Nick Cannon Defends DaBaby Against “Mob Rule”, Says We Should “Embrace Him”

If there is someone who knows about the consequences of making controversial comments, it’s Nick Cannon. The media mogul faced off with the public last year after making anti-Semitic remarks on his Cannon’s Class podcast, causing his future with longtime partner Viacom to be shaken. There were rumors that Wild n’ Out wouldn’t return and whispers of his talk show being axed, and after receiving an onslaught of criticism, Cannon resurfaced with an apology.

He stated that he had met with leaders within the Jewish community and had been educated about why his comments were offensive, and while visiting with The Breakfast Club recently, Cannon shared his views about DaBaby’s recent debacle.

The rapper’s controversy may not be the leading story in headlines or trending on social media at the moment, but DaBaby continues to endure punishments due to his homophobic remarks and apologies that followed. He has been removed from at least six festivals and the 100-piece collection he created with boohooMAN was canceled by the fashion brand just a month after its launch.

“First of all, I think not only in the Black community—and I’ve experienced it—but definitely just men a lot of times, we have that ego,” said Cannon. “We believe apologizing is weakness when it actually, takes great strength to step up to anyone and say, ‘I was wrong.’ I know Baby. And that’s a strong brother…. That man just lost his pops, his brother, all the things that he… and still to have that big smile that he has every day, knowing everything.”

Cannon called DaBaby a “fighter” who has had his back against the wall in the past. “To say ‘I’m sorry,’ that’s a self-proclamation. To apologize is an action,” Cannon added. “Let’s use this as an opportunity for education. Because that’s what happened in my scenario.” Cannon also criticized how the festivals decided to drop DaBaby, calling it “group-think” and “mob rule.”

“This is a moment where we should all gather around DaBaby and embrace him because if we can do that, watch how many mentalities will change in the Hip Hop community,” said Cannon. He also added that he knows DaBaby would sit down with Madonna or Elton John, two people who called out the rapper over his comments.

“Was he wrong, though? Yeah, he was. But there are certain things about it that we’ve been trained to think that. Let’s unpack that. Let’s figure this out.”

Lil Durk Explains Why He’s Taking The High Road Amid 6ix9ine’s Taunts

Everyone seems to be responding to Tekashi 6ix9ine these days except for Lil Durk. The controversial rapper has been trying his very best to get Durk’s attention for some time and revved things up following the tragic murder of Durk’s friend King Von last November. With each move and accomplishment, 6ix9ine is on Durk’s heels with vicious comments, scathing remarks, and overall disrespect.

Monday (August 9) marked what would have been Von’s 27th birthday and it came as no surprise that several of the late rapper’s fans paid their respects by visiting a mural of him on O Block in Chicago. Lil Durk even showed up to take pictures and 6ix9ine didn’t pass up the opportunity to stir the pot.

“Lil Tim put that man on on a Damn Wall,” 6ix9ine wrote about Timothy Leeks, the person police claim is responsible for Von’s death. “Smh… he’s been on several T-shirts .. hats… he’s just a Diamond chain now… he reall said ‘if I was to die my ni***** gon slide every day…..'”

Durk has continued to ignored 6ix9ine and may have explained why he’s opted to take the high road. “Bettering myself as a person and a father,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. “Putting my pride to the side and standing on all 10 to become a real boss [green checkmark emoji].”

Fans applauded Durk for taking the steps to put drama and chaos behind him, but we’re sure 6ix9ine is lurking in the shadows. Check out the posts below.

Tory Lanez Disses Cassidy In Latest Freestyle & Hip Hop Fans Want More

Hip Hop fans have been awaiting glory Lanez’s response to Cassidy’s jibes, and the Toronto artist has responded with verbal guns blazing. A new beef was ignited following Lanez’s Funk Flex freestyle after the rapper spit bars that were eerily similar to Cassidy’s rhymes. The veteran called him out, but Lanez would respond by complaining about old heads not appreciating younger artists paying homage. Cassidy made it clear that he doesn’t need anyone to pay tribute by borrowing his bars.

Cassidy would later put his feelings on wax on his track “Perjury,” and fans waited for Lanez’s immediate response. Even Royce Da 5’9″ wanted Lanez to answer the call, and on Monday (August 9), Lanez surfaced with “‘When Its Dark (E-NFT) 8-10-21’ Freestyle.”

On the track, Lanez takes unrelenting shots at Cassidy. “Old n*ggas talkin’, I ain’t hearin’ em, I put fear in ’em / I leave Cas’s body in that casket his career is in / My prime to your prime, dawg, it’s no comparison / What you gon’ compare? Some SMACK DVD appearances? / Ding ding ding 15 seconds of fame is up / Was in them hotels with R. Kelly, we should flame you up,” Lanez rapped. That last line was, of course, a reference to Cassidy’s early 2000s classic “Hotel” featuring the disgraced singer. The delivery came courtesy of ASAP Rocky’s “Ghetto Symphony” and received mixed reviews on social media from Hip Hop fans.

Some thought Lanez took too long to reply to Cassidy while others didn’t understand why he wanted to keep the back-and-forth alive. Fans of the controversial star applauded his effort and were happy to see that he didn’t fold under Cassidy’s pressure. We’re sure this isn’t the last we’ve heard from these two, so listen to Lanez’s latest and read through a few reactions below.

Da Brat Is “Grateful” Jermaine Dupri Didn’t Force Her To Change Look Early On

The tomboy look was the style back in the 1990s and early 2000s for many women entering the R&B and Hip Hop arenas. We saw artists like Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, and Left Eye interpolate streetwear with sex appeal, and while oozing sensuality wasn’t at the top of Da Brat’s list at the time, she is still grateful that she was given the opportunity to express herself as she saw fit.

In a recent interview, Da Brat took a walk down memory lane, revealing that So So Def founder and her longtime friend Jermaine Dupri didn’t force her to strip down like many of her peers or change her look to boost sales.

“I had my pants backward, cut a hole in my baseball cap, stuck my ponytail through it — I wanted to be the third member of Kris Kross,” Da Brat explained to HipHopDX. “So I’m grateful that I had a producer like Jermaine Dupri who did not try to change me and say, ‘Hey, in order for you to be famous or sell records or become somebody, you need to show your [t*ts and ass].’ So I am blessed that he let me be myself, I blended right in with them.”

“I was a tomboy back then,” Brat continued before speaking about her sexuality. Last year, the rapper came out as gay and has been planning her wedding to fiancée Jesseca Dupart. “I didn’t know I was into girls back then, I just thought I was a tomboy. I was never attracted to women until around maybe eighteen. So, yeah. And I’m grateful that I have someone now who shows me how to be a better person.”

Brat and Dupart put their romance center stage on their WeTV reality series, Brat Loves Judy. You can check out the trailer for the show below.

Casanova Associate Shantay Outlaw Strikes Plea Deal With Feds: Report

Eighteen people were named in the indictment that included rapper Casanova and an update is being offered about one of them. After being denied bail, Casanova has remained behind bars since December, and as he denies the accusations being built against him in a RICO case, his alleged associate, Shanay Outlaw, has reportedly agreed to a plea deal.

The Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation has been targeted by federal authorities as they have been accused of gang activity, drug dealing, weapons charges, violence, and even murder. AllHipHop reports that Outlaw, nicknamed “Easy,” was in charge of not only supervising UGSN’s financial dealings but was a participant in alleged offenses.

The outlet also stated that Outlaw’s involvement was uncovered through wiretaps as authorities learned just how close she was to the reported gang. She is accused of participating in the development of a fraudulent non-profit organization called Determined Adults Exceedingly Motivating Peers Into Responsible Entrepreneurs, or D.A. E.M.P.I.R.E. Investigators reportedly claimed that the organization wasn’t about uplifting the community, but was allegedly set in place to filter grants to UGSN members.

Two others listed in the RICO indictment have already agreed to plea deals, making Outlaw the latest in what many expect to be a handful of associates to do so. It is unclear how much time Outlaw is facing under this deal, as are the details of her agreement with authorities.

Andy Cohen Clarifies Nicki Minaj’s Potential Appearance On “RHOP” Reunion

Bravo already knew that their Real Housewives franchise was a megahit, but when Rihanna and Nicki Minaj boasted about the series on social media, it took things to another level. Andy Cohen has acted as the executive producer of Real Housewives since its inception and dozens of personalities have made themselves household names thanks to the hit shows. Recently, Nicki joked that she would be hosting the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion, and as exciting as that sounded for the Barbz, Cohen made it clear that if such an appearance were to happen, it would be an addition, not a takeover.

Bravo fans know that Cohen is an integral part of the reunions as he’s hosted them all for years, and once the Minaj rumors began to circulate, he clarified her potential involvement during a conversation with Entertainment Tonight.

“I would love to figure out a way to work her into the reunion and I would love to be able to bring her out and see what she has to say and wants to ask the women,” he says. “It could be a fun little new segment. The answer is I’m totally receptive to figuring out how to work her into what we’re doing.”

Following Nicki’s social media post about showing face at the RHOP reunion, the show’s stars stormed social media with messages of approval. A screenshot of a text message thread that Minaj shared to her Instagram Story shows that her publicist stated, “Andy Cohen said he would gladly give up his seat to have you host the Potomac reunion.” We’ll have to wait and see.

Zonnique Suggests “T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle” May Have Been Canceled

It was back in January when Sabrina Peterson first launched the scandal that would unravel into criminal investigations. After publicly accusing T.I. of holding a gun to her head, the former friend of the rapper and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris would allege that the couple was responsible for drugging and sexually assaulting women. We’ve watched throughout the year as alleged victims have come forward and now, there are reportedly two dozen women who have accused the famous pair of various crimes related to drugs, sexual impropriety, and rape.

T.I. and Tiny have adamantly denied these accusations and the rapper has repeatedly shared videos on social media stating he is innocent of the claims made against him and his wife. In February, reports circulated that the future of their popular reality series T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle was unsure after production was halted, and recently, Zonnique spilled the beans that the show may have been canceled altogether.

I thought I was gonna have something to look back on like I been having all my life.”

“But, y’all took that away from me,” she added without referring to who she was speaking about. “Now I don’t know how I was actin’ when I was pregnant. I don’t know what I was lookin’ like. Whatever. Vinny, send me that footage for real.” Still, fans are hoping for the show’s return. Watch the brief clip of Zonnique below.
