DDG Has A Chip On His Shoulder In His XXL Freshman Freestyle

As “out of this world” as it may be, the latest class of XXL Freshman definitely has a lot to prove. After the cover was announced last month, the Hip-Hop community has slowly been introduced to the 11 fresh faces that were crowned the 2021 XXL Freshmen, including Coi Leray, Pooh Shiesty, Murray, Iann Dior, Lakeyah, DDG, 42 Dugg, Blxst, Rubi Rose, Toosii, and Flo Milli.

Now that the acapella Freshman Freestyles have started to roll in, many fans have started to get a better idea of each artist’s strengths and shortcomings, with many losing their mind on social media especially in regard to Coi Leray’s freestyle. Now, all eyes are on DDG as his Freshman Freestyle has finally been unveiled.

DDG comes out the gate swinging, with lines such as “Lane switchin’, they ain’t never gon’ catch me/F*ck love when I said that she left me/Then I made it and she wish that she kept me/I don’t know you, baby, can you refresh me?/Way richer than the first time you met me.”

The former YouTube sensation then enters some familiar lyrical territory, as he raps about refusing to get caught up in internet beef and reiterates his general lack of trust in women. Watch DDG’s XXL Freshman Freestyle below. After checking it out, let us know how it stacks up against his fellow classmates in the comments.

Cash Money Releases Movie Trailer For “She Ball” Starring Nick Cannon

The trailer for Cash Money Film’s upcoming movie She Ball, produced, written, and starring Nick Cannon was released on Thursday. Chris Brown and Birdman teamed up to executive produced the film. Cedric the Entertainer and D.C. Young Fly are included in the cast along with appearances from Big Boy and Jacquees.

She Ball follows the story of Avery Watts, an Inglewood native who is determined to save his local community center where his daughter, portrayed by Jaliyah Manuel, plays basketball. The 11-year-old multi-sport athlete went viral back in 2016 when her father shared a video of his then six-year-old’s impressive skills on the court.

Avery decides to team up with professional basketball player Shelby, played by Melody Rae, to get his skills on par for a street tournament. The two navigate cultural differences, local politicians, and gangs, in their journey to the tournament grand prize money.

The dramedy film is set to drop in 20 theaters, on Redbox, and on-demand on August 6.

Cannon received support from celebrity friends in the comments of the trailer, while many are also addressing the elephant in the room. One asked “There weren’t any Black Women to lead? Just a Question…” while another stated their disappointment with, “Love & Basketball got Karenated! To save a Community Center, a white female Stephen Curry gon help save the day!”

Check out the trailer below and then let us know if you will be tuning in below.

Cico P & Spinabenz Unite For “Prophecy”

East Texas’ own Cico P has returned with his new single “Prophecy,” which finds him uniting with Spinabenz, one of several Florida rappers responsible for the viral “Who I Smoke.” With his upcoming project Awfjaxx on the way, featuring guest appearances from Kevin Gates, Maxo Kream, Yella Beezy, and more, Cico and Spinabenz’s new collab sets a promising tone for what’s to come.

Arriving complete with a music video, “Prophecy” kicks off with Cico P in the driver’s seat. His delivery is on the melodic side, his laid-back flow tinged with a hint of autotune. In contrast, Spinabenz’s more explosive approach makes for an interesting — and effective — juxtaposition. There’s something undeniably unique about this one, and while it’s not entirely groundbreaking where subject matter is concerned, the combination of styles makes “Prophecy” a refreshing release from a pair of promising up-and-comers.

Look for Cico’s upcoming album Awfjaxx to release on July 14th.

Report: James Harden Was ‘Briefly Detained’ While Lil Baby Was Arrested For Marijuana Possession In Paris

James Harden was not arrested during a run-in with police officers in Paris on Thursday, according to ESPN. Harden is in Paris for fashion week, and according to videos that have emerged from the event, one person with whom he’s been traveling, Lil Baby, was among those taken in by the authorities for marijuana possession.

One video showed Harden in communication with the authorities, expressing that he did not understand something that was happening.

Additional footage showed Lil Baby inside of a police vehicle with Harden nearby.

ESPN managed to get some more details, and while Harden was “briefly detained,” he was never taken into custody. The report indicates that Harden was not with the group when 20 grams of marijuana was found in their car, but when it was evident that something was going down between Lil Baby’s group and the authorities, “Harden was apparently nearby and tried to intervene and was briefly detained, but was let go.”

TMZ went on to report that Harden “did not break any laws and was allowed to go about his day.” There is no word on who else was arrested alongside Lil Baby, but reports say that two others were taken in alongside of him.

Goon Des Garcons Swaggers Through A Cocky ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Of ‘Clanks’

Sometimes, you can tell an artist is good just from their name alone. That’s the impression I got upon seeing the title “Goon Des Garcons,” and I am proud to inform you that he lives right up to that expectation with his UPROXX Sessions performance of “Clanks.”

The cleverly named rapper is a recent Los Angeles transplant by way of small-town Arkansas, signed to Def Jam, and tapped in with underground fan favorites like Fredo Bang, Landstrip Chip, and Reese Laflare. Musically, he takes plenty of inspiration from Kanye adherents like Kid Cudi and Travis Scott, but with the rebellious sonic proclivities of wavemakers like Tyler The Creator and the artists influenced by him such as Kevin Abstract and AG Club. It’s energetic and confident, yet down-to-earth and just quirky enough to stand apart from the pack. Stay tuned, because something tells me you’ll be seeing this name a lot more often very soon.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Featuring creative direction from LA promotion collective, Ham On Everything, and taking place on our “bathroom” set designed and painted by Julian Gross, UPROXX Sessions is a showcase of some of our favorite performers, who just might soon be yours, too.

Ed Sheeran Doesn’t Think 50 Cent Knew Who He Was Even After They Collaborated

During a guest spot on the latest episode of “Hot Ones,” a very red-faced Ed Sheeran recounted a funny story about his collaboration with Eminem and 50 Cent on 2019’s “Remember The Name.” Apparently — and Sheeran says the rapper may refute this if asked — Sheeran was pretty sure that 50 Cent didn’t know who Sheeran was, even after they had worked together.

“If you were to go into my school and go, at the height of Shady Records, at the height of Aftermath [Entertainment], and go, ‘Which one of these kids is gonna do a song with Eminem and 50 Cent?’ No one would’ve guessed me,” joked Sheeran between bites of wings doused in hot sauce. “50 will probably disagree with this,” he continued, referencing the time they were both present at Wembley Stadium in the UK, “[but] I don’t think 50 had a f*cking clue who I was. I think afterwards he was like, ‘Oh, the ‘Shape Of You’ guy!’”

“Remember The Name” was part of the singer-songwriter’s fourth studio album, No.6 Collaborations Project, which also featured collaborations with Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Travis Scott, Stormzy, Bruno Mars, Young Thug, and more. At the time of release, Sheeran joked with BBC Radio One about the song’s rapped line “I was born a misfit / Grew up 10 miles from the town of Ipswich” and how it was unlikely that Eminem “would know where Ipswitch is.”

Watch Sheeran’s “Hot Ones” interview in full above, and listen to him tell the 50 Cent story at 11:55 into the video.

Dustin Poirier Gives His Take On Recent MMA-Boxing Crossovers

Dustin Poirier is gearing up for his trilogy fight against Conor McGregor on Saturday, and fans are excited to see who will come out on top. After Poirier lost the first fight, he was able to win the second very convincingly, and now, McGregor will be looking to exact revenge. If you are a UFC fan, you already know this is going to be a fantastic matchup, and hopefully, both fighters will deliver.

Leading up to the fight, Poirier sat down for an interview with Vibe, where he spoke about a whole host of subjects. At one point, Poirier was asked about all of the UFC fighters going into boxing and whether or not it’s good for the sport. Poirier believes it is, indeed, a good thing and that at some point, he would love to have a go at boxing.

“I mean, these fights that they’ve been making have been getting crazy traction,” Poirier said. “I’m sure that the clicks on the internet and the views on the videos are through the roof, so it’s good to see that mixed martial arts is being more spoken about. We’re on ESPN now, we’re crossing over and doing boxing fights, it’s just the way that combat sports is heading. With the entertainment business nowadays and how everybody’s got a device to use at their fingertips and the apps to watch the fights. It’s good, man. I love seeing it, it’s like a snowball event. Every year it’s gonna keep getting bigger and bigger and that’s not just a win for mixed martial arts, but it’s a win for combat sports in general.”

In just a few weeks, we will see Tyron Woodley and Jake Paul get into the ring, and it should be an interesting battle. As for Poirier, perhaps he can find himself a boxing opponent when the time is right. If he beats McGregor on Saturday, then he will certainly prove to be a massive draw.
