Ray J Started Trending On Social Media After Some Fans Realized He’s Brandy’s Brother

It’s a beautiful thing when the internet is used for good. Like helping the world learn something new, for example, rather than for negative things like cyberbullying and stan culture. An example of the former came on Thursday when a fan learned that singers Ray J and Brandy are siblings. It’s a fact that many people already knew, but better late than never to learn about it. That fan’s tweet likely came after Ray J got a tattoo of his sister’s artist logo, but their comments quickly went viral as some also learned something new as a result of it.

Others used it as an opportunity to reflect on Ray J’s biggest media moments and to remind people about the things the singer accomplished in his career.

One person recalled Ray J’s infamous interview with Complex where he claimed his Bunny Eyez glasses were indestructible, something that Complex’s Speedy Gonzalez proved incorrect just moments later during the sit-down. Another fan brought back a 2015 interview with Vince Staples on HOT 97 where the rapper asked for respect to be placed on the singer’s name due to the many things he’s accomplished in his career.

On the flip side, a number of fans had fed up reactions to people just learning that Ray J and Brandy are siblings. “I think I’m to old for Twitter because users are just now finding out that Brandy and Ray J are siblings & I’ve never been more confused on how someone can not know that,” one person wrote. Another person echoed a similar message, writing, “The fact Ray J is trending bcz people didn’t know him and Brandy are siblings is mind blowing.”

Ted Cruz Stands In Solidarity With LeBron James & Other NBA Stars

Ted Cruz is one of the more unpopular senators out there right now although he certainly knows how to get himself air time in the political sphere. In the past, Cruz has had a more combative relationship with athletes, particularly LeBron James, whom he criticized for his role in the whole China debacle that took place all the way back in 2019.

Now, however, Cruz finds himself in agreement with James and other NBA stars in light of the recent discourse surrounding vaccines. Players like Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, and Jonathan Isaac have come out against the vaccine, while LeBron has said that he himself has the shot, although he won’t be convincing anyone to get it, anytime soon.

As a result, Cruz has been praising these players on Twitter, and it has the NBA world conflicted. In the tweets below, Cruz says “I’ve never said this before: I agree with @KingJames […] @KingJames is being courageous here. With his box-office power, he could be even more courageous—he could SOLVE the problem—by saying: ‘I stand w/ my fellow players. And I won’t play in any arena that bans another NBA player because they make a personal healthcare choice.'”

The fan reactions to Cruz’s comments were certainly split as some felt like the Senator was just making the situation worse for political points. Others loved it as they feel as though this is an issue they can unite with NBA players on.

Needless to say, the vaccine remains extremely political despite it not needing to be.

Bow Wow Explains Why Diddy & Joie Chavis Romance Isn’t Serious

He has already established that he isn’t concerned with whatever romance may be brewing between Diddy and Joie Chavis, but TMZ had a few more questions for Bow Wow about his ex. We reported on Diddy and Joie being photographed by the paparazzi kissing and cuddling on a yacht in Italy. Later, the Bad Boy icon made an appearance at Joie’s birthday party, and in an interview with WGCI days ago, Bow explained why he isn’t worried about their relationship.

“[Joie and I] haven’t really been in that place for probably thirteen years. Really, that’s a homegirl, my daughter’s mom, so it’s always gon’ be respect,” he told the radio station. “But don’t think that I put a call in to talk to her about what the hell was going on. And even me and dude, we spoke about it too. That’s a conversation that I won’t share but it was a good hour-and-fifteen-minute conversation on FaceTime.”

More recently, TMZ caught up with Bow as he was waiting outside of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The cameraperson asked him about Diddy and Joie’s canoodling and how he feels about his daughter, Shai, meeting her mother’s new man.

“I don’t think they’ll get that far,” said Bow with a slight chuckle. “It won’t get that far. Nah. Only because, when you know somebody since you was 13-years-old, and when you know somebody bro, you kinda know, I kinda mean like, as far as like, you’ve been around them, we’ve kicked it, we’ve partied with girls and we’ve had pool parties. So, we know how we move when it come to the ladies.”

“It ain’t gon’ be no wedding bells and chapel or no sh*t like that, nah,” he added. “Even like, my daughter, that’s my least concern. My baby moms, we cool. Me and dude, we cool. Everybody’s grown and everybody can do what they want to do.”

Lizzo’s Ted Talk On The History Of Twerking Is Everything You Hoped It Would Be And More

Lizzo has been one of the most vocal proponents of body positivity in pop music in recent memory. As a Black woman of size, she’s been very open about the cultural pressures she’s faced, not only growing up, but even after making it as a global star. So, she took it upon herself to help share the history of twerking with the world, since this ass-shaking dance also represents a major component in her own acceptance of herself. In the talk, she lets fans know that her butt was her least favorite part of her own body, and that embracing twerking was what helped her see it as a positive.

But she also wants to be clear about the rich twerking of history, which was derived from Black people and culture, with a direct parallel to West African dances like mapouka. As Lizzo explains, the dance was carried over to America through the transatlantic slave trade, and she traces it from Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith to Josephine Baker and more. “Black people will not be erased from the history, the creation, and the innovation of twerking,” she asserts. And it’s definitely stars like Lizzo that will make sure this history remains intact. Check out the full talk above.

50 Cent Would Cast Nicki Minaj As His Love Interest In A Romantic Comedy

His BMF series on Starz is becoming just as, if not more, talked about as Power, further solidifying 50 Cent as a producing force in the television arena. The Rap mogul has moved from the booth to the boardroom and he has been sharing new shows for years. They’ve taken over airwaves to become some of the most popular series on the small screen, and Fif is apparently setting his sights on new ideas with Nicki Minaj.

Recently, 50 Cent visited Renaissance Man with Jalen Rose and answered a few spitfire questions. He was asked about a rapper that doesn’t have an acting career who he believes should. After taking moment to think about the perfect response, 50 Cent answered, “DaBaby.”

Then, Rose asked him if he would ever star in a romantic comedy, and if so, who would he want to do a love scene with. “Nicki Minaj would be fun to be in a romantic comedy with,” said Fif. “I kinda understand her a little bit more than the other people. I mean, she does sh*t—she’s tougher and being like this…but she’s being an asshole because she’s telling you you’re not going to take advantage of her.”

Minaj hasn’t responded to 50 Cent’s suggestion, but it would be interesting, to say the least, to see these two cast as lovers in a rom-com. Check out Fif talking about Minaj and more below.

Brandy & Ray J Trend After Fans Realize They’re Siblings

They’ve appeared on songs together, starred on the same television show, regularly post about one another, and speak on the other’s life in interviews, but there are still people who don’t know that Brandy and Ray J are siblings. They’re two of the most famous sister and brother duo in pop culture and have not made it a secret that they’re related, but Ray J’s recent tattoo has informed the few who weren’t aware.

We previously reported on Brandy posting a screenshot of a FaceTime conversation with her brother. Ray showed his sister his new tattoo—one done in the signature font that the Moesha icon has used for years.

“This is real love[heart emoji] I couldn’t have asked for a better brother. I love you,” wrote Brandy, ending her message with a few hashtags about Ray J being her best friend. Back in 1994, Brandy released her self-titled debut studio album and included her single “Best Friend” in it. The track is all about Ray J and how he is the most reliable person in her life.

The tattoo post caused utter confusion for the younger generation and they took to social media with surprise reactions about the siblings. Others, however, couldn’t believe that people were shocked to see that Ray and Brandy were related and they let their voices be heard. Check it out below.

Burna Boy And Polo G ‘Want It All’ In Their Cinematic Collaboration

Afropop sensation Burna Boy is on a tear. Not only does he have an upcoming headlining set at the Hollywood Bowl — as the first African artist to ever do so — but he’s steadily been dropping a stream of new music that continues to buoy him past the success of his Grammy-winning album, Twice As Tall. Today’s latest actually features one of his most high-profile collaborations to date, with none other than Polo G joining him on the yearning “Want It All.”

In the video for the collaboration, the two artists take turns flexing about their recent accomplishments, recollecting how hard things used to be, and facing up to the pressure that their current success has created. Of course, Polo G is a rising Chicago rapper who is riding high off the success of his No. 1 album, Hall Of Fame, and just announced his own headlining tour in support of it.

Speaking on the collab, Burna said he’s had his eye on Polo for a minute, and was looking forward to working together. “I’ve been watching him for some time, and I just knew this had to get done, but it had to get done in the perfect way where the whole world gets to feel the reality of both of us,” he said. Check out the video above as both artists bask in the glow.

Wale And J. Cole Reunite On The J Dilla-Sampling ‘Poke It Out’

Wale and J. Cole are a match made in hip-hop heaven, proving as much once again on their J Dilla-sampling new single, “Poke It Out.” The two former XXL Freshmen continue their long history of bringing out the best in each other on their smooth new jam, which interpolates the Jay Dee-produced beat from 1999 debut solo single “Vivrant Thing.”

The original was a huge hit in its own right, giving Q-Tip his highest-charting single to date; Wale and Cole’s version, produced by Cool & Dre, updates the lyrics but keeps a similar theme, letting the two rappers praise the beauty of a female companion with their usual slick, wordplay-laden rhymes. The two also shout out female rappers Coi Leray and Megan Thee Stallion as a way of touting their broad and inclusive tastes.

The single is the latest from Wale’s upcoming album Folarin II, which he also announced is set for release on October 22 through Warner Records. So far, he’s released a pair of other singles: “Angles” and the Mike Jones-sampling “Down South” featuring Texans Maxo Kream and Yella Beezy. From the singles released so far, it appears Wale’s latest album will pay homage to classic hip-hop as he parallels his legacy with those of his musical heroes in his ongoing efforts to prove himself one of the greatest rappers of all time.

Listen to “Poke It Out” above and pre-order Folarin II, out 10/22 on Warner Records, here.

Wale is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
