Kawhi Leonard Set To Re-Sign With The Clippers

Kawhi Leonard is one of the best players in the entire NBA and whenever he is healthy, he is a dominant force out on the court. The Clippers were in the midst of a huge playoff run this year when Leonard ended up going down with an ACL injury that is now being operated on. It is believed that Kawhi could miss the majority of next season, which does not bode well for the Clippers, moving forward.

At the start of free agency, Leonard opted not to use his $36 million player option, thus making him a free agent. Leonard knows he can get more from the Clippers if he renegotiates, and now, it looks like Leonard and the Clippers are nearing a new deal.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, Leonard will be re-signing with the Clippers although there is no word on how much the contract is worth and for how long it will last. When Kawhi came to L.A., his purpose was to come home, which means it would have been weird for him to go elsewhere. At the end of the day, the Clippers are still contenders and Kawhi wants to build something special in his hometown.

With free agency marching forward, keep it locked to HNHH as we will be sure to bring you all of the latest updates from around the NBA.

Lil Baby Was Co-Investor In YouTuber Austin McBroom’s Failed Boxing Event: Report

Lil Baby was reportedly an investor in the failed “Social Gloves” boxing event, according to a lawsuit from TikTokers Tayler Holder and Nate Wyatt against organizer Austin McBroom. McBroom, who is best known for the ACE Family YouTube vlog channel, promised hundreds of millions in earnings to investors for his event on June 12th. In reality, “Social Gloves: Battle of the Platforms” only sold 136,000 pay-per-view tickets for packages between $49.99 and $89.99.

The lawsuit reveals that Baby and Brooklyn Nets star James Harden combined to put $2 million into the lackluster pay-per-view. Investor material claimed that the event would bring in $200 million to $500 million.

Page Six reports that Harden claims he is owed roughly $2.4 million.

The pay-per-view featured fights between Six YouTubers, including McBroom, and six TikTokers. They compared expectations to the Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather fight.

After the underwhelming performance, legal representatives for Simply Greatness Productions sent a letter to creditors: “In light of the apparent underperformance of the Event, our firm has been retained to represent SGP in connection with either a workout of the claims of all of its creditors or if a workout is not feasible a likely bankruptcy filing.”

Dwight Howard Comments On Coming Back To The Lakers

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Dwight Howard would be going back to the Los Angeles Lakers, for the third time. Howard signed with the Lakers early last decade when Kobe Bryant was on the team, and while he wasn’t successful out in L.A., he decided the experience was good enough to come back in 2019. In his second stint with the Lakers, Howard had a huge career resurgence and even helped the team win a title.

Last year, Howard played for the Philadelphia 76ers and there is no denying that his experience with the Sixers was underwhelming in comparison. With this in mind, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that Howard would want to leave Philly for a chance at another title in Los Angeles.

In a recent Instagram Live session, Howard was asked about his decision to come back to Los Angeles and why he ultimately chose to take that course of action. As Howard explains, the city of Los Angeles is simply too kind to him and that he always wanted to return.

“This is my home, I just went on vacation,” Howard said. He also went on to note that he does not care about being a starter this year and that all he wants to do is win games.

The Lakers are expected to be a contender next season and with all of the veterans on the roster, you can’t say this team lacks experience.

50 Cent Reacts To Eminem’s Verse On Nas’ Album: “You Can’t Front On This”

Nas just released the sequel to his 2019 project King’s Disease today, featuring a star studded cast of appearances from Eminem, Lauryn Hill, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and more. While the song “Nobody” is getting a lot of praise from Lauryn Hill fans for her insane lyricism and wordplay, another track that fans have been talking about is the Eminem-featured track “EPMD 2,” in which Eminem decides to pay homage to a slew of fallen rappers who’ve left us too soon.

In Em’s verse, the Detroit native name drops all the rappers who we’ve lost over the last few years, including DMX and Nipsey Hussle to name a few.

“R.I.P. out to DMX, Stezo, E and Nipsey/Ecstasy and Prince Markie Dee, MF DOOM, I hit 50 via text/ Told him that I love him ‘cause I don’t even know when I’ma see him next,” Em spits.

Apparently moved by the verse, 50 Cent decided to chime in on the verse in an Instagram post Friday afternoon, telling people to they can’t front on this one and they need to just shut the fuck up and listen.

“No you can not front on this verse,” he captioned the clip. “You just gotta listen. Shut the f*ck up and listen,” 50 captioned.

Later in the verse, Em name drops a few more living legends in hip-hop, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne. “And my name’s with the Kanes, and the Waynes, and the Jays/ And the Dres, and the Yes, and the Drakes/ And the J Dillas, Jadas, Cool Js, and the Ras/ And amazin’ as Nas is, and praise to the Gods of this/ Shout to the golden age of hip-hop and the name of this song is,” he raps.

If you haven’t already, check out the song and verse (below) and let us know what you think.

Anthony Fantano Rates “The House Is Burning” A 5/10, Isaiah Rashad Responds

Last Friday, Isaiah Rashad put an end to his five-year hiatus and released his highly anticipated follow-up to 2016’s The Sun’s Tirade. Led by singles such as the Duke Deuce-assisted “Lay Wit Ya” and “Headshots (4r Da Locals),” Rashad’s third studio album arrived to immediate acclaim from critics and, more importantly, warm reception from his loyal fanbase.

From “Darkseid” and “RIP Young” to “Score” and “HB2U,” listeners have been quick to highlight their favorite tracks, and the common consensus is that Isaiah Rashad constructed an album that succeeds in setting itself apart from the rest of contemporary releases this year. HNHH even reviewed The House Is Burning, writing that Zaywop’s new album “isn’t quite a blazing inferno, but rather a slow and contemplative burn.”

However, it turns out that at least one prominent figure within the music industry is not a fan of Isaiah Rashad’s new project. Polarizing online music reviewer Anthony Fantano recently shared his review for Zaywop’s new project, and to many fans’ surprise, he gave a shocking rating of 5/10.

“Honestly, I can’t name an LP in 2021 I have been less excited to hear based on the singles,” Anthony Fantano says in the video before fully diving into his review of Isaiah Rashad’s latest album. “Pretty much every song leading up to the release of this, bored me or left me wanting more.”

For full context, check out Anthony Fantano’s six-minute review of The House Is Burning below.

Isaiah Rashad eventually caught wind of Fantano’s review, and as expected, he didn’t take too kindly to seeing his long-awaited album receive a rating of 5/10. Replying to a fan who was curious to see what Fantano had to say about The House Is Burningthe TDE rapper went on to belittle Fantano’s review as well as his journalistic skills on Twitter, saying, “it’s not experimental enough to excite him, basic enough to make him laugh, and too black for him to identify.”

“My public persona isn’t something to deconstruct so he doesn’t have much to review,” Zaywop continued. “I’m guessing it’s just for views if anything.” Another fan pointed out that Fantano’s video was just a review and that Isaiah Rashad shouldn’t be mad at him for doing his job. To that, he responded, “he’s not employed by a magazine. he literally chooses to make money by getting views off hate bombing ppl. it’s poor journalism too.”

The “RIP Young” artist has already deleted the aforementioned tweets, but a few fans were able to act quickly and get screenshots of them. Check them out below.

Following Isaiah Rashad’s response to Anthony Fantano’s review of The House Is Burning, the YouTube reviewer made a statement regarding the matter, despite his opinion that he’s “not worth all the controversy.” “You guys can lash out, psychoanalyze, or whatever out of disagreement with me,” Fantano tweeted. “comes w/ the territory.”

Upon seeing Fantano’s flippant stance on the matter, TDE President Punch then got involved in the public discourse by directly asking Fantano about his album rating process. “How do you prepare to listen to, and critique black music?” Punch asked the bold music reviewer. “What’s your routine?”

Peep the full exchange between Punch and Anthony Fantano below, complete with Punch’s hilarious refusal to go live with Fantano and talk it all out.

What is your take on the situation? Should Isaiah Rashad and Punch just ignore negative reviews like Fantano’s in the future? Or is Fantano’s approach to rating Black music a topic that should be explored further?

Doja Cat Heads To The Desert For A Sultry Live Performance Of ‘Need To Know’

Vevo already had a knack for helping artists create live performance videos of their songs that felt like mini-concerts, but that platform has only been more useful in the midst of a pandemic. Now that it’s been months since most of us have been out to see our favorite artists on tour, these live slices of artists performing their new work is as close as it comes lately. Since the release of her long-awaited album Planet Her, Doja Cat has almost had to pick and choose which singles to promote, there’s so many good options on the record’s extensive tracklist. Clearly, though, one of her personal favorites is “Need To Know,” and it was one of the last singles to be released before she finally announced the album’s release date back in June.

In this new clip, Doja wears a futuristic high-fashion black look while perched out in the middle of the desert, singing the song while casually sitting on a cliffside. Eventually, she stands up and makes her way to the middle of a clearing where she can stretch out a few dance moves during an interlude. Check out the clip above, as well as her earlier collaboration with Vevo on “Ain’t Sh*t.”

Nelly Keeps It Moving With “High Horse” Featuring Benny Blanco & Breland

Nelly may have shifted his genre of choice over the years, but albums like Country Grammar and Nellyville have forever cemented him as a hip-hop legend. Now, Nelly is gearing up for the release of his new country-inspired album Heartland, setting the stage with the Benny Blanco & Breland-assisted single “High Horse.”

Seemingly tailor-made for radio play, Nelly’s latest may not be for those seeking a return to “E.I” or “Midwest Swing.” But for those who can appreciate an artist making the music they want to make, “High Horse” is a feel-good return for the diamond-selling St. Louis native. It’s also an important one for Nelly, who opened up about some of his inspiration behind the upcoming project during an interview on Apple Music’s Land Of The Bre.

“I hope it opens people’s eyes up as far as some of those minds that might’ve been closed to having the idea of Black folk being in country as much as possible,” he explains. “But then also inviting more Black artists that are into country. Because I don’t know if they know, but we’re everywhere!”

Check out “High Horse” now, and show some love to Nelly in the comments below.

Robert Horry Decimates Dennis Schroder For Free Agency “Disaster”

Dennis Schroder has been in the news quite a bit over the past week due to some issues in free agency. After being offered an $84 million contract by the Los Angeles Lakers, Schroder decided to decline the offer and opted to test the waters of free agency. The point guard wants to be a starter in the league and he feels like he deserves big money. Unfortunately, no team wants to pay him those big amounts and as a result, the market for Schroder has dried up.

At this point, there is no telling where Schroder will go, and some fans believe he might just have to settle for a small one-year contract if he wants to continue his NBA career. It’s a sad state of affairs for a player who was thought to be the solver of the Lakers issues last season.

Now, Schroder is getting some harsh criticism from Lakers champion Robert Horry, who recently went off on Schroder for the way he has handled free agency. Needless to say

“You said, ‘Oh, I want to return to the Lakers.’ But you wanted to play games. Now you are the disaster of your own game plan,” Horry said. “You don’t know what you’re going to do. You probably lost about $60 million because you didn’t sign with the Lakers. Now you’re probably going to have to sign a one-year deal because I don’t think the Lakers are going to bring you back because they’re stacked now. They have no room for you.”

As the offseason continues, Schroder’s situation will be an interesting one to track. At this point, anything can happen, so stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates from around the NBA.
