises who came forward on social media to accuse T.I. of holding a gun to her head. In a new interview with Hollywood Unlocked, Peterson addresses why she decided to call out the couple publicly. “I didn’t know that several people shared these type of experiences,” Peterson said in the clip.

“I do a post and it’s a caption, it’s not his picture, it’s not anything else. It was strictly a caption. It wasn’t a video, it was an image of me with a bullhorn,” she said, adding that the message was “you can’t be the poison and the anecdote” to your own community. Peterson claimed that she thought if there was something wrong with her post, Tiny should have just called her and told her to take it down.

After briefly discussing the alleged contradictions in T.I.’s activism, Peterson called the rapper an “oxymoron.” She added, “I have everything to do with anybody on God’s green earth thinking you can control my narrative of how I can…when and how I speak, why I speak, and things of that nature. If you didn’t want someone to mention that you put a gun to their head, I think it’s easily said: Don’t put a gun to their head.”

Amazon Is Worried That Everyone Is Quitting

The New York Times published a report on Tuesday that revealed Amazon’s short turnover rate is beginning to concern company executives.

Due to increased quarantine-induced spending, Amazon began to hire employees to meet demand at their fulfillment centers in March. The company’s hiring spree hit a head in May when the company began offering $1,000 signing bonuses, which was a red flag to many job candidates.

A huge hiring effort did not turn out to pay off for the online retail giant. The report indicated a 150% turnover rate for employees, showing that many are quitting very shortly after they are hired. From July to October 2020, the report cited “350,000 workers stayed with the company for just days or weeks.

In order to curb this high turnover, Amazon announced that it will no longer screen employees for marijuana use back at the beginning of the month. Logically, this only applies to those who aren’t doing things like operating a vehicle but it does open up room for hires who would have been disqualified by prior drug test rules.

With soon-to-be-former CEO Jeff Bezos stepping down to focus on space ventures, it seems the fate of the company may be on a rocky path if their human resources issues aren’t corrected.

An HR employee that spoke to the Times said, “Amazon can solve pretty much any problem it puts its mind behind. The human resources division, though, had nowhere near the focus, rigor, and investment of Amazon’s logistical operations. It felt like I was in a different company.”

British Collective Sault Announced A New Record, ‘NINE,’ That Will Only Be Available For 99 Days

The secretive British music collective, Sault, have announced a new album — but it will only be available for a limited time. The project will be called NINE and it will only be available for listeners to hear for 99 days. The group revealed the setup on Instagram earlier today, elating fans who had been looking forward to new music after the 2020 release of two albums, Untitled (Black Is) and Untitled (Rise), earned them international acclaim.

Their first release of 2020, in particular, fared well in our Uproxx Critic’s Poll last year, and the reflection of the Black experience that the record covered, utilizing funk, R&B, house and other varied forms of electronic production was praised for its resonance during a year that dealt with America’s track record when it comes to racism and white supremacy. This 2021 release, then, is a further extension of the experimental and progressive spirit of the group, truncating the window with which listeners can engage with the work and demanding attention. In 2019 they released the albums Five and Seven, so this new project’s name is a logical progression, though the limited window is new.

On their Instagram, Sault made it clear that while the album would only be available for ninety-nine days, it would also be available for purchase on vinyl. “Nine will only exist for ninety nine days. You can download from www.sault.global. Available on vinyl and all streaming platforms,” they wrote.

Another post from a few days prior revealed the album artwork. Before that, their last grid post on the platform was the album cover of Untitled (Rise).

Currently, the Sault website reads “107 days left of Nine,” and simple math indicates that means the record will be released in eight days, a week from tomorrow, on June 25. Keep an eye out for more updates. If you’re unfamiliar with their music, check out a playlist of Untitled (Black Is) tracks above.
